Re: Sounds Like Saudi Arabia Will Own Almost All of EA After Buyout

@UnlimitedSevens

Just a heads up, Saudi Arabia =/= Islam.

In my opinion, Saudia Arabia is probably the worse culture/country/nation that is linked to Islam.

They follow an extremely harsh and strict interpretation of Islam, which many people outside of Saudi Arabia do not agree with.

@JustMyOpinion, thank you for that post.

Re: Sony Speaks on Bungie Acquisition Disaster, Takes an 'Impairment Loss'

N1ghtW1ng

@TurboTom

Since it was a major acquisition by Sony of a Subsidiary - Bungie - Bungie will always remain part of Sony's Consolidated Financial Statements as long as Sony owns Bungie.

Also, when an Impairment Loss like this occurs, it has to be specifically disclosed in the Financial Statements, so it would be easy for anyone reading these statements to pick up on anything related to Bungie.

Re: Sony Speaks on Bungie Acquisition Disaster, Takes an 'Impairment Loss'

N1ghtW1ng

Just to give a bit more information about Sony's Impairment Loss.

This basically means that whatever Sony can realistically sell Bungie for in the market (so-called Recoverable Amount) is lower than the value of Bungie in Sony's accounting records (so-called Book Value or Carrying Amount).

It's an international Accounting Principle (IFRS or IAS can't remember) that an Asset has to be measured at the lower of its Carrying Amount and Recoverable Amount.

Sony would have employed a team of Appraisers to check Bungie - as an Accounting Asset - for indicators for possible Impairments and to determine it's Fair Value/Recoverable Amount.

IMO, not only did Sony overpay for Bungie, on the face of it, it's been a terrible acquisition.

I really hope Marathon and a potential Destiny 3 can help Bungie get back to what they were in the past.

Re: Sony's Allowing Mortal Kombat Legacy Kollection Refunds Because the PS5, PS4 Compilation Is a 'Downright Nightmare' for Some

@get2sammyb

Let me please preface this by saying I'm not gunning for you or have an agenda regarding the Review Score.

Here's an example of a possible technical issue regarding the Mortal Kombat Legacy Kollection on PS5:

Having input delay for the offline modes seems like a major concern.

Re: Skate Season 1 Brings New Events, Challenges, More Next Week on PS5, PS4

N1ghtW1ng

I've been playing this new version of Skate, and it's decent but it pales in comparison to the Skate 2 and Skate 3.

It just seems so bland, dull and lifeless. There's just no personality to the game and the art style is definitely a downgrade compared to the two earlier titles - both of whom are more than a decade old now.

I think the best part of this new Skate was seeing the snippets of the Intro Videos from Skate 2 and Skate 3 during the Introductory Sequence.

The gameplay is solid, but it's just such a downgrade when viewed in context of the rest of the series.

Re: Poll: Are You Playing Ghost of Yotei?

N1ghtW1ng

I haven't played GoT, and I'm not going to be able to play GoY anytime soon.

I'll definitely get around to playing both games - not consecutively - in the future when I'm in a better situation compared to the present.

Re: Rumour: To Avoid Even More PS5 Price Increases, Digital Edition to Get Reduced SSD Space

@themightyant

I had a chat involving Padel (just got addicted to it) with someone that's doing their Honours at University, and this guy believed that when Demand increases, Prices go down.

It's very clear that this dude didn't complete or failed a first year Economics course.

I'm sure there's many people like him out there that won't be able to understand the underlying causes of price increases.

Re: Poll: What Are Your Thoughts on Metal Gear Solid 5, 10 Years Later?

N1ghtW1ng

Great gameplay and graphics, but the story was all over the place, lacking and criminally incomplete.

It was a bit of a disappointment for me, and it was one of the first PS4 games I played (bought the MGS V Phantom Pain Edition PS4, so I was hyped for the PS4 and the game).

Thanks for making me feel old PushSquare, can't believe it's a decade since MGS V was released...

Re: Preview: The New LEGO Batman Plays Like Arkham, Brilliantly Rebuilt in Bricks

N1ghtW1ng

I'm actually looking forward to this (never thought I would say that about any Lego game).

I just hope the combat is similar to or the same as the combat in Arkham Knight (adjusted for the Lego aesthetic of course).

I've found the Lego games to be quite easy and not really all that challenging (I know they're primarily aimed at children ).

I wonder what @Anti-Matter thinks of this title, as he's obsessed with these type of games?

@Oz_Who_Dat_Dare

I'm pretty sure I read an article a while back where Embracer purchased the license to make LotR games from the Tolkien Estate after Christopher Tolkien (JRR Tolkien's son and executor/manager/owner of the Tolkien Estate) passed away, and I seem to recall Christopher Tolkien being quite strict on selling licenses based on
the LotR IP.

I think Christopher Tolkien had the right of it though. With something like the Gollum game, it only dilutes the LotR IP and devalues the IP as a whole since it was such a shockingly bad game.

I can't speak for this title or Rings of Power as I haven't played or watched either.

So, IIRC, the Embracer Group doesn't own the IP rights to make games on the LotR IP but they've obtained the license to do so. Ownership of the LotR IP still remains with the Tolkien Estate, they're just far less strict in licensing the IP out since Christoper Tolkien's passing.

@Jammer

I don't think Christopher Tolkien would have even read through Amazon's proposal in what ended being the Rings of Power series. He would have rejected it immediately despite any amount Amazon would have offered.

Re: Sony's Marketing the Massive Improvements PS5 Pro Makes to Forza Horizon 5

N1ghtW1ng

@Jrs1

DriveClub was the first game I ever saw in-person on a PS4.

I remember playing one of the Chile Sprint Races on a demo PS4 kiosk, I was just blown away by the jump from the PS3 to the PS4.

The weather effects were phenomenal, and I don't think they've been bettered since.

I really hoped Sony would see the DriveClub IP as their answer to Microsoft's Forza Horizon series.

My only regret with DriveClub was not buying the Bikes DLC.
