… I only look at the trophy list after the first play through, which is sometimes good sometimes bad as it can mean having to do a whole other play through especially on linear games. It means you can just enjoy the game for what it is first and for most and then decide if it’s worth going back for the trophies.
So to avoid that but in the interest of ‘keeping the magic alive’ I just look at the opening ‘summary’ section of trophy guides. It doesn’t spoil or ‘show you how’… it just points out if anything is missable etc. ie this one is one I just opened for Assassins Creed 2:
Overview:
Estimated trophy difficulty: 4/10 (Estimated Difficulty)
Offline trophies: 51 (34, 15, 1, 1)
Online trophies: 0
Approximate amount of time to platinum: 25-35 hours (Estimated Time)
Minimum number of playthroughs: 1
Number of missable trophies: Fly Swatter unless you've bought the Downloadable Content "The Battle of Forli." If you buy this extra mission you can use the Flying machine whenever you want after the sequence.
Glitched trophies: 0
Does difficulty affect trophies?: No difficulty
Do trophies stack?: PS3 and PS4 have separate trophy lists
Do cheat codes disable trophies?: No cheat codes
@colonelkilgore That’s an excellent way of dealing with that dilemma, I’ll take that onboard as it would have saved me a lot of effort with some games.
I’ve just wrapped up the platinum on GotG which took me ages as I had to do a NG+ in order to wrap up the Lore Hoarder trophy. I thought I’d been reasonably thorough so didn’t think anything of it so it was quite annoying to see I’d missed quite so much.
@render congrats on your new shiney… they did hide some of those collectibles very well in fairness… and the chapter select was close to being useless in terms of trophy hunting!
Congrats everyone on all these plats ! I remember Rayman Legends and its infamous daily grinding. 😅
318 Grand Theft Auto III - The game that created the genre ! It was nice playing it again but everything feels so basic now. Easy platinum except for a few Rampages and Vigilante missions. This is a poor remaster though, lazy Rockstar.
An interesting question that occurred to me just now: do you consider trophies to be an "extra" of sorts or a major part of the experience? Like, if a game has a truly wretched trophy list, would that be cause to rate it lower than if it had less aggravating trophies?
It’s a fair question and if I think about my own inner prejudice, I have to admit the trophy list does have a minor effect on my overall ranking of a game. I think it is an equalizer for the mass of games that live in the middle between “masterpiece” and “dreadful”. For average and middling games I honestly have to say I get more enjoyment, and therefore more highly rank, a game with a good trophy list.
However, I’ll take The Last of Us as an example. It’s in my top 20 games of all time, most likely, and I hated the trophy list and still only have 19% of the trophies. Shadow of the Colossus is another example. The ridiculous trophies don’t bring the game down from my adoration of what I consider to be one of my favorite games of all time.
The Resident Evil games are others that I still have low trophy percentages that I can’t be bothered to chase, but still would rate the games themselves very highly.
The opposite side of things is true too, where I enjoy a trophy list but don’t think much of the game itself. Undertale comes to mind. Brilliant trophies, but not enough to save the game.
But for the vast majority of games an enjoyable jaunt through the meta-game of trophy hunting can really elevate an experience for me.

And to mark my transition into the current gen.. #101 Astros Playroom (PS5)
Joyous is the best word I have to describe my short experience with this. It made me happy. Oh an I especially like the activity clip things that show you video clips of where missed collectables are - I hope more games utilise this feature.
Also what did they do to the picture/image of the plats on the new look trophy list?? Stupid cartoony oversized jenk. I am displeased!

@Sorteddan Nice, that’s a cracking choice for a first platinum on PS5. It’s still pretty much the benchmark for the controller features too and is just really fun to play. My kids still love it so gives me a reason to boot it back up again.
You might want to think about tinkering with settings for auto screenshots/vids for trophies as they quickly take up space.
Activity cards are relatively well used on games I’ve played. Playing Kena I reflexively started to google for some help on a bit until I remembered about the cards.
@Thrillho Good tip. Thank you. It's something I did on PS4 and should get around to ASAP on new machine, it's not as if I ever get the urge to go back and look at a screenshot of that time I achieved whatever trophy.

@colonelkilgore thanks. I'll be working a bit more on my backlog this year and hopefully clear 10 or 12 games from it. Started up inFamous: Second Son again today so that should be my first plat of the year.
@WCB Nice. I’ve still got the last few trophies to do on Rift Apart which I was going to do with the kids. They don’t seem too bothered with it now so I might go and tidy those up myself to make it my first plat of the new year too.
@Th3solution@Kidfried congratulations to you both. I really do think I need to play Death's Door one day. The hype seems to be real with that one. And I'm pretty sure I have Rime and will get to it eventually.

@Kidfried awesome info there cheers... and if I enjoy it as much as I imagine, I can always do a second playthrough on PS4 (& a second plat into the bargain).
