The title is misleading if you don't understand the language it's coming from. He's not saying "aww, look how CUTE my sister is!!"... it's an incredulous statement. She appears cute and innocent to other people, but he knows better because she is a pervert and kind of a brat.
Jesus people. Oreimo is not about incest.
Oreimo is NOT about incest.
OREIMO IS NOT ABOUT INCEST!!!!!!!!!
Did that get through your heads? Okay good.
And if THAT isn't what you were calling stupid/perverse/etc about it, then what? A girl playing dating sims and being an otaku despite a normal outward-appearance? Is that the part that's bothering you??
Yes, HOW UNUSUAL THAT WOULD BE. THERE'S NO SUCH THING AS GIRLS LIKE THAT. Nope. Nowhere.
cough Sarcasm aside... It's a fun (somewhat relatable! if you are/know someone like the main characters) comedy anime series, and this article was written to be VERY "leading," causing people to believe it's pornographic/dirty in nature without knowing a lick about the franchise besides the title. It's a well-established franchise with abundant information online that would have taken all of 2 minutes to research and see what genre it was before wirting something misleading. I am disappoint.
@get2sammyb True. Maybe what it comes down to then in the end is a fear of straying from "sure things" (though I'm pretty sure again that lots of gamers into those series would prefer it on home console) keeping them from making any real waves in the market. I would think the holidays would actually be the perfect time for trying to expose some of the more family-friendly, bright & different-looking games though, since a lot of people are shopping for young family members. Too bad that they don't seem to see it that way.
@get2sammyb Yeah, I know it has a few good'uns! I just want to see more, and I guess what I really want is to see it marketed as such? I think it will help it immensely. Most of the marketing I've seen for the Vita thus far have all been of the typical-console-fare type games. I think they need to go a bit outside the box.
Ports of old popular RPGs always do quite well on portables, and Persona is extremely popular so that's not too surprising to me! XD I've yet to check out a Persona game but it's certainly not from lack of want; I've heard great things.
A shame. It's a nice little system with I think good potential, but they're going about it all wrong. They need to shift the focus from graphics-heavy, meant-for-console games that look and play better on an HD TV, to quirky "Japanese" titles, platformers and puzzle type stuff that not only take full advantage of the 2-sided touch functionality, but are fun to want to keep on hands all the time so people can pick up and play on the fly in-between train/bus stops, waiting rooms, etc. I hope people will soon remember that the point of a portable console is for it to be portable!
This sounds like a really fair review. Redoing a frustrating level over and over again isn't fun, and winds up feeling like a waste of time. I'll still give it a shot because the graphics are beautiful, and it sounds like the other modes are worth playing! When you have to do a level over and over again because you're learning the rhythm and timing and getting a little further every time is really rewarding, and I love those kinds of things! Like the treasure chase levels in Rayman Origins, which were the literal pinnacle of that style of play, that we hadn't seen since the retro era. It sounds to me like the similar levels in Derrick will definitely be worth playing, so I'll try to force through some of the more frustrating parts just to get to those. Perhaps if a sequel is made they can take into consideration which modes people enjoyed, and which they didn't!
Nice write-up about the games themselves! I'm surprised to not see mention of the major blunders as a result of them porting from incomplete source code, in Silent Hill 2 in particular, and just how poorly the graphics upscaled (like the wall of fog that is quite visibly a wall). I'm enjoying my run-through of it simply because I'm a huge fan of the series, but I think leaving out the many technical flaws that are present only in this port and not in the originals is a bit of an oversight for a review. :[
I am seriously loving it! The most fun I've had with a "JRPG" (in quotes since it's rather atypical) in literally years. The genre has felt stale and tedious to me for awhile gameplay-wise, and playing this has been a welcome change~
