While crossplay is an overall excellent feature that every multiplayer game should support, it does introduce some flaws when console and PC players are matched against one another. Hacking is still prevalent on PC despite many measures to stop it, and it can result in an unfair experience for console users — and the PC players doing things fairly.
For years now, PS5 and PS4 players have urged one another to completely disable crossplay in Call of Duty games and Warzone to prevent being matchmade with PC users who could be cheating. Now, though, a new crossplay option that arrives in Thursday's Season 3 patch makes that decision much easier.
Activision is implementing a new crossplay option for Black Ops 6 and Warzone that lets you restrict matchmaking to only other players on consoles, filtering out anyone on a PC.
This setting will be available for unranked and ranked multiplayer matches, and ranked Warzone games. It's warned that enabling this option may extend your matchmaking times, but given there was hardly ever a wait when players turned crossplay off entirely on PS5 and PS4, this shouldn't be an issue due to the large player base on consoles.
On PC, players are able to hack the game in a variety of ways to give themselves many different advantages. This could result in you being killed through no fault of your own. Another two crossplay options will be available alongside the new one, either disabling the feature entirely or opening your matches up to every platform.
As part of Thursday's Season 3 update, the classic Warzone map Verdansk returns to the Battle Royale shooter. There'll also be new multiplayer maps, modes, and weapons.

CHOICE is good.
This is new for Ranked, but unranked has had this for a number of years.
Still, choice is good 👍🏻
That's the one thing I miss the most from my console days after going to PC. No cheating &¤#&/¤"#s in multiplayers games.
Sometimes you can clearly tell someone is cheating, but most times its more of a suspicion that something is off (like wallhacks and no recoil) and that just makes the game less fun all around.
If you can already disable crossplay entirely, does this new option significantly improve matters for PS5/4 owners where the user base is large, or just improve things for XBox users with a much smaller user base?
The key thing is removing PC players due to cheating by a few (but significant) bad apples, but if this could already be done by turning off crossplay (which I think is stipulated by Sony as a must have option), I dont see the need for this update?
@Rich33
While the user base is large for Playstation already, having Xbox players added is a good thing too. I like to play with a friend who has an Xbox but we don't like going up against PC players. Now we don't have to and can still play with each other so I would say there is a very valid need for this update.
Cheating on PC was the main reason I bought a console, I'd never go back
I do have a more than capable PC right now but gaming on it is a no thank you very much
I'm not an amazing gamer but I do deserve and want fair matches, cheating is just wrong!
How can we send people back and forth to space but cannot stop cheats being used in video games ?
While I've stopped playing blops6 it is amazing that they're finally doing it! PC cheats destroy the game.
Hey! Cartman wasn't a hacker in that episode of South Park (and nor was the griefer, if I recall correctly he just had "no life"). Cartman is many things, but the use of his image here is downright libellous.
@Korgon
Ah - fair point - I hadn't thought about that (and I thought it sounded a bit of an odd option for them to have suddenly added).
Why can't cheaters and hackers just play with other cheaters and hackers and have then separated from normal players. They should have a cheaters only lobby.
Most people that think there being cheated on is bs anyway someone's better then you and is on pc he must be a cheater 🫣😂
