Dubbed "Robot Vietnam," few Helldivers 2 battles have endured in the collective consciousness of players as first the tragic loss and then the triumphant retaking of Malevolon Creek. This victory was eventually memorialised in cape form, and almost immediately, those wearing the capes would be targeted by cowardly players upset at the battle's symbolic importance. We forgot how wild the early days of the Helldivers sequel truly were.
As we approach the first anniversary of those legendary encounters, veterans of Malevelon Creek are beginning to fear it might need to be liberated all over again. As chronicled by IGN, with fewer Helldivers still playing, another Major Order has failed, allowing the feared, flame-spewing Automaton Incineration Corps to make significant gains.
Developer Arrowhead, in one of its wonderful in-universe updates, wrote: "The enemy remains at large. Reports indicate the enemy's strategic goal is to seize old industrial assets in the Severin Sector, where the Automatons first emerged."
The Severin Sector is home to several planets, including Malevelon Creek. Responding to a post about this prospective return to the famous, feared battlefield, morale appears high, although there is some understandable apprehension, too.
"I fought hard for that planet once, and I'm prepared to do so a second time", wrote one Super-patriot. "A part of me is in fear as I was there, but another part of me WANTS to go back," wrote another. Indicative of the psychological scars Malevelon Creek left on all of us who were there, another responded:
"... a part of me never left."
Are you a veteran of the First and Second Battles of Malevelon Creek? Does the prospect of a return to that grim place fill you with patriotic fervour and a desire to boot up Helldivers 2? Let us know in the comments section below.

I think it is a good thing that Super Earth is losing some objectives. I remember a major criticism in the immediate aftermath of launch was how often the Major Objectives would be smashed through.
A good balancing act of giving victories and defeat to let the story telling shine.
If the Creek calls for aid, I shall answer. The Socialist Bots shall bitterly rue the day they decide to set another steely claw on that planet.
The issue I have is the ragdoll against bots is still way over the top it really is they've never really fixed it. But now it's going to be more tougher they have the walker, tank, jetpack brigade and Fire Corps
@breakneck I wonder how much of the story has been written with clear expectations of wins/losses. I have a suspicion that it is all too easy for Arrowhead to crunch numbers based on active users to calculate exactly how hard/easy to make objectives to create the outcomes they want for the narrative.
@wildcat_kickz yup or sometimes just leave it somewhere in between and keep a plan in mind for both outcomes. Get victory from the jaws of defeat and vice-versa. It is fascinating system.
