It's almost surreal to think that a series like Armored Core is currently one of the biggest talking points in gaming, but that's the power of modern FromSoftware. The latest game in the long-running mecha series — it's only been a ten-year hiatus! — is out now on PS5 and PS4, but will you be adding to the hype? As always, we want to know.
Armored Core 6 has been enjoying some solid reviews, and we gave it a very respectable 7/10 in our Armored Core 6 PS5 review. "Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon admirably weds satisfying combat with extensive mech customisation, with short missions letting you quickly experiment with new ideas and builds," we wrote.
If you happen to be an Armored Core fan, this one's been a long time coming — but will you be crunching metal this weekend? Vote in our polls, and then tell us all about your plans in the comments section below.

Having never played AC, it’s not high on my list of games to buy. I do plan to get it at some point but there’s other games I’d rather be playing now, so I am.
I think I remember my older brother and his friend playing one of the older Armored Core games back in the early-mid 2000's. It's a franchise I don't have a ton of interest in but I'm glad fans have a new release to play, and by FromSoft.
It’s a FromSoftware game, so I know straight away it will be too difficult for me 😂
This will be my first foray into the series. I’m very much expecting it to be its own thing, as it should be being a well established franchise. Rapid fire mission structure, deep customization and tight, versatile and challenging combat sounds pretty great though!
It's my first time delving into the series and I'm only a few hours in but I'm absolutely loving it. I had it pre-ordered and I'm not regretting this purchase one bit.
I was interested until I read that it had no difficulty options and the game is quite challenging. It went from wait for a sale to not buying at all.
I may give it a try one day if it ever comes to playstation plus.
Not yet but i will get it someday.from software games are excellent.armored core 6 fires of rubicon looks really good.word up son
Sad the poll shows there is very little love for this fromsoft franchise. I've been playing it since last night and am LOVING IT
Massive Soulsborne fan, but not going to buy Armored Core just yet, I'll wait for sale in 6 months or so, as I'm not 100% its my bag, but at the same time I trust Fromsoftware with my money whatever they make at this point!
I want to but I don't have the time.
Loving it so far; it's not a Souls game that's for damn sure. Its straightforward, mission-based structure is a nice change of pace, though the lack of exploration is leaving me wanting somewhat.
I'm only on chapter 2 but it's a lot of fun. Probably give it an 8 right now.
I'm trying to focus on Trails of Azure(I know I've been slow trying to finish it. I blame SF6) but after that if I can finish it before late September I will pick it up then. If I can't finish that in time then you can guarantee I will get it on Black Friday!
@UltimateOtaku91 I will say that the difficulty is a significant step down from the likes of DS and Sekiro; you can pretty much just brute force your way through most situations with the right (tanky) build. PowerPyx has a great guide on what to equip for maximum survivability.
Don't have much time to play, and Starfield is around the corner. I wont have time to play anything for months. So not buying it unless I see it on a big sale.
I loved Bloodborne, Dark Souls 3 and Elden Ring but Mechs have zero to me. Plus with AC Mirage, Spider-Man 2 and Starfield I am way too busy for anything else.
I hope everyone else has a blast playing it though.
Day 1 because From can do no wrong in my eyes. Never actually played the series before as Dark Souls was my first From game and so far i'm loving it, last mission i done was against this insanely huge roaming fortress thing and scale was jaw dropping.
@PenguinLtd Speaking as someone whose first AC is this one i think From have done a great job of easing new players in. Unlike the Souls games they do a great job of explaining everything as well not throwing you in the deep end, i feel its very beginner friendly.
I never played Armored Core, but knowing its structure is akin to Daemon X Machina, which I regretted buying, I'm just not really interested in the overall structure and gameplay loop.
If anything, maybe I'll buy it a year or 2 down the line if general consensus remains so positive. I feel as though a lot of the hype is simply for a new From Software game.
I was fully intending to buy this day one, but I got a Nintendo Switch and bought a bunch of games on that so I'm going to beat them first. I love my ps5 and have been with Sony since PS1 but the portability and the fact that my girlfriend's kids have Switches means I'm not really on the playstation much at the moment. I'll definitely get round to armoured core at some point but I'm not in any hurry.
I have to say I’ve been playing this extensively today (just cleared chapter 1) and I’ve got NO IDEA what game Liam was playing for his review. The game looks STUNNING! The story is really good and the gameplay is so addictive I’ve been replaying every mission after I clear it just to try and improve my mission rank.
Shame the pushsquare community are so put off by Liam’s review
I want to so bad but I'm terrified of the learning curve. The last AC that came out got too difficult for me after a few hours so I had to stop before I tossed my controller at the TV. I'm a pleb who aims for "story mode" setting in difficulty.
Mechs don’t really do it for me and hearing the environments are underwhelming is a big turnoff for me.
Fully planned to buy it day 1 but sadly had a few outlays so it will have to wait a few weeks
I'll get it eventually but i just dont have the time to invest in it for a while yet. Once d4,lies of p and lords of the fallen have run their course i'll be on it.
@OmegaStriver the game looks INSANE! Liam’s whole thing of “extremely dull environments” is way off I promise you. Just read any other review. The game looks AMAZING
Had it pre ordered but cancelled. Decided to wait for a black Friday or boxing day sale. Which I think I’m gonna do for all the major releases this year outside of Spider-Man and maybe Baldur’s gate.
This is next on my list after I'm done beating Atlas Fallen
Pre-ordered it in may when Bamco finally fixed their website. Pausing BG3 to play it.
No. Is that all? So can I go now?
Hell no. I still recall how awful AC4 was way back on PS3.
@ArmoredMore Glad someone else is so on board with this. This game just trims the fat: no cutscene bullsh*t, no hand-holding, no time wasting - looking at you most AAA games (like Assassin's Creed et al) - and it's just a tonne of FUN. Environments are beautiful and haunting. And IT'S NOT THAT HARD. Don't understand why people don't read around more; don't make a conclusion based on one person's opinion.
I’m too into FF16 atm. I think The Crew Motorfest will be my next purchase anyhoo
Got it today after finally beating FFXVI last night (AMAZING!) but this will be my first AC game. I got into FromSoft's games last year and have platinumed Bloodborne, Demon's Souls, and Elden Ring since. Not sure how well it'll go but I'm excited to find out.
@JB_Whiting it looks amazing, right? The fire/explosions are possibly the best I’ve ever seen in a game. Every time I fire my grenade launcher I get weirdly excited for the massive explosion that’s about to come.
Wow, surprising poll! More niche than I expected. Pre-ordered the Collector’s Edition over here… 🔥🔥🔥
It's high on the list, but the current free period with ffxi takes precedence. I'm wrapping up the RoV missions this weekend hopefully making good headway with the Voracious Resurgence stuff before Starfield. AC6 will be an October game for me
Nope. Just not into mech games at all.
@ArmoredMore you're an armoured core fan, it's a game made for you, of course you like it 😅😅😅 and that is great.
But... there's a difference between a well made niche game and a great game that will break into the mainstream regardless, and review sites tend to focus on what the larger proportion of people would think playing the game, in order to fairly recommend things, and also go along with their own personal opinion. Niche means there will be more cases of reviewers just not being into it.
It looks bland as to me too, but that doesn't mean it's not a graphical achievement. It's more just the vibe these types of settings give off.
There's no game I have less interest in this year, mechs just seem tediously boring to me, just like muscly space marines, but perhaps mechs have a touch more personality 😆 but I'm happy to be won round eventually, or at least try it if it's in a sub one day. It's the kind of game I'll watch 10 minutes on YouTube just to see what it's like and then forget about forever otherwise.
@Ravix that doesn’t make any sense. There’s lots of armored core games I don’t like bro, trust me 😅
@Ravix you shouldn’t limit yourself so much. Give it a try!
@ArmoredMore oh, I'm way more open to trying games I'd never have considered before, now more than ever. And I'm always happy to be wrong 😅
But mechs and space marine type stuff really, really, really make me cringe, especially if theres no real depth or story element behind everything (or no Snake & Big Boss) 😆
but, like I say, I'd maybe try this free with PS Plus, and I might check out a YouTube playthrough just to see what it's actually like.
The lastest AC I played from PS4 and I'm not into this game too much. Maybe saleoff and I will buy for exp this new AC.
@Ravix Yeah if you’re a massive Metal Gear fan and you won’t give AC a try based on the theme and what you just said then I don’t really know what to tell you… you can’t be saved 😂
Too many games ahead of it on my priority list. Maybe someday I will give it a try.
Too many games coming out soon that I can’t spend money on a game I’m not 100% sold on. Spider-Man 2, LAD Gaiden, P5T, ACM, etc. The upcoming release schedule makes budgeting extremely rough
I haven't played an Armored Core game in years! Me and friends would stay up late coming up with different configurations for missions, it was a lot of fun.
I'm going to be buying this when I can.
Zero interest in this IP, unfortunately, even if it says From Software on it.
Give me a game with guns or swords and shields anytime, but driving big robots around is not my thing.
I'm partially interested, but I'll wait for it to show up on ps plus. I assume it's really difficult. Probably get permanently stuck on the 2nd boss type of situation. So it would just frustrate me to spend money on it.
@LazyLombax it's funny the game has From's quality animations and combat but I do find the constant radio chatter very PSX era. Gotta say Push got the review spot on.
@sentiententity not too bad difficulty wise. Generous checkpoints and medkits. Much easier than Dark Souls, Sekiro et al.
I love FromSoftware but I wasn’t interested in this game in the slightest. After watching Easy Allies’ review, along with the high praise it’s been receiving, I purchased it. I’m not sure when I’ll play it, but I’m looking forward to it when I do!
I played Armored Core 4 on the PS3 back in 2008. It just didn't click with me. The missions were too short and I didn't enjoy the gameplay at all. I quickly moved onto other games and I've only thought about what happened 15 years ago recently due to all the coverage AC6 is getting.
At the time, I wasn't even aware that FromSoftware was the developer. It's quite astonishing what FromSoftware has achieved in that 15 year period.
When it comes to mech-combat, I'm firmly in the BattleTech and MechWarrior camp.
I pre-ordered the game with a discount. I played two previous games and enjoyed; besides, every aspect in this game seems much better.
This series is videogames being videogames, no political agendas or drama. You just have to enter a giant mech and blow up stuff. It's really fun.
Too much of a backlog, still playing Diablo IV and waiting for Starfield release, which will probably be the only game I will play for a foreseeable future...
Will eventually pick it up second hand/on a sale one day...
@Johnnycide on Switch you could try Daemon X Machina, very similar game...I recall is made by former devs or big fans of AC franchise...
Dudes, I had a mild interest until I heard the game is made by those nihilists, From Soft, at which point my interest went downhill so fast it broke terminal velocity.
@TheDudeElDuderino nihilists? I'm a big fromsoft fan but they've never stood out as having an especially nihilistic attitude, as an organisation. Not sure how that would affect the quality of the games they make either...
@starnivore well, dude, you're obviously not a golfer. 😉 nihilists... that's just something from "the big lebowsky".
On a serious note: I tried to like From games, but I only end up really disliking them so I learned after the original Demon Souls, Dark Souls, Bloodbourne and Sekiro to finally stop buying them. It's a bummer, man.
I've no clue what this game is exactly about story-wise, but the presentation is awesome. Just finished the first chapter and try to get my grips with the loads of systems, but so far it's pretty cool. But I cannot say if I'll ever finish it...
