New Batman Game Appears to Be Targeting PS6 1

With development cycles so long these days, and the PS5 generation already way beyond its half-way point, it’s perhaps not a surprise to see developers beginning to think about next-generation consoles like the PS6.

It’s certainly something that’s on the mind of UK studio Rocksteady, as a new job listing for a Senior Core Engine Programmer explicitly mentions that candidates will “enable the team to deliver the highest quality game experience on our target hardware, including high-end PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and the next-generation of consoles”.

The project, which is expected to be a new single player Batman campaign, will use Unreal Engine 5, as there are various references to Epic’s technology throughout the job listing.

As was the case with the current generation, we’d expect a long cross-gen period once the PS6 releases, so it’s not really surprising to learn that this project will target both the PS5 and next-gen systems.

It’s going to be interesting to see how consumers feel about that, though. Some complain they still don’t think the PS5 has delivered enough value, as many of its biggest games can either be played on the PS4 or PC.

Either way, it’s fascinating to see job listings slowly starting to openly reference next-gen hardware. With the PS6 potentially due out in 2028, and games taking at least three to four years to make, we’re sure this is just the tip of the iceberg.
