Forza Horizon 5 will make its PS5 debut later this month, alongside a new mode named Horizon Realms, which will allow newcomers to experience all of the game’s previously released live service content at once.
Effectively, this repurposes the past three years’ worth of “evolving world” content, meaning you won’t miss out on any of the time limited stuff that’s been released prior to the racer being ported to Sony’s console.
You’ll be able to play these new locations in a couple of ways: Skill Mode will allow you to climb the leaderboards by driving skilfully, while Free Mode will enable you to simply explore with your friends.
Each area will have badges to unlock, with four new cars available for those who finish them all.
They are:
- 2019 Lotus Exige Cup
- 2023 Lamborghini Huracan Sterrato
- 2024 Lamborghini Revuelto
- 2022 Hennesy Mammoth 6x6
So, not only is this a cool new mode that adds plenty of content to an already stacked package, but it should also help PlayStation players catch up on everything they’ve missed.
Thanks, Playground Games!

Something just occured to me - I'll buy this at some point when it's cheap (already played it on Xbox), but the Forza games tend to have a short shelf-life due to the licencing and Microsoft's propensity for delisting them. Pretty sure this is the only Horizon game available, and the only Motorsport is the latest one.
Get 'em while you can.
I bought a Series X just to play Forza Horizon 5 and put well over 110 hours into it. But as noise of Xbox first-party software going multi-platform started to rumble, I sold the console while I could still get decent money for it. I’ve missed Forza ever since and I’m excited to be able to finally pick it up on PS5 and start the campaign all over again.
With any luck, it might even take my mind off of sodding Mario Kart World for a few weeks!
well, this space has been empty on PlayStation brick since DriveClub met its untimely demise. I still prefer DriveClub to anything Forza Horizon has to offer, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't play the hell out of Forza Horizon 5 on xbsx via gamepass. It is a great game to scratch this particular itch.
I wonder if they'll make gyro steering available, like GT7. It's a game changer, and I would double dip on PS5, if true.
@The_Pixel_King
You've pretty much just described my exact situation and circumstances with the Series X.
It's the one and only thing I've missed since selling it and now thankfully I get to do it all again
edit: oh and same for Mario kart as well.... roll on 5th June
Anyone know if this is coming physically? Or digital only?
“ Thanks, Playground Games!”
Anyone ever thought they’d see this phrase on a PlayStation-based site? 😅
@The_Pixel_King I’m the same boat as you, exactly my thinking with waiting for the switch 2 as well. This along with potentially ghost will block out my summer gaming until switch 2, then Mario kart and a month later donkey Kong will cover the rest
@Dodoo
Even if Microsoft does a physical release you'll still have to download the majority of the game like on XSX. Just buy it digitally.
@Dodoo It makes no sense of buying this game physically when it's 175gb.
And they won't make a physical edition with two disks.
@MrPeanutbutterz For what it's worth. I don't think that's a MS thing as much as it is an "any company/anyone who doesn't want to get sued into oblivion, if they don't delist content with expired licenses" thing 🤔
But it is a shame all the old ones have been delisted, they're all pretty great
@Lysterao Oh 100% yeah, see also - Driveclub, Outrun 2006, etc. I do wonder how much is Microsoft skimping on licencing costs? It's not like they can't afford it, and you don't see games like say Need For Speed being delisted.
@Shrek_Realista @DanteDevilHunter didn’t realise the file size was so big, thanks.
@MrPeanutbutterz Hard to say. Could be skimping, but given how common this is industry wide I imagine it's largely a matter of indefinite rights being all but impossible to secure. Actually, I'm not sure you even can.
@MrPeanutbutterz I doubt FH5 will be delisted in next two-three years. They are usually doing that few years after new Horizon will come out.
So if we expect FH6 to come out in 2026 (which is possible), than delisting of FH5 in 2028 sounds like possibility.
@DanteDevilHunter
I’d still prefer to get it physically so it’s a fraction of the cost. A slight increase in convenience isn’t worth paying 10 times as much. If they ever let us trade / sell our digital games then it would be different, but as of now digital gaming is wastefully expensive unless you buy in a deep discount
@Lysterao
Surely they know when the licenses will expire, in which case they should let us know before purchase. If anything it will help them sell copies with the whole FOMO thing.
@Lysterao I wonder how did they negotiate back in the PS2 days for licences? Were they granted with the knowledge that the games would have a finite shelf life?
This is such a great game and easily worth full price. I would love to get it again, but unfortunately there is no cross save between PS5 and Steam. If they ever update it for proper cross save, I'll double dip.
@thefourfoldroot1
I 100% agree with you I buy physical for the majority of my PS5 Pro, but I do buy digital for certain games like FH5 for example. On my Switch I buy all physical games zero digital except Bayonetta which came as a download code with my physical Bayonetta 2. On my XSX it's a mix of physical and digital as it's pointless collecting physical games on Xbox sadly. Because the full game (data) isn't on the disc, so which ever is the cheapest option.
@thefourfoldroot1 Oh I'm sure they know. As for the sales Fomo thing, I can't speak for every series, but I know for the Forza games but Xbox usually start making alot of noise about the licences for a Forza game expiring about 6 months in advance of it being delisted. Over which time they tend to put it on increasingly good sale.
@MrPeanutbutterz No idea, but alot of those sort of things were in their infancy back then. Music rights got alot more codified and alot stricter in the early 2000s.
I doubt they were specifically considering disc life, but they may well have had a date in mind for recalling any unsold discs from selves?
I remember reading something once that said licenses get an automatic extension if there is a new release on a different platform.
That could be absolute nonsense of course.
yea we got Gran Turismo, but thanks though /shrug
@Papasears1982 Forza Horizon is wildly different than GT...
