The DualSense Edge controller is out now, priced at a premium $199.99 / £209.99. This is Sony's official 'pro' controller, boasting a range of new and improved features over the standard PS5 pad. PlayStation fans had been asking the Japanese giant to make its own pro controller for years, but now that it's finally arrived, are you actually going to buy one?
We were left impressed by the pad in our DualSense Edge hardware review, but we also make it clear that the price tag will be the biggest sticking point for most potential buyers. Unless you're a decidedly hardcore player, premium controllers will probably always be a tough sell — and it's no different for the Edge.
So, have you grabbed a DualSense Edge for yourself? Let us know in our polls, and then explain yourself in the comments section below.

I'll get this when it's $20 in a Walmart bargain bin in 2035.
"Have you bought a 'pro' controller before?"
Well I have bought controllers that have "Pro" in their name: the Wii U Pro Controller and Switch Pro Controller
A “pro” controller is essential for me due to a hand and thumb injury, so I’ve had a scuff since they launched the PS5 variant. Once that eventually dies, I’ll definitely have a go at one of these.
Interesting that, as of now, "have you bought a pro controller before" has 31% with some form of yes, while "did you buy the edge" has 30% with variations of yes or undecided.
Sounds like there's a specific population that buys pro controllers, and those of us who haven't still aren't interested.
If a pro controller was a 50% premium, I'd be tempted. At roughly a 200% premium, I'm not.
@RobN pretty much the same here. The price is just too high for this
No chance. For the same sort of money you could get an Xbox Series S....... I know which I'd rather have
Just for context I own a PS5 and an Xbox series X (and a Switch for good measure). I'm simply pointing out that it's a ridiculously expensive control pad
I'm gonna buy these just because of the stick drift issues.
I’ve developed some pain from the DualSense triggers (FFXIV requires lots of double pulls of the triggers) so I’ll probably pick up the Edge in the near future. The paddles and shortened trigger pools would be great to have
I fell in love with the back paddle attachment for the PS4 controllers, but $200 is not worth it. I'd much rather have some third party attachment for $50 tops.
No interest at that price, even the £70 I just spent getting a new Switch Pro controller felt high for a controller 😂
@Member_the_game I don't want one of these either but I can't say your Series S point makes sense. You'd rather waste £200 on something which a worse version of something you've already got (a Series S compared to Series X) than a better version of something you already have (Dualsense Pro compared to Dualsense)?
$200 for a marginally better (and marginally worse) version of a controller I already don't enjoy using?
No no, Hell no.
@Nepp67 These aren't using the drift-proof hall effect sensors, they're the exact same sticks that the standard Dualsense is using, so these will drift eventually, too...except now you have the option to buy replacement stick modules directly from Sony for a substantial markup!
@Matroska
I was speaking hypothetically in a world where I didn't already own a Series X
The reason I mentioned owning both the PS5 and a series X was in case someone thought I was an Xbox fan boy bashing PlayStation
I bought one, I wear it on a huge gold chain around my neck
@mariomaster96 LMAO exactly, but they're more regular controllers than anything else.
No.im not buying it.you can buy 2 brand new dual sense controllers.plus couple of games with 200$.word up son
@Member_the_game Oh okay, yeah that's fair enough. Yeah same here.
I bought the Xbox Elite controller & had it fall apart within months so I won't be paying that kind of money again even for my beloved PS5.
I've really got to question what I'm doing with my life when I've bought a piece of PS hardware that only 13% of even Push Square commenters bought....
Eh, who am I kidding, I also bought Vita....
@TrickyDicky99
I've 2 launch day controllers and regularly have them plugged into a speaker when I'm playing on a monitor, I've never had that problem with either of them. Maybe I'm just lucky.
Why? Nothing to gain, unless you like even less battery life out of a controller.
I’ll just post that $200 towards a PSVR2 and call it good.
@StrawberryPink I loved that attachment so much! Why can't they just release another one of them for the DualSense!
If the controller was like a 100 quid I'd buy one but with VR2 on the way there's just no way to justify it when it's the 1/3 of the cost of that!
Why does everyone feel that this controller is not worth the price? It is very similar in price to a Scuff controller that is not even made by Sony.
I have a genuine question: Without changing the price what would need to change with the controller to have those that would never buy one consider a purchase?
I mean, would we use these features on a $70 controller or would they be unnecessary for most at ANY price?
I guess I'm trying to understand why people have to say how they would never pay that much for a controller when there are people out there buying $200 keyboards because they make a neat clicky noise and have swappable keys.
Edge is not worth the price one bit...
If only Victrix Pro BFG for PS5 had haptics... the ability to switch from 4 buttons to 6 buttons is a very useful option to have.
That price is ridiculous for something that has even less battery capacity than normal version while Sony knows, it is main issue. I have tested controllers on my own and results are:
(after full charge, DS3 3 pieces, DS4 4 pieces, DS 4 pieces)
DualShock 3
playing - 12 hours
idle - almost 2 days
hold - over 6 months
DualShock 4
playing - 8 hours
idle - more than 1 day
hold - over 6 months
DualSense
playing - 5 hours (after 2-3 hours says baterry low)
idle - 8 hours (after 3-4 hours says battery low)
hold - around month
They completely messed up the pre-order deal of physically getting it today on launch day for a lot of people, including me. The order screen said preparing for dispatch until 8pm this evening, before changing to shipped. DPD then notified me it will be tomorrow evening when I get it. Going by reddit, it was a widespread similar story. Sony really dropped the ball on this one. Disappointing.
I just want the back-buttons 😑
Have absolutely no interest in a pro controller . Mebe if it dropped to like 80/90 but even then the ps5 regular controller last longer.
I'd love one, but I can't justify spending that unfortunately. You can guarantee something would fall off my car the day after I bought it.
Why anyone would pay £210 for this is beyond me. Ripoff.
@grapetrap because £210 for bits of plastic is a total ripoff. If someone wants one. Good for them. But you can't compare, say a single banker yuppy with a fancy keyboard to the millions of PlayStation fans. It's not 'premium' as the stick drift will still be an issue and it really is an issue. Also less battery life? Honestly who's seeing that and shouting 'I'm in!' Total cash grab from $ony. £70 games, hardly any storage on the main console and now £210 for a slightly better version of an imo pretty bad controller.
No option for my situation. Receiving one as a gift.
I want it but u got a energy bill that is €900 a month so I have other priorities. 😂
For that kinda money I rather buy a steering wheel for racing games
Ridiculous price.
At £150 it'd still be too expensive.
I won't buy a edge until.the price comes down. Im not.paying another 100 for.a short battery life with 2 extra button on it. I really don't see why it costs so much.
It is not for everyone, but for me as someone who plays on pc and can configure my setting on a pc. This is a plus on the controller i got it does what i want. To configure the sticks and buttons on the ps5
@n1n0dan There are many, many controllers that are vastly superior to the Dualsense Edge, have software suites that allow you to remap and customize every single button/stick/trigger, cost a fraction of what Sony is asking, and some of them even work flawlessly on multiple platforms.
No interest at all. I'd never use any of the functions beyond the regular one.
Yes! And thus far totally worth it. Hopefully a all black model comes soon!!
For 210 quid no way. An people think PSVR2 is expensive. This is truly a rip off and I wouldn't be surprise if Sony making 150 quid per controller.
@Flaming_Kaiser Once energy prices return to normal I will feel rich! I will still technically poor but I will feel rich!
@grapetrap
You are spot on. I've owned a scuf for ps4 and two dualsense controllers with extremerate paddles on the back. I just received the dualsense edge today after pre-ordering.
The dualsense edge is an incredible product and the price is justified.
The scuf got slow turn in the right joy stick within one year.
The extremerate attachment has worked well, but I had to order a set of metal paddles since the plastic ones kept breaking. The only issue is it wasn't very comfortable to hold for long periods of time.
The edge has slimmer grips that are rounded at the bottom. This has made it so I don't have to strain my hand at all.
All in all, if you like FPS games, this is a product I would highly recommend.
I’ve only ever bought the Wii U and Switch Pro controllers.
I only bought the Switch one because the analog sticks that come with Switch OOTB are a bit loose for my tastes and hard to get those finer movements for Mario Odyssey and Breath of the Wild in particular. Just felt a little too wild or unwieldy. Bought it for Wii U because I liked the traditional feel of it.
Won’t ever be buying the PS one for two reasons: price (wooof) and I don’t have a single problem with the stock one.
"Did i go broke"? nope
No interest in this at all. I don't play FPS on my PS5, mostly RPGs and story driven games like Horizon. No need for a pro controller for that.
I have 3 normal Dual Sense controllers; 2 for my PS5 (so I always have one charged when one is empty) and I use one for PC.
I did have two of the XBox Elite controllers, for the Xbox One X.
These were good, but the rubber that covered the handles started to peel away eventually.
I think these were about £130 each, at the time.
But paying over £200 for one single joypad does seem excessive, to put it mildly.
Especially when I am already perfectly happy the DualSense controllers as they are.
This would be a "if money was no issue" purchase for me. I don't particularly like the gloss panel look they've gone for, the battery life is worse and I can't see it having a substantial impact on how I play, but if money wasn't an issue, sure, why not.
Unfortunately money is an issue. No so much that I can't heat or eat, we are comfortable thankfully, but enough that I'd expect divorce papers for dropping £200 on a controller.
Not until Sony realise that battery life should be increasing, not decreasing...
I don't normally have a problem paying a higher price, for a higher quality product; but the price difference from a regular DualSense controller just doesn't make much sense to me. I am not a competitive gamer though; so maybe it makes enough of a difference at that level?
Don't like the glossy look, the battery life and the value I get for this price. No buy for now.
I still use my single launch day controller with out any issues. I have the Sony charger cradle so my controller is always full charge when I pick it up. I have zero need or want for a $200 controller when the one I have works fine for me.
I just want a back button to assign sprint too. I hate clicking L3 to run.
@knowles2 Same here can't wait to see it go down it will never be as cheap as it was but near the old prices would be nice i would even be happy with prices at 50% extra with these rates.
Let me see:
or
get my second Elite with four back paddles, 10x the battery life for €136 (in 5 installments on amazon)
Yeah, Sony, you can go Facebook yourself.
They pretty much are selling a dual sense with a back button attachment (ok, ok, they made the sticks replaceable). Nope. Nothing there for me and I am annoyed by all the "cool" new features of the regular dual sense, they are so tiring and annoying in almost all games except in Returnal and AstroWhatsTheGameNameThing.
I have zero interest in the DualSense Edge Controller.
Only pro controllers I've ever bought were for Wii U and Switch.
Also I only own one standard controller currently, but do plan to buy at least one more.
I own an XBox Elite Series 2 controller and I'm getting a DualSense Edge to accompany it. I currently however own neither of the consoles but I use both of them for my monster PC.
Wound up getting one, even though there were reasons why I shouldn't. At a point in life where I can get things I want 'just because I want to'
Needed a 2nd controller anyway. Ordered on a Wednesday and it arrived Friday.
Feels really good in the hands...love the weight and balance of it. The thumb pads are something I didn't know I wanted, lol. Didn't expect to like them as much as I do. Switching back to the non-Edge may be unpleasant.
The two back buttons magnetically and satisfyingly click into place. Remapping the PS menu is something I've looked forward to for a long time. That button has always frustrated me! It's so small and recessed to boot.
The whole package screams quality and forethought.
Battery life is the main thing it gets knocked for. Shouldn't apply in my case. I've never drained any controller in one sitting. If this one dies on me I have the option of plugging in with the super long braided cord or swapping over to my original DualSense.
Will report back after I spend more time with it.
