Update []: Sony is sending out confirmation emails to confirm your current PS Plus membership has been extended for five days.
While we spotted the changes to our account last month, the company is now contacting all subscribers to confirm the compensation has been provided.
The reason for the gesture is due to the PSN outage earlier in the year, which pulled the PS5 and PS4’s network services offline for almost an entire day.
“We appreciate your patience during the recent PSN outage,” the message reads.
“As a token of our appreciation, we’ve automatically extended your PS Plus membership by five days, no action is needed on your part.
“Thanks for being a valued PS Plus member.”
Original Story: Sony has started issuing compensation for PSN’s recent dramatic downtime, which lasted almost 24 hours.
The company promised it’d make good on the loss of service by providing all paying PS Plus members with an additional five days of service, free of charge. The additional time, the company said, would automatically be added to all eligible subscribers’ accounts.
And we can confirm that this is being processed now. We checked the expiry date of our most recent PS Plus Premium payment and can confirm five additional days have been added.
You can check this for yourself by finding your own receipt in your inbox, and then comparing the denoted expiry date to your current membership info.
To do this, login to the PS Store through here, click on your avatar icon, select ‘Subscriptions Management’, and refer to your next payment date. If it’s five days later than what was listed on your most recent receipt, then you’ve received your extension.
Looking online, it seems many have already had the compensation added to their accounts, although it may take a little more time to reach everyone. If you haven’t got it yet, remain patient and check again tomorrow.
How will you be using your additional PS Plus time? Do you think this is satisfactory compensation for the outage? Let us know in the comments section below.

Just checked mine and it's there, old date was 27/02/26 it's now 04/03/26. I don't even think I had my playstation on that weekend either!
Probably should have been 7 days, that way you're guaranteed to get an extra weekend of PS Plus as compensation
Just checked, mine's been added even though I wasn't affected by the outage (I was away that weekend)
I wish there was an option to opt out instead of it just automatically being added on, it's messed up my renewal dates now and I'll probably miss out on the January PS plus sale next year
I renewed my Subscription when it was 35% off so assuming there's a similar sale next year, these extra 5 days that I've been "gifted" will potentially cost me an extra £35 - £40 when / if I come to renew next time
@Member_the_game yeah I agree with you. I'm in the same boat. I saw you previously mention this and people attacked you which I thought was pretty petty. Don't get me wrong it's not the end of the world if I miss the days of play renewal sale but you'd be an idiot to choose the full price if the option of a sale is there
"Do you think this is satisfactory compensation for the outage?"
I wouldn't normally go as far as to say this, but there are people out there who really need to touch grass if going for one day without your PlayStation messed you up to the degree that you are still unhappy about it.

@QualityGeezer
Yeah as you say, it's not the end of the world, just annoying as I'd purposely timed it so that it always expired when the sale was on. These extra days will probably take me past the sale period.
It wouldn't be so bad if you could stack the subscription as people were suggesting last time but Sony seem to have put a stop to that.
The sale prices are either for new subscriptions or to upgrade from one tier to a higher one
Since I've bought 20 years of subscription in advance I can't really confirm if the 5 extra days have been added to my account but I'll take everyone's word for it
@The_Pixel_King
Definitely couldn't back in January.
My existing subscription expired on 31st January, prior to that the only thing I could do was upgrade my Extra subscription to Premium....It was roughly about 35p to upgrade for the remaining 10 days
I had to wait for the subscription to expire before it would offer me a 12 month plan at the discounted price
and for the non ps+ members that couldnt play games ?
This is pathetic from Sony
@The_Pixel_King you can't stack it unfortunately mate
My sub just ran out last week, so does this allow me to get those 5 days still? Or I am I just out of luck my sub is done
@MrPeanutbutterz Thank you for your kind words regarding my so-called entitlement. I wasn't actually talking about myself because I couldn't care less about PS Plus compensation, however, I do like to think of others less fortunate than myself. Maybe you have all the free time in the world, and for that I congratulate you, but some people may only have one free day per week. Therefore 5 days compensation may be of no use to them, depending on when their subscription expiry falls. But you can call them self entitled if it makes you happy
Haven't got PS+ any more (not since Dec last year) but I also couldn't play any non-disc games either. What do we get for that Sony? Nowt.
Just checked. They've given me 5 extra years.
Got PSPlus again on the 20th of February and my subscription shows it ending on the 25th of this month. So it looks like I got the extension as well.

I don’t see the extra days yet. But otherwise my sub was running out this Friday anyway, so I won’t start with a new game anymore.
@KillerBoy why is it pathetic are or you just a troll? 5 days free for 1 days minor inconvenience seems commendable too me
@QualityGeezer

Yup I gots mine 🤪
Not got mine still says the 27/03/25 but I downgraded to basic so maybe why I'll check over the best few days

I am just happy they got it fixed in 24 hrs. I didn't expect Sony to give anything to me, besides I had plenty of games that did not need online access.
@TedLassoNikes @MrPeanutbutterz Jesus get a room you two..
Yep, got mine! I've now got 17 days to buy a bunch of cheap psn credit before my subscription renews, instead of the original 12 days.
So people that play free to play games I don't need a PlayStation Plus subscription but we're still affected get ***** all
@Nakatomi_Uk Not got mine either. Unbroken Plus/Essential membership, many years. UK.
I don't really care that it was down for a day and I don't care that we got 5 extra days. It's a non issue that was blown out of proportion. Nothing like what happened back in the PS3 days.
I’ve been too busy touching grass to notice, since that was the prevailing advice. Too bad the grass is all still dead. Except for that guy down the street who has fake grass which is green all year round. Helps with the allergies too.
@LifeGirl This was my stance as well. 5 days don't amount to much given I am, well, not always at my playstation due to adulthood. But free stuff for something inconsequential is fine by me.
I don't want extra days. It may take me over the sale period
@Czar_Khastik 20+ steps ahead! Now that's a reason to smile lol
I never saw it on mines, and I have been a existing customer for so many years for sure since ps3.
I usually buy PsPLus 2-3 years at a time and this is the 1st year in a long time I haven't been able to do that.
I never saw any days added to my subscription before it expired. Also couldn't get the $99.99 deal, cause I'm not a new customer which would have been nice to have.
I hope they learn to do stuff to honor their loyal day 1 gamers as well.
Got mine. Seems a good deal to me. Thank you Sony.
Didn't get mine yet.
it says 4/3/2025 so I don't know if it is today or next month
Got mine, which will make me not able to renew at Black Friday pricing. Almost seems they did this on purpose to push people beyond the Days of Play and Black Friday sales.
THIS IS HORRIBLE!!! last year ps plus was on sale until 9 june for new users, these five days means you still have ps plus when the same offer appears this year.
@Dampsponge You have to be kidding. LOL! Why should you be compensated for something you don't even pay for?
Because when the PSN goes down it doesn't just affect people who have PlayStation Plus
@Czar_Khastik
Thats a lie cause you could only stack a maximum of 3 or 4 yrs onto a account before it wouldnt let you anymore. So 20 seems way off
@Member_the_game just a quick silly question about the photo is that you by the way? I saw an article today in the sun website on the picture
@Czar_Khastik Yeah, that's a lie! 😂🤣😂
Got my email from generous Sony.
@Dan12836666
Which picture? I can only assume you mean my profile picture..... if so no that isn't me , I just found the Tony Hawk reference in the picture to be quiet amusing lol.
Out of Curiosity do you have a link to the article
Never got it, although my subscription ended quite some time after the outage (March 7th).
@Member_the_game https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/34223115/bored-club-girl-what-she-looks-like-now/
My plus is expiring this month so I guess it'll be cool to have a few more days before it's gone.
@Dan12836666
No way.... she looks very different now..
For the record though, I can confirm once again that it definitely isn't me haha
I'd much rather have a free game please, 5 days of PS+ is pointless when I'm subscribed thru April 2027.
So the service goes down for one day and Sony give people five days free
Personally seeing the ungrateful attitude of people Sony should have given a single day for free and be done with it
These people moaning don't deserve the generosity Sony have offered
@Member_the_game
Can I ask where you are located for this to happen? I’m in the UK and the sale is always available to me even when I have several days left on my sub (this is the November sale, but I would think the same rules would apply)
My subscription ended a few days after the outage. I thought that meant I wouldn't get compensation. I was very surprised to get an email on March 27, telling me they were giving me 5 days of PS+ free... from March 25. I lost 2 "free days" because I happened not to use the console during the working week. They could have sent an email earlier or a notification in the PS app, but no. At least I was able to grab the monthly games for March.
@Danbottomburp I don't want it personally. It might take me over the sales day for renewal then it'd cost me an extra 30 quid to renew.
@thefourfoldroot1
I'm also in the UK.... to be more Specific.... near Liverpool in the North West of England (not that that should make a difference lol)
It's very strange, it almost seems Sony has different rules and parameters for different people.
I've definitely had the same issue for the last few years though, where I've had to wait for it to completely expire to take full advantage of the sale... Otherwise it's just pay a few pence to upgrade to the highest tier for what remains of the contract.
Interestingly though, the sale I'm referring too has been in January after Christmas.... Maybe it's slightly different in November
@Member_the_game @thefourfoldroot1
Sony's offers are inconsistent to say the least. It wouldn't let me take advantage of any offers/sale either while I had a ongoing sub. I'm hoping there'll be some sort of deal available before the end of April, but I'm not holding my breath. Usually the offers come at the same time every year, and the next ones probably won't be before the next Days of Play (end of May/early June).
It was one day of minor inconvenience so tbh they don't owe anyone anything, and it maybe affected 8 hours of peoples actual time. Giving 5 days free is just a nice gesture, but certainly not owed. Its not really any different to losing your net for a few hours or having a power cut. Its certainly not the outrage that some are making it out to be.
Got the email and felt nothing lol
Got the email two days into the free five days which is more than a little shoddy.
I forgot there even was a temporary outage. I was probably playing something offline. I didn't really expect anything for 24hrs of downtime, and still don't.
5 days??? lol that’s silly 🤪
Really frustrating I was checking every day by going to my library on the app and seeing if a recent Plus game was locked, to see if I'd gotten my 5 days. I'd seen reports and people say they got theirs and then, after a couple weeks, probably one of the only days I didn't check, I got it. I found out the next day, missing a day, and then had plans those couple nights so I got like 1 day to use it. I appreciate that they did that, but that really sucked how I waited and then had it suddenly happen without me knowing and wasting part of it.
Honestly… I’d forgotten about the outage. Getting old 😂
