Re: All The Game Awards 2025 Winners

JayJ

Seems like a number of these categories are a joke. Like content creator of the year going to some popular pop culture youtuber who hardly covers games anymore? Best TV show? E-sports? Games for impact and game changer?

Whatever, at least they gave the main award to a game that deserves it for once.

Re: After a Rocky Launch, the Entire Team Behind PS5 Racer Wreckreation Might Be Laid Off

JayJ

@StitchJones Yeah I agree new AAA game development has slowed down to such a crawl I don't even bother anticipating games until they are almost out. I think AAA has been in this big massive budget massive production era and it's become unsustainable, they're just spending too much time and money on these games and it makes it so they only go with the safest bets and don't do anything more niche.

Re: Mini Review: Old School Rally (PS5) - Don't Cut This Retro Rally Throwback

JayJ

I was never a fan of this one and I love rally racers and racing games in general. I think Rush Rally 3 is the better game by far when it comes to this unofficial indie rally racer direction. I guess it's got that PS1 look if you're into that, seems to be it's main gimmick, but I would rather just play actual PS1 games.

Re: SEGA Actually Admits Persona 5 Royal-Style Re-Releases May Result in Stunted Game Sales

JayJ

Royal should have been an update or DLC expansion/overhaul. I mean Street Fighter 4 managed to do this back in the 360 era, I remember only needing to download a DLC to turn my Super Street Fighter 4 Arcade Edition into Ultra Street Fighter 4.

What they did with Persona 5 is the type of thing they had to do in the PS2 era, back before we had DLC and the ability to update games. It makes absolutely no sense to continue doing things that way.

Re: 'We All Want Skate to Be Great': Skate Dev Pledges Improvements After Early Access Launch Issues

JayJ

This is definitely one of those online open world games where the online feels very forced and unnecessary but they force it anyways just to make it a total live services game. By making it live services it also feels just so soulless and passionless. I would so much rather just have an offline experience with real pros and some actual progression like the first 3 titles.

In this it's like you never feel like you're making any actual progression because all the missions and goals just rotate and refresh all the time, so you just wind up doing the same things over and over again. Seems obvious how the whole game seems to revolve around grinding away for virtual funny money to spend on loot boxes and cosmetics. Thing is after getting some basic decent gear for my skater, it feels like I no longer have anything to play towards unless I still want to play skater dress-up.

Re: Gran Turismo 7 Gets First Paid DLC in the Power Pack, Out 4th December

JayJ

Looking forward to finally being able to do qualifying and standing starts. Love GT but that back of the pack rolling start catch up to the leader thing they have always done always felt like the most dated and limiting factor to it as far as serious racing sims go.

24 hour endurance sounds crazy, I know the formula for these endurance races in the past was to put some hours in, pause and take a break, repeat until finished. Still, doubt I will ever have the dedication for that, that's for the truly hardcore sim fans.

Re: PS5 Is Getting an Official 27" Monitor with DualSense Charging Functionality

JayJ

@jvecc Yeah never really saw the appeal of gaming like that. It works for PC gaming, like when playing the sort of games that I play with a mouse and keyboard, but for everything else I greatly prefer gaming on a TV with a controller. Even some genres like FPS that work great with a KB mouse I prefer on console simply because it's so much more relaxed to play them on a big screen sitting back in a couch/chair with a controller.

Re: All PS5 Games with Power Saver Support

JayJ

This seems like one of the most pointless features imaginable. I could see the benefit for this sort of thing on a handheld, lower power would mean better battery life which can be very important, but on a home console, I didn't buy a PS5 Pro to limit the power it uses just to save a miniscule amount of money on my power bill.

If that was really such a big deal to me I would probably just use a different device, like sticking to a Switch 2 in dock mode. Home consoles are already very power efficient compared to gaming PC's, and in a world where we have massive bitcoin farms and AI sucking down more power than most cities, I can't feel guilty about how much power my game console uses.

Re: 'Man, This Is a Terrible Idea': Original Saints Row Director Slams the Reboot, Says He Could Revive the Series

JayJ

The problem with the SR reboot was simple, they simply played it too safe and got too politically correct with a franchise that used to proudly be as edgy and over the top as possible. It's like they went with some over the top action still, but the humor was always what made it work and that was sorely absent in this reboot. Like someone desperately trying to make jokes that just never land and make everyone roll their eyes.

Re: Talking Point: PS6 In 2027 - How Do You Feel About Sony's Next-Gen Console?

JayJ

I am really to call it quits with home consoles after this generation. My next gen plan is building a gaming PC and saying goodbye to these console ecosystems and their online subscription requirements. This is coming far too soon, games that will actually take advantage of any benefits will take far too long to release, and I have far too much backlog as it is.
