Re: Rumour: Next-Gen AMD Tech to Power Supposed Sony Handheld as Well as PS6

tameshiyaku

@Mikey856 the hardware market on PC is way more fractured than any console hardware. Having any single pc hardware selling 3m is a feat as one could get any random pc hardware. Had a steam deck, performance was alright but if I spend more time tweaking than playing it's not for me.
Psportal isn't setting the world on fire either with approx. <1m sold, but doing way better than expected considering one could get a cheap tablet a telescopic controller and voilà... a better streaming device that can generally do more minus the fancy vibration that only is noticeable in astro bot.

@Mikey856 that's a bit of a maximalist take and it's not a given that handheld games of the past ran with 60fps. Steam deck often hit a good middle ground on 40fps, but if you plan to connect it to a bigger screen, yes... things get ugly.
But with new mobile chips and ai upscaling and frame sampling newer devices are an entirely new ball game.

Yes, that's what I'm hoping for! Their newest APUs run extremely well at low wattage (wukong, 1080p ~60fps on a tdp of 15w) which means longer battery life.
Of course we're also seeing an increased shift to arm processors which are even more power efficient, but also bring compatibility issues with x86 software on which PS4 and ps5 is based on. We'll see.

Re: PS Portal Will Allow Cloud Streaming in New Beta Update

tameshiyaku

@Takoweevil not mad, just think they should finally make the game streaming option accessible and worth the premium subscription by giving all users access to it via a dedicated app and/or web browser support rather than gatekeeping it to portal buyers. The portal has the extra plus of utilising dualsense features, which is cool but not essential. Especially when considering that 3rd party remote play apps (pxplay & chiaki) offer a more reliable and better looking streaming experience than what the software on the portal provides.

Re: PS Portal Will Allow Cloud Streaming in New Beta Update

tameshiyaku

@LogicStrikesAgain there's a pc application, but it runs pretty poorly and doesn't give you access to the full library. Actually the stream library over the windows app has not been updated in ages.
It'd be better to just have access over the playstation web site instead of having to install another shoddy windows/mac program but also develop a good game streaming app for android/iOS.

Re: Do You Really Want Devs to Make Lower Budget, More Original Games for PS5?

tameshiyaku

I'd have slitterhead already if it were physical.
Lower budget or not, I won't be duped to give up any consumer rights for any game over 20€ by buying digital.
The shallow explanation that big budget titles use for this "wait and see how many fomo into buying digital before we go retail" tactic used by the like of Alan wake 2, Wukong and Baldurs Gate 3 is annoying. These are all AAA examples, but even the most obscure indies still end up in retail somewhere in the world. The only question is how much do I care to import it.

Re: Legacy of Kain Fans Will Be Feasting on PS5, PS4 These Coming Weeks

tameshiyaku

This is one of the few upsides of this generation, that Sony is regularly releasing these classic (and sometimes really obscure) games. They should make surveys for psplus members where request can be made. Then they know where to put their efforts.
They should also continuously update their emulators so they can keep up with the homebrew devs.
Finally, part of the proceeds they make should go to institutions that work on gaming preservation.

Only played soul reaver 1 on the dreamcast back in the day and really enjoyed it, so I'm glad Sony is making more games available.

Re: Valve Celebrates 20 Years of Half-Life 2 with New Documentary

tameshiyaku

One great port on PS2 and one miserable port collection on PS3, and lots of wishful thinking about a psvr2 port make this anniversary barely playstation adjacent.

But hey, considering how much I hated this weird thing called steam that was forced upon me when installing half life 2 the pc world sure has changed a lot.

Re: Awful PS3 Game Haze a Comparison for Black Ops 6 Fans Complaining About Ridiculous Character Skins

tameshiyaku

After a long cod hiatus, being very disappointed with black ops 2 I wanted to give it another shot. The campaign again can't hold a candle to the original bo. Multiplayer is the usual.

Is it just me or is the trippy/dream/nightmare mission the cardinal sin of story and level design!? It's practically to 3d games what water levels are to 2d games and I don't nearly feel as annoyed by water levels. I've been hating trippy levels since the original max Payne and I've yet to see any that don't bring the fun to a complete halt.

Re: Game Size Not as Important as It Used to Be, Says Yakuza Creator

tameshiyaku

I prefer story driven games between 8-20 hours. Occasionally a game can be long like Witcher and cyberpunk and the Yakuza games.
Though longer, the Kiryu Yakuza games had a perfect length with great pacing. Those were the Nagoshi days. The kasuga games however, while fantastic, slightly overstay their welcome imho.

Re: PS5 Pro was a '5-Year Project', In Development Before PS5's Launch

@GreatAuk https://www.theverge.com/2021/8/4/22609150/sony-playstation-5-ps5-loss-profit

The jump from ps4pro to ps5 really isn't that remarkable if you see games like Ragnarok, forbidden west and now jedi survivor.

Also, no matter how much "cheaper" a discless version becomes, it comes at the heavy price of withdrawing one's consumer rights of what one can do with his purchased game and in the long run giving companies the go-ahead to have us not owning anything in the future.

Re: PS5 Pro Could Seriously Improve the Quality of Your PS4 Games

tameshiyaku

Seriously, a patch or PC port could also scratch that itch. I guess fomo, misplaced nostalgia and fanboyisms have worn most readers here down to adhere to Sony's current strategy to milk us for every penny for a bunch of lazy rehashes of things they just sold us not too long ago... like the ps5pro

Re: PS5 Pro was a '5-Year Project', In Development Before PS5's Launch

tameshiyaku

@GreatAuk in the past all playstation generations (and most other consoles) sold at a loss, meaning Sony would loose money with each console sold, but made up with software sales. Yes, even the super expensive PS3 sold at a loss. And you know why? Because it was a meaningful generational leap. The PS4 pro was reactionary, due to the rising mainstream of uhd.
PS5 was a different strategy... we payed a pretty premium price for a device that's not a real leap from the previous generation and the platform holder already made good money without being forced to offer the greatest value to make those software sales. The ps5pro is hitting that originally advertised baseline for a super premium.

Re: PS5 Pro was a '5-Year Project', In Development Before PS5's Launch

tameshiyaku

Well of course new hardware is in planning well in advance, but this sheds an entire new light on the entire Cerny presentation when saying we "realized" how players didn't want to make the choice between performance and quality. It's clear how disingenuous this pr talk was. This wasn't reactive to consumer wishes, but rather a precalculated Achilles heel in the original system and exploitative of the consumer. I love the games, but Sony the platform holder and hardware manufacturer just stinks so bad.
