Well, this is what happens when you don't pay close attention to the end of trailers!
Admittedly, we missed this rather unsubtle tease, dropped into the latest Monster Hunter Wilds showcase. But as fans have been extremely quick to point out, it looks like a fan-favourite creature will finally return to the series this summer.
Lagiacrus is the beast's name — a leviathan monster that's basically a really big sea dragon. It can also spit electricity, which is always fun.
It first appeared in Monster Hunter 3, and reappeared in multiple titles afterwards. However, Lagiacrus was actually cut from Monster Hunter World, with Capcom citing animation issues. As you can imagine, the disappointment was palpable amongst veteran players.
Anyway, fans are certain that the beast's huge claws can be seen in the trailer for Title Update 1. Again, Lagiacrus isn't going to be part of the April update — which has now been fully detailed — but it's seemingly arriving this summer.
Here are the hulking claws in question, taken from said trailer:

It seems like with Wilds the MH team are putting a focus on bringing back old Flagship monsters. First Gore Magala makes a return in the endgame who was the flagship of 4, the first update will bring Mitzukune back who was one of the four flagships for Generations, and now Lagiacrus from Tri is shown off.
@PloverNutter I eagerly await the Nergigante revival.
@ShogunRok I love Nerg but let's face it, I'm from Toronto. I need Bagelgoose and the droppings I'm accustomed to.
"seemingly"?
You can see basically everything of it from the neck down lol
Lagi being back in a main entry is huge.
@ShogunRok Hope so he's one of my fav Monsters.
@PloverNutter Rise/Sunbreak was missing only four of the flagships - Azure Rathalos (MHG), Lagiacrus (MH3), Bracchydios (3U) and Nergigante (MH5/World)
They just like having flagships return in general, and for good reason. Most of them are among the cream of the crop (Kushala sucks in every other iteration, Azure Rathalos is just a subspecies..)
@ShogunRok It won't come in the base game, maybe the expansion, we already know which monsters will be part of the free updates.
Which to say, it is a shame, I love Nergigante, it quickly become one of my favourites (if not my favourite) monsters.
@Athrum
Wait we already know all of the monsters dropping in free updates? Where is this information?
@ShogunRok I want my sword tail Glavenus back and with his music in World.
@ATaco People datamined the monsters. For example Lagi and another monster were supposed to be part of the main game were pushed to the free updates. If you google for MonHun Wilds leaked monster list or something you'll find all the info. I won't post it here because there are people that like to be surprised with the updates.
Tri was my first Monster Hunter, I'm looking forward to tackling it again.
@Athrum Appreciated, I like getting all hype over the trailers when they drop and maintaining ignorance until then.
@ShogunRok When I saw Lagi was back I literally screamed at my son to come watch (we've hunted together since he was 4). Now 10, he was a typical, "so?". My response was "Ive wanted Lagi back since before you were born!"
MH Tri was my first game, so lightning lizard being back pushed all the right buttons for me. I just want Brachidios and Narkarkos back now and I'd be happy to call this peak Mon Hun.
For me currently, peak is a toss up between 4U and Rise/Sunbreak
