@colonelkilgore I always use Platprices website to look at the price history. It has been down to £15 which isn't bad but it is quite short and doesn't have replay value once completed, plus I have to imagine that it will be cheaper soon as it has just entered PS+ Extra, or it may even become an Essential game which is probably likely given Sonys previous form.
I got the Platinum in Like A Dragon: Ishin! and it took me 140 hours.
I don't know how many of you have gotten the Platinum in a Yakuza game or if you've ever considered it but I gotta tell you they're serious business. They've all got their little quirks and foibles. Some have authentically quite difficult parts, others have fiddly parts, or a billion mini-games. This one has an enormous grind attached to it and a whole lotta RNG.
The 140 hours is probably more like 150 or 160 because the clock doesn't account for reloading saves, and I would imagine it took me no more than 60 hours to beat the game, do the combat challenges, and finish all the side content. The remaining time is all dedicated to crafting every weapon in the game and the only way to do that is by collecting a load of random drops in dungeons.
That said, I didn't mind it. I've liked other Yakuza Platinums less than this. The grind is easy, so you can just pop some music on or a podcast or whatever and just smash people up. At least there's nothing difficult in this one to act as a wall.
@johncalmc congrats on the Yakuza platinum! The only one I have is LAD (7) which supposedly is the easiest one. But they all seem to be tough with a big grind.
For me, I just finished Elden Ring and all the trophy endings. Such a phenomenal game. Now I have to figure out what to play next haha
@CWill97 congrats buddy… and you’re right, it’s a tall order to find the right game to play after something of that quality and epic nature. I’d suggest a palette-cleanser… a little indie of a genre you never normally play that has generally good reviews. It would probably freshen you up for the next big AAA game of your choice.
@johncalmc I literally have no idea how anyone gets the plat on most of the Yakuza games so I doff my cap at anyone who does/can.
@CWill97 Yakuza 6 was also very do-able as once you completed the game you could reload right before the final fight, bump up the difficulty and get the legendary play through that way. The clan creator trophies were VERY grindy too though.
@colonelkilgore thank you! I’m giving Stray a try because of your advice. I’m hoping it’ll be a nice, relaxing game for the most part. Gotta say though: the “Can’t Cat-ch Me” trophy was not fun to get haha. But nonetheless, going to keep going after earning that gold trophy.
@johncalmc I learnt the basics in Judgment as you had to play to get one of the friends (and also hope the weird rule they introduce comes up on a hand you win).
Was it just 100% completion or did it need a legend play through as well?
Finished Stray last night. Did one chapter then speedrunned it, etc. It made it easier because I remembered where everything was. Fun game but a tad bit overhyped
@johncalmc Good show on the plat. I've always struggled to get into the Yakuza games, I find the stories interesting but the fighting system doesn't grip me so I hope that Like a dragon with the turn based might correct that although I'm still not going to learn Mahjong....or am I? 🤔
PS. Now if Yakuza had the Sleeping Dogs combat I might be more into the fighting....seriously Sleeping Dogs > GTA, why haven't we got Sleeping Dogs 2 and it can't be that the pork bun jokes are all done.
@sorteddan I actually found Fallen Order a little overrated myself. Definitely not a bad game but I expected more for sure… I’m hoping the sequel will be more what I was expecting.
@RogerRoger
Yeah all the extra requirements were pretty achievable. I especially appreciated the way each area on a planet had separate collectable counters making it easier to narrow the search focus on guides. Could have done with a fast travel though in my opinion.
And as someone who watched Gotham a few years back I had difficulty not seeing Cal as a young joker during cutscenes.
Very much agree with @colonelkilgore it wasn't bad but I somehow expected something more epic whereas I found it to be bang average. Has made me think I should rewatch all the films at some point though. Apart from the original trilogy I've only ever seen the others maybe once, is it worth seeing in chronological story order?
@CWill97
Good stuff on your Stray shiny. I felt pretty much the same as you and I played it at the time of the release hype.
“We are what we pretend to be, so we must be careful about what we pretend to be.”
@CaptD Don't worry, no Mahjong required for the Like a Dragon platinum! And no second play through needed either (just a lot of grinding to beat the last dungeon).
@sorteddan I missed your comment about the Star Wars films and I’m currently doing a chronological (re)watch of the films and live action series from the beginning.
There’s a good reason I hadn’t rewatched episodes 1-3 before as they are… not good. E3 has more action scenes at least.
Finished The Quarry trophies last night. Man, the extra playthroughs were such a slog. If I didn’t pop on some sports in the background, I don’t think I would’ve completed it. I feel like Until Dawn was the better game but The Quarry wasn’t bad- if you only do 1 run.
Now, I’m chipping away at FFX platinum. I’ve beat the main game for awhile now. Next up is finishing the sphere grids. I’m grinding for fortune spheres. So, I’m putting on another show/game and chilling. I’ll probably put it down during March Madness this Thursday
