FromSoftware owns The Duskbloods intellectual property, opening up the possibility of a PS5 port in the future.
While it’s been confirmed that Nintendo has some kind of investment into the online-based Bloodborne spiritual successor, the Elden Ring developer submitted a trademark for the name in Japan recently. The official website also notes that it owns the copyright.
In fact, while the game will be published by Nintendo under license in North America and Europe, FromSoftware will be self-publishing it in Japan.
This all suggests that a PS5 port could happen at a later date – especially if the game is a success.
The wording in the game’s reveal trailer said: “2026. Available only on Nintendo Switch 2.”
This could be read in a couple of different ways: one way could infer it’s a full-on, lifetime Switch 2 exclusive. The other way perhaps implies that it’ll be only available on Switch 2 in 2026, with other formats to follow.
Nintendo doesn’t own the Bayonetta IP either, but it published the second and third games worldwide, including in Japan.
This situation seems more comparable to, say, Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water or Live A Live, both of which were originally published by Nintendo and eventually launched on PS5.
We’ll need to wait and see, of course. It’s unlikely FromSoftware or Nintendo will comment on any long-term exclusivity deals until its relationship expires, so it may be a while before we find out for certain.
For those who haven’t been following, The Duskbloods is a PvPvE online multiplayer effort from famed director Hidetaka Miyazaki.
In a recent interview, he pointed out that FromSoftware will continue making single player campaigns, even though it feels like it’s shifting to multiplayer between this and Elden Ring Nightreign.
Would you want to play this latest release on the PS5, or have you soured on the whole project since learning about its multiplayer format? Let us know in the comments section below.

I assumed as much.
However, I believe that this game will absolutely tank.
I wonder how many Bloodborne fans are really interested in this game, considering it’s a multiplayer game that will more than likely be way weaker when compared to there fantastic single player games like Elden Ring 👀🤔
I know that From Soft has always had some level of mp (well… dating back to Demon’s Souls anyway) but them of all the developers out there, chasing the multiplayer/GaaS/Live Service dollar pains me the most 😢
The more I watch this trailer the less I like the look of it as a concept.
I really don't think we should be calling this Bloodborne's spiritual successor. A multiplayer focused title that showed a jetpack, a T-rex and machine guns in its first trailer is not my idea of Bloodborne, regardless of the aesthetic similarities.
As a souls fan, it is an "instant hard-pass" for me.
Because, I never waste my time for mixed bag approach.
If they do not bother to develop an authentic game (like "Demon's Souls, BloodBorne, Elden Ring, Dark Souls...) I do not bother to buy it.
Simple is that...
I never waste my time for mixed bunch freak of a game. It is so obvious that it is already made by sloppy, copy-paste(s) from their old games...
No! Thank you.
A spiritual successor should at the very least appeal to the same players. A multiplayer game most definitely isn’t a spiritual successor to one of the most popular single player games ever made. Just as with Nightreign I won’t even consider playing this.
I am not too interested in this but I would give it a try - I think it will not sell that well on Switch as it doesn’t really speak to their demographic so it could release on other platforms to recoup the costs later on.
But who knows - I stopped trying to make sense of Nintendo fans when they started to pitch me Xenoblade as a RPG masterpiece or Hyrule Warrrios as a must-have game 🫶🏻
I will get myself a Switch 2, but I have zero interest in multiplayer souls. Same with Nightreign.
Passing on this, regardless of platform. as I have no interest in multiplayer From games. I'll wait for the next single player entry.
Not Interested in Multiplayer. Atleast we have other devs making Khazan the first berserker and Lies Of P to fill the Void
finding it is a pvpve game i have zero interest in it..
Betcha it'll be the best thing since sliced bread when it comes to ps5.
Until then? Trash, an insult to our ancestors and a slap in the face of loyal fans.
It will 100% come to PS5, just like Monster Hunter Rise, SMT V and Master Detective Archives did.
Is anyone dedicated to the switch even into these types of games. The hardware also for time being isnt going to be accessible in the states and overall is very overpriced. I dont see this finding people on nintendo at all
Lost interest in this when I realised it’s not SP.
It's more of a spiritual successor to Elden Ring Nightreign than it is to Bloodborne
The game will probably be fun the way Nightreign is but absolutely not worth buying new hardware for. And tbh I don't really see myself getting excited about a port either
I'm absolutely interested, even if it is multiplayer. But releasing it exclusively for Switch 2, especially now with the increased price and tariffs and pre-order uncertainty - just sounds like a perfect s#&t storm of bad luck for a game that could be a certain best-seller on other consoles and PC based on the From name alone.
I'm not fully on board with the multiplayer focus so I'm fine with waiting to see if this comes to other consoles.
@graymamba This doesn't seem to be game as a service/live service game. Multiplayer yes, but not live service. We don't even know for sure if it can be played single player or not.
@KoopaTheGamer Good job I covered my bases then eh? 😏
Could we get another Sekiro style FromSoft game at some point please?
Surely this game would get a much wider shot on other platforms. Nintendo is quite specifically catering to a younger audience?
@Can-You-Believe-Sith I am a souls addict. Anything remotely souls like is immediately on my radar but I'm not very interested in this. The souls games are very much a single player experience for me with the added bonus of being able to summon gamers for help if needed and the invasion aspect makes for an unexpected and sometimes very unwelcome addition. The new elden ring thing and this being multiplayer centric just turns me right off. I hope it's good but it's not for me.
I figured it would hop to other platforms down the line, likely a year after release if I were to toss a guess in.
It’s funny. If this was a PS5 exclusive, I bet the comments of here would be a lot more positive towards the game.
As for me, I don’t know. Elden Ring is, to date, the only Souls game I’ve liked (and I loved it) and that’s because the multiplayer made it more fun and engaging. I’ll see how I feel about this one as time passes. It could be interesting.
Given the current release schedule, I may be back to being a Switch-first console gamer with PS5 being my secondary console, as what happened to my PS4 when Switch 1 released. I see a couple comments in here that wonder about the perception of Nintendo-first gamers, so there you go. I go back and forth on PS and Nintendo, just sort of depends on the release schedule.
Miyazaki’s lost the plot I’m afraid. Sony and china own a fair bit of From now and china has had ownership in Kadodawa for a while even before the most recent purchase this month. Can’t wait for the Old Yharnam Battlepass 🤢
@somnambulance
I guess you've never read the comments of a single Sony live service game here
@somnambulance I think the comments would be "why is Sony involved with yet another live service game instead of doing Bloodborne".
Even with me being a big Soulsborne fan I still would have no interest in this game if it got ported. It's just Fromsoft experimenting with multiplayer and probably live service too.
There was never a point in Bloodborne where I stopped and said to myself "gosh this story single player nonsense sure is boring, I wish I was battling other players instead".
@Dom_31 "Betcha it'll be the best thing since sliced bread when it comes to ps5."
Are you new here lol. Search up any first party Sony exclusive multiplayer/live service game on this site and click the comments, you will see true horror 😅
Keep a lookout for when Fairgame$ gets another trailer, you will see everyone here turn into a Cenobite and rip the game's soul apart!
@Grumblevolcano yes this. They must be cooking something. Remember the Sony Fromsoft event held in London? I mean what was that all about
Got to agree that calling it a spiritual successor to Bloodborne seems way off at this point.
That's what we all thought when we saw that trailer but for many the wind has been truly taken from those sails because no Bloodborne title would be described as having 'matches'.
I'm still intrigued, but like most of that direct, most of what had me giddy with excitement has been let down in the detail.
Good work on this. It does make sense, because all there other games said "exclusively" on Nintendo Switch 2. This just said "Only available on Nintendo Switch 2 in 2026". Really have to read between the lines sometimes.
I'm one of the (seemingly) few people excited to play Nightreign. I don't see that it'll work especially well with a mixed group, without any way to communicate effectively, but with friends on a headset, I don't see why not. Nevertheless, I would have much less interest in this, whatever it is, should it come to PS5.
Personally the PvPvE focus doesn't really appeal. I (sometimes!) enjoyed the risk of being invaded, playing a souls game with friends online, but I wouldn't want that to be the focus of my experience. A coop PvE style, however, is up my street!
@Grumblevolcano @ChrisDeku I think the comments would be more positive if it was a Sony exclusive, assuredly. There would be a mix, sure, but people haven’t been as negative about Nightreign as expected. There’s a loud vocal minority about many things on this site whether it’s live service or Ubisoft or whatever, but, at the end of the day, most people on this site are more pro-PlayStation than anti anything, and FromSoft is pretty popular. Similar to Nightreign, the response would’ve been positive mostly, but also “Where’s my Bloodborne?”
Wow really we might get another live service souls game to play on ps5 😒
It's a PVPE game. It won't do well overall. Soulsborne players like single-player experiences, not multiplayer only.
@somnambulance wrong, I would hate it even more. This is not a game Souls players want or play. It's not a hate-on for Switch.
Why are you calling the FS Fortnite the spiritual successor of Bloodborne? Just because the one who wins gets the blood chicken dinner? At this point the only goal of these kind of posts are to piss of people LOL.
It's not a spiritual successor. It has a similar art style that's about it.
It can takes it's time. I think my initial excitement was due in part to the Switch 2 event itself. I woke up the next day and watched the trailer again, it looked a whole lot different after the excitement wore off. Now I'm coming to peace with the idea that even Fromsoft are capable of going for the easy money. The crazy thing is they got me twice, first with the Nightreign announcement from 'Wow!' to 'Oh no...' and in such a short amount of time too.
I would doubt this game's gonna be ported. Unless it's a failure on Switch 2 and From approaches Nintendo for their blessing. If it sells well, though, it's successor certainly could. Or Nintendo could snatch that up, too.
Regardless, can't help but feel this game is being treated unfairly. I'm not even going to say it's PlayStation bias; From fans' ostensibly ardent reluctance to even hear out what From has to offer is a tad baffling. Especially seeing it compared to Fortnite and called live-service when all we have to work off is 4v4vE and online-focused. Multiplayer isn't inherently live-service (depending on your definition. But if we're calling this LS, then every multiplayer game is LS, and suddenly LS doesn't even have negative connotations). And 4v4vE is very much not a battle royale. So this isn't Fortnite. In any sense.
Completely fine if a From fan isn't too interested in a From game without single-player. But if you generally like their combat, level design, art direction, enemy design, and playing their games with friends (still know a lot of people clamored for Elden Ring, etc. to have full coop), then — you know — maybe see what this multiplayer game with From-styled combat, level design, art direction, and enemy design has to offer before dismissing it.
Sony: 😈 haha! We'll become the largest shareholder of fromsoft parent company. And those games will be ours!! MUWHAHA..
Fromsoft: 😄 our next game will be a switch 2 exclusive.
Sony: 😶 wha...
/s
As before still doesn't appeal to me as I am not one for multiplayer stuff, I do imagine the game will be popular tho.
Its not in any way a BB successor however, some serious stretching going on there just because it has the word Blood in the title and uses an asthetic that almost all FS games have used in certain areas.
I knew Nintendo wouldn't have the foresight to lock it in..
@RoomWithaMoose I mean they did the most basic b treatment ever with Nightreign. I'm sure it's fun, but I'm kind of surprised people aren't clowning on how it has a closing circle and extraction elements. They aren't exactly breaking ground.
I'm dismissing it because it's an online multiplayer thing. I don't play those.
