Update []:
It seems like the rest of the games media only just caught onto this, so here’s a timely reminder in case you missed it: Hades 2 will be a timed console exclusive on Nintendo Switch 2 and the original Switch.
That means you’ll need to wait for the PS5 version, much like with the previous roguelike from Supergiant Games.
Writing on X, here’s what the studio said: “Hades 2 v1.0 will launch simultaneously on our Early Access platforms (Steam and Epic Games Store), Nintendo Switch 2, and the original Nintendo Switch.”
The question is: when will v1.0 arrive – and how long will the timed console exclusivity last?
Original Story: Hades 2, the roguelike sequel already available in Early Access on PC, will launch first as a console exclusive for the Nintendo Switch 2 and original Switch.
Press materials from the Mario maker confirm it’s got dibs on the Supergiant follow-up, which will supposedly take “advantage of the new system’s higher-definition display with responsive action at a target of 60 frames-per-second”.
The relationship makes sense we suppose, as the original Hades was a huge hit on Switch, and didn’t launch on PlayStation until much, much later on.
Nintendo has seemingly lined up a series of other timed exclusives for its new system’s launch, including the new Yakuza 0: Director’s Cut and the arcade port of Ridge Racer from Arcade Archives overseer Hamster.

Yeah, I mean Nintendo did help with Hades 1 marketing a lot and when it launched on Switch, it was very successful. So makes sense Supergiant would want the same thing.
Besides, I can’t wait for Hades 2 soon enough. Already beat the main story for Hades 1.
I've bought every SuperGiant Game and have been a fan since Bastion. Pyre, Hades, & Transistor would probably all make my list of favorite games of all time.
I get why they have to do it, but seflishly I'm annoyed that once again I have to wait while everyone else gets their hands on their new game, before the platform I play on. It's the same way I felt with Hades 1
@mlm043 I feel you. I love their games too.
Transistor was the game that made me buy a PS4 when I was hesitating with an Xbox and I loved every second of it (and it was the month this game came free on PS+).
Because I have the best friends in the world, I'm also a proud owner of the Limited Run collector's edition ^__^
Hades was a thing of beauty and, even though I'm a bit concerned they are going for a "sequel" inistead of a new original game, I can't wait to play it, I trust those people 100%.
Honestly, I'm hesitating buying a Switch 2 just to play Hades 2 on time. I missed the Switch one entirely and I believe there are some games I'd really like to try (Triangle Strategy, I'm looking at you)
Makes complete sense, been playing this on the deck since it launched in early access and it's head and shoulders above the original. Quite literally double the size. So they definitely made the right call.
Damn, Hades is one of my all time favorites. It’ll reach PS5 eventually… and with more polish when it does arrive. So I can be patient… probably 😂😂
I'm relieved to hear it's like Hades 1's timed exclusivity. I still need to play it though...
That's really frustrating.
I bought Hades in a nice sale.
I thought I might like it, especially when playing a handheld, but it didn't catch on just yet.
"He who laughs last, laughs loudest"
I bought Hades (1), but haven't played it yet, so I really don't mind waiting.
The annoying thing is that this works. I'll probably just buy a Switch 2 this year because of this.
Hiya - I’m not sure this article is correct. I’m in the supergiant games discord and this was in their announcement channel yesterday:
Watch the latest **Nintendo Direct** video showcase to see ***Hades II*** running on the forthcoming **Nintendo Switch 2**!! <:MelGrin:1237084461401641090> <:Hades2Fire:1237084459543695462>
(I also got to say a few words about the game in person!)
While we still have no release date for ***Hades II*** v1.0 since our Early Access is ongoing, we can confirm its console launch will be on **Nintendo Switch 2**, as well as the original **Nintendo Switch**, where Hades got its start! <:zaggrin:1012805270776316078>
We haven't ruled out bringing ***Hades II*** to other platforms down the line, though our current focus is only on these and our Early Access versions. Thank you for your continued interest and support as we get closer to the finish line!
I’m surprised that push square is reporting that it is coming to ps5 later as that simply hasn’t been confirmed. I’d say it’s likely…but not confirmed.
Playing the worst version first is such an incentive
Hades 2 is one of the few games I'd have considered getting on release, with this news it helps to squash any hype around it as there's much less temptation to buy on release when the game has been out for a while elsewhere. Helps me not to give in and simply wait for it to be available either on a subscription service or for peanuts.
It has been in early access for so long, it's ridiculous if it's a switch exclusive at 1.0 launch. No other reason than SuperGiant just being greedy and hoping for more sales. Really poor look for them if true.
I also want to say as someone who’s been playing it for the nearly full year it’s been in early access - it’s a raging banger right now. The early access version at launch had more content than hades 1. It’s basically fine tuning bits now and adding the last chunks of story content. It’s been incredibly stable on my crappy Mac mini and I’ve played 160 hours so far. It’s different to the first one but you couldn’t have 2 without 1.
@Kramlar I agree completely that it isn’t confirmed from the language you posted. Just as a comfort, I note that Supergiant used this exact same language in this exact same situation when Hades was in early access. It ended up on PS5 shortly after launch.
As you said, nothing guaranteed, but I would be shocked if we weren’t playing this on PS5 relatively soon.
That's a nice surprise, gives me more time to get my backlog back in order.
as long it will come out on ps4/5 some day too... .
You all complaining about timed exclusivity, but when PS does it it’s meh. When Xbox or Nintendo does it: WAHHH WAHHH WAHHHHHH
Enter the Gungeon 2 timed exclusive as well?
@JP80 lmao this is a fire point and a good roast
@Westernwolf4 it came after 1 year, so not exactly soon
@Herculean I mean the game IS coming to Nintendo Switch 1 as well so.. if you have that, just play it on NS1.
@JP80 Not sure how this is the worst version. It runs very well on Switch 1. And yeah it doesn't have 4K, but it goes up to the Switch 1's max resolution in dock (which is 1080p) and max in handheld (which is 720p), plus it runs at 60 fps quite nicely.
@anoyonmus Excellent point. But too late now, I already pre-ordered!
@get2sammyb Read the comment by @Kramlar ?
I bought Hades 1 for like £6 (I think) I know it was cheap maybe £4 anyway I haven't played it yet on my PS5 have to give it ago once I've finished NFS 2015
Probably no outrage now because its Nintendo but i dont mind you get the better package, maybe cheaper and a complete edition if we are lucky.
@anoyonmus I think youre blind most of the Ninty and Xbox fanboys get all worked up on this site most.
Day one buy on my original Switch for sure!
@anoyonmus Phil Spencer himself has complained more about third party exclusivity than anyone on this site, yet Xbox still does it!
Media the past year screaming about exclusives being bad. Nintendo announces a number of exclusives. Media screaming how exclusives are awesome and its great for nintendo and the industry
Looking forward to picking this up on Switch 2. Confident we'll get full 4K 60 on their new machine.
Fine with waiting on this. Something that often bothers me about roguelikes is that I play them months, if not years after launch and they are Frankenstein monsters of awkward add-ons and updates. I don't know if I'm playing The Game or some free DLC. Hades 1 avoided that by early access and a slow console rollout, so by the time it came out on PS5, everything was integrated into the main story in a way that made sense and was balanced to feel like a natural difficulty curve.
Might pick up on the switch (1) tbh. Not because i can't wait to play it, but I feel like I would have played the first game more on a handheld
Not a big issue now we get the better version at a lower price with extra's probably.
I quite like hades. I bought it when it launched on the ps5 and I thought it was a bit over hyped to be honest but it's still a great game. I hope hades 2 is a more substantial game than the first.
Glad i bought this on steam deck oled on the first day of early access. Hades 1 is one my favourite game of all time. I don’t think i can wait that long for the ps5 version.
We’ll get the most polished version so I’m fine. As long as it actually makes its way over here eventually
@RagnarLothbrok Yeah the double standard is staggering. Nintendo keeps getting free pass over and over.
@BusyOlf
Possibly Enter the Gungeon came out for PS and Xbox a while after the switch version.
I’m hoping so as I don’t really have any plans on getting a Switch 2
Jesus Christ... Having to wait yet AGAIN, is a massive pain in the ass.
@anoyonmus Can you not turn this into a console war thing? Some people don't care about exclusivity battles and just want to support the games they love, like everybody else.
