As far as I'm concerned this makes the Portal it way more valuable. Now, as long as you're a Premium member, you can actually take your Portal away with you and play a ton of games without having to worry about your connection to your PS5. Only decent wifi should be needed.
I used to love this feature when PS Now was on the Vita. It worked really well for me too.
Those are not lifetime sales figures for Ratchet and Returnal. Ratchet sold 1.1 million by July 2021. That's in its first month. It will have likely far surpassed this number as PS5 adoption grew and since it was released on PC.
The Returnal sales figure mentioned is also from that same month. Both are almost three and a half years old.
Actions speak louder than words. If Sony wants to demonstrate that now is the best time to buy a PS5, they have to show off an impressive slate of upcoming software.
I don't entirely mind the more peace-meal approach they've taken to announcing their games, but it doesn't scream 'Big things around the corner' in the same way their large, announcement-stuffed showcases of the PS4 era did.
I'll be playing Resident Evil 2 remake (first time, half way through) and I might dip into Ghost ot Tsushima's Iki Island expansion (I platinumed the game in 2021 and have an opportunity to do the dlc before my PS+ Extra expires in November).
It sucks, but If it didn't sell it needs to go. Ubisoft are in a difficult position at the moment. They need to cut the fat and focus on their big sellers. It's the reality of business.
I really want to be excited about Amy Hennig's upcoming Cap X Black Panther game (She's my favourite game director), but I'm so fatigued on Marvel I couldn't even bring myself to choose it in my top three.
Death Stranding 2 is an easy no.1. It looks fascinating for all the reasons that aforementioned game looks boring.
And, in fear of sounding very basic, I think Ghost of Yotei and GTA VI have to round out my picks. They're guaranteed good times.
EDIT: Scratch GTA VI. I just spotted Mafia: The Old Country, which will likely be a lesser game, but has what I find to be a far more interesting setting. I'm also just excited to see how they can step up the Mafia formula - they've had a while to cook (and those Mafia games just have a mood).
I can't help but wonder if the overwhelmingly positive reaction to Elca Gaming's open-world Avatar fan game (made in Media Molecule's Dreams) might have had an impact on this decision.
For a time their's was the poster-child for Dreams projects and his youtube update videos have amassed over 20 million views (with the most popular video getting over 6 million). It's seriously impressive stuff and featured open world exploration and tons of mechanics from the show that are implemented very well.
Hopefully this game will be what fans have always wanted, but I hope it doesn't overshadow EG's massive accomplishment, and hopefully we'll get the release of both projects before too long.
@Savage_Joe This isn't an ending from a 9 year old game, it's a new ending from a remake of that game, which we wouldn't otherwise know before having played it.
It's like if Konami said before PT released "You'll wanna see this through for the secret twist ending that might hint at the future of a beloved franchise". It would have killed the enormous impact that game/reveal had.
Considering the enormous hiatus since her last piece of work (Uncharted 3), it's really cool we'll all get a chance to experience (or re-experience) two of Amy Hennig's early classics.
I really hope Sony don't kill this game and are instead willing to give it a second chance at life, even if that's under a different name or with a reskin. Despite being an initial naysayer (I still hold that the writing, character and world design were painfully derivative and the scope of the game was too small for the asking price) what I played was was really fun and the game was super polished. This story is a worrying sign though.
There should really be a poll option for "No, the game runs well enough already". Or just give us simpler 'yes' or 'no' options and leave the reasoning to the comments section.
I don't care how much y'all rag on Secret Agent Clank, I have a fondness for inferior handheld spinoffs classic franchises. I'm bee-lining for that plat.
Utterly bizarre thing to say. They have the biggest selection of dormant IP of any of the big three - many of which have large swathes of long time fans regularly hounding them for new entries.
This is the kind of out of touch take I'd have expected from Jim. At least Herman, who's in charge of PS Studios, probably (hopefully) doesn't share this view.
It's like if you took the gameplay loop and structure of Sony's most beloved live service game (Helldivers 2) and combined it with the visual style and cinematic nature of Sony's least beloved live service game (Concord).
Oh this can't come soon enough. An open world crime game set in early twentieth-century Sicily is a dream come true. I've long lamented the lack of Euro-GTA-esque games, and this is a prime setting for one. Probably the best way this franchise could have made a comeback.
@ChrisDeku Good catch, yes it did and I had completely forgotten. At least with that I felt it might have been partially out of their hands, what with Disney/Marvel owning the IP and a stake in the sales of the game. With Horizon, Sony don't have to worry about any other company's financial interests.
I really don't like the de-listing of HFW. HZD at least seemed like it could make sense due to the remaster rumours, and it didn't hurt so much seeing as a) It's old now and cheap as chips and b) It had already been given to PS+ base members, but this would set a different precedent that could seriously devalue PS+ Premium.
My optimistic hope is that this is happening because they're replacing it with the complete edition (inc. Burning Shores), and are just going to announce that close to the date next month. Fingers crossed.
@Shepherd_Tallon Ahhh, the spirit collecting gets a bit tedious. You really will want to unlock the top level grapple ability and max out the flight skill too. If I remember correctly, you get an ability in the post game which guides you to uncollected spirits, so while it's not hard, it is very time consuming (and eventually boring). Plus, there are spirits you can only get from the Demon Parade, so make sure to do it every time it pops up to get a head start.
There's also a trophy, I think, for completing the game with all spirits or something, so you may need to redo the final chapter if you haven't done that before the finale (though you do have some leeway as I think only the count hasn't been changed since the update which introduced more spirits, so you don't quite need all).
So yeah, it's very time consuming and repetitive - and not in a fun Far Cry platinum type way. My advice, get some fun podcasts lined up to listen to while you play.
I really think you need to work on your poll options.
"Yes, I pre-ordered as fast as I could" and "Yeah, I snagged one" are basically the same answer, while the other three are versions of "no" with little variation.
Meanwhile, there isn't a single option for those who would say "no, I wanted one but missed it", which ironically is exactly who this article seems targeted towards.
I only say this because I've noticed this issue on several Push Square polls before. Realistically, you only need three options:
The more worrying sign is that Sony won't even port their own PSVR1 games. We know they've likely not made the effort with Alyx if they won't even port Blood & Truth or Astrobot Rescue Mission, and it doesn't inspire buyer confidence.
Regarding some of the above comments: It's so unfortunate that, like with others here, everything Harry Potter leaves this nasty taste in my mouth now that JKR has become a militant culture warrior squarely fixated on making already marginalised people's lives as difficult as possible and libelling them as insidious misogynists.
Not that I feel like I'm missing out hugely - I've largely outgrown the likes of Star Wars, HP and other film franchises I adored as a child, and there are far better games and films to play and watch today anyway. But while I was happy to skip the fine but average looking Hogwarts Legacy and use that time to play God of War or The Witcher 3, curiosities like this do oddly grab my attention from time to time, and the PS2 factor that NEStalgia mentioned is specifically what's drawing me with to this.
One of my PSP faves and my first ever Ratchet. I will definitely be trophy hunting this one. Just wrapping up the platinum for Ratchet 3 too. Perfect timing.
@Dragoon1994 They've only just got the PS2 emulation going so they likely have a much more streamlined process for the PSP games, so it would probably be a case of artificially delaying Size matters to have them come out in sequential order, which would be silly - especially given that Size Matters is more of a spin-off/side game.
They also have a lot less 1st/2nd party PSP games left to release and they're trying to get new ones out every month. Ratchet is a clear crowd pleaser.
@get2sammyb Yeah, I'm honestly very pleased with this month. Looking forward to Jeanne d'Arc, Ratchet and Bannerlord. I just hope Ratchet has right analogue control as well, that would be a huge bonus.
@themightyant It's not, this is a new emulation coming to premium. This is it's announcement - it's coming to premium on day 1 like Sony's other recent PSP emulated re-releases.
I honestly think this is a better choice. Having spent hundreds of hours in Inquisition, I felt it was odd to subtitle the sequel as one of the many party members in the third game - even if they would play a major role in this game. 'Veilguard' also just fits better with the naming convention established in Inquisition. Veilguard coming for yo ass.
Day one play for me. I was getting tired of waiting for Rewind and laughed in horror when I saw the build for the now-cancelled game from Embracer, so I'm very happy we may finally be getting TimeSplitters again - even if it is just an emulation.
@kailun From what I've read online - it doesn't unfortunately. Only Daxter and Ghosthunter do. That being said, they may get added in the future - it happened for Toy Story later down the line and that was also an emulated Disney game.
EDIT: This from a Push Square article published this morning:
"While some third-party titles have been adding Trophies recently, it looks like there’ll be no gongs for LEGO Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy, the third retro game scheduled to be added as part of PS Plus Premium’s big June update, available today."
@ItsAlwaysSunnyyy The quantity is poor, but I think the quality games on offer this month is actually very solid. I think the unfortunate reality is that we're going to be very limited in terms 'big name' titles we all grew up with as we're living in the age of re-releases and developers have their own, more profitable plans for much of their old library.
That being said, while you may not have heard of Daxter or Ghosthunter, they are gems from Sony's own library and worth a look at if you're interested in the history of Playstation.
I actually want to see these kinds of games on the service more than the big headline first party titles like Sly and God of War, the reason being that those major series received high quality remasters on PS3 which I'd much rather see ported. It would cost more on Sony's end, but I think they deserve them and could turn a profit if priced correctly. For instance, I would love a God of War I, II, COO, GOS collection rather than straight emulations of the originals.
To be honest, when the rumours first hit I was hoping for and expecting a free moving camera and open world type - more akin to the recent Lego Star Wars.
I was a bit disappointed to see the couch co-op optimised fixed camera and more linear design, but the game does look great and I'm glad to hear the boss battles are chaotic and fun in practice - the thunderjaw fight in the trailer looked quite contrived to me so I was worried.
Very happy with Premium, though Extra is quite weak for headliners this month aside from Monster Hunter (I can't imagine most football manager players are on console).
I'd love to see a detailed comparison of these versions against the PS3 remasters. The remastering of Sly Cooper was excellent on PS3 and it seems from this article that it remains the definitive way to play the game. I also remember it being fairly forgiving, so probably isn't one of the titles that most needs the 'rewind' function.
Meanwhile, I have the Tomb Raider HD Trilogy unplayed on PS3 and am tempted by convenience of playing Legend on my PS5 (I have premium) but suspect the PS3 version may be technically superior (I think it's actually a 7th gen version rather than a 6th gen version as is the case here).
I'm not sure what the incentive would be other than altruism and good press, but couldn't Sony step in and help them out? It's clear the studio wants a real physical release, they're just short on resources.
@KoopaTheGamer Because words mean things until they're abused to the point of becoming meaningless.
'Director's Cut' is a phrase that has a purpose and communicates intent and content. If the phrase is overly-abused and mis-used it will become as useless as 'deluxe edition', 'gold edition', 'premium edition' 'ultimate edition' etc. etc.
Different publishers having their own inconsistent vocabulary to convey 'completeness' is frustrating (I can't be the only one who has to regularly search online for which version of X game is the best to buy), but 'Director's Cut' is valuable because it already has a universal meaning and tasteless game publishers are willing to destroy that for the sake of a tacky nonsense marketing gimmick.
I sort of loathe that Sony coined this stupid terminology for video-game re-releases (where it more often than not makes zero sense - as pointed out by Hideo Kojima regarding the 'Director's Cut' of his own game) before - rightly - abandoning it after just two titles.
What creative control was wrestled away from the director of Hogwarts Legacy? What re-arrangement of scenes and sequences will be implemented to achieve their original, un-compromised and as yet un-seen vision of the story?
If WB can answer those questions then by all means, go ahead and call it 'Director's Cut'. If it's just some extra features and missions, slap 'complete edition' on the box and be done with this pretentious nonsense.
