Author Profile

Liam grew up with a PlayStation controller in his hands and a love for Metal Gear Solid. Nowadays, he's found playing the latest and greatest PS5 games as well as supporting Derby County. That last detail is his downfall.

Video games have always been my main passion, and I enjoyed writing growing up so it made sense to combine the two! I love a good story in games as well as a neat, inviting hub area.

Experience

Liam began his career as a freelancer, before joining Push Square as Senior Staff Writer in 2019. Some time around 2022 he became Assistant Editor on the site.

His work takes in all kinds of coverage but sees him focusing mainly on news, reviews and guides for the site.

I enjoy creating guide campaigns the most, because I like gathering together all relevant / potential information to achieve a sense of “completionism”. By documenting this, I help other people find the items they’re looking for, or beat a difficult section of a game.

Timeline

  • 2016: Begins his career as a freelance writer
  • 2019: Joins Push Square as Senior Staff Writer
  • 2022: Becomes Assistant Editor of Push Square

Qualifications & Awards

  • University Degree in Journalism - Sheffield Hallam University (2016)

Expertise

Liam’s first console was a PlayStation 1. From there he’s owned every console released by Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo.

His favourite console of all time is the PlayStation 4, thanks to a packed roster of games that fulfils his tastes - think story-focused, action-adventure games/RPGs. Having grown up with PlayStation, it’s the console series he’s spent the most time playing by far.

I love action-adventure games/RPGs. I like engaging with a deep and interesting story while exploring an interesting world full of unique gameplay sequences and interactions.

Feature: Summer Game Fest - What's It Like to Attend?

Industry events are generally very secretive, so I wanted to document what it was like to attend Summer Game Fest for the first time, as well as my experiences around and outside of the show in LA.

  • News Bungie Cancels Final Destiny 2: Curse of Osiris Livestream Amid Fan Backlash

A statement will be issued tomorrow

The initial response to Destiny 2's upcoming Curse of Osiris DLC hasn't exactly been glowing, and with the recent revelations of experience tampering and endgame loot problems, things have gone from bad to worse

  • Review Hidden Agenda (PS4)

    Crime scene investigation

So far, Sony’s new PlayLink initiative hasn’t amounted to anything more than a decent selection of casual party games. Both Knowledge Is Power and That’s You follow the Jackbox Party Pack formula of wrapping up trivia questions within a fun and humorous setting, while SingStar: Celebration allows editor Sammy Barker...

  • News Horizon: Zero Dawn Leads the Way with Five Nominations at The Game Awards

    Aloy time

The Game Awards has just announced its list of nominees for the upcoming show on 7th December, and Horizon: Zero Dawn has come out on top with five nominations. Aloy's adventure is nominated in the following categories: Game of the Year, Best Game Direction, Best Narrative, Best Art Direction, and Best Action/Adventure Game. Elsewhere,...

  • Soapbox Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus Is a Better Game to Watch Than to Play

    Liam's feeling conflicted

It’s hard to call Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus my most disappointing game of 2017 when Mass Effect Andromeda released just shy of nine months ago. But, if it wasn’t for that let-down of a space excursion, BJ Blazkowicz’s latest Nazi rampage would be taking that less than coveted prize. However, this...

  • News Destiny 2's Long Overdue HDR Patch Will Deploy Next Month

    Look at those colours

A HDR patch for Destiny 2 has been promised for quite some time now, and thanks to the latest post over on Bungie's website, we now know when that will hit. The high-dynamic range patch will release alongside the Curse of Osiris DLC and the beginning of Season Two on 5th December. As well as that, the PS4 Pro will be treated...

  • Review League of War: VR Arena (PS4)

    Basic combat training

If there’s one thing League of War: VR Arena will be remembered for, it’s that utterly atrocious name. Seriously, it’s like a clueless investor looked at what’s popular right now and took a few buzzwords from that to form something slightly coherent. But alas, that’s not what we’re here to judge. The question...

  • News Portkey Games Is Likely to Bring Harry Potter to PS4

    Harry Potter RPG incoming?

Here at Push Square Towers, we've been wanting a Harry Potter game on PS4 for quite some time. And with a new developer named Portkey Games, opened by Warner Bros, that dream may be about to become a reality. The new developer is set to create new mobile and console games based in the Potter universe, with familiar...

  • Review Oure (PS4)

    Trials of fluff

In the same vein as Abzu, Journey, and the recent AER: Memories of Old, Oure likes to keep itself a little vague. Developer Heavy Spectrum, best known for its work on last year’s Shadow of the Beast, has taken clear inspiration from the likes of thatgamecompany’s masterpiece – but does this help turn Oure into a memorable...

  • Review PixelJunk VR Dead Hungry (PS4)

    McDead

Back on the PlayStation 3, the PixelJunk games were a staple of the digital offerings on the PlayStation Store. Whether it was Racers, Monsters, Eden, or the ever-popular Shooter titles, each game managed to bring something new to the table and make it fun. Developer Q-Games is now looking to continue that mythos in virtual reality with...

  • News We Can't Handle the Sonic Forces Demo, Apparently

    It's not intended for us

In a recent livestream for the upcoming Sonic Forces, it was announced that those looking for some hands on time prior to release will have their wishes fulfilled in the form of a demo, which is actually out now in Japan. However, the sampler -- which restricts play time to a minute -- won't be made available outside of the...

  • News Virgin Media Users Suffer With PSN Sign-In Problems

We just want to play Destiny 2

This scribe just tried to sign into the PlayStation Network, only to find the service unavailable. Many Virgin Media users have reported having trouble accessing the network today, with the official PSN server status website saying that: "PlayStation Network services are up and running in your area, but several reports...

  • Hands On Forgotton Anne Remembers to Bathe in Style

    More than meets the eye

You could say that the 2D platforming genre has become a little stale as a myriad of titles release every week hoping to replicate the experiences you remember from 20 years ago, but Forgotton Anne does things differently. A 2D side-scrolling platformer it is indeed, but with a stunning visual art style, surprising mechanics,...

  • Hands On Far Cry 5 Sticks to the Tried and Tested Formula

    A stronger party cabinet

If Ubisoft were to give another one of its franchises a bit of a break and a slight reboot, the Far Cry series has to be a prime candidate. Despite entry numbers three and four being fairly high in quality, they followed the Ubisoft open world formula to a tee, with only a radical setting change being the main...

  • News Familiar Faces Return to Destiny 2 in Faction Rallies

    New loot

Despite being less than a month old, Destiny 2's first special event is about to get underway. Starting 26th September, players will be able to take part in the Faction Rallies, a new affair that pits the three factions from the original game against each other in a bid to gather supplies and obliterate enemy resources. Guardians will be...

  • Review Resident Evil: Revelations (PS4)

    Pier pressure

With Capcom seemingly hell-bent on releasing every modern Resident Evil game on the current generation of consoles, it was only a matter of time until Resident Evil: Revelations made its appearance. Originally released on the Nintendo 3DS in 2012, the title has gone through a number of remasters and received a variety of changes and...

  • Guide Knack 2 Hints and Tips for Surviving the Knackening

Here are five hopefully helpful tips for making your experience an even more enjoyable one. Take advantage of the heavy punch Every one of the core abilities that you...

The Not A Hero DLC, which will star Chris Redfield and is free to all owners of the base game, is set to release on the 14th December according to the leak. Along...

  • Review Knack 2 (PS4)

    Knack strikes back

It’s fair to say that Knack divided opinion upon its release alongside the PlayStation 4 in November 2013. Some concluded it to be an abomination that failed to live up to the promise of being a Crash Bandicoot successor, while others deemed it to be not so bad. Either way you look at it, it's now clear to see that the divisive...

  • Push Rewind Did Destiny Deliver in the End?

    A sense of meaning

Destiny means so many different things to different people. For some, it was a complete failure; an experience severely lacking in content, variety, and story were the cries of its dismissers as they joined the growing air of disappointment surrounding Bungie’s Halo successor. They seemingly formed the bulk of online opinion...

  • Push Rewind Was Knack Really That Bad?

    The right to exist

The week that was is no more.  We're bringing back the Push Rewind name after nearly a year of dormancy, but with a brand new meaning. Instead of a round-up of the previous week's news, we'll be taking a deep dive into games that are about to receive a sequel. This will exclude reboots, spiritual successors, side stories,...

  • Soapbox Uncharted: The Lost Legacy's Western Ghats Chapter Is One of the Series' Best

Liam's raving about the open world

The jeep trekking sections of Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End made up some of my favourite moments from our 2016 Game of the Year. It was Naughty Dog’s first foray into building an open world environment for a Nathan Drake adventure, and for its initial effort, the developer was incredibly successful. Madagascar...

  • Review White Day: A Labyrinth Named School (PS4)

    Whispering corridors

In 2001, a little-known game called White Day: A Labyrinth Named School released to a Korean-only audience, and amongst those who played it, many considered the title to be one of the scariest games of all time. 16 years later, this slice of Korean horror has finally made its way to western shores thanks to an English...

  • Review ChromaGun (PS4)

    Paint by numbers

On paper, it’s obvious what ChromaGun will be compared to. A first-person puzzler set inside the white walls of a laboratory with an unfinished weapon that needs testing out? “That’s Portal!” we hear you scream. And if you were to look at it that simply, then indeed it is – but that would take away from everything...

  • News Life Is Strange: Before The Storm's Platinum Trophy Requires the Deluxe Edition (Updated)

    Square Enix responds

Life Is Strange: Before The Storm's Trophies just went live over on PSN Profiles, and we've noticed something that could be deemed a little unfair. The final Trophy on the list is a Gold one that is achieved by completing the episode called Farewell. This bonus episode is exclusive to the Deluxe Edition of the game, and...
