Re: Hands On: PlayStation VR Continues to Impress in Epic Preview Session

Lots of talk here of motion sickness and being unimpressed with the tech behind PSVR. I would guess the people who have these concerns haven't tried it yet themselves because the second you put the headset on you forget all of that.

I've tried several of the demos and, seemingly like Sammy, continue to be more impressed with each one and I was a huge sceptic beforehand. 3D has never worked for me, either glasses powered or glasses free. Yet PSVR is perfect in terms of working and allowing me to enjoy it.

Motion sickness was also a major concern at first but again, after trying several demos I don't even think about that anymore. Early demo of RIGS I tried was a bit, woah-motion-whereami-inducing but the demo at Insomnia seemed to have got rid of that completely. In fact anyone concerned at depth of titles at launch, RIGS is a proper AAA style title that will blow a lot of people away.

Farpoint and Batman both have sections that made me feel odd but that was my own vertigo causing that and to be honest it's a testament to the immersive ability of VR that it can take me from a crowded show floor to a mountain ridge or a tiny lift platform.

This is seemingly the future and for a first stab (well, first stab this time around for PS) it's incredibly smooth and capable. Oh, and the headset itself is soooo comfortable, you really do forget you're wearing it after about 30 seconds.

@Deadcow Not that I know either way, but I would take that Reddit thread (if that is what you're referring to) with a huge dose of salt.

Any demo/preview code, that was printed onto a disc, would almost certainly not run on a standard PS4 as is being claimed. There are 3 types of PS4, the Dev unit (for Devs), the Debug unit (for staff/events/other types of closed-door uses) and then the retail unit that the purchaser almost certainly has.

All three of these have different firmware forks, so the chances of a "demo", "beta" or "dev" disc working perfectly on a retail PS4 are very very very slim.

There is some crazy hype/rumours/misinformation around so who knows what the truth is.

All I know is that the game still looks stunning and I cannot wait for it to finally come out

This is why EA are pushing FUT so much as they know they can't match the gameplay of Evo, but that FUT is a very very powerful drug and alas I can't see Evo making much of a dent on FIFA yet again.

I do not get FUT at all, why would anyone spend real money to do something you can do in the game anyway (make your own teams) it just baffles me.

Re: First Impressions: Is Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain on PS4 the Best Entry Yet?

It is a truely magical game. Hardly got far into the game so far (5%) yet I've chalked up hours and hours f just taking it all in, finding a high spot to look over a camp and just working out several routes and escape routes.

Last night I spent 75 minutes slowly luring every guard out of a biggish camp, making each one come to a portaloo, then knocking each one out and fultoning, then having a free base to run around in and blow up the comms.

Just a stunning game.

On the US PSN store you can buy a few more great logic puzzle games, including a brilliant Slitherlink title by Hudson, who did the Puzzle Series of games on DS, all of which were brilliant, all of which failed to be released over here.

The DS is still the king of puzzle titles, so many classics like Meteos, Planet Puzzle Link, PIc-Pic and the Picross titles to name a few. I think it's an issue with the stylus, it just provides a more comforting, pen-like experience that touch screens can't equal, I find the same on tablets with Candy Crush type games being the best suited to just touch controls, Picross and Slitherlink type titles still not that pen-like experience to me.

At least it worked, more than the majority of games this year.

I played this with my wife and when the girl appeared for the first time we actually screamed like little children! Best example of horror in a game I've seen so far, though I'd be concerned at how it could keep that up for a few hours.

Spot on review, had the Wii U version and found it empty compared to SSD & Geometry Wars, but due to lack of anything else on Wii U at the time I played it to death. Does look lush though and any further games in the series could be awesome, the foundations are certainly there.
