Despite the twisting and turning of Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, the third game in the trilogy will be sticking to just a single, linear path.
Over the years, some fans have wondered whether the games would eventually branch off from the original events of Final Fantasy 7 — perhaps in a way that's influenced by the player's actions.
Both Remake and Rebirth feature some degree of player choice. There are side quest stories that can deviate depending on whether you've completed previous objectives, and in Rebirth specifically, there's a character relationship system that's built on dialogue options.

But neither game offers a way to change the core plot — and it'll be the same approach for Final Fantasy 7 Revelation.
"I want to be very clear about the ending," director Naoki Hamaguchi tells Automaton.
"Numerous fans have stayed with us throughout this trilogy, and we intend to provide a definitive conclusion as our answer to them. In that sense, nothing has changed – there is only one ending."
He continues: "The overall direction of the story does not change, so everyone can rest assured about that."
Hamaguchi does, however, reveal that side content can once again change based on your actions: "The choices players make on the journey toward that conclusion will affect their individual experiences, as well as the stories told through side content."
Did you expect Revelation to do things any differently? Is Hamaguchi smart for drawing a line under this before the inevitable speculation from fans? Stick to the plan in the comments section below.
