Sony could turn its excellent platforming franchise Astro Bot into a movie in the future, as PlayStation Productions lead Asad Qizilbash has confirmed the company is "absolutely" considering a film adaptation.
Expanding on the suggestion, Qizilbash explained to Variety how Sony picked up on last year's PS5 entry earning many awards and building up an audience of enthusiasts. "Those are very early indicators for us to want to try and grow that franchise and grow that IP. So we’re constantly looking at that."
"And I would say it’s not just sort of awards and nominations that drive that," he explained. "Sometimes we have IP that’s just got great stories that a creator really wants to adapt it."
While the Astro Bot titles do follow a very basic narrative — the latest being to put back together a PS5 spaceship — the gameplay is very much the focus of the series. However, as The Super Mario Bros. Movie demonstrated in 2023, you do not need to follow an in-depth story to achieve success.
In terms of other projects, PlayStation Productions is also turning Days Gone, Ghost of Tsushima, Gravity Rush, and more into films. There'll also be a God of War TV show. Would you watch an Astro Bot movie? Let us know in the comments below.

> would you watch an Astro bot movie?
Sure why not
Would bring a lot of kids to the PlayStation brand, so pretty smart ideal.
If They Make it kinda like how Pixar did Wall E I could see Astro bot working.
An animated show with different shorts would be better.
Yeah i’d watch it, better make it good, Sony. All those IPs mentioned in the article have so much potential! I really hope they don't F up
Bring on Astro Bot, Days Gone, Ghost of Tsushima, and Gravity Rush!
Is this when everyone say’s they will watch it and it only gets 1.5 million views? I kid i kid
I would watch it, I loved the game. Can’t wait to see what they do with the second game. Astro Bot and Ratchet and Clank are my 2 favorite games from 1st party this generation so far.
Mini episodes like pogo tiny tv would be nice Too
It's got no real plot and none of the characters speak though.
@rusty82 so? Did wall-e speak? If you have imagination, you can come up with all sorts of awesome ideas.
@naruball fair point.
Love astro bot but can't see how they can make a film out of it. Then again they made a movie out of the boardgame battleships so they are desperate enough for ideas
Leave poor Astro alone. Don't make people hate him.
@rusty82 they're not really desperate for ideas, they're desperate for success. Plenty of movies with new ideas are released. Yet the movies that people give a chance to are either sequels or based on a well known ip (e.g. Barbie, Super Mario, Wicked, etc)
@rusty82 I do agree with you, Astro Bot never "speaks" and his games don't have much real stories/plots.
If anyone can pull it off though, it's definitely Sony. I loved both the Ratchet & Clank and Uncharted films, as well as The Last of Us tv show on Max.
Not sure about this one but i love the little guy so I'll give it a watch
Shorts would be a great idea like how Nintendo did the Pikmin ones. They were awsome.
If the last few video game/comic book movies from Sony are any indication of quality, I would rather they didn't.
A cartoon would my do or animated that's it nothing else please or leave it alone
