Update []: Assassin's Creed Shadows update 1.0.2 has arrived. It's available to download on PS5 right now, weighing in at just under 12GB.
As previously reported, this patch is all about quality of life improvements, with the developer making some highly requested changes across the whole experience. You can peruse the full patch notes in our original article below.
Ubisoft says that "more new and exciting things are coming soon", and given that it just fixed a boatload of potential issues based on player feedback in a single update, we're certainly looking forward to seeing what the future holds for Shadows.
Original Story: Ubisoft has announced Assassin's Creed Shadows Update 1.0.2, which features a suite of improvements that players have been asking after since the game's launch last month.
To be clear, this isn't Shadows' first major Title Update — it's just a 'smaller' (if you can really call it that) quality of life patch that's being released tomorrow, the 8th April. It'll be around 12GB in terms of download size on PS5.
Said improvements include (optional) automatic horse riding one you've set a marker on your map, and your steeds will no longer slow down when you're in towns and cities.
The incredibly clunky process of dismantling and selling equipment has been streamlined as well — thank god — and you can also reset skill trees individually instead of refunding all of your points at once.
And then there's the new PS5 Pro support. As promised, the developer is taking advantage of the console's PSSR upscaling with this update.
We'll republish this article once the update is out, but until then, you can check the full patch notes below.
Assassin's Creed Shadows Update 1.0.2 Patch Notes
Game Improvements
- Horse auto-follow and speed improvements
Auto-Follow the road is back to help you navigate while riding your horse. Simply activate the pathfinder to enable Auto-Follow, and your horse will automatically follow the road to your marked destination.
We've also increased horse speeds in cities so you can get to your destination faster.
- Mastery Nodes Reset
Is your stealth build not sneaky enough? Could Yasuke pack a heavier punch? We've added the option to reset Mastery Nodes in the skill trees so you can test different playstyles and skills for both Naoe and Yasuke.
- Selling / dismantling multiple items
We know you've been hard at work exploring every corner of Feudal Japan, and that means you've filled your pockets with resources and loot.
To help you save time when trading with merchants, we've added the option to tag and sell/dismantle multiple items in shops, or when dismantling gear at the Forge in the Hideout.
- Investigation Board Shortcut
The Investigation Board is central to your journey, and we've added a new shortcut for direct access while in-game.
With Title Update 1.0.2, holding the OPTION button for a few seconds will take you directly to the Investigation Board, while a single press will open the inventory menu.
This update now allows you to easily launch the World Map, Inventory, or Investigation Board smoothly as you play.

That's a long list and some of these are very welcome
I'm 30h in and I've been having a lot of fun so far.
Very interested in how much PSSR improves things, and what fps the hideout runs at on Pro.
Thrilled they’ve sorted the hideout. That FPS drop was so so noticeable.
Bit of a shame they’re getting rid of the ability to disarm through light attacks. I’d hoped that was intentional as I’m not really a fan of using the heavier attacks.
I hope they don't balls this up with PSSR implementation, cautiously waiting.
Excited for the PSSR support, it looks fine on Performance but hopefully PSSR greatly improves the image.
@Jrs1 They purposely waited for a new version of PSSR to be out and worked with Sony on it for Shadows hence why it wasn't there at launch so i will shocked if they have screwed it up.
The auto-horse riding and not being slower on cities will be welcome!
@DennisReynolds Good to know, cheers, don't want to see another Outlaws/Avatar mess 👍
Love the improvements to item management. I got A LOT of katanas I need to get rid of but never felt like going through the hassle. 😅
The horse improvement is also quite welcome.
Resetting an individual skill tree is very useful, especially if you stop using a weapon that you’ve previously spent skill points on.
Excited to see PSSR implementation. I've been playing on Balanced mode and have found visuals/frame rate totally great, so if it looks even better with PSSR, then I'll be a very happy boy 😃
Also the streamlined selloff is a great addition. I loot just about every chest I come across, so there's no value in dismantling gear, rather than selling it.
Pssr, thank god. The image is stable if you are not moving, but you do get some pixel crawl with camera movement, which I find distracting. Pssr is usually much better in motion, and even if you get a little more instability on a still image I'd take that in a heartbeat.
I do wish they gave you tools to adjust screen brightness properly, ATM you have to guess exposure and hope for the best 😀
Amazing, I might hold from playing today, game has been great honestly but it does ramp up my PS5 Pro in performance mode a lot, specially while looking at the map for more than a minute it sounds like a hair dryer, hope it’s fixed tomorrow.
Good too see devs stretching the PRO’s legs.. so to speak 🫣
Will be interesting to see if that fizz is gone when panning around in the mid distance in the tree foliage and bamboo.
Does look messing to me and spoils a really beautiful game.
Seems to be thing this generation with most games on PS5 and Series x.
Not that I’m any expert, but play something like far cry new dawn on PS5 Pro at 60fps and no fizz. As we are getting native 4K at 60fps with no fizzy whizzy fizzy upscaling from low resolutions. Maybe why we get fizz now a days.
@Titntin
Will know why better than me.
Will the mount automatically gallop? Giddyup! Get there.
Looks like all good updates. All I need now is an option to quick-switch between the characters without opening the inventory/mastery menus, and I'm golden.
Looking forward to those Pro upgrades.
Shame I didn't see anything about fixing pathing issues with certain skills. Extremely annoying using an ability and Naoe charging at the enemy but stopping 1m short because of a blade of grass getting in her way.
Finished it today... so perfect timing
Thank God. The 30 fps was so jarring in hideout after playing at 60. And man where was that horse auto follow when I unlocked every viewpoint
I'm one of the very few playing on PS5 Pro Quality mode and fully content with the 30fps and stunning graphics. But if I can keep those tasty added RT effects, reflections and hair and all that image quality stuff and still bump it up to a higher frame rate with VRR or whatver then that will be just right. All of those QoL updates too, very welcome.
@Ravix Oh, so thats how the frame rate looks in quality mode
@StarZinger haha in .gif form, yes 😛 and captured in 1080p because the PS is weird like that.
But still, look at those puddles 😁 in fact, don't, because they look 20 times nicer in the actual game and it's not doing it justice heh
This solves most of the downsides i experienced with the game
@Ravix Those puddles looks pretty awesome man! Its a really pretty looking game actually
@wildcat_kickz Same here! But I'm confused by this one:
"Uncapped the Hideout to above 30 FPS on Performance mode."
Does that mean it's still locked to 30 in Balanced Mode? I was hoping it would be 40 like the rest of the game.
@Ravix I'm curious to know why you've picked Quality over say, Balanced. Do you use an OLED? I tried quality on mine and the frame judder was so awful I just couldn't bear it.
I feel like the performance mode was surprisingly sharp. Excited to see PSSR boost the res further.
I dont have the update 🤔
Correct me if I'm wrong, @Ravix, but before this patch, did Quality Mode had even more RT effects turned on, as opposed to Balanced? Sounds like this update might address that and makes Balanced Mode even more viable, though obviously, if you don't have a 120hz TV, then this improvement is pointless 😂
@JB_Whiting, I've been running on Balanced instead of Performance because too many features were deactivated (RT, hair, etc.). I agree that 30fps is a little jarring compared to the other options, but Balanced seems to really hit the sweet spot for me.
@RyuChamploo I definitely hope that gets fixed for Balanced, too, but honestly, I don't mind. I'm usually in the editor mode at the hideout anyway.
Anyone checked if the hideout is also uncapped in balanced mode at 40fps?
@lazarus11 hmm….neither do I?! Are you also from the UK? what’s going onnnn? 😂
@lazarus11 It didn't show up for me until I launched the game and almost got into the main menu. Pressing check for update on the PS5 home screen didn't work.
I literally just got the update through now, thanks
@wildcat_kickz yeah, quality has RT Specular which is pretty lifelike water reflections, and balanced left that part out. But RT Specular will be added to Balanced with PSSR helping keep the performance smooth with the extras, and I assume hopefully even better image quality with the improved upscaler.
@JB_Whiting I tried all 3, I liked the RT specular reflections in quality and had no issue with any judder at all. I will be moving up to Balanced when those effects are included with PSSR, however. If all goes smoothly.
Image quality and graphics mean more to me than frames in console gaming usually, and I can still happily play games in 60, 40 or 30, or unlocked 80/90/120 fps without the transistion seeming too weird. But I will always make sure they look and feel right to me beforehand game by game basis, as some games are better at some things than others. Usually I'd play AC in 60 since Valhalla, but this time the 30 was fine with the added effects. Just before this I was playing KCD2 in unlocked between 55and85fps with VRR 🤷♂️
Yep, an OLED Ex panel. (I'm saying panel slightly toungue in cheek, because people do like to talk about panels, those who are interested in these things, anyway 😛)
@Corc11 Hideout appears to be 40 fps in balanced mode now rather than 30.
What about the 30fps cut scenes and the awful looking character faces in them? It’s 2025. Why do they look like an early PS4 game? Especially when the rest of the game looks so good.
Nothing more frustrating than hunting a ronin and you get stuck on a small tree. Harima ronin hunt is a time-sink.
@BearFut_1800 yeah from uk mate , patch probably has some weird tariff attached to it 😂
@The_Decline_99 I've noticed that with a lot of games lately , when did cutscenes start to look worse than actual gameplay 😂
Welcome update allowing us to dismantle multiple items at once. The one at a time thing was a bit too tedious. Happy about that and enjoying the game quite a lot.
Just tried it with PSSR and and it totally screws up the lighting. The sun now looks like a giant squishy orange marshmallow; horrible banding all round.
Classic PSSR
@JB_Whiting does it remain toggleable or are you locked in to it now? Did you try out all 3 modes? I'm interested to know if changing HDR settings will fix anything for you, as they have that nits setting in the menu which uses what the sun looks like as a reference
@Ravix It's a toggle thankfully. I only tried on performance mode with HDR unchanged. I honestly didn't notice much of a res bump either way.
PSSR is letting me down once again.
‘ Fixed inconsistencies with the 'Throw a Kunai at the closest enemy after an assassination' perk when 'The Tool Master Gear' is equipped on Naoe.’
That’s all I needed - thanks, Ubisoft.
I just tried to sell all of my gear now that I’ve upgraded to this patch and the game crapped itself hahaha
@Ravix yes I was playing in Quality mode.
I'm playing in balanced now.
It looks and runs fantastic. One of the best looking games on PS5 Pro.
I own an RTX4080s/7800X3D PC and have been playing via my Ubisoft subscription on there on and off (I own it outright on PS5) and frankly I feel absolutely no desire to play it on PC again.
Not noticed any issues with PSSR although I'm not looking for them per se.
I went out of town alongside a river and was looking at the wooded hills in the very far distance, and it was super high res but there was some flickering.
However in normal play you'd never notice this, only if you stand motionless (why?) and look for it (why?)!
It's pretty stunning on balanced on the Pro. I'm a 60fps kinda guy but maybe my eyes have got used to it quickly, but it seems more than 40fps
@Cornpop76 sounds good. This will be what I'll choose to use, I think. Gonna test it now and find me some puddles 😅
The horse update is ok but why does it cancel gallop if you click follow road? I may as well just ride there myself twice as fast
Quality of Life updates aren't taking effect?
I have the ! Icon for new items in inventory still, when there's no new items. And the switch character isn't greyed out when it's unavailable, so you still have to hold the button and wait to then be told it's unavailable 👀
Looks good though, and RT is upped in balanced mode
@Teldoestofu yes I was looking at it and thought "wtf is there a bug and it is really in performance mode?".
I even pulled up my Gamebar to check, but that merely told me it was 120fps unfortunately.
I'm wondering if something about PSSR when the camera rotates creates some form of motion blur that improves the perception of smoothness.
The game looks a lot better with PSSR, it seems they done a great job with it.
I'm glad all those people paid £70 to test the game and now it's getting fixed
@Cornpop76 yeah my tv telling me it's clocking 110/118 fps on balanced, bit weird.
@Ravix
Hair FX looks better on pro, I've tried all modes and I'm one of those gamers who can't tell much difference so I stick with performance mode.
@Dampsponge
I paid £58 for disc version and the game just works, this patch is basically qol stuff, to be honest the 30fps hideout didn't really bother me that much cause I don't spend much time there, auto horse follow path Will help those with disabilities of the hands, nothing major in this patch for me personally, great game but novelty is waring off now, great open world 👍
Using a tanto is still bugged. For anyone that hasn't come across it, once you equip it, and start using it in combat, at some point, it will randomly bug out and stay ready which sticks you in combat non stop. You can no longer equip or unequip any gear or weapon.
@lazarus11 This is a strange one, my Samsung mini led tv is reporting 60fps in quality mode with pssr enabled, is that possible ?? The options menu says quality mode is recommended. When i try balanced mode the tv reports 120fps ? Both HDR and VRR are enabled.
