While we're still struggling to believe that the penultimate month of 2024 is somehow upon us, Sony has spilled the beans on November's PS Plus Essential games. As per usual, subscribers are getting three PS5 and PS4 titles as part of the base tier.
So what's in store this time around? Well, we've got a brand new release in the form of Death Note Killer Within — a rather intriguing project that transforms the masterful manga and anime property into a weird multiplayer thing. Look, it's difficult to describe, but it could be fun.
Ghostwire: Tokyo is next — the well-received (if a slightly forgotten) 2022 action title from Tango Gameworks. We're obviously past Halloween now, but this spooky outing should still fit the season.
And finally, we've got Hot Wheels Unleashed 2: Turbocharged. A very different kind of game compared to its fellow offerings, but an undeniably enjoyable arcade racer, complete with a crazy custom track editor.
But are you happy with your PS Plus Essential games for November 2024? As always, drop some votes in our polls, and then give us an honest opinion in the comments section below.

This month I'll be mostly feeling ambivalent.
Not at all.... PSPlus is in a dire need of new Day 1 releases at least once a month.... especially since GamePass has Call of Duty.
I played Ghostwire when it was on Extra. While it looks good, it has stuttering, pop-in and frame rate issues in the more crowded areas, making it feel like visual polish was priority for the devs, not technical stability.
@ZeroSum I agree. It does look nice though but it just got a bit boring and out stayed its welcome too quickly. I'll grab hot wheels as I enjoyed the first one.
@Major_Player You want a day 1 release every month but you don't want to play Death Note which is a day 1 release? That's confusing.
I have a real soft spot for Ghostwire: Tokyo so of course I feel that’s a pretty great offering for those who haven’t played it. For me, I thought Hot Wheels: Unleashed was a lot of fun and am stoked to now get the second one. Good month!
Still personally subscribing to my theory of people judging the lineup purely if there’s a 3rd person action adventure game in it
Well, I have Ghostwire Tokyo for a long time now, completed it already and had a good time, while it could have been better.
I also own Hot Wheels 2, not that I'm a big Hot Wheels fan, but these games are good, even if they can be really tough.
So good games, but I have both on disc already.
And i don't have a clue about the 3rd game.
I’ll try the Death Note game… maybe… I dunno. I’ll download it until I need to delete because I need space for something else, at least
No interest in death note, and already own ghost wire(which i love). The hotwheels games though are deceptively fun. That makes this month semi solid
Is it possible to be happy with games you already played long time ago? Sony has to change the approach. I’m not paying anymore for this crap.
When I look at the death note game all I think is.... look how they massacred my boy.
Mostly happy, wanted to try Ghostwire
I own all the old titles and no interest in a 10 player title at all.
The two old titles are both great though.
This month is pretty whatever, but at least I've got two Horizon games to compensate.
@Nintendo4Sonic Death Note Killer Within is based on an okay anime series. A demon drops a Death Note from the demon realm into the human realm. The Death Note is a special note book where the name of anyone written on the pages will die. A human discovers this and decides to start acting out his version of social justice. What follows is a series based on suspense as the Death Note holder tries to stay anonymous and various government entities try to figure out who is behind the killings.
Makes up the basic premise of the game - 1 player has the Death Note and can kill other players. Everyone is anonymously and has to try to find out who the killer is.
I enjoyed Ghostwire Tokyo, but was quickly soured when they shoehorned in that awful roguelite dlc mode. They should have left well enough alone, or at least not attached trophies to it, forcing trophy hunters to slog through that tedium just to get back to the previous 100% completion status. Bad move to add a mode that’s fundamentally different to the core game. I didn’t sign up for mindless rogue lite stuff, and wouldn’t have initially played the game had I known in advance they would have added it.
@Balaam_ for reasons like that I only really care if I have the platinum and I don’t sweat the 100%. It would drive me crazy otherwise 😂
Into the library, never to be played.
@Balaam_ You really wouldn't have played a great game just because an optional dlc you don't want messes with trophy percentage? You don't play games to enjoy the game but merely to get OCD completion tokens? It's not about the journey, it's about the destination?
I've never got the whole trophy thing but the more people talk about them like this the more i feel there's something fundamentally damaging to gaming about their existence.
I love j-horror but ghostwire looks like it forgot about the horror. Upcoming slitterhead unfortunately too from the latest trailers, which is a shame, since the announce trailer looked terrifyingly disgusting.
Ghostwire was at least twice for free in the Epic store, maybe I will try it in the future. While I loved Death Note (at least the first half), cant get with the idea of an Among Us type of game. The third game is irrelevant for me.
I've been assuring my youngest for months that Hot Wheels 2 will pop up on Plus. Relief is my main emotion
Yet another crap month.
I've already turned off auto renew, ps+ isn't worth the money, especially since they hiked the price up.
I treated in Ghostwire! Not sure when I'll have the time for it but good to have it available
Its a cool month.ghostwire toyko is definitely the man of the hour.word up son
Been wanting to play Ghostwire for a while now and I heard Hot Wheels 2 is even better than the first game which was already pretty good, so I definitely happy there. Not really into Death Note so it's not the coolest day one game for Essential for me, but it's not like its the end of the world with the other two games
@Major_Player you mean like this month?
Ghost wire Tokyo been on my radar for a while, so looking forward to cracking that open. And hot wheels should be fun i presume. I'm not sure what the ones moaning about this selection wants
Hot wheels makes it decent for me👍
I played Ghostwire: Tokyo when I had a PS Plus extra subscription. I finished the game at that time but I want to go back and get the platinum so I’m happy I can claim it on Essential. I love the game. No interest in Death Note but I might give the mini car one a go. I’m happy with this month for Ghostwire alone
I’ve played Ghostwire on Game Pass and loved it, I definitely recommend it.
I have 1 out of 3 games so I'm exited. But if they release a tier without games I'll be all over it. I'll take a discount on games and cloud saves.
@Major_Player People comparing completely different services will never cease to amaze me. Call of Duty ain't on the basic tier of GamePass, the equivalent of Essential , which is what's being discussed here. It's also, you know, owned by Microsoft who are utterly desperate to get people to use GamePass/their almost dead platform.
Oh, and there is in fact a day one game on here this month.
The sheer self-entitlement of modern gamers really is something to behold.
So I actually enjoyed most of my time in GhostWire Tokyo (through to completion) - but that's largely because it felt like returning to my second home. The game's reasonably repetitive, but it has a decent rhythm; so not the best, but not the worst (I'd give it a 7.5/10). I know a lot of people dropped it fast though because it's pretty simplistic game-play, and lack of variety in enemy.
The platinum is just a lot of pretty grindy collections - so passed on that.
I would have been interested in Death Note... if it wasn't a multiplayer focused game. Likewise for HotWheels. Overall, I would say this was a quite missable month.
@knowles2 From my experience with Subscription Bros, they want an infinite supply of their own very particular (and usually narrow) tastes catered to, screw everyone else, and they'd like to keep it all for two quid per month. And if they stop paying that fee, they'd still want access.
@NEStalgia That comment is a perfect example why trophies/achievements are a pox on gaming.
I hope Nintendo hold firm and never introduce this garbage.
@tameshiyaku Ghost-wire definitely isn't horror... it is a pretty straight action adventure game (very light RPG elements). The positives are the rainy Tokyo nights vibes along with some Japanese folk-lore visual elements (they're more just mood-pieces than really lore related)... and some of the "set-piece levels" are pretty good. You can definitely button smash you're way through (or just stealth around most of the "enemies").
It's an OK month. Would've rated it as good if I hadn't already played Ghostwire.
Anytime there is a game I haven't played I pick it up. So I usually end up getting something every month even if I never play it
Ghost wire has been free twice on Epic. The game is legit though. I ended up playing it on ps5 though, got it for $30. I wish I gave it a chance when it first released, its worth the price tag of $59.99. Such a sleeper hit.
@Nintendo4Sonic It does mean you can go sell the disc versions to CeX or equivalent though
Happy to see a decent vote for Ghostwire. For those that play it please stick with it.
Sony is searching in trash cans for last couple of months...
These comments sections never cease to amaze me... I genuinely thought to myself this is actually a half decent selection, something for everyone but as usual the "No, it's a crap selection" is running away with the votes.
I guess far too many people on here are either extremely unrealistic in what they expect from the service or just plain old impossible to please lol
I suspect it's probably the latter
@NEStalgia That's why I think some of these people are pretty dense. "Screw the game, trophies are FAR more important!"
@Balaam_
Wow, I'm genuinely not having a go at you, each to their own and all that but that just seems completely insane to me.
I've heard of people refusing to play some older games on ps plus because they haven't been updated with trophies (which again seems absolute madness to me)
But wishing you'd never played a game in the first place because some DLC has messed up your trophy completion rate is taking things to another level.
I've never particularly cared for trophies one way or the other but if they can create that level of OCD and obsession maybe you should just start gaming for the enjoyment of it rather than striving for 100% perfection all the time.
By the way please don't take what I've just said too seriously...... I am mostly just joking but your comment really did make me laugh
Sony really need to add a basic tier that lets you play games online for £10 a year. It's crazy I have to pay £70 a year to play games I'm already paying £50+, like Elden Ring, the way they are intended. I haven't played a ps+ game for over a year now, I have more than enough games to play.
Seriously, how did we let them get away with charging £70 a year to play games online? It's so sad.
@Old-Red
I don't play online that much myself but for what it's worth i completely agree that there should be a very basic entry level "online play" only option for those that want it.
It would be interesting to see what the uptake of such an option would be, then compare it to how many people would still opt for the higher options for the "free" games that come with it.
On a side note though, if you're paying £70 you're definitely paying too much, if you buy it around black Friday or maybe end of January it's more often than not on sale with about 40% off.
Last January I managed to get a 12 month PS plus Extra subscription for about £56, when you break it down it's less than a fiver a month so doesn't seem so bad.
@Member_the_game there are those who moan for moaning's sake - at quite literally every single article at this site you will find them taking pops at Sony, at various game publishers, or even just life in general - but the PS Plus moaners are the most predictable
Ghostwire is a really fun game, but is/was already part of Extra. And yes, I know they’re different tiers, but as a subscriber to two or three tiers you feel stolen when games appear on several of them.
@Silenos Please mind that a lot of them paid good money for this service and see the quality of content going down the drain. They have every right to be frustrated with that and giving off repeating signals that it’s not okay.
Nothing there for me at all, in fact nothing of interest to anyone in my house but no bother, we have a huge backlog of incredible games that came before so all good
OK month, I guess - as I already beat Ghostwire (it's not bad) and Hotwheels looks fun but I don't expect to play it a whole lot.
How is this a crap selection? I swear sometimes you people are on another planet!
@Major_Player I agree. Just one or two per year would be a great addition.
That death note game looks like absolute garbage , hot wheels 2 is OK I suppose and ive already played ghostwire tokyo , I really enjoyed it.
Not rally my type of games. But played Tokio ghostwire already. Bit i have enough to play from October so i really do not care.
@Darude84
But why down the drain? Because it might not be your taste. But that has nothing to do with the quality of the games. There are enough who think these are good games. and maybe December will be more to someone else's taste.
@Oz_Who_Dat_Dare doesn't sound overly appealing, but I might try it out.
Looking forward to Hot Wheels 2 - not fussed about the others.
Monthly games are generally naff. I cooked up and just paid another 120 to sony and I barely play online now. Still Dino Crisis...
@TommyNL For PS Plus as a whole the quality has drastically devalued since launch. We were lured in with games such as Demon’s Souls and Returnal, now it’s mainly old, bad, cheap or indie games.
@tameshiyaku it's an amazing game, but it is reasonably solid. I think it will just come down to whether you gel with the 'Tokyo' theme or not... and whether you get annoyed with grindy collection mechanics.
I'm tired of ps4 game's. I bought a ps5 to play ps5 game's. A better selection would be nice to
Death Note sure looks intriguing although I'm still not much of an OM guy, all the less so on a platform I still whip out on a [bi]weekly basis at best. Ghostwire Tokyo would have been THE offer but it's on PS5. And Hot Wheels is on Switch so it can also feel counterproductive to play it on PS4 beyond a possible toe-dip on the quest for 50 more points.😆 So my personal hype is limited again, although the lineup would certainly be a doozy in a universe where I stick to PlayStation home consoles and have plenty of time for them.
Just disappointed I missed my shot when 'Metal Gear Survive' was one of the free games ... I'll never know what it's like to be given garbage for free now
@Member_the_game..
its also worth mentioning www.cdkeys.com and www.shopto.net...😊
as these both tend to run sales whenever there is a sale on at official PS Store, selling/offering PS PLUS & wallet/store credit funds cards/codes at good discount rates.
and having PERSONALLY used them, I can confirm that they're TOTALLY SAFE AND LEGIT TO USE! 💷 💰😎🥳
@DaiTaff
Yes very true, used them a couple of times myself.
I recently renewed my Nintendo switch Online expansion pass with Shop Too for around £25
@Member_the_game The basic one already exists, it's Essential. You're not paying for the games, they're a sweetener.
The problem is Microsoft set this all in motion and solidified pricing a whole two generations before Sony touched it, no way in hell will they reduce pricing that over 40 million people pay.
@MrPeanutbutterz
I'm the opposite, I hardly ever play online so my subscription is specifically for the "free" games lol
Personally I think the essential tier is great value, especially if you can grab it when it's on sale at various points throughout the year.
In my other post I was simply agreeing with the other person that, for those people who have zero interest in the sweetener games (as you put it) there should be a cheaper online play only option.
It's not something I'd personally be interested in as I've already mentioned, I'm all about the free monthly games but there are plenty of people who probably just want to play their existing game online and nothing more.
@Member_the_game Oh definitely, I'd prefer a cheaper option as I'm a "buy the games I actually want to play" kind of guy, but alas. Locking save backups to cloud only with Plus was a genuine scum move too.
Street Fighter 6 is my most played game (by far) this gen, so I keep it around for that. I was also grandfathered into the Premium tier from Now, so it renews for €80, not €160 (and I do play the odd game from that, most recently Dead Island 2 was some good, dumb fun).
Definitely not the best month
