Author Profile

Liam grew up with a PlayStation controller in his hands and a love for Metal Gear Solid. Nowadays, he's found playing the latest and greatest PS5 games as well as supporting Derby County. That last detail is his downfall.

Video games have always been my main passion, and I enjoyed writing growing up so it made sense to combine the two! I love a good story in games as well as a neat, inviting hub area.

Experience

Liam began his career as a freelancer, before joining Push Square as Senior Staff Writer in 2019. Some time around 2022 he became Assistant Editor on the site.

His work takes in all kinds of coverage but sees him focusing mainly on news, reviews and guides for the site.

I enjoy creating guide campaigns the most, because I like gathering together all relevant / potential information to achieve a sense of “completionism”. By documenting this, I help other people find the items they’re looking for, or beat a difficult section of a game.

Timeline

  • 2016: Begins his career as a freelance writer
  • 2019: Joins Push Square as Senior Staff Writer
  • 2022: Becomes Assistant Editor of Push Square

Qualifications & Awards

  • University Degree in Journalism - Sheffield Hallam University (2016)

Expertise

Liam’s first console was a PlayStation 1. From there he’s owned every console released by Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo.

His favourite console of all time is the PlayStation 4, thanks to a packed roster of games that fulfils his tastes - think story-focused, action-adventure games/RPGs. Having grown up with PlayStation, it’s the console series he’s spent the most time playing by far.

I love action-adventure games/RPGs. I like engaging with a deep and interesting story while exploring an interesting world full of unique gameplay sequences and interactions.

  • News Moss Is Getting a Physical Release, But Its Boxart Leaves a Lot to Be Desired

    Awards galore

We were huge fans of Moss when it launched on the PlayStation Store back in February, with a single caveat of simply wanting more of it. We're about to get that in the form of a physical release hitting on 15th June, but the boxart is a lot less attractive then we hoped it would be. The image itself is fine, but what's with all...

  • Review City of Brass (PS4)

In need of a second coating

The roguelike genre has become a staple of today’s video game industry, with the likes of Spelunky, Rogue Legacy, and The Binding of Isaac being defining releases that helped to legitimise the phenomenon. One more feature that links the three together is the fact that they’re all 2D, a perspective that the genre...

  • Review To Leave (PS4)

    Magical door knocking

Difficulty is a bit of a touchy subject when it comes to video games. On occasion it can be the element that elevates a title to the next level, with the likes of Dark Souls, Bloodborne, and Nioh using their tough nature as an advantage. On the other hand, however, a brutal difficulty has the potential to lead to...

  • Soapbox Far Cry 5's Arcade Mode Is One of the Worst Multiplayer Offerings This Generation

    Liam's having a curation nightmare

Tacked-on multiplayer modes were something that plagued the previous generation of consoles with poor online options that didn't really need to be there at all. Ninja Gaiden III brought its bloodshed to multiple players at once to little applause, BioShock 2 distributed plasmids online with not a lot of fanfare,...

  • News THQ Nordic Is Skipping E3 2018 for the World Cup

    Who can blame them?

E3 2018 and the FIFA World Cup take place in very close proximity to each other this year, and because of that, the Austrian-based company THQ Nordic are snubbing the Los Angeles show floor for the beer gardens of Vienna this time around as they watch the World Cup in Russia from a safe distance.  Because of that, we'll get...

  • News Ghost Recon: Wildlands' Sam Fisher References Metal Gear Solid

    "Then it's only me..."

Oh no, this one hit us hard. With the demise of the Metal Gear Solid franchise following the...

  • Review Time Carnage (PS4)

Let's not do the time warp again

If there was one flaw you could leverage at PlayStation VR upon its launch and the months that followed it, it was that a few too many experiences and titles designed themselves around obliterating enemies from a singular position in a wave-based manner. In the year leading up to today we thought we had ridden...
