RoboCop: Rogue City (PS5)
With its scrappy first-person shooter Terminator: Resistance, developer Teyon attracted quite the cult following. It’ll be looking to build on that with RoboCop: Rogue City, a game that’s gunning for a similar audience, and has original actor Peter Weller on board.

Scars Above (PS5)
New intellectual property is always exciting, and Scars Above is hoping to establish a name for itself in the third-person shooter space. Promising tense, challenging combat encounters and an engaging alien-themed storyline, this could be one of 2023’s surprise hits.
Sea of Stars (PS5)
Developed by Sabotage Studio, this is actually a prequel to The Messenger. Sea of Stars swaps the ninja platforming action for turn-based RPG adventuring, and it looks wonderful. The visuals are great, and we know the team can pack its writing with personality, so this has a lot of promise.
Season (PS5)
Announced years ago, this indie adventure game looks like a peaceful, meditative experience. With the world on the brink of some cataclysmic event, you'll explore a picturesque environment and talk to its inhabitants, all with the aim of preserving what's left. On foot or by bike, you'll record sounds and conversations, take pictures, and take down notes on your surroundings as you learn about a world that's on its way out.
Sherlock Holmes: The Awakened (PS5)
Ukrainian developer Frogwares revisits one of its earlier Sherlock Holmes titles in this top-to-bottom remake of the Cthulhu tinged Sherlock Holmes: The Awakened. Taking Arthur Conan Doyle’s detective to New Orleans, the release will expand upon the open-ended gameplay first introduced in Sherlock Holmes: Chapter One.
Silent Hill 2 (PS5)
Bloober Team gets its biggest gig yet with this full remake of legendary PS2 release Silent Hill 2. Upgraded gameplay means it’ll adopt a third-person, “over-the-shoulder” camera perspective, with a massively revamped combat system. The same eerie atmosphere will remain, however.
Skull and Bones (PS5)
Delayed, then delayed again, and then delayed once more, Skull and Bones should release in 2023. We should be safe saying that, right? Upon every showing, the ocean explorer hasn't looked particularly impressive, with poor menus, drab combat, and soulless environments. To be honest, this is one of the few games we've included to make the article a nice round 60.
Star Wars Jedi: Survivor (PS5)
Building on the fantastic 2019 Game of the Year contender Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, Cal Kestis returns in a sequel that promises to be bigger and even better. New features and mechanics have been promised, along with a continuation of the story. Star Wars Jedi: Survivor will be one to look out for in March.
Street Fighter 6 (PS5)
Capcom learned a lesson or three from the subdued launch of Street Fighter V, and it’s not going to make the same mistake twice. Street Fighter 6 is not only shaping up to be one of the strongest one-on-one fighters in some time, but it’s also looking like a knock-out package, with a sprawling World Tour single player campaign that will take you right across the globe, from Metro City to Paris.
Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League (PS5)
Rocksteady returns at long last in this upside-down take on the DC Universe. With the Justice League brainwashed by Brainiac, it’s down to the eponymous Suicide Squad to save the day in this open world action adventure featuring four-player co-op.
Tales of Symphonia Remastered (PS4)
Still running at just 30 frames-per-second, this will hardly be a remaster for the ages, but the classic Tales of Symphonia is coming back for fans and newcomers. Still considered one of the best entries in the JRPG series, this will be a welcome trip down memory lane for many.
Tchia (PS5)
Tchia has looked delightfully enchanting since its announcement. Set in New Caledonia, you play as a child exploring the archipelago, but you also happen to have some special abilities. You can possess animals around the islands, allowing you to swim through the water as a fish or fly through the clouds as a bird. This open world platformer is brimming with personality, and we can't wait to play it.
The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners - Chapter 2: Retribution (PS5)
As irritating as its title may be, The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners – Chapter 2: Retribution is practically guaranteed to be one of the PSVR2’s early highlights. A massively expanded sequel to Skydance Interactive’s open-ended survival game, this virtual reality release will challenge you to think on your feet, as you make use of your scant resources to survive a zombie apocalypse.
The Wolf Among Us 2 (PS5)
One of Telltale Games' best-loved titles was The Wolf Among Us, and the patience of its fans will finally be rewarded in 2023. A sequel to the adventure game picks up six months afterwards, with a new case brewing in Fabletown. Expect the same noir-tinged fantasy and an engaging mystery in this narrative adventure.
Trails into Reverie (PS5)
The Trails train stops for no one, having been running since as far back as 2004. Trails into Reverie is the latest to make its out of Japan and onto Western consoles, having first launched in the East back in 2020. It marks the end of the Crossbell and Erebonia storylines, and sets up the events of the latest instalment Kuro no Kiseki, which launched late last year in the Land of the Rising Sun.
Trails to Azure (PS4)
PSP ports have been popular of late, haven’t they? The Legend of Heroes: Trails to Azure marks another conversion from Sony’s first handheld format. This, the sequel to Trails from Zero, never made it out of Japan a decade ago – but is finally being localised for PS4, over ten years after it first debuted.
Wanted: Dead (PS5)
Scrappy b-tier combat stars in this off-the-wall blend of third-person shooting and melee-based character action. Metal Gear Solid 5 actress Stephanie Joosten cameos in an in-universe cooking show, in this love letter to the PS2 era from veteran Ninja Gaiden developers.
Wild Hearts (PS5)
Veteran developer Omega Force has teamed up with juggernaut publisher EA to bring this spiritual successor to the Toukiden franchise to a more mainstream audience. Wild Hearts is a Monster Hunter-style action game, where technology gives you the upper-hand against otherwise unthinkable odds.
Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty (PS5)
Essentially Nioh in all but name, Team Ninja is back with another take on the Dark Souls formula. This time around, you'll be working your way through the era of the Three Kingdoms, with a fully customisable character being your eyes into the world. Expect an absurd amount of depth in terms of builds, combat encounters, and weapon variety. It's the Team Ninja way.
Ys IX: Monstrum Nox (PS5)
If you want to talk about long-running franchises, let’s talk about Ys. The first entry in this JRPG series dates as far back as 1987, and it got its start in the West on the Master System a couple of years later. Ys IX: Monstrum Nox is already available on the PS4, but this upgraded PS5 re-release will include all previously released DLC at launch.
That’s 60 of our most anticipated PS5 and PS4 games for 2023, then, but as we said at the start, we could have almost doubled the length of this article. There are also many, many more titles likely to be announced over the course of the year – The Last of Us Factions, we’re looking at you – so perhaps you’re beginning to get a better idea of how strong the coming 12 months are looking on PlayStation.
We’d love to hear your thoughts on your most anticipated games. You can vote on up to five games in the poll below, and we’ll be sure to share the results with you later in the month. You can also write in at least one additional entry in the Other category, so take advantage of that and tell us about the games we missed.

Eyuden chronicle and suikoden remasters are missing.
Gonna be an expensive year
@Ashkorsair @LazyLombax They're our most anticipated PS5, PS4 games. It's not meant to be an exhaustive list of every single 2023 title.
So Silksong confirmed for 2023? Great!
9 of 10 times when japanese people talk about release windows and say Winter they talk about January-March of next year so yeah I think there is no chance FF7 releases in the FFXVI year but it doesn't matter, pretty excited for both games.
Not sure if it's coming to playstation but system shock remake is definitely a must play for me
There's a good 20 or so games I'm looking forward to but the 5 I'm really hyped for...
1. Spider-Man 2
2. Like a Dragon: The Man Who Erased His Name
3. Like a Dragon: Ishin!
4. Assassin's Creed Mirage
5. Tekken 8
Definitely that Harry Potter game for me
One of the hardest pick 5 polls by far
2023's release schedule is ridiculous. I can't remember the last time one year was packed with so many games I'm excited about.
Final Fantasy XVI is the big one for me, but I also can't wait for Trails into Reverie, Azure, and the Like a Dragon games. Got high hopes for Cyberpunk 2077's expansion as well.
Granblue Fantasy: Relink is well worth a shout too, but it's somehow missing from this list. That's what I get for going on holiday when this was written, I suppose...
Edit: Oh, and Diablo 4...and Street Fighter 6! Like I say, ridiculous.
A lot of amazing games coming this year.its gonna be another amazing year for PlayStation.word up son
June is going to absolutely demolish my social life if both SF6 and Final Fantasy XVI stick the landing. Then there's the two Trails games, Like A Dragon Ishin, Persona 3&4, Spider-Man 2...
Yup its going to be a strong year no doubt.
Looking forward to Hogwarts Legacy, Spider-man 2 and perhaps Hollow Knight (if not too difficult), Season, and The Wolf Among Us 2.
how is Stellar Blade not on here?
I think 2023 will be an amazing gaming year.
With many of these sequels and remakes I think we know what we’re getting, don’t mean this in negative way. Not the one I’m most looking forward to but probably one I’m most curious about is Pragmata. Most looking forward to I selected were Spidey, Hogwarts, FF16, Cyberpunk dlc, and RE4.
@TheEnygma I would also like to know.
Street Fighter 6 and Sea of Stars are my most anticipated. I don't think Alan Wake 2 will come out next year, nor FF7rebirth.
I know the list isn't exhaustive but it's surprising Tekken 8 isn't on here. Seems more likely than some of the others, even if it doesn't have a launch window.
@TheEnygma Yeah. Kind of a strange omission, especially since the Skull & Bones entry said they just included it for a round 60, so the much better-looking Stellar Blade would make more sense. My best guess is they simply forgot.
@ShogunRok I can't wait to hear games have underperformed because it's way to much for me its the first time I have to say I'm going to skip a few games.
Its to much and I don't feel like going insane to play everything I almost finally finished Rachet and Clank such a fantastic game.
My favorite local gaming store just closed I didn't even need to do a down-payment to get my games there the end of era and the end of playing so much games.
Wait. A good list, however a significant amount of these mentioned aren't even confirmed or likely coming in 2023.
Star Wars Jedi Survivor I want this game now.
Hogwarts Legacy This actually looks better every time they show anything of it, I started off not really fussed about a Wizarding World game, and now I'm thinking I'll buy it on release if it's reported as working properly. I didn't even know it'd be open world at first. Oof, it looks really good now.
Suicide Squad Kill the Justice League This will be fun, and I imagine it will have infitinitly less annoying dialogue than Saints Row and Forspoken, somehow! I think it will actually be genuinely funny, maybe a sleeper gem like GotG where that game actually worked better than the movies and more people should definitely play it!
Spider Man 2 will we get to bite off some heads?
Assassin's Creed Mirage interesting to see what they do with this title
Alan Wake II Survival Horror is not my thing, but I really want to see where they take the story. Alan Wake ended with the single most fantastic, memorable, and yet utterly stupid and pretentious line of dialogue ever, and I absolutely loved it 😁
Lies of P Looks kind of interesting
I've relegated Forspoken from one of my most anticipated when it was announced to one I'm not that bothered about now, having not even liked the first 10 minutes of the demo. All I liked was the bound sword combat. The world didn't even look that interesting, unfortunately I truly hope people love it, but it leaves me feeling empty at the moment.
Phew, big year, and that's just some of the titles, proabably.
@KundaliniRising333 You could count the number of games that might not make 2023 on our list on one hand. The vast majority are this year for certain.
For me it’s all about burning shores dlc for Horizon! Secondly Spider-Man 2 and then il take a bit of resi 4, silent hill 2 and call of the mountain. Busy year indeed, I’d of picked ten if you’d let me 🤤
Everything I’m looking forward to the most to play this year:
1. Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom
2. Starfield
3. Jedi: Survivor
4. Spider-man 2
5. FFXVI
@LiamCroft gotcha. The one that really stood out was Armored Core. I suspect we won't be seeing that until late 2024 at the earliest. And FF rebirth will likely be early 2024 so as not to overshadow ff16 during holiday sales push
@LiamCroft Fair, but Deliver us the Moon was such a popular gem that it’s hard to not call Deliver us Mars highly anticipated.
Really looking forward to Robocop Rogue City. Teyon did an amazing job with Terminator Resistance.
@KundaliniRising333 The Armored Core 6 announcement trailer had 2023 at the end of it.
That looks amazing
@LiamCroft really?!
Well hell yah
Ah man sooooo many games I'm looking forward to, in no particular order
Forspoken
RE4 Remake
The Wolf Among Us 2
Silent Hill 2
Dead Space
Spider-man 2
MH Rise
And hopefully we might see Broken Roads as well, which is on my list, hopefully that lives up to my hype.
Off the top of my head these are the six I’m most looking forward to in order of release dates:
1. Wanted: Dead
2. Dead Island 2
3. Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty
4. Stellar Blade
5. The Wolf Among Us 2
6. Rise of the Ronin (2024)
All I will say is thank god for second and third parties! In my opinion Sony are victims of their own success and playing it way too safe with their studio output these days. Everything feels so generic, formulaic and predictable now. Not interested in yet another Marvel, Last of Us, Horizon, GT or GOW game.
Am I the only one who would much rather experience Ragnorok in Valkyrie Elysium as opposed to playing GOWR?
As a 38 year old I think I’m craving more original and unique experiences. Returnal convinced me that next-gen had arrived and pushed me to upgrade to a PS5. I feel that Sony’s first party games are extremely well-polished but not offering anything new. I don’t blame them for what they’re doing as the figures don’t lie and the majority of the market is happy to lap up more of the same.
Be that as it may I really miss the PS3 and PS4 era where Sony tried different things on smaller budgets via Japan Studio including the likes of Tokyo Jungle, Gravity Rush, and Everybody’s Golf. Hopefully Sony have something novel up their sleeve. I will credit them for making Stellar Blade and Rise of the Ronin console exclusive.
I’m also tempted to try PSVR2 in a few years when the price and games available are lot more appealing. In the meantime, very grateful to third parties and indies for keeping me satiated!
Trimming it to just five options is hard, especially when I’ve already preordered four titles already!
I can’t wait to know more about Pragmata.
SKATE
I'm looking forward to 🤞
It looks like 2023 is going to bring some serious lost time to gaming. It was hard only to pick five on that list.
@astro911 I miss the PS3 sony as well. Sony is a lot more fun when they are behind. At least third parties look to bring it this year. I didn’t like Forbidden west. I was not a big fan of TLOU2. And GT7 is the most boring GT ive played. And i have no interest in GOW Ragnarok. Soider-man 2 looks ok but I just can’t be bothered to be excited about. But over on the Xbox its even worse. I think it just the age of gaming we live in. I find myself doing a lot more retro gaming these days. Being 43 I find that i realy need games to be more than just pretty graphics and story. I want to “play“ games.
Hollow Knight 2
Spider man 2
Re4 remake
Hogwarts Legacy
FF16
agh but I'm interested in 19 games... and I feel like most of them are releasing since they got delayed and have a release date.
I think we need a sony presentation soon. Feels like it's just spidey 2 and that's it.
@roadhog #justiceforgt7
I’m surprised that Wild Hearts isn’t being hyped more. It’s really being pushed in Japan, I’ve seen a lot of marketing for it already over the last couple of months.
Looks a like a potentially great Monster Hunter clone, and if they can simplify the oblique Monster Hunter systems then I think it could be a big hit.
Come to me ifrit 🔥🔥
I was about to say, what about starfield. But then I remembered
@LazyLombax yup and they said next winter that's why the game is in this list BUT that for them means from the beginning of January of 2024 to the end of march 2024
My five must-plays are easily Hogwarts Legacy, Jedi Survivor, Suicide Squad, Spidey 2…and Zelda over on Switch!
I'm considering a class action lawsuit against you guys for not including Stellar Blade 🙂 it's a PlayStation exclusive and it's being published by Sony! 😅
Didn't mention Stellar Blade. Highly looking forward to that one.
@Juanalf My very first thought as well!
Let's play a drinking game. You have to drink a fifth of vodka every time one of these games PS is hyping up, gets mediocre reviews. Start prepping your liver now.
Is blue protocol solo with co op like Genshin impact? I was hoping for mmorpg.
Who are the characters in the banner?
I see resident evil on the right, Spiderman in the middle. Who is on the left?
My most anticipated games for next year:
1. Wo long
2. Zelda
3. Starfield
4. Diablo 4
5. Final fantasy 16
All the games I voted for are on the 0% and 1%.
The fact that PlayStation only has a first party in Spider-man on that list and is sure to announce at least two games for 2023 (I’d have thought right? Fractions gotta come eventually this year!) in combination with the sheer amount of other games coming out is MAD.
Gonna be a busy year:
Ff xvi
Forspoken
Horizon dlc
Zelda
Forza Motorsport
Starfield
Hellblade 2
Diablo 4
Hogwarts Legacy
Ac Mirage
Homeworld 3
Company of heroes 3
Ride 5
Wo long
Cyberpunk 2077 expansion and Starfield are the games I'm looking forward to most.
slams fists on the table
SILENT. HILL.
ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING SILENT HILL.
Silksong is no.1 for me (even if I'll probably end up playing it on switch).
Armoured Core VI, Resi 4, SF6 and Sea of Stars fill out the rest of my top 5 picks.
If Judas releases this year (highly unlikely I know) then that would take sea of Stars spot and Tekken 8 could take Resi 4's and I'd fit Stellar Blade in somewhere!
Outside of the realm of playstation Tears of the Kingdom would of course take a spot and IF Avowed launched (like Judas, highly unlikely) then that too would take a spot.
I'am mostly excited about psvr2. Though, at the moment I am only really interested in call of the mountain and resident evil village. The cinematic trailer of Behemoth looks enticing, but the actual game could be far from that. I am still hoping that there are a few more exciting announcements concerning psvr2 titles in the pipeline. But who knows, maybe I am buying this peripheral for two games ?
Other than that Pragmata peaked my interest, but the trailer has not told me anything about the gameplay. I never played FF7 before the remake, which I liked a lot. I might pull the trigger on FF7 Rebirth.
But, whenever I play a flat game, I always think how much better it would be in VR. With PSVR2 it seems possible to match the visuals of the flat version. Therefore I am really hoping that PSVR2 will take off and there will be many flat games also fully playable in PSVR2, even if the adaptation is relatively simple like resident evil 7 or hitman 3. If that is going to happen, those are likely the titles I would be interested in.
Betting over half of these don't release in 2023. This is the way
Way too many games to play in 2023.
1. FFXVI
2. Street Fighter 6
3. Diablo IV
4. FF Pixel Remaster 4-6 on Switch
5. Possibly FFVII Rebirth
6. Spider-Man 2
7. Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom
8. Jedi Survivor
Just too dang much.
Of them all Tears of the Kingdom is my number 1, followed by FFXVI.
No way I can justify these all at release at full price. I’m gonna have to prioritize.
Zelda, SF6, FFXVI, and Rebirth (if it makes it into 2023) are day ones. Everything else I’ll wait for their first price drops to pickup.
Lollipop Chainsaw remake.
@F1at8mot0 I agree with everything you said, especially about playing games rather than watching some pretty story unfold. To be honest my backlog across PS3, PS4 and Vita will last me a lifetime so maybe it’s a blessing in disguise there aren’t so many titles coming out to add to the pile.
Only one game there for me, RE4.
What about Stellar Blade?? That combat looks smoooooooth.
I'm really looking forward to Final Fantasy XVI, the Like A Dragon games, the Cyberpunk DLC, and despite not really liking the first one - Alan Wake II. I really think they can nail the sequel.
Fortunately, while the list of looks absolutely bonkers, there are only few games which interest me:
1. Layers of Fear
2. Marvel's Spider-Man 2
3. Oxenfree II: Lost Signals
4. Resident Evil 4
5. The Wolf Among Us 2
This is good, though, because I finally caved in and bought Elden Ring (DLC in 2023?), and with The Witcher 3 PS5 port just released and my backlog from 2022, I think I'm covered for the whole year.
This is an awesome year for gaming!
Really hyped up for :-
1. Hogwarts Legacy
2. Spider-Man 2
3. Stars Wars Fallen Order
4. Cyberpunk
5. Horizon
6. Resident Evil 4
And then the Suicide Squad game is coming out too.
Also Tekken 8!
2023 is definitely gonna be a very packed year! I'm looking forward to most of what @VivianXD2464 listed, plus FF16, SpongeBob Cosmic Shake, and a few other games.
@KidBoruto i forgot about Cosmic Shake! Really excited about that too! I loved the previous SB game
@VivianXD2464 I still have yet to play my physical copy of Battle for Bikini Bottom Rehydrated, but I've heard nothing but good things!
Planning to play it later in January, after I beat the LEGO Harry Potter Collection.
