For us, Sphinx and the Cursed Mummy was one of those PS2 games that we used to see all the time in the preowned sections of GAME shops — and over 20 years later, it's making a surprise comeback.
Okay, that was a bit mean. Sphinx was — and hopefully still is — a solid PS2-era action platformer, complete with cooky characters and a fun ancient Egypt setting. It released all the way back in 2003 (it was also available on the Xbox and GameCube), and was much more recently remastered on Nintendo Switch, in 2019.

That same remaster has now arrived on PS4, priced at a reasonable $14.99 / £11.99. It took a few years, but Sphinx fans can finally rest easy...
Did you play Sphinx and the Cursed Mummy all those years ago? Don't you dare miss those jumps in the comments section below.

Now, that's a name I've not heard in a long time.
A long time....
Always remember this game being quite good.
This game was fun back then. Not sure it will hold up well today though.
Is "cooky" a British way to spell it?
Thought this came out years back but it was Switch and PC, but no Playstation. Odd.
In before all the people complaining that companies are still releasing PS4 games in 2025 years after PS5 launched.
I'll be getting this. Was one that got away for me. It came out when all I played was Pro Evo. Missed a few gems as they launched in that era
Glad to finally see this make it's way to Playstation
I'm pretty sure I didn't really like it on PS2 so I will probably like it even less now, lol.
Kya Dark lineage or something, that's a platformer from PS2 that needs a remaster.
AWESOME, I swear I remember reading that it was supposed to come out on PS4 alongside PC/Switch when it got the HD treatment? Could be wrong though (might've just been speculation that it'd come to PS4 too)
Been sitting on this on Switch and BackCompat on XsX but since neither has Trophies/Achievements I never bothered... Grabbing the PS4 Version now then 😅
I've never heard of this (surprisingly?), but for £11.99 that is risk taking territory. Excited for all these remasters of classics!
I have fond memories of playing this and several others with my late uncle ♥️
It's a brilliant Zelda-like title!
I have this game for PS2 still in the wrapper
@DogPark Nope. It's "kooky". I googled "cooky" and it's a rarely used alternative spelling of "cookie" but that's obviously not what he meant.
I wouldn’t call it an Action PLATFORMER. It was 100% a Zelda-like.
Fair to offer. Xbox BC, was on Switch for a while now. Wonder why it took them so long for LS platforms then hmm.
I used to love the animation of the mummy when he caught fire and was trying to put it out. The game was fun then, but will it stand up today, im not so sure.
@bestuardo I vividly remember playing this on Gamecube and there certainly is platforming. In particular the gauntlet challenges (Corridor of Champions)
