Sony has announced a new PS5 firmware update is rolling out today in a phased launch, meaning you'll receive access to the console patch at a different time depending on where in the world you are. This updates brings the system up to version number 25.02-11.00.00, and actually does more than just add more stability.
PS5 version 25.02-11.00.00 Patch Notes
- We’ve made it simpler to view details about activities.
- Activity details are now fully displayed on cards.
- Potential spoilers will still be hidden.
- Unicode 16.0 emojis are now supported. You can use them in your messages.
- When you set the parental controls' restriction level to Late Teens or Older, Communication and User-Generated Content will now default to Restrict. If you have previously set the level to Late Teens or Older, your previous settings will not be affected and it will be shown as Customize.
- We've improved system software performance and stability.
- We've improved the messages and usability on some screens.
A refresh to the system menu's Activity Cards means they'll now fully display without any spoilers, while the messaging app has updated emoji use. The parental controls have also been updated to tweak the access of communication and user-generated content at the Late Teens or Older level. Finally, there's still the trusty upgrade to system performance and stability. You can't have a PS5 firmware update without it, right?
Are you looking forward to testing any of these new PS5 features and updates? Let us know in the comments below.

OK this is getting beyond ridiculous with updates that add nothing. I was in my hometown for a couple of days and whatever I tried to play had some sort of update. The console had an update, all Final Fantasy games had updates, Resident Evil 4 had update, the whole console had updates. After all those years STILL PS5 DOES NOT UPDATE GAMES AUTOMATICALLY for some reason. And to check every update by hand is a pain with the clunky OS. The same happened when I opened the PS4. It also updates nothing automatically.
PS4 does automatically update - at least last time I tried it. I had Diablo 4 and ESO downloading patches as soon as I booted the old stager.
In fact, the PS4 is still far ahead of the PS5 as it can download multiple updates at the same time unlike the 'queued' wonder.
@sanderson72 PS4 doesn't update anything for me for some reason. Still, it is true that PS4 updates the games faster.
I've been following rumors about a potential stability and performance update but was very sceptic about it until now when it was officially confirmed
The messaging side still seems woefully behind the curve. I would have thought they would have worked to integrate more discord features, or at least just allow me to address a specific person in a group chat?
How about they bring back the "continue where you left" activity? Where did that go?
They will add folders - one day.....
@belmont "After all those years STILL PS5 DOES NOT UPDATE GAMES AUTOMATICALLY for some reason"
Not true my friend, it updates all games on start page automatically, but if you have like me, almost 6 TB of games installed it will not update the games in my library unless I start that perticular game in question.
During the last week my PS5 have autoupdated AC Shadows, PoE 1 & 2, Diablo 4, GoW Ragnarök when I turned on my PS5.
Maybe it doesn't work if you put it in sleepmode, that might be a bug. But it should work even then.
TLDR: It works.
Edit: Have you checked under system Settings: Automatic Updates under Saved Data and Settings for games/apps??
You might have turned it off by accident?

It's about being ecologically responsible. Millions of users downloading terabytes of data they will never play adds up very fast it's a huge amount of wasted energy and internet bandwidth that isn't necessary.
Both PS5 and Xbox update your most recently played games, but some people have hundreds of games and they will never play every update that comes out they don't need v1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 1.4, 1.5, etc. they just need v1.9 when they eventually play it. Not downloading every update is the responsible thing to do. Though I would like to see a toggle to "keep this game updated", but pinning a game you might play soon to the homepage seems to do this and is enough for me.
Doing this personally I never have a problem with updates, they are almost always ready to go.
@Voltan it became the game banner 😦 seriously tho they need to give us back our game logos that was a cosmetic change worse than Pete burns
@Zeke68 Pretty sure it simply only auto-updates the games that you launched in the last X days - not sure the value of X though
@Zeke68 Yeah, it only updates the games in the home screen. Save upload doesn't work either. It always says I am out of space in the cloud, although that is not the case. I have automatic updates enabled. Apparently there is a hidden limit in the actual number of PS4 savefiles you can upload!!!!!
@themightyant I get that, even though it is very bad for game presentation and AI and cloud backups of not useful data consume much more enery of a few MB of download. It is frustrating to always have to manually update all the Final Fantasy games. In Xbox you can check for all updates with the press of a button, you don't have to check one by one. In Steam it slowly updates all games in the background automatically.
Can believe you didn't lead the article by noting the improvements to software performance and stability! Was panicking that there was going to be no improvements
@belmont Yes I think the total savefiles your allowed is 1000. I had to remove a ton of Driveclub saves back in the day because they bloated up the cloud. Now I only have one plus the gameprofile with all the stats saved.
Check if you have some old saves you don't like and delete them for good, better to have new gamesaves then old that you will never use. (probably).
@Voltan Could be true, but funny enough my console updated Pinball FX3 for me a few weeks ago and I haven't played that since last summer.
@Zeke68 Yeah, but the limit is not clearly stated anywhere. It sure is a bizarre way to punish loyal customers that buy and play a lot of games. I did something better than deleting the saves: I cancelled PS plus and backed up the saves in two different USB sticks and two different consoles. I cannot do this in PS5 but the only games I have are the FF16 and 7 Rebirth and I can live without having those back ups. I also backed up the saves of PS3 and Vita with similar methods.
I have had this release in the latest beta and I have noticed nothing new
My ps5 pads used to charge from my phone charger but no longer does, it's such a simple qol upgrade that it's a bit depressing that they haven't fixed it.
@belmont How many games are you playing at once? I find that all 9+ games on the dashboard are ALWAYS updated and if I know i'm about to play a game next i'll boot it up before and/or pin it to the dashboard. Never have to wait for updates this way.
@Liberty____1st Worth trying another charger or cable. DualSense is a bit finicky about which units charge it. To be fair this is sensible because when USB-C first released it was like the wild west with all sorts of dodgy configurations, a lot of devices have protections in place to stop a potential hazard.
@belmont Playstation consoles are hit & miss when it comes to updates. Sometimes it updates a few games automatically while not updating others. It can be a pain I know.
@themightyant I rarely play more than two games but this weekend I decided to revisit the fonal boss on all Final Fantasy games using my old saves. I tried Final Fantasy 1, it had an update, I moved to play 2 another update, in the end all had updates except 10 and 12, even the 7 Remake / Rebirth. I ended up playing nothing... If updates worked as they should I would have been ready to go regardless of what I wanted to play. And not updating the games is bad from the preservation point of view. I sometimes take my consoles in work trips and play offline
Ill sum up all PS5 update articles for everyone: They do nothing
@Zeke68 It does not automatically update every game on your home/start page. If you move any of those games to extra storage, whether internal or external, it automatically detecting an update is sketchy at best. I almost always have to do it manually. Games on the regular internal SSD? Sure, that automatically downloads 99% of the time.
