It's time once again to weigh up another batch of games coming to PS Plus Extra and PS Plus Premium. 17 titles are making the jump to Sony's more expensive subscription tiers, and we'll go right ahead and say that there's a lot of variety to this month's selection. From super promising indie RPG Sea of Stars — which debuts on the service — and another Destiny 2 expansion to the wacky Destroy All Humans! 2: Reprobed and the largely great Lost Judgment, August's range surely boasts at least one game that appeals.
Premium's got another three games up for grabs as well, in MediEvil: Resurrection, Ape Escape: On the Loose, and Pursuit Force: Extreme Justice. We know, we know, it's yet more Ape Escape, but we think that's a decent trio overall.
But we're not here to tell you what we think — we want to know what you make of August's offerings. So, as always, vote in our polls, and then hold your ground in the comments section below.

Hadn't heard of Sea of Stars until now. I would probably give that a try.
Sea of Stars is easily my most anticipated game of the last year, so Im very excited.
Lost Judgement for me. Really liked the first one.
I will never understand all the people on this site that whine about Premium month in and month out. Premium is fine. For what little extra you pay you get atleast three classic games every month. Something Sony hasn't done in years. People are so entitled. They want Sony to know exactly what games are nostalgic to them on Premium. If you people knew how much goes into getting even one game on the service you'd understand why there's a lack of 3rd party games. That's why we see so many first party games every month. I for one love the service and will continue to support it as long as they continue to bring classic games to it.
It wasn't the best list, but there are good games there. We can't have a gallore of heavy hitters every month anyway haha
Sea of Stars was one of my most anticipated games going into the year. Getting it for free with PS+ at launch is incredible. Still will probably pick it up on a sale down the line
when will the games be available for download i have premium and they are still locked behind a paywall
@Splat the demo is out. It’s very short (like a hour) but gives you an idea of the combat and exploration. It definitely seems to have massive potential. Also, they seemed to have done a really good job to make the fishing mini game actually fun.
Always happy for more Ape Escape.
Also, Sea of Stars looks good. Not sure if I’ll play on PS+ or Gamepass yet, or how deep I’ll get into it with Starfield and Baldur’s Gate also on the horizon (and Mortal Kombat and an overstuffed October… jeez, there’s going to be a lot of multi-game juggling), but I loved The Messenger and I’d like to revisit that world and see what the developers have done with that style of gameplay.
I always feel like this should be asked after the games are out.
@Ken_Kaniff Well said pal 👍
Lost Judgment alone makes this a stellar month.
Glad I didn't buy it in the last sale lol
Its the first month in a while that neither I nor my kids are interested in a single one of the game. Unfortunate, but you'll have that from time to time. Its been a good run up to this point the last six months or so.
Sea of Stars looks awesome. The Premium games aren’t my cup of tea. But at least I have one PS + game to roll with this month
Only because of Sea of Stars.
Sea of Stars is the only saving grace here. I'm happy both PS and Xbox players get a crack at it on their subs early. I guess they figure both Xbox AND PS users don't buy s***. Just Switch owners.
Backed Sea of Stars on KS, but I'm personally excited about Cursed to Golf. I didn't realize it was going to be on there before I saw this poll.
I had my finger on the button to order Lost Judgment but I happily hesitated. That is 20 bucks saved.
A few different games for Japanese subscriptions. We’re getting Labyrinth of Refrain: Coven of Dusk and a Disgaea game which I might check out
I enjoy seeing the seemingly growing "I don't have Premium" percentages in these monthly polls.
@InsaneWade Square's entire business model consists of reselling people the same games over and over and over and over and over again - they are never going to release their games on another company's subscription.
@InsaneWade I just think what they are offering for a very small increase in cost annually is good. It's not like people are paying double what Extra cost. I get that people want all those games RIGHT NOW, but no one thinks big picture. Premium is an integral part of PS Plus that Sony has committed to for the long haul. Those games will probably come eventually. The service has even improved since it launch. They have been gradually patching previously released games with trophy support over the last few months. I'm sure there are hurdles for them to still get over (looking at you 3rd party games with no trophy support) but it is getting better I just think Sony needs to know we want this to continue.
I dont expectt everything, and the service continuously provides me more than I expect, so Ive always been happy.
Same with Premium, theres a ton of good stuff in the classics premium tier for £1 extra a month for my tastes, and the ability to quickly test stream an 'extra' title, to check it out before bothering to download it, is worth the entry cost alone for me.
As usual, the few titles I am interested in, budget wise it's more smart to pick up used disc copies rather than a year's worth of payments for PS Plus gouge tiers.
Funny thing though. I've been digging more into the PS3 back catalogue and have picked up a bunch of games that have given me more hours of fun than most of the current gen stuff, which other than the odd tentpole release worth more than a few hours like Ragnarok and Returnal has been underwhelming since 2020. The pandemic really did set the whole industry back, a lot of industries actually including mine.
@InsaneWade Whats the 350 limit you're referring to? I dint remember them ever giving a limit on the amount if games they would add.
I voted mostly happy even though I don't plan on playing many of them. Between my backlog and new releases, I don't play the games on Extra as much as I should, but having even a couple of games on there that I'd actually go out of my way to play is a positive for me. Sea of Stars is what I voted for, and will be a definite play at some point as long as it doesn't turn out to be a surprising disappointment.
Second month in a row none of the titles interest me. Of course I can use the “I won’t have time to play my backlog anyway” again, but still I’m a bit worried that Extra doesn’t deliver as I was used to anymore.
Can't wait for Destiny 2 expansions. I have all of them on PC but i moved to PS5. Now i got Beyond Light and Witch Queen for free. They made me buying Lightfall on PS5 finally. Really enjoing it.
What premium games. Sheesh, this tier is a mess. Glad I only have it because of the sales for it.
Meanwhile, extra is firing on all cylinders.
Been following Sea of Stars for what feels like years and I CANNOT wait!
@InsaneWade Yea I believe you're mistaken on that. That was 340 additional games at launch with PS1, PS2, PSP, and PS3. They never gave a limit on how many they would add. That would make the Premium service kind of pointless imo if it was finite. I believe for them to have added that third tier they have got to have had a plan for the distant future with the classic games.
@Ken_Kaniff I agree. I don't use the service but I welcome the efforts they have made and got the games happily where I have. The PS3/Vita comparison while a lot of games is unfair.
Emulation takes time for sure.
I mean in a way I do find Xbox OG support licensing to be annoying as it is. The 360 to Xbox One gap of licensing support is amazing let alone just games that even have their source code anymore is just sad.
I mean I doubt even Pitfall Lost Expedition on sixth gen will even be backwards compatible on Xbox, that OG Xbox version. Got a PS2 copy of course had it for years as long as my PS2 but still doesn't mean I can't speculate or go yeah it's not prevalent it isn't happening the publisher doesn't care anymore. XD
I do think while the first party offerings is great to see for sure and it's easily better than the PS Classic by now (even if many on there were still good and many I'd never played ever so it was good value for me even besides people hacking theirs) we do need to take a step back.
It will take time for sure, they will continue working on it for a while. PS2 though hmm. The situation of things there is tough not for game licenses but the I think vulnerabilities there I think there was.
PS3 not in some regions is annoying but it is what it is for streaming possibilities though so a PS3 is worth having for PS3 games still.
PSP is a great offering for sure so many get overlooked on there. Then again many of my favourite games I discovered myself weren't on the PSP/Vita digital so emulation it was or out in the wild.
The quality, the 'focus' of games people care about while many mainstream may be there if not for music or brand licensing games we will never see.
For what 'can' appear the skies are the limit it's just up to source code at the end of the day.
I picked up some Reloaded/Tunnel B1 (first time hearing about them or playing them, Tunnel B1 I had seen footage but forgot about) or TOCA 1 & 2 (licensed teams and music I know, then again Grid 2 for 360 is on BC or Grid Autosport on Switch still years later so no idea there) for PS1 and I doubt those games will be on the service for publisher/source code compared to more notable games these days for relevant series or those that went further generations for people to remember there then some one or two offs and many people overlook on PS1 or PSP even.
Still if PSP entries can be on such services by all means I'm fine with them being there to fill in a gap for not only PSP relevance but just some series appearance on there most people didn't play to just ones on PS2 or PS3 that can't appear but did on PSP and go well it's still available at least even if some limits of content in PSP versions in some cases.
