I thought they would update MAFIA 3 vehicles textures come PS5, but here we are. KCD1 implemented texture quality that is night and day in the remaster. Hangar 13 been making some strange choices.

Hmm I have mafia DE downloaded but I can't remember if that's a PS plus one or not. Probably can't upgrade that one. If the pricing is reasonable for just that one I might download (if you can separately, I don't want them all) but given the PS4 version is currently £34.99 that's unlikely.
Man I'm gonna miss physical. Mafia trilogy is £20, upgrade to PS5 version and you could sell it for that afterwards when done.

@Dalamar that’s a classic of gaming history. But it was in some way possible on the original version back then on pc… so it’s possible here as well. It’s like the Bloodborn of racing missions.

@Mr-Cage It's a new native PS5 version, so you'll be downloading a full game rather than an update to the PS4 version.

Shame. I know it's not popular but I had a soft spot for Mafia 3.

I actually have it on PC but had dumped all my time into the PlayStation version and can't be arsed to do all that again so my Save Game is stuck on PSN.

I'd like to finish off the main story and do the expansions but not at 30fps.

I'd be happy with just 4K 60fps version.

I think the game had underlying potential though, such that if a more substantial remake was released, with a lot of the grind removed and greater variety introduced, it could be a really great game.

@Reeneman I did in on PC by myself back in school. But when I played remake, I just bribed my roommate with ramen and made him complete it.

They should have done the bare minimum and given Mafia 3 a 60fps upgrade as well. That game needs it badly.

Mafia 1 been put up to £35 on the PS store for this announcement where as the whole trilogy is under £20 physical and you can sell it afterwards. And people laugh at people who try and save physical. They have you by the balls

Nice, I remember playing and beating the remake the weekend it launched and enjoying it a lot. I never played the original and the remake was not in my anticipated games back then but a YT video made me interested.

@Dalamar I’m pretty sure if I dug far enough back on the forums I’d find the video of my back wheel giving out on the final straight of the race in 1st position. Literally a straight run to the finish line and the car imploded out of nowhere

Have they fixed the broken mess that is Mafia 3? Really difficult to platinum that game has a result. The bugs stop progression and the workarounds are tedious and just as buggy.

@QwarktasticLombax I had to check my trophies after you said that, it looks like I did get it but remember hardly anything about the game. It was right after my first playthrough of Wildlands which comes full circle because I'm playing it again right now (scouting a base as I type) the updated version. The racing stopped me from platinuming the first game. Hate is a strong word, for that race it fits. I have it on PS2 and couldn't do it there either. But it did come with a cool poster, so that's something.

I actually think this is a disrespect to the fans.

Reality is the og mafia game has already had a true from the bottom up remake so adding a bit more to it for ps5, 60fps is nothing more than a update.

While they leave Mafia 2 with the worst remaster and now are trying to sell it in a collection.

Do the right thing remaster 2 and 3 properly and then sell it as a collection.

I played Mafia The Definitive Edition a couple months ago. It was my first experience with the series. I liked it alright, like 7/10 level of like. Nothing life changing. It would have been nice to have the full PS5 visual and performance that this is bringing but honestly some of my issues with the game were more from the antiquated gameplay and game flow rather than how it looked or performed. I’m sure back in its release timeframe (PS2? I think) it was great but there are parts that feel a little dated when played through a modern lens.

Re: the lack of PS Plus update: all good and totally unsurprising. I have an import of the Mafia Trilogy on the way since I won’t be renewing PS plus once my previous Essential yearly subscription ends. Might as well actually own em!

Xbox owners get the shaft on this one if they have the discs and not a digital copy, amusingly. Only digital versions are eligible over on Team Green.

I think initially I was honing in on your last statement about grabbing you by the balls, and I assumed it was about digital games in general and I went off on a tangent in my head about digital games and them not being so bad. I've always had good deals with digital and games that have been out for years you get for a couple of quid even without discounts.

@TheArt He probably cheated, or used some extra strong Yorkshire tea. I watched someone on Youtube do it over and over again, I'm sure he was high, he was so chill about the whole race and kept showing clips of him doing it again and again with no issues. I tried for three-nights in a row, raged, deleted the game. I almost considered having someone do it for me through share-play but I like to earn my trophies, it became a white whale. One that might give Balam many sleepless nights. Captain Ahab didn't just lose his leg, he lost his mind too, I need to save what sanity I have left.

This isn't shocking because if Plus members got the free update we would have got the game for free as Plus only gives you what Plus gives you at the time and doesn't take into account future free versions. Basically the PS5 version wouldn't be part of Plus meaning Plus members would have been giving an actual free game.

@DennisReynolds That's not actually the case. When newer versions release and are offered to Plus members, the PS Plus license usually just extends to that version as well. Take FFVII Remake for example. They eventually offered intergrade for PS Plus subscribers who had perviously claimed the PS4 version of Remake, but you still need PS Plus to play Intergrade - it's not owned outright.

@AK4tywill Must be case by case then. When Black Desert got its PS5 version Plus owners got the PS5 version for free.

A guy I work with brought up Mafia 3 the other day so I reinstalled it. It's not perfect, but the klan killing is real good.

I bought Mafia 1 and 2 Definitive Editions on PS4, now the store thinks I got the PS Plus one's so no upgrade. Sony need to sort this out once and for all.

People voted with their wallets and have been okay for paying for digital console games. Despite them costing the same as physical. I hope they don’t lower digital prices and increase them. Rockstar set the trend now.

I have had occasions where I have mysteriously ended up owning the license for games I claimed through PS Plus, though it's hard to find any consistent reason why - except that they tend to be games I claimed back in the PS3/early PS4 era. Thankfully, for that reason, I got the Sly, Ratchet and Jak PS3 remasters for free. I suspect Playstation have since tightened up on this.

It is obviously a lot better than the PS4 version with 60fps and a boost on the visual sliders but I have to say I'm a little disappointed with the overall image quality and the TAA(?) leaves a lot to be desired - it's a little rough around the edges. I'm playing on PS5 Pro too so the addition of PSSR would be such a boon, although hard to implement. Looks lovely otherwise though.

It's such a classic game though. The story and writing are just soo good. I love 30's/40's/50's settings in games. Amazing cultural era.

Edit: FYI it feels like they've definitely made the dreaded "race" a lot easier this time around. Finished first try and stayed far ahead in 1st for the entire race. Usually the rubber banding would've f***ed me 😂
