Monster Hunter Wilds’ unstoppable success has earned it over eight million sales in just three days, making it the fastest-selling game in publisher Capcom’s history.
The publisher failed to provide any additional information about the game’s performance in its press release, so we’ll need to await further announcements to understand how it performed specifically on the PS5, and how it’s faring in various different countries.
We already know the game topped the physical sales charts in the UK, and presumably it’s done extraordinarily well in its native Japan, although we won’t get retail data until Famitsu publishes its findings later in the week.
But to put these numbers in to perspective, Chinese giga hit Black Myth: Wukong sold 10 million copies in a similar timeframe. God of War Ragnarok, meanwhile, sold 5.1 million units in its launch week – although it did so on just PS5 and PS4.
Capcom said it “remains committed to providing the best possible game development capabilities in order to create highly original game titles that meet the expectations of all users”.
We reckon Monster Hunter Wilds is deserving of its success, and we said so in our 9/10 review: “While the overall package is held back by a stalling story campaign and questionable performance, Wilds is an outstanding action RPG at its core, and a worthy successor to the almighty World.”
If you’re one of the eight million people already playing the game, check out our Monster Hunter Wilds guide for a little helping hand.

Wow, that really is......wild😁
Bad jokes aside, that's incredible! Go Capcom!
Can we now have some RE9 news please Capcom.
@Frmknst According to Trophy data almost 30% of players on PS5 have completed at least 50 quests, so I'd say a good number of people played longer than an hour.
@Frmknst Good question.
I guess the game being "Too easy" wasn't as big of a deal as the hardcore sweaty gamers anticipated. I do hope they touch up the performance further but even playing on original PS5 I find balanced mode to be completely playable. I hear it's the PC side that seems to be struggling with those things more (When do they not complain about performance)
@ATaco That doesn't make it any less of a valid complaint so I don't know what point you're trying to make.
Will play after the 8 million beta testers.
@Frmknst I mean, I guess you could say that it's somewhat mainstream as Monster Hunter is absolutely massive in Japan. Up there with Dragon Quest etc.
But it's popular for a reason. Monster Hunter has such a great gameplay loop and the combat is pretty excellent. Wilds has some technical issues, but it's a lot of fun nonetheless.
That's a hell of a lot of dead Chatacabra's.
thats fantastic never knew monster hunter was so popular, i tried one years ago wasnt for me but glad its doing so well
@ATaco You always hear the loud minorities online but it's a completely different story in real life.
I've never heard any friend complaining about a game being "too easy". If we wanted challenges, we know where to get them in life.
@Toot1st It's a good time to try again. I didn't get MH at all until Rise and I absolutely love Wilds. It's quite a different experience compared to the frustrating and overwhelming one years ago.
Wilds deserves this success as it is a true successor to World.
The pc performance is really bad from what I have seen on other media, but the Ps5/Pro experience is okay (except for the graphics tbh).
The game isn't much easier than previous titles. Especially once you get to High rank the difficulty becomes what many expect from monster hunter.
Most veterans are accustomed to the G-rank experience from World and Rise. And starting in Low Rank in a new game makes it look easier, because we experienced way harder content.
The true challenge always comes from G-rank and particular event quests that will be added along the way (game is just a few days old).
Fantastic news for Capcom and I’m glad to hear it’s really delivering for fans. I’ve played a couple of them, but the series just isn’t for me, sales like these show that it’s clearly a me thing though.
Congrats to Capcom / MH team 🍻
I'm not a MH fans but i'm happy the series sold well because Capcom possibly used some of the profits to funded new IP like Kunitsu Gami, revived classic IP like Onimusha and Okami, or even helped the prize money for Capcom Pro Tour / Capcom Cup.
Crazy numbers and its um wild to see how big the series has become.
It’s nice to see the MH series succeeding so well now after all these years, hoping Capcom does remasters/remakes of the older games and rework them to make them more like World-Wilds or at least a little easier for newer players
Never understood the love for these games. I've tried many Monster Hunter games through the years and they're all complete bore fests... imo.
@ATaco I am also finding the balanced mode enjoyable. Also, for people complaining about the graphics and low resolution textures.... wait until you craft the Lala Barina armor. It's basically a dress that makes you look like a rose with all the petals. The 3d model is ultra detailed, with all the petals moving realistically with a physics engine. It's gorgeous. Monster Hunter is about close range fights, it has never been an open world with vistas like Horizon. The more I play, the more I find the performance pretty good, Capcom did a good job at finding a compromise between highly detailed monsters and big landscapes. And most important, the game is super fun.
Well deserved, great game. Performance has been fine on pro. There is a lot of talk about this game online that is just plain false in my opinion. Luckily it doesn’t seem like too many people are getting caught up in it.
Really glad to see its off to a great start, because even though I haven't been able to get into the series yet, I know the success of this game is going to allow Capcom's amazing lineup of titles to be even better and more diverse. Now if only they could help transfer this momentum into people buying and playing SF6 lol
@Nepp67
My point is was there was a lot of doom posting on certain sites, thinking that the game would fail because it didn't cater to their preferences. It turns out the opposite happened and it's become more popular than ever.

@ATaco playing on performance mode myself on base ps5 and yh it is very playable but hope they do tighten up the game as it does tarnish it.
It’s an addictive series, but I burned out on the repetitive ness. I do get the appeal though.
@Cornpop76 The game is very good despite the performance issues. Some of us prefer to enjoy games over outraged huffing and puffing
And already the fanboys are fighting it sold better on pc no it sold better on playstation I mean who gives a ***** many people r enjoying this game
Well deserved. Only 9 hours in but already feeling like an early Game of the Year contender, performance issues aside.

@Cornpop76 when you go to a restaurant and you "demand" anything like a Karen, then the problem is you.
I've been to plenty of nice restaurants and when I don't enjoy the wine, I just have a sip and then leave the rest of it. I focus on the great steak instead. And if I hate the wine that much, next time I'll order something else or visit a different restaurant. No one forces me to keep going there.
