Those incredibly talented devs over at Hazelight are back with their new co-op extravaganza. Split Fiction has just arrived on PS5, and there's plenty of reason to believe that this is the studio's best work yet.
Reviews for this one have been hugely positive, with the game building on everything that It Takes Two got right. We're talking even more gameplay variety and an even better sense of camaraderie between players. What more does a quirky co-op escapade need?
"Split Fiction is Hazelight Studios' best game yet, and stands out as one of the most accomplished and fun co-op titles on PS5 to date," is what we wrote in our Split Fiction PS5 review.
"Its peerless variety means there's never a dull moment, and all of its different mechanics are consistently well-executed," we concluded, before awarding the title an ultra rare Push Square 10/10. Jeez!
But are you diving into Split Fiction? As always, have your say in our polls, and then tell us all about your co-op plans in the comments section below.

No, I don’t have PS Plus and live alone, so I only play solo.
@Darude84 Same, they look great but coop only is not for me.
Very much looking forward to playing this with my wife but as I’m a cheap busted penny pincher it probably won’t happen until it goes on sale for $30. It’s a 12-13 hour game.
Bonus for waiting for a sale is giving them a chance to get all the updates and patches out, nothing ships in final form anymore. NOTHING.
Hang on, don't they have 3 past games?
I also don't have PS Plus, live alone, and only play solo.
No. But thank you for reminding me I have no friends.
Hope to be picking up my copy today. Cannot wait!
I also live alone and only play solo. After working long hours with the general public all day, I have to retreat and recover.
I believe playing these games requires friends...And since i aint got none - I believe the term is up s**t creek without a paddle 🤨😄
@Perturbator Brothers was developed at Starbreeze before the team splintered off to form Hazelight.
I'll likely play this one with my kiddo. We enjoyed It Takes Two, although we haven't finished it yet. Split Fiction looks like a lot of fun.
A small correction to the poll:
I selected "I played both" referring to A Way Out and It Takes Two, but I also played Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons REMAKE, which reimagines the game as a co-op title (though you can still play it solo).
@Perturbator
They have four if you count the remake of Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons. The original game can only be played solo while the remake is co-op.
Solo player these days. Due to my age I'm the only one remaining from the old crew who is still playing games.
My partner isn't remotely a gamer. She struggles changing channels on the TV with the remote, let alone playing games.
Otherwise I'd have already bought it.
Playing it with my brother when he gets home from work and I can't wait. We replayed A Way Out a couple of days ago and it reminded us how much we love Hazelight's games.
My wife and I both got the Plat for It Takes Two a few days ago. We'll be leaving Split Fiction for a while as I'm just about to start a new job and have to travel for training.
The wife and I will be starting it over the weekend. We loved It Takes Two and I don’t think I’ve ever seen her this excited for a game that doesn’t have Mario in the title
I've been working my way through It Takes Two with my wife for months. She only plays in 10-20 min chunks and gets bored easily. She also struggles with the camera controls so I'm not sure how she'll get in with this one but ill pick it up anyway. Looks amazing.
@Cornpop76 Same here man, I think I might be the last one left in my old crew that still makes times for video games. My wife cant play them at all and my kid is now in the social media phase, so its just me and Spiderman swing around these days.
@The_Wailing_Doom “ Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons. The original game can only be played solo while the remake is co-op.”
Thanks for that. I was discussing having played Brothers on Blue Sky and I didn’t recall it having any way to play co-op. That would explain why. 👍
I couldn't get playstation plus version of a way out to work with local co-op so didn't get to play that.
I started it takes two with my wife but only times we got to play it was of a night and we we're often too tired to want to play it so we gave up but think we may try again now .
I loved Brothers as I could play it alone when it suited me lol
@Perturbator not as same company I don't think. Brothers wasn't haze light I don't think
@The_Wailing_Doom it's not same company. Same guy who is behind brothers and the other 3 but hazelight didn't make either version of brothers
@rusty82 Now that I did not know, but after your comment, I looked it up and the game was made by Starbreeze Studios who then turned into Hazelight.
I’ll be playing it eventually, looking forward to it. I just recently finished It Takes Two and that was pretty great.
@Darude84 you can order their "Friend Edition" XD
need to finish some other stuff first but will absolutely be playing this with the wife ASAP. we loved ITT so much
Played a couple of hours so far with the missus. Very hectic start but we're both loving it
Hazelight is probably my favourite studio right now
29% of people are wasting their PS5. Why even play games if you aren't gonna play the good ones?
@Logonogo I'd recommend playing A Way Out with her as well someday. It's definitely lower budget than It Takes Two but it's fantastic as well.
@Ultimapunch we did play that one back when it came out! a lot of fun. cheers
My son and I very much enjoyed playing as both characters in two playthroughs of It Takes Two and we are very much looking forward to this one next weekend. Probably do another double playthrough.
Can’t wait to play it with my wife! I’m really looking forward to it.
We need more co op games
Started with my wife tonight, and it’s good! Non of us like sci fi very much, so a bit disappointed that’s a heavy theme, but any section outside of that has been excellent so far.
Looks really cool, but I don’t enjoy playing online and I don’t have anyone at home to play!
I’m a solo player almost exclusively. However, I did play It Takes Two with a friend on a whim and it’s excellent. It’s not my usual jam and I was skeptical of it being worthy of GOTY status but I absolutely was sold on it and definitely want to see if I can find a friend to play Split Fiction also.
Looks amazing and well done to these developers for making great games but they are not for me I'm a loner when it comes to games I'm an old skool gamer i play single player games and nothing else
@Quintumply guess one might say their co-op days came to an end?
Only reason I’m not playing it yet is that Amazon was uncharacteristically late with my delivery and my copy isn’t here yet! 😠
My wife and I started this last night and it is siiiiiiiick. Great concept, already in the first hour more gameplay variation than most games in their entire runtime.
I like co op games but the games from those devs just haven't interested me
I’ve bought it but my son who’s played the previous titles with me is away the whole weekend so it will be next week before I get a chance to start
I have one friend I play online with, and we've done Way Out, It takes two, and started Split Fiction last night - an absolutely joyful experience that manages to nail so many different mechanics and just be a a total laugh to play!
Played It Takes Two on the Switch & despite the slow down & lower resolution (not to mention the awful characters - that little girl deserves so much better) we loved it. Now have it on PS5 so we'll do another play though at some point. Downloaded last night and VERY much looking forward to it tonight!
Need a solo mode!
@Quintumply I see. I just think of it as Josef Fares line of co-op games I guess.
Nope. I have no friends to play with. Womp womp.
I'm having a lot of fun watching my son and daughter play. Great game
I am playing the game with my teenage son and honestly we are having the time of our lives. This is easily the best co-op game ever created 👏
