As an HP fan, I think Legacy is a great game. 40mil copies is crazy, even if a lot of those were probably sold at crazy discounts. I picked up a second copy on Switch 2 when it was on sale for like $12. Can’t wait to see what they do with a sequel.

Keep Hogswarts, Hogsmead and the upper half of the map of the original, remove the lower half of the map, maybe add a new school (Durmstrang or BeauxBatons), focus on the school life (lessons, social relations, extracurricalur activities ...), and introduce more "teeth" to the game (aside villains, everybody was too "nice" to feel real). Also felt some locations where not fully used (school, forest, hogsmeade ...). Reduce the busy work (merlin trails) and rework loot

I look forward to playing it in eight years.

Haven't played the original yet, but as a huge Potter nerd, I'd love it if we could explore some of the REALLY secret areas of Hogwarts as hidden unlockables. Like you can access the Chamber of Secrets if you unlock parseltongue, and you just try it out in the girls' bathroom just to see if it will work.

Fun game but all the locations outside of the school were kind of dull, and a lot of the side content was repetitive and boring.

Huge world with loads to do in it you can't really go wrong!

@Bramble I had fun with the game but I remember feeling underwhelmed slightly in the open world even at Hogsmeade.

Hogwarts castle was truly magical with everything you could interact with and all these secrets within it.

It's been years since I played it but I remember Hogsmeade being great from a visual standpoint but feeling any secrets and interacting with anything in the village was a bit lacklustre. And just the open highlands I didnt think held anything too special.

I agree some map reworking would be nice. I would like it more dense and packed with secrets.

I loved this game and kind wish the castle itself was able to be explored more as well as more Hogsmeade. I might pick the game up again to play as it was fun. Also, for the love of god, I hope they do not make into a live-service game as it will be a disaster.

I never did finish the game, it was my introduction to Harry Potter. Having still not seen the movies, read the books, it was really welcoming and did a really good job at introducing the player to the world. I even remember where I stopped playing in the game, a puzzle with bells, then I had to go somewhere and completely forgot about my playthrough. I'd probably have to play it from the start if I were to return. Hopefully before the second one releases.

It's a little depressing that we're getting information like this from shareholders' reports, and not an official announcment from the devs or Sony themselves. Ah well, "For the Shareholders" and all that...

The game was good fun. They did a good job with wand combat, and the realisation of Hogwarts was excellent. Like others, I'd like to see more school-sim elements, a la Bully, rather than just a few perfunctory lessons at the start of the story to teach your character the spells you'd need, and then having you effectively play truant for the rest of the game. They could even put in a mechanic with the time twister thing that Hermione uses in the books where you have to manage your school life against progressing the quests by going back in time.

Hogwarts Legacy: The Legacy

I got a feeling they are going to seriously mess up Hogwarts legacy 2 with live service and micro transactions and maybe even A.i🤑🤑🤑🤖👀

They definitely need to give you the ability to be fully evil. Sure you can learn the unforgivable curses in Hogwarts Legacy, but they don’t let you be fully evil in that game😒

I think Hogwarts Legacy was brutally overrated. The school was great though everything outside of that was dull. None of the characters were interesting, the house you chose barely mattered, I don’t remember the story at all. If you take the Harry Potter out of it it would just be seen as another mediocre by the numbers open world game. That said there’s so much you can do in this universe so I’m hoping the sequel is much better.

That’s great news! There was a lot I dug about the first, but I haaaaated the loot system. Very much hoping they change that.

It was a solid first entry but there's so much to improve on. I hope they have a better story and more relatable characters for the sequel, should have more of a Persona DNA where you actually care about your friends and not make them annoying or dull.

Haven’t gotten around to playing this yet, but seen the films, read the books to my daughter when she was younger too.

All in all seems like a good franchise to work with for games. I might get around to it once the second game released at this rate!

I kinda wish it would take place in another wizarding school like Mahoutokoro or Beauxbatons, but another Hogwarts setting is fine either way

I’ll be interested to see how a sequel does. As a non Harry Potter fan, I thought the game was fine. I will agree with most the open world was pretty bland and the combat was repetitive, but was still satisfying. I don’t even remember the story and the characters were all pretty forgettable. It looked amazing though.

hogwarts legacy made 1.3 billion in revenue.. a sequel will surpass that maybe even double that..

I'm not a Potter fan but I really enjoyed this game. I'd like more of the same but fill the world with more things,dungeons,side quests that actually have a purpose. I really need to revisit this on the ps5 Pro because I believe its a much better looking game. Bring on the sequel..

My (equal) favourite game of this generation. I hope they do the sequel justice, and don't take on board some of the absurd changes I have seen people suggest over the years.

From someone who is very Pro-inclusion, I would happily recommend Hogwarts Legacy.
In this case, my opinion is that the content of the game overrides anything behind the scenes.

The devs have included one of the best (if not the best) examples of a trans character I can remember in video games. They go very heavy with backstory for this character, and making them feel a loved part of the local community.
Sirona Ryan is by far not the only example of inclusion in this game either.
The devs manage to do all this without resorting to labels everywhere, and are generally very subtle about how they do things. It is very refreshing to see the methods they have used in the most part.
Is it perfect, no - but I want to see more positive inclusion of the type seen in this game.

If you understand the lore, there are also a few cases where, to me at least it feels like the devs have done other things to intentionally annoy the author.

Your character can basically be a hero, yet still use the 3 unforgivable curses.
You can easily argue that Harry used both Crucio and Imperio in the books, but Avada Kedavra was the signature spell of Voldemort.
I suppose it could be argued that there is at least 1 non-evil specific use of AK in the books (Snape using it on Dumbledore).

My second example is that Expelliarmus is made out to be the ultimate hero spell throughout the books, particularly during an argument after Harry leaves the Dursleys for the last time. It is Harry's signature spell.
Yet in the game, your character has the choice to turn this spell that "does no harm" into a damaging curse lol - one that marks the enemy for a chained Avada Kedavra.

I replayed the game a while back on Pro (before PSSR2) and they had made some excellent adjustments for the Pro. I will say that most of these are centered around the standard performance mode (not HFR), and this mode shines if you have a 120hz VRR TV (which if memory serves you do).

I had a quick look (about an hour) after PSSR2 was released, and it does an excellent job here of improving the Image quality - something that wasn't bad in the first place. Spell and other effects pop more too now.

@Rich33 i fully respect the devs for including representation and i've heard it's a wellmade game, my main problem with the game is that it's still giving money to rowling, for her to turn around and use it to harm people.

I really enjoyed it, and thought it was a remarkably well made game.

A couple of mild suggestions:

• I highly recommend the standard performance mode (uncapped 120hz VRR if you have it), particularly on Pro.
• I would play it at the highest difficulty you are comfortable with - the combat is excellent and very deep once you get the hang of it, but the game can be a bit easy in places. (Think of the combat as being almost a melee based system, played out at range.) There are places you just aren't meant to go / things you aren't meant to do early on!
• Trying not to give too many spoilers - Don't miss the 3 main curses (Crucio, Imperio, Avada Kedavra) obtained in Sebastian's companion quest line, and max out the curse skills.

Fair enough, and I do understand. I just think that if you looked into the entire chain of who benefits from everything you spend, you may find a lot of similar examples.
I do not agree with things she has said/done, but I do approve of the way the devs have done things here - and it doesn't feel like forced inclusion, due to backlash - it feels genuine.

I did play the first for a bit when it was given out for free. Being a Trans woman who grew up heavily into the Wizarding World the game was like a dream come true in some respects. But thanks to the fact that Mouldemort is still going to get money from this I just can't be excited for a sequel. I really wish Warner had bought the license from her at one point.

@GirlVersusGame same thing happened to me with Persona 5 Royal. I was almost at the last palace but left the game due to no particular issue and now it has been like 5-5 years, I should restart it.

I really love the combat in the first game. It feels kind of basic and rough until you learn enough spells to just chain and combo off spells that work really well together. It makes me feel like a badass pulling in targets, slamming them down, and blowing them up all in one seamless motion and hearing my character word off each spell is so so satisfying 😮‍💨 if they can somehow make it even more fluid I’d be impressed.

My only complaint is cut down on all the busy work. Most of the side content being fetch quests and dozens to hundreds of collectible's like a Ubisoft game turned me off from the game initially. Focusing on the main quests and assignments instead of going for completion improved the game for me. For those that are Harry Potter fans it’s a great game to delve into

@Krlozgod That game I did finish, it was some time last-year. I was quickly hooked. It was my first Jrpg and I had no expectations going in, like Hogwarts. I couldn't stop playing Persona 5, between the dungeons and school, it was just brilliant. I think part of it was never having experienced school/classes in a game before and it healed something. I was home schooled in real life so the game offered something I'd never experienced before, I wanted to go to class/mix with students, all of those things. The dungeons and battles were great too but all of those mundane activities, they kept me playing even more. It was a very human game, really special.

I missed out on Harry Potter as a whole because I found actual Witchcraft first. Organized religion called me a Witch, so I embraced the accusation and found that yes it fit. I then bounced between Wicca, Santeria, Vodou (and many others people will have never heard of before) so by the time I did find out about Harry Potter it felt so timid and safe in comparison. And fun fact Potter is a Magikal name, a potter uses earth/air/wind/fire in their trade. The Harry Potter universe from what I've seen blends Witchcraft and Magik, but there's a big difference between the two. The former is more about ritual and reverence, the latter is very transactional. A kind of 'I'll do this, and in return you give me that'. Especially higher level, deal with the Devil/curses and such.

I still study and I have only four books to go before my collection hits five-hundred. I don't practice anymore. Spells like games can become addictive, there was no moderation, I had to quit outright. That's the only real danger of Witchcraft, it becomes all consuming, with Magik that pull is amplified and things get very real very fast. The game made it feel like a hobby, it's a way of life. I've read and studied everything from, white Magik/black, spells, curses, African/Brazilian/Mexican. We do take Witchcraft very seriously in Eastern Europe, it's generational for some people, by age twelve I was learning to read palms/etc. All of the Witches I met in England were more about running around in the woods and doing their thing under the moonlight. I'm not saying don't knock it before you try it, if it works for them it works for them.

Do you or someone else mind explaining why there are comments about boycotting the game? either something got lost in translation or I missed something, possibly a little of both. I'm very out of the loop on the franchise and not always sure what people are talking about when there are snippets of what appears to be outrage. This topic is definitely not an exception.

@GirlVersusGame because the author of Harry Potter doesn’t not consider transexual women real women and some of the commenters here don’t agree with her views. So even tough she is not involved directly with the development of the games some people don’t want to support the game because she receives money due to royalties from the sales of the game.

@Krlozgod I think part of the problem is that she spends million funding anything that is against trans women, instead of focusing on any number of serious issues women have.

Bought the first one a while back, but never got around properly playing it (I think I managed to complete the intro or something). Maybe when the new HBO launches I'll give it another go. But it was really fun.

@Krlozgod Okay thank you, LGBT issues/etc are labelled as extremist now in my country. People go to jail for educating others about it. I didn't know what a trans-person was until I joined this site/community, the same for equality, I'd never heard of it.

I believe in live and let live. Even if I don't fully understand something it's their life not mine, therefore it's none of my business. As long as someone is happy, that's all that matters. My understanding is that a person's mind is their own, if their body doesn't match and they take steps to fix that? then more power to them. Harry Potter was almost banned in Russia, there was a case/investigation and it was found to not morally corrupt young people, so it was never banned. The people I know who did read those books said it helped them to come to terms with their own sexuality/etc, to fit in. I can't see how that was a bad thing, but people can be, and it sounds like the author is.

That's what happens when a country outlaws all things LGBT, I had to ask a hacker friend, there was no one to ask offline and other than this site I hardly use the surface web. That conversation was this month. I think children deserve to learn about those differences, to be educated in acceptance not hate or they'll go through life confused and like me have to use subversion to find those answers. I don't see how ignorance can be positive. Some people might want to live in a world like that, others get no choice.

Edit: Reading back on that night it was Palworld that made me ask those questions. I kept getting two female Pals and couldn't breed them, there is a surgery in the game, I used the wrong term when asking my friend to Google something for me (that's banned too) and she corrected me with the proper term, explained how gender was 'perma' that people don't choose it, she then spent well over an hour going into all of the details and emailed me a document that explained all of the rest. I'm lucky to have people like that in my life. They shine some real light, and educate.
