British developer Rebellion has revealed last week's release of Atomfall marks the studio's biggest launch in its history, with 1.5 million people playing the PS5, PS4 detective gem. The game released on Xbox Game Pass on day one, which will have helped to bolster its player stats.
What's worth noting, though, is Rebellion's other 2025 game, Sniper Elite: Resistance, also launched on the subscription service. Therefore, Atomfall is still proving more popular than past efforts from Rebellion despite the delivery method.
Sales numbers weren't shared by the team, but CEO and co-founder Jason Kingsley told IGN: "To have surpassed the 1 million players in such a short space of time speaks volumes for the creativity and dedication of the entire team here at Rebellion. Our size and stability mean that we can take risks to create something as different as Atomfall. Happily, that risk is paying off."
Rebellion will now work on creating more content for the game, which already has an expansion confirmed for the future. If you've enjoyed getting lost in the British quarantine zone, our Atomfall guide is on hand to provide help and guidance.
In our Atomfall PS5 review, we awarded the "beautifully British" game an 8/10 score and said: "The mystery at the heart of the alternate 1960s setting is gripping, forever teasing clues and solutions to a way out of its rural quarantine zone."

That's splendid, I might add! Quite marvelous, actually!!! Congrats!
I'm absolutely overjoyed that a local studio did well with a creative new setting and IP. Especially one that I'm enjoying so far. They could've easily just never made any non Sniper Elite game forever if they really wanted to. This gives me some hope, even if much of this is Game Pass.
I'm loving it. Rare to play a game set in England. Positively unique for one set in Cumberland (Cumbria)
@Frmknst Yes. That is how this works.

Marketing might have something to do with….. you know what? Never mind. Congratulations to the studio! 🥳
Been absolutely hooked on it all weekend!
@Frmknst Trying to find what you actually like, the search continues....
As I said on PX, I’m happy that so many people have tried this game, great for the devs.
I just hope that the many who played and stopped within first 30minutes, give it a real chance once the bugs and issues are patched.
Many are saying they dropped it early on (the beauty of GP)
@Oram77 Naughty Dog games so long as they don’t make a single narrative choice they disagree with based on past comments…
I played it for a bit through Game Pass, but decided to buy it for my Steam Deck. It seemed like a good SD game and the few things I’ve seen about it in there said it played great on it.
@Oram77 They like disliking things duh haha
I really enjoyable game so far which is very much a great 8/10 experience if you take out the bugs. It's great that they could get the Gamepass money to ensure the game pays for itself. It allows AA Devs to take creative risks. I brought a copy on Xbox and PlayStation to support the developers.
Glad to see its doing well as its really good.
Happy for the Devs, even if I couldn't get into it. Ran around for 3 hours clueless and nothing interesting happening. Even with objectives turned on which didn't actually help all that much.
This will be the first time this will be said in gaming history, atomfall needs a whistling on/off toggle.
I'm having a load of fun with this, a weird cross between a quatermass movie and a john wyndham novel (maybe a touch of nicholas fisk in there too) - just digging the 'triffids'. Also love the amount of easter eggs they've hidden away in it (always check behind the waterfalls!). It was a bit bewildering and slow to get going, with a peculiar use of regional accents in the mix adding to the confusion, but once you find your stride it really is quite entertaining. And nice to see a British studio deliver a polished product in a British setting, makes a nice change!
Skipped it on Gamepass, bought it on PS5. It's not every day you get to support a UK developer. I haven't gotten through much of the game but I'm hoping Rebellion Press add their own spin-off series of books.
I will get to it, eventually. Xenoblade X, Star of Providence, and Riftbreaker are a lot rn. I'm glad Rebellion swung for the fences. The Zombie Army and Sniper Elite games are great, just very tired of WW2.
Just got the platinum a few minutes ago. Really cool game and I feel like Rebellion flexed some more creative muscles with this one. Hopefully we get more of these type of games and we hold back on a 50th entry into Sniper Elite for a little.
I rarely purchase any game that I know has released on Game Pass at launch - as it is a model that I think is a complete blight on the industry - this might be one of those games I do, but I will wait for a sale and bugs / issues to be fixed first.
completed it took me 10 hours did 4 of the 6 endings
good game well worth my time
It is awesome game. I like it a lot. The very cool are the options you have in the story. I also very much like the graphics.
@Frmknst are people enjoying themselves wrong? Did you sense happiness and just had to log on?
@PerpetualBoredom
Jolly good show.
