Just in case you somehow missed it, the PlayStation Network — commonly known as the PSN — went down over the past weekend.
The network was down and out for around 20 hours, beginning on Friday the 7th February at 11:00pm GMT, and finally ending on the 8th January at 8:30pm GMT. Yes, the outage lasted less than one whole day, but it still clocked in as the biggest PSN outage since the infamous 2011 incident, in which the service was brought to its knees by a cyber attack for a whopping 23 days.
This latest outage knocked every part of the PSN offline. Users couldn't sign in, interact with any online features, or play online games. And in some cases, people couldn't even play their offline games, because if you haven't set your PS5 or PS4 as your 'primary' console, online verification is needed in order to access software.
In short, it was a mess, and PlayStation came under a lot of criticism for its lack of communication on the matter. Outside of some very brief "we're looking into it" posts on social media, official explanations were nonexistent.
It got to a point where many users were genuinely worried about the outage being caused by another attack — but again, everything was back up and running roughly 20 hours after the outage began.
When it was all over, PlayStation said that the outage was caused by "an operational issue".
And so we're left wondering... did the PSN outage actually impact your gaming plans over the weekend? Are you satisfied with Sony's PS Plus compensation? Vote in our polls, and then give us an honest opinion in the comments section below.
Did the most recent PSN outage impact your gaming plans? (2,561 votes)
- Yes, I couldn't play any of my games
- Yeah, I had made plans to play online with friends
- Yep, I wanted to play online games, but couldn't
- Kind of, but I just played offline games instead
- Not really, I just played games on a different console / PC
- No, I didn't have any gaming plans anyway
Are you satisfied with Sony's five-day PS Plus extension as compensation for the PSN outage? (2,288 votes)
- Yes, I'll happily take it
- Yeah, it's not a bad deal
- Eh, I suppose so
- Nah, I don't think it's good enough
- No, I don't even subscribe to PS Plus

Twas hilarious watching people lose their minds. It was one day lmao
People on Twitter act like the biggest babies over the compensation for a near 24 hour outage. "5 days??? NOT GOOD ENOUGH, GIVE ME A FREE GAME NOW." Lol
I had no license verification issues and don't play online so it was just another weekend for me, plenty of hours with KCD2. What a great game so far!
As I only play at the night on friday and saturday, only the former was impacted. I couldn't play the game I choose that day, but a disc based one worked, Star Wars Outlaws. By the time I could play on saturday, the service already returned.
About the PS+ extension, I would preffer free games like in 2011, but I'm not disapointed.
I played Civ 7 all day. Outage had zero effect on me. Singler player games FTW
Was a little annoying as I had time to play wilds beta, but I don’t mind missing it too much.
I just played some other games, not the end of the world.
I’m more annoyed about the 5 days, as I sub yearly around Black Friday, so I hope it hasn’t screwed me .
Couldn’t play the ps plus games j was playing due to fiddling the game share thing with my wife. Couldn’t play due to licensing. We also couldn’t change the settings as no online. Couldn’t play on each others due to no save transfer without online…could have played some of my few unsold disc games but didn’t want to.
Just didn’t game and started watching The Mentalist 🤷♂️ not a huge deal as it very rarely happens and it’s my own fault for trying to get to games for the price of one.
I think people that voted saying 5 days isn't good enough, need to have a wod with themselves 😅, didn't really bother me as its only a day. I spend the day starting to build a new pc and rest of it gaming on my pc , so gave my ps5 a rest
The big complaint with the "compensation" is there are plenty of gamers affected by the outage that aren't subscribed. So this compensation means nothing to them. I understand where they are coming from.
Also, would you accept/want free food from a restaurant that gave you shyte food to begin with?
Nope I went on my PS3 for a bit then PC
Nah not really. The only thing that was truly a shame was missing out on a day of claiming my polychromes in zzz but obviously I'll live. I spent most of it playing offline games or just watching vids. Crazy how many people don't have the setting on or have their ps5 set as the primary console to play their games offline. Should be one of the first things you do
I was actually away all weekend so it didn't have any effect on me..
I've mentioned it on other related articles but I don't want to be compensated as it will mess up my renewal dates.
So far my renewal date hasn't changed so fingers crossed it stays that way
No I was just playing KCD2. Which is so good btw.
Not me, was playing Metal Gear, Like a Dragon: Ishin and some other offline games during this time. Not denying the outage but I was playing games offline just fine
I didn't even notice until Saturday afternoon when the welcome hub thingy was FUBAR. I was still able to play Ender Lillies so it was all good for me.
Didn't notice it tbh except for when I tried to launch Crunchyroll. Maybe I would have played 40 minutes of Helldivers at some point, but I had;
I was too deep into KCD2 which had downloaded earlier in the week. Didn't even know there was a problem until I tried checking my trophies.
Was going to play Helldivers 2, but was perfectly fine doing something else for a day. People who are really bent out of shape seriously need to grow up and touch grass.
I'm in Malta on holiday. So 5 days for nowt.happy days.
Played offline and had a blast also physical baby. 🤣👍
Dead Island 2 Ultimate offline.
I wanted to play some Arma Reforger for the weekend but they still got ddossed. Gameservers got normal for this game after the downfall of the PS network. It's all good now.
Nope.i was playing monster Hunter world over the weekend i did see it at first but i did check sos.it didn't bother me.because i beat a lot of bosses by myself😊.word up son
I played Civ7 for most of the day and had to log out of some Apps because people were raging about the outage. I don't play online games but some of my friends who do reverted back to children, it seemed more like addiction than entertainment, like they were being denied their fix. If anything it all reminded me why I stopped playing online only games. I only felt sorry for the people who missed out on the Monster Hunter beta, there was too much anger and needless toxicity aimed at Sony for it.
For anyone that has some kind of mental health issues and rely on gaming, I'd understand the frustration, as for everyone else that lost their minds, it was hilarious to witness the outrage and how childish supposedly grown adults can behave over a day of no 'games'..
Not really. The world's not going to end because I capped my resin in Genshin.
It made absolutely no difference to me as every game I have installed is fully playable offline and if it had have affected me, I'd have just played my PC, Switch, Dreamcast or Quest
"And so we're left wondering... did the PSN outage actually impact your gaming plans over the weekend? Are you satisfied with Sony's PS Plus compensation?" I'm wondering if anybody at pushsquare actually paid any attention to the comments section over the weekend if they are asking this question.
I was mildly put out that couldn't sync trophies or look on PSN but I only play single player games so the outage didn't really disturb my gaming plans
The outrage was a bit ridiculous for sure. Was I planning to play a little SF6? Sure but I just continued my game in Persona 3 instead.
The Switch still worked. The PC still worked.
My PS5 has been turned off since like mid-December or something like that.
I feel bad for those who just wanted to have some gaming downtime and were affected by this outage over the weekend.
Watching the overreaction to this was hilarious. Yes it was a shame it went down for almost a day, a little frustrating to be sure, but it's certainly not the end of the world. Anyone who thought it was LITERALLY needs to go out and touch grass, reconnect with the world and reset their priorities.
@themightyant don't mention touching grass..its a trigger.
I couldn't enter a tournament on Saturday because of it but it wasn't that big of a deal. 5 days of PS+ is more than fair.
No. I noticed my trophies hadn't synced on Friday night, but didn't have any wider impact than that.
Didn't affect me in the slightest.
If it hadn't been for checking this site on Friday evening while playing Knack I might not have even noticed....
The 5 days is perfectly fine.
It did disrupt my plans but glad it was only one day.
Not like when my internet went down a few months ago for 9 days (on my week off) because some numpty decided to cut all the cables for the entire street when they were trimming their hedges.
I didn’t get any compensation from the service provider because it wasn’t their fault and there was a clause in the contract to that effect.
My gaming plan was to play Kingdom Come 2 and that's what i done as i just played it offline instead.
Not even a little, I just bought and set up my new gaming PC for MH Wilds 😁
PS5 is my preferred platform generally but I actually let my PS Plus lapse in December and used my MS Bucks to sub to Gamepass for the next few months to catch up on games there, so I was completely unaffected. I was playing Diablo IV season 7(guilty pleasure)
I doubt i’d have been particularly bothered either way though.
Funny enough I didn't notice anything until I saw everyone complaining online it's times like this that I'm glad that I buy my games physically.
I have an all digital library and I could still play Cyberpunk 2077 without any issues.
I was playing KCD 2 that day, so i welcome more 5 days at PS+.
Never had "Plans", I wasn't really gonna game (spent most of my weekend just chilling in bed watching YouTube on my phone, I actually took Wed-Fri off work sick and am still feeling it a bit now on Tue the following week)
When I BRIEFLY gamed I jumped onto my PS5 to turn it off fully (and whilst there I booted up all my recent games on the UI, Digital and Physical, and they all worked perfectly fine 🤷♂️) otherwise I just played some Midnight Club L.A. on my glorified Xbox 360 (that's the Xbox Series X 🤣) and a little Burnout 3 Takedown on my actual Xbox 360 having just got a proper (Official) HDD and a new MINTY controller off my friend a few weeks back (you actually need a proper Official HDD for the 360s BackCompat files to actually download/work which is so stupid... Wasn't told/wasn't advertised that the 500GB HDD I ordered ages back was a Chinese Knockoff 😒)
I started and finished the latest Momodora title over the weekend. Best gaming I’ve experienced since Astro Bot.
I played a lot of Infinity Nikki online on my PS5 no problem. Which meant I couldn’t vote in the first poll question. I think the 5 days is fine though. Not that I pay for online anyway.
I don’t think there’s enough discussion about how all of the big free to play games like Nikki and Fortnite somehow work just fine without having to pay to play online. Disney Speedstorm either though that’s not nearly as big.
Kinda. I wanted to buy Cyberpunk in the morning and couldn't until the evening...World keeps turning.
I only have physical games so I can play offline without issues. And I still managed to play some games of call of duty in the evening.
Five days is more then needed to be honest. They could have given just a day but they gave extra. People should be happy with it.
I didn’t vote in the poll. My answer would have been “ No, I was already planning on playing single player offline games anyways” Mafia: Definitive Edition is an amazing experience and game. Highly recommend.
Yes. Had to speak to the f*cking missus
Marvel Snap was down for a couple days in North America and they gave out the equivalent of hundreds of dollars worth of in-game currencies and cards as compensation. I would've happily taken $10 store credit at least to get Wasteland 3 complete edition.
I had no gaming plans as I have a kidney infection and didn't have the energy or concentration to game. So I effectively just gained five free days of PS Plus.
I was able to play RISE of the Ronin just fine. Couldn't play GT7
Didn't even notice! I don't do subscriptions or any game where online play is required (multiplayer, co-op, etc).
People lost one day of service and got 5 extra in return and People r still bitching like seriously
As I stated in a different article, I didn't even notice as I was too busy playing KCD2.
JCBP 🙏
Other than the lack of trophy viewing / syncing, I happily spent the time I wanted to play AC: Syndicate streaming to my PS Portal whilst watching the Six Nations games. Didn’t have any issues.
If I had, I have other games systems I’d have been content to use.
Five extra days of plus is okay.
@Drago201 People not only lost one day of service, lost one day of play too, and it was saturday.
Delayed me playing the Monster Hunter Wilds beta, but was too busy most of the weekend to really play. I’m fine with the five extra days. Could’ve given us nothing.
I just continued my offline play of wukong so it didn’t affect me. Didn’t even know there was a problem until I came to pushsquare!
@Northern_munkey Lol. I love how the notion of spending time outside can be a trigger to people. Probably the same people screaming obscenities and hate speech in a CoD lobby.
Been playing Astro Bot. Outage didn't bother me.
These polls aren’t really thought out. The option “I play offline games anyway so I didn’t even notice” isn’t available.
I my case I just planned to play Kingdom Come Deliverance 2, which I was able to play anyway, so no impact at all.
@Buckeye4Life2015 how are you finding civ7, I've read some really bad reviews and I have been put off from getting it ATM.
I thought it may. The main title I play on PS5 is MLB 24 (single player).
But ‘bought’ that one as an Essential monthly pick when available.
Figured would have to be logged in to work. But did anyway, to my pleasant surprise.
I primarily play on pc so it didn't affect me but I felt bad for everyone that had plans ruined due to the outage.
Ehh, kind of. I was planning on spending an unhealthy amount of time on the Wilds beta and ended up finishing up SMTVV instead.
@wildcat_kickz 👍🤣
@Areus physical or digital made absolutely zero difference in this case
"Kind of, but I just played offline games instead"
Wanted to complete a Gran Turismo 7 Weekly Challenge race or two but couldn't
"Eh, I suppose so"
Not bad, but not great either
I was battling my cold so I didn’t play much over the weekend anyway.
Only played a couple of games but even then it wasn’t for very long
I didn't mind the system going down, that happens. My daughter went ape-S because she couldn't play Roblox so I had to beat her severely (joke). I just wish there was more communication from Playstation, I hate when companies say "it's only affecting certain people" when it's clearly affecting everyone. I got in trouble at one company I worked for (a credit union) when our entire system went down for a week. I was instructed to tell people, who had been waiting on the phone for over 1 hour, that it only affected a small portion of people and I refused to lie to people. So it's like nails on a chalkboard seeing statements like that.
I play single player games so no issues here
Thankfully I had already downloaded Kcd2 and am playing that. What a masterpiece.
Didn't bother me tooo much but now that we have an excuse, this month's ps plus extra/premium better be good
I'd just rather know what actually happened. I've got 2 young kids, gaming is a luxury rn for me so I didn't even care. But 2011 was savage and people still remember.
nah , pc and my functional internet that i already paid for once had me covered for my online needs. 😂😂😂
I hadn't played PoE2 in a couple weeks and finally had an urge to play. Literally 10 mins into my session it went down. Didn't really have anything else I wanted to play that weekend.
Played Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 on PC during the Weekend. But I'll happily take the 5 days, thank you! 🙃
Rather no compensation tbh. That 5 days might take me past sales day to purchase my sub again
It didn’t impact my gaming plans. I just continued playing the game I was playing. most of the online features that I use were back up for me after 10 hours.
I've worked in customer service for 20+ years, specializing in de-escalation, so seeing the PSN go down was inconvenient, but I was sure Sony were working on a fix ASAP, losing my temper wouldn't have gained anything (it rarely ever does).
As for the extended PSN subscription time, Sony didn't have to do that, it's a goodwill gesture offered to their subscribers. I'm not going to look a gift horse in the mouth and irrationally demand more, so I'll take it.
Was actually more surprised that it took down Apple Music also. This kinda did annoy me a little bit because I was planning on Friday and Saturday music streaming and just hanging out at the house which I normally do for a couple hours once I start playing. And before anybody says well, you can just AirPlay the stuff. The audio quality is inferior and it doesn't AirPlay high resolution audio you have a need to have a direct connection for it from a proprietary app.
Going directly from a cell phone audio to an audio system just streams it but in Mobile quality and doesn't hit uncompressed, Atmos etc
I played a game installed on my console and enjoyed my time. I am not PS+ member but I think compensation is fine but I was not really affected.
@illegalmonkey the exact same thing happened to my friend he was playing online multiplayer to test try COD 6 zombies since it's the only on multiplayer game he has and wanted to see if it was worth paying for the PSN. 5 minutes in that took place. He never had a chance to lol. And skipped buying the one your subscription.
I was busy playing through New Super Mario U this last week. I didn't turn on my PS5 once during the whole thing — I still don't think I have.
I was totally triggered and had to arrange a meeting with my wellness coach, then i realised i was working all weekend.
It sucked not being able to use the Portal on Friday night. Just played Switch instead. I mostly play single player games so wasn’t an issue on Saturday when I had time to play PS5
My sub renewals have been all over the calendar since miscalculating the funds for the annual one last summer (Switch eShop sure can spoil you into forgetting about the extra costs that come with retail gift cards), so I didn't have an active one last weekend anyway. That puts the compensation beyond my interest zone as well but it still sounds pretty neat in regards to those affected.
@Chaosbros I'm thoroughly enjoying it. Honestly I feel like every time a new Civ games come out, everyone complains it's not like the last one. I wasn't sold on the Civ switching and ages at first, but it's grown on me after a few games.
The UI is poorly designed, no getting around that. Some things are hard to find and see. But that hasn't hindered my enjoyment too much. It's the #1 thing the devs have said they are working on fixing.
Overall I'd say it absolutely worth the money. If you like Civ, you're still gonna like this and play for hundreds of hours. But like literally any other game release, you can wait X months and get a better version for cheaper. I obviously didn't feel like waiting lol
No, because PC players complained enough so that Helldivers 2 doesn't require them to log in to a PSN account. Not so stupid now, are we? 😉
Showed how whiny and entitled some people are. Oh no you couldn’t play online games for 24 hours🙄
With playing games physically I'd say I wouldn't even have noticed it was ever down if not from coming here and finding out. 5 days compensation is more than enough in my opinion, plus the Wilds beta got extended which is a good thing.
Huh, I just watched Night Agent on Netflix instead, if there's another outage next weekend, the missus and I will binge the last of Cobra Kai
Kinda ruined my plan to play SF 6. But the outage gave me another reasons to turn on my PS3 and play GTA Vice City, Contra Shattered Soldier, Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2, Batman Arkham Origins, and Double Dragon Neon.
5 days compensation is fair i think. But i check my PS+ Essential expiration date and i don't see they extend it. Did Sony lies or it only for US and EU players?
@PuppetMaster I'm from the UK and they haven't extended mine yet either, maybe it's being done at a certain date.
It reduced my Saturday time with Helldivers 2 but increased it with Phantom Brave The Lost Hero. Shrugs So it had an impact but not a negative one.
There was no correct answer for me to chose from. I was not affected because all of my gameplay/console use was playing a game offline as I had planned to on my PS4.
It was kinda annoying that the game I was playing (Temtem) just gave a black screen and no indication that it was a PSN outage. So I reinstalled the game a few times and got on with other games.
I'd planned a weekend of Rivals with a mate, as we rarely get the chance to play together, so it was a little unfortunate. Made worse due to the fact I gameshare with my spawn, so my ps5 was essentially bricked.
But, it was a day... not the end of the world. What definitely needs addressing is Sony's godawful communication and gaming outlets all too quick to jump on the crucification bandwagon. Many, many gamers reacted pathetically and not nearly enough articles have adequately called them out on it.
@rjejr probably because they're sh1t and no-one cares tbf
I think that your options missed some variations - I wanted to download software; or it locked me out of my non-primary console. We didn't get affected for online gaming, but my kids weren't able to play some games (because their accounts weren't authenticating), and they couldn't download games they wanted to play. So an embuggerance more so than anything.
@Shepherd_Tallon How is No Rest for the Wicked? I was interested in that but I completely forgot the name of it until I saw your comment. Can't remember when the PS5 release is supposed to be.
This normally wouldn't have bothered me BUT, my fiance and kid are on vacation from this past friday until tomorrow. I was waiting for WEEKS to be alone for a weekend and finally have a chance to tackle some backlog without interruption. I get off work Friday, 10 minutes later PSN goes down! Thank god they got it up mostly on Saturday so I still had a bit of weekend to enjoy, but the timing couldn't have been worse!
All i wanna know is…. Did we break the comment record? 😁
Usually I’m pretty relaxed about gaming barring bad corporate decisions, but I will happily use the touch grass argument here. Less than 24 hours of down time, if that’s enough to affect your general happiness then I don’t know what to say.
Five days of free subscription time is massive considering the short period it was down.
No issues here I didn't even realize it was down until I saw it posted here. This weekend was finishing TLoU 1 again, Left Behind and finally starting TLoU part 2 so had no need to be online.
I was actually able to play my current game just fine, playing through The Plucky Squire. I’m hooked on it lol. I also played on my Steam Deck a bit.
My friends and I were planning to play the monster hunter beta that day. It's the only time of the week that we all have time to play together. Did it absolutely ruin my day? No...but it sure was annoying to have that happen even after we gave Sony more money for subscriptions.
Seems a lot of people in the comments didn't have any issues, yet that wasn't an option.
I know it can be hard to come up with survey options, so i would like to submit
Infinity Nikki worked (almost) perfectly. I was fine.
@pyrrhic_victory I was waiting for the PS5 release too (and I'll probably still get it on PS5 tbh), but figured I'd try it in Early Access.
It's good! I don't want to talk it up too much for fear of over hyping it, but I've enjoyed the first few hours of it. It's giving me the same vibes I had the first time I played Demon's Souls back on the PS3 in a way that few souls likes have been able to.
It's not as difficult though. Not yet at least.
The animations and settings are gorgeous to look at too, and the voice acting in the early cutscenes was unexpectedly good.
The Monster Hunter Wilds beta was the biggest thing I wanted to play. Eventually I was able to, so it wasn’t a huge deal. One other odd thing I noticed during the PSN outage was that my Pawn didn’t show up when I logged into Dragon’s Dogma 2.
My answer wasn't on there. It didn't ruin a thing. I was playing my digital copy of Elden Ring all weekend. No issues. Thanks for skewing the results tho.
The only thing it affected for me was my posture, as it's a big shrug to all those questions.
It actually helped me. Finally got that much closer to my God Of War: Ragnarok platinum and platinumed Streets Of Rage 4. Also tried out some other games in my collection I’ve yet to play. If PSN didn’t go down I’d have been playing ESO all weekend.
@Shepherd_Tallon That's good to hear. I really like the art style - the Ori series was amazing - but I'm not really into soulslikes.
@Nepp67
I mostly agree with you, but I can understand people asking for 7 days, only because the outage affected some who really only get chance to game at the weekend.
If the service hadnt impacted a weekend I would have thought 5 days was very decent.
No horse in this race - I dont really play online games, so only had fairly minimal disruption.
I was on Kingdom Come 2 pretty much all of the outage and no issues whatsoever, AND I'm all digital for those disc owners who weirdly seem to think that digital gamers were left high and dry by this. I didn't even notice!
And Kingdom Come? Wow. Long time since I've bought a game on launch, and even longer since I've been up to the early hours every day playing it.
I got locked out because my primary PS5 is in my daughter's room at her mom's house. I really only game on my PS5, but I went and found something else to do, no biggy. For myself, it's just a reminder of how ridiculously arbitrary family sharing is on PlayStations, it's so silly. As for the compensation, it doesn't really make a difference to me. My essential plan has been on auto renew for so many years. I suppose my credit card will just auto charge five days later. And I have a million "free" games from essential I don't have time play, what would another one get me? shrug
I wasn't able to play my beloved COD but it was nice to crack into Space Marines 2 instead. The PS plus extension is odd, I'll never notice the difference considering I pay for the whole year at once.
Played Trails Through Daybreak II just fine. Wouldn't have even known anything was down if the internet didn't go crazy about it lol.
It didn't really ruin my gaming plans as I wasn't really playing that many online games. Only the two gachas (Star Rail and ZZZ) and despite the issues, I managed to get in just fine and do my dailies.
@pyrrhic_victory I would say wait and see for yourself before you commit. It has a lot of charm, but I personally would put it in the same ballpark as the FromSoftware games.
It has a lot more narrative though.
I played Castlevania Portrait of Ruin. If the PSN had been up, I would've played Castlevania Portrait of Ruin. It was from another of my accounts (the collection was cheaper on the Japanese store), but both accounts have my PS5 as a primary console.
I assumed Infinity Nikki wasn't going to work (though it sounds like it would've), so I tapped a few buttons on my phone to spend my energy.
I think a lot of the backlash is valid. Especially around things like the disc drive requiring the authentication server to pair, or people who set aside time in their busy schedules to play or let their children play something. It was only a day though, so it's more of a wake-up call that things will be a bit worse than last time if the network gets 2011ed again.
It was funny seeing people post the screenshot of what it says when you try to launch a game without offline play enabled, including the explanation of how to enable it. Not that they could enable it without the PSN, but at least the reason is clear.
People whine so hard about outages. They happen. Do something else to entertain yourself! It’s not the end of the world!! 🙄
My weekend starts today and I'm learning to get Brutal Doom up and running on my Anbernic. Good stuff. The outage didn't affect me much. I was working or I played offline.
It is reasonable for players to "overreact." It may seem petty to whine over single day of no access to Playstation Network, but the thing is many players pay for Playstation Plus so they are most certainly entitled to Sony's services as agreed to in their TOS.
To put in another way, if my internet goes out due to a fault by my provider; I am getting on that phone with a complaint and I'll be obnoxiosly rude if need be cause I pay for monthly dervice.
I heard about Helldivers 2 getting a PS5 PRO patch so I was going to play that but ended up playing Blasphemous instead and the outage was only for one day so the answer is not really
Welcome to the outside world Gamers is what I was thinking!! 🤪😂🤣💖🤣😆
Catastrophic. My SMTV:V disc didn't even noticed that the network was down. 11/10 GOTY game by the way, probably one of the best of the decade.
Honestly, I was playing Eiyuden on Xbox. 😅
Should be an option in the poll for "No, I only play offline games". Didn't effect me at all, happily completed Plague Tale Requiem
I second @SeanOhOgain
Saying it "kind of" ruined my plans is plain untrue, as it was never my plan to play anything but offline (and rarely is). Still, it was the one I picked
Nope. I game on Series X, PC, and Switch.
The only way it would have messed with my weekend was if id wanted to play the GT7 weekly races (which id done on Friday), that the closest i come to online gaming
I wasn't too put out by this outage, as I was out most of the weekend. If I did have gaming plans, I have an Xbox and a steam deck so would have had a backup
I'm kinda lucky to have plenty of gaming distortions at hand, should anything like that happen at any time...you know...family, real life & stuff...
Nah. I enjoyed the double XP weekend on CoD over on my Series X
Man u guys are really milking this story, huh? It was less then one day, what's the big deal?
The network went down for less than one day, Sony give people five days and people complain
Sony should have just said ooops my bad and given these entitied people absolutely nothing
I've seen comments saying that they should have given everyone a free game......you what? Why? It was 20 hours lol
Touch grass
No option for playing an offline game anyway so didn't matter 🤷♂️ The compensation is rubbish but as it did not interrupt my game time I ain't complaining.
Nope, I don't buy any games that require online connection or a required download... same goes for digital games. I make sure the game is playable and beatable with 0% connectivity before I buy, so I was able to pop that disc in and play.
I just went to playing games from disc so no biggie. The only one I wanted a few hours on was Fallout 4 that I've got into recently which I picked up with Skyrim on some bargain bin PSN deal years ago which was totally mullered by the network being down.
Definitely staying with physical discs for as long as possible.
I mostly play offline single player games, so I wasn't bothered. But I know several people who were super angry.
What does bother me though, is how easily consumers can lose access to the services they pay(ed) for. Not only to online play, but also to more and more single player games that require online access.
I don't think the 5 days of free Plus is good enough. It's a start. Sony should make a public pledge to do better, explain how they plan on doing this and to be more transparent towards customers, should issue's arise in the future.
It didn't really impact me to be honest because I don't play multiplayer games. If anything, adding the five days extra of PS Plus will impact me more because presumably that will change my renew date by five days which is annoying.
The compensation is cr@p to anyone who has remained persistently subscribed to the service since its inception. It is literally completely irrelevant.
However, I just played another console, so it's no big deal to me and I can't be bothered to feel much about it at all..
Not great is it a bit pathetic from sony especially when people cant even play there single player games either it's not even on my subscription yet either its says nothing about the 5 days they o me ?
And this is why I love the PushSquare community! Just a whole bunch of common sense!
People on social media love a good moan. At the end of the day if you're not game sharing then your digital games would still work. Yes obviously online games wouldn't work but what's one night?
I personally only really game twice a week and one of these nights was impacted by the down time... but there is far more to life than to worry about one evening off gaming.
The only way I even knew it was down was from the PushSquare articles.
Not personally because I was working but it’s still a joke for those who weren’t
No. I was too busy having sex with your mum
my son wanted to play weekend league on fifa... which usually gets him a bit stressed, so in a way it worked out...
would prefer if sony found a different way of compensatiing.. not that 5 days isn't worth 'enough' but more that you don't really notice... (and lots of kids don;t pay by themselfs ofcourse), so something else. (çhoose any dlc worth up to 5 quid ) or something would feel more like something..
i just played some dave the diver on the switch
On PC all weekend
Just like a decade ago when it was down for a month, I didn't know until I read about it online!! There's a reason I stick to discs whenever possible!! Don't remember what I was playing back then, but continued my DQIII playthrough all weekend with no problem!
Wheres the option
No as i don't play annoying MP games
That's my choice.
People couldn't play online for a day , oh boo hoo, big deal.
We need to have a serious talk about how people were capitalizing on this by lying about the reason why it went down, claiming there was no way to play single player games offline, and screaming bloody murder once it was done.
There have been stuff such as DDoS attacks in this industry that have lasted longer and quite frankly, we moved on. Of course the issue this time is different and more on Sony but it's far from their worst situation. That would be when they got hacked in 2011. It was so bad that their compensation was something like: 3-6 months PS plus, 2 out of 13 or so games for free, a free theme, some service extensions if you could prove it was inaccessible for you, up to $2500 in reimbursement if your data was stolen, and you could even cancel your account and get your PSN wallet balance refunded if you didn't trust them after the incident. All that not including the public apology which happened at E3 and for the presses. I even heard they had food trucks and were giving out drinks for the people at E3.
This isn't nearly as crazy as that though. None of your personal data leaked, no outage for nearly a month... so some extra days of online service which was down makes sense.
Furthermore, the hypocrisy over the false claims that these guys have no games or absolutely everyone prefers single player games over multiplayer were exposed pretty badly. It didn't even take a quarter of a day before people were complaining and uploading videos like it was the worst thing on earth with instant assumptions... and had they actually preferred single player experiences, they would have them for scenarios like this. Its so bad that Gamestop is roasting them and even then you should have the loophole playing single player games you downloaded digitally. So many people got caught lacking. Even I'm curious to know how much physical game sales improved yesterday.
Controversies aside, I can respect the disappointment for those with big organized multiplayer plans, people who genuinely don't have a lot of time, just got in, etc... I know I'm ranting but you don't deserve to have your plans ruined.
I missed out on Skull-and-Bones double Nian chests event for the whole day it was down, it was the only time the event was active.
I would have put them in the warehouse with the other 50 I have already! 🤣
I had such a busy week and could not play my playstation and was looking forward to friday night to play the new Destiny 2 dungeon. I played a few other modes and playstation went down i couldn't even play rubbish trophy hunter games.
@Buckeye4Life2015 Thanks for the reply I am relieved to hear that it's not as bad as it's being made out to be. I will be getting it now for sure, looking forward to it.
@SSaunders1122 Exactly the same for me, including the game. It didn't really affect me beyond not having other players' messages warning me about the imps hiding around the corners in the various catacombs I visited. After getting surprised a few times, I realized I had been relying on those messages and started being more careful.
@Deljo You cared enough to reply though so... 🤷♂️
Was away from home for the weekend, was gonna use remote play from my steam deck but couldn't because the outage. The compensation being only for ps+ subscribers kinda sucks because they weren't the only ones affected
