Sony's latest State of Play livestream has just concluded, giving us a glimpse at what's heading to PS5 and PSVR2 in the near future. The question is, what did you think of the show overall? Were you satisfied by the games on display, or did it miss the mark? Have your say in our poll, then leave your thoughts in the comments section below.

I asked for Behemoth and Astro.
They gave me Behemoth and Astro.
Pretty damn poor, as expected. Even monster hunter trailer was boring somehow. At least Astro Bot should be fun. But Concord looks like hot trash.
In the words of Will from The Inbetweeners; ‘well that, was ***** dreadful’.
L. We still have no clue what’s coming in terms of first party. Astro was the only good thing shown there
Good, but only due to my boy Astrobot! Amazing game and I cannot wait!!
Anyone else questioning their identity as a gamer? I haven't truly looked forward to ANYTHING or properly loved any game in quite some time. Think I'm getting too old for this
It was good, I wasn't expecting much, they tempered my expectation when they announced it. And I got a MonHun trailer, that's bonus for me.
Pretty poor for me personally. But to be fair, Astro Bot looked wonderful, so at least there's that!
Most of it was pretty meh, with some occasional decent announcements. It really couldn't have started off worse, but it did get better.
The Astro Bot game was made it worth watching, it easily stole the show for me.
It was ok.
Few meh stuff for me.
Few interesting looking titles.
Then MHWilds and Astro bot - with a release date, that is soon
Astro is cool I guess but overall that was very bad.
We still have no clue what first party stuff is coming in 2025? My very low expectations were somehow still not met. If astro wasn't in there it would of been a complete write off
I didn't think it was so bad. Astro Bot looked awesome and there were a couple of Eastern action games (Japanese/Korean?) that I think looked really fun
A few gems but a lot of what we already knew was coming, and far too heavily saturated with dark fantasy action games which does none of them any favours as they all start to blend together.
Also felt like much of what we saw was updates/retreads of games we already know of. Great for fans of those individual games but not much broad appeal.
Astro looks great but the leaks definitely took a lot of 'wow' out of the reveal. I kept waiting for 'one more thing' at the end.
No Gravity Rush 2 remaster ((( I guess either the leak was wrong or they delayed it? Maybe at Summer Games Fest
As expected pretty much garbage at least they gave me Astro Bot it looks Sensational I can't wait I'm getting that day one Astro is only proving that Sony need more Japanese Studios like Asobi
Was expecting some news on Phantom Blade Zero. The developers announced a demo coming this year and a State of Play would have been a great opportunity for info about it or an actual release. Ballad of Astara (I think that was the name?) looks interesting and I can't wait for the Astro game. Otherwise, such a let down.
Was good, had low expectations and it slightly exceeded them. Few games I was interested in specifically
And while not for me I thought these looked good
It was saved by Astro Bot, that looked phenomenal.
Astro Bot is peak but yeah that was pretty bad. I know people are saying “it’s just a SoP, what did you expect.” But not only has there been a ton of great SoPs (June 2022 and Sep 2022 especially), but you can’t ignore the context of the PS5 exclusive lineup being dire and first party output being incredibly dark.
It was exactly how I imagined it to be! Astrobot looks fantastic and it is releasing so soon! Day one
@Atreus97 Amen brother
@Atreus97 Same but then there was astrobot! I cannot wait to play these type of game with my Daughter and Son ( she is only two sooo need to wait)
Very solid showcase I thought. A good mix of interesting new stuff, the debut of a promising new PlayStation IP, Monster Hunter and Silent Hill 2 deets and, of course, the return of the king, Astro.
I rate it a 8/10 purely on the last 10 minutes, Monster Hunter Wilds is one of my most anticipated games and it looked amazing, Astro Bot also looked really good and just something different to look forward to instead of Sony's cinematic big hitters all the time. Silent Hill also looked great and even Concord didn't look as bad as what I was expecting when it first got announced, actually looks like a great alternative to Overwatch which has slowly gone downhill over the last few years, so I'm actually looking forward to that as long as its priced reasonably.
The rest of the games shown I weren't a fan of, especially the VR and Souls Like looking games, but I suppose they tried to put on a state of play that catered to all types of gamers, although I'm slightly disappointed no JRPG's made the cut.
Well, this Astro game looks like the best platformer that isn’t in VR ever made. A shame it’s not 10 times better by being in VR, but I’ll probably still get it at some point, just not day one. What it does prove is that Sony had no intention of supporting PSVR2 from launch. To not even make it a hybrid game is just scandalous. And sad. Very, very sad. To lose such potential by locking Astro behind a pane of glass like some 80s Superman, forcing him to move in a 2d plane instead of being a true 3D platformer. Why Sony, why ruin things like this?
There were a couple of what looked like decent Japanese games from a dev I’ve never heard of. And it all started with a game that looked like it would have been great if it wasn’t shackled to a live service monetisation campaign (hopefully someone will collate all these CGI scenes into a channel where I don’t have to play the repetitive game, it looks like something I’d like to watch).
Behemoth was a bit more combat focused than I was hoping, with seemingly little exploration, but its early days.
Astro saved it from being terrible for me
Astro was the highlight for me. The rest were games that looked unremarkably similar to each other
Pretty woeful to be honest until the very, very, VERY end. While MH Wilds and Astro Bot look absolutely fantastic (Astro Bot especially; the AA fan in me is in jubilation right now), everything else shown was either incredibly generic, something we already knew about or had a trailer that went on for far too long (Concord alone took up a third of the runtime and I still feel like I have no clue what it actually is).
Overall its probably about a C+ and even then that might be a bit generous XD
Astro Bot and Dynasty Warriors made this a winner for me
Concord was good to see at the beginning, and I liked Astro bot at the end. The middle...meh.
Astro looked awesome. I'll pass on everything else, but SH and MH will surely please a lot of people. So I voted 'Okay', which honestly seems generous.
Pretty weak. I actually liked the Concord cut-scene well enough but once the gameplay started it looked utter dross. Astro Bot looks nice.
Honestly, the daft princess photo thing was the most interesting game they showed.
Apart from Astrobot, it was pretty terrible. Is Sony’s output so poor because there’s no competition? I can’t remember a worse gen for games.
Can't believe I was excited for this show. Will get Astro Bot, really got hyped at the start for concorde and it just turned out to be a reskinned destiny deathwatch, gutted, because if it had been a full on reskinned pve destiny with that story I would love it. Silent Hill looks bad remake. And we are just getting killed with soulslike games, they all are blurring into one now.
Our Expectations for You Were Low But Holy F**k
Terribly a lackluster showcase.....waste of resources that could have been announced just on any site at any time.
Good night everyone! Hope you guys also have this song in your head haha
Astro Bot
I am Astro Bot
I am Astro Bot
I am Astro Bot
Astro Bot
That was pretty poor. Of course I didn't have high expectations either and the games had already been leaked. But What is Sony doing? They couldn't even reveal a teaser trailer for their 2025 lineup?
If it wasn’t for Astro Bot this would’ve been Poor or Very Poor, but it quite literally saved the show for me, tbh it makes me as excited as I’d be for a blockbuster such as GoW or Spider-Man.
I will buy the ***** out of Astro Bot
I thought it was terrible with almost nothing but pvp garbage except a few Japanese games (specially Astro Bot!) that did look interesting but I need to see more. Overall it was a waste of time for me.
Astro Bot, God of War Ragnarok for PC and Silent Hill 2 were the highlights for me.
The show was... good... but it could have been much better.
I hope they can show some more titles at SGF.
EDIT
PushSquare - make a poll about which of the shown titles we enjoyed the most, so we can vote the hell out of Astro Bot
I’m one of the few who enjoyed it.
There are like 3 games I’m interested in, which is enough because my backlog is eternal.
I think people always have too high expectations of these things and always feel let down.
Nothing looked inherently shocking.
Voted Good. Silent Hill 2 and Astro Bot are going to fill out what has already been a pretty crammed year for me.
@GagaOooLaLa A lot of their development muscle was tied up in since-canceled live service games until very recently. I think that's the explanation for this.
Horrendous, Astro Bot was the only thing that piqued my interest and Silent Hill 2 was laughably terrible.
Astro is a saviour of what otherwise was a very abysmal show. Might as well keep it for game fest the next time around if they have only so much to show. Would benefit game fest more.
@Atreus97 Yes starting to feel that way. A non stop conveyer belt of bland multiplayer ***** and piss all well crafted single player experiences. Feels like modern gaming in a nutshell.
@nyr2k2 amen, brother
Astro looks awesome. I was also pretty interested in the dynasty warriors game. Everything else looked decent but I don’t expect everything to be for me so I’ll take two winners.
Apart from Astrobot, Monster Hunter looked fun but others just didn’t captivate me. Over 10 mins on Concord felt unnecessary.
Decent enough showing, as usual people expect it to be 14 AAA brand new unmentioned games that are first party out next week and then get shocked when its not.
Astrobot and the PSVR games where enough for me, POE should be good if the 1st is anything to go by and the overwatch clones may have some fun value in them.
@GagaOooLaLa I kinda agree with you. Microsoft please give us Halo Master Chief collection 😋😀
It was good but not great.
I had somewhat high expectations for Concorde and that reveal did NOTHING for me.
Pleasantly surprised by Dynasty Warriors Origins and Ballad of Antara. Where Winds Meet also picked my curiosity.
Don't know what to think about the lollisim...
Sony finished strong with Silent Hill 2's release date.
The gameplay reveals of both Monster Hunter Wilds and Astrobot are both my games of the show along with Silent Hill 2 (now how about a Silent Hill 1 remake)
I don't really expect much from these shows anymore. They've all pretty much been letdowns ever since the pandemic.
i enjoyed the show lots of games i am interested in would give it a 7/8. Astro bot looks fantastic and i like the look of concord excited to see more of it characters look a little bland though
@spukknik1 same, from all the samey looking chinese swordfight soulsbornes, this one did stand out.
I mean, folks have been clamoring for Astro Bot, and here it is, coming in 2024 no less! Plus Monster Hunter Wilds! AND… excited to finally have a release date for Silent Hill 2!!! I HAVE FAITH!
Kept my expectations low and Sony surprised me. Some interesting looking games. And with Summer Game Fest coming, there will be more.
My expectations were pretty low, and the only thing that piqued my interest was the Ballad of whatever it was called, Concord maybe (although that intro was far too long and I have no interest in their "witty", Marvel-y banter) and perhaps Silent Hill but I have no faith in Bloober. But then Astro-Bot; oh boy, that looks wonderful. So just for that I would have to say it exceeded my expectations
They want Concord to succeed so bad. Will be interesting to see how people like it during the beta. Right now I can't decide if that 10 minutes of attention is a sign they've got something great on their hands or that the suits demand live service uber alles.
It sucked...apart from Astrobot!
Truly awful state of play completely redeemed by Astrobot! Can’t wait to have a big stupid grin on my face playing it 😝
Even with the Astro Bot announcement, I still rated it Poor. Yes, my expectations were in check, but that still doesn't excuse the fact that anything else we didn't already know about was 3rd party. There's no way that developers that haven't released anything in at least 3-5 years don't have something to at least reveal. I'm getting really sick of still not knowing what any of them are developing outside of online titles or Wolverine.
I honestly felt like I wanted my 30 minutes back until the Astro Bot reveal, but one great announcement shouldn't excuse them.
It was ok.it could of beeen better.word up son
I didn’t feel like this State of Play was necessary if that’s what was being shown.
Terrible that was freaking terrible. A generic hero shooter, a PC port, an Astro Bot game and a remaster of a horror game no one asked for is basically Sony's 1st party line up for 2024, yeah good job Helldivers 2 exists because jesus.
MS will be putting out more PS5 games then Sony in 2024 and that's hilarious.
Wasn't expecting anything and:
-Concord looks like something I can enjoy
-New Dynasty Warriors
-Path of exile
-Astrobot looks nuts
And the most important part Concord and Astrobot are games for this year.
Anything monster hunter related gets a 10/10 from me! Can't wait!
Should have just dropped the Astro Bot trailer instead.
Astrobot looks good but I'm still suffering from first party blue balls...
Well we were trying to tell you that it'll just be Concord, Until Dawn and Astro.
Sony will have PS5 Pro to sell soon, so anything there saving for 2025 will around then.
@GagaOooLaLa AAA games industry is falling apart big time this gen. Every game games that manages to release and result in the team getting laid off is a miracle in my books.
I voted good but that was only because of Astro Bot lol. I'm supriced it is just called Astro Bot though, perhaps they will be updating it with more content over time so just call it Astro Bot 🤔
Well me thinks we won’t see the PS5 Pro in 2024 if it does exist.
No new big Sony studio AAA game to show it off with.
Maybe 2025 who knows with these companies.
I thought last years wasn’t good for my Sony Studio campaign AAA games but this year must be so far unless we get a major surprise my lowest ever PlayStation year I can remember.
Concord story trailer for multiplayer game we already knew. Hate when they do that. Also Guardians of the Galaxy style seriously the imagination is gone there for trends and similarities. XD best in the industry to a new studio with old good talent is it different for the genre sure, the gameplay no but characters somewhat but in general NO lol. Creative minds indeed how much did the team have or Sony wanted because imagination lacking big time here. Good trailer eh multiplayer trend.
Hot sauce not in the gameplay and eh done to death abilities though.
If Titanfall 1 story multiplayer that's cool if not why bother.
Astro had me thinking of the Splatoon 3 trailer with the desert trailer giving illusion of an open world vibe but it wasn't so yay.
The recycling was a bit eh but most new is good. Also references hit and miss of them doing that as it seems a bit eh also reminds us of BETTER PlayStation eras yet the current either sits well with you or like me not playing any of them and just Astro isn't enough to sell me on a PS5 I need at least 5-10 games and I haven't seen many third party to care about either.
Remakes/ports don't care for.
PSVR2 games that may sell the headset but not my type of games.
The Asian games were good but some blended together with other games already out.
The setting and combat seem formulaic by now and not exciting to pick between other games.
Nikki as a console experience is kind of cool but not my thing
Only Astro appeals to me.
Monster Hunter as an open world is cool. Some delays on the creatures were odd. The darker talking segment looked like Final Fantasy 16 type direction or some PS3 game wasn't really into that moment for a cutscene type of look.
An ok State of Play. As usual nothing for me.
I'd give it a what 5-7/10 for variety and quality, transitions were good between trailers and what was said but if I was to be brutal as in nothing but 1 game I care about which at least 1 is enough yeah nah I'd say a 2/10 as well nothing here for me and Astro while good PSVR 2 mode or not even. There is nothing here for me really.
Although my expectations were very low and Astro Bot does look like a lot of fun, I thought the showcase was terrible. There wasn't anything that was worth having a State of Play for. They clearly just needed to do something for the announcement season, but were not willing to announce any of the heavy hitters so they put this out.
Pleased Where Winds Meet is coming to PS5, the EDGE preview was very positive.
That Ankara game looked interesting.
I actually think let Concord breath a little. I am personally not enamoured by hero shooters, but it looķed to be well produced.
Path of Exile 2 with couch co-op on PS5 looked like a damn Diablo killer!
Astro Bot literally looks like Sony did a Nintendo, it looks so high quality and creative.
Despite these somewhat desultory moments of dopamine, I was dissappointed. First party has gone dark, all the stalwarts are just ominously absent...
One show, some day will bring the exuberance, but I honestly think this won't be until the end of this gen, where the likes of Sucker Punch or Naughty Dog will announce the banger they've been surreptitiously working on all this gen.
@Atreus97 @Atreus97 was just thinking the same thing! Played so many games and wanted to love them recently but nothing quite hit or stuck properly.
To be fair though, deathloop caught me up properly for a few weeks, cyberpunk was a stunning game (took some time to get going though) and I’ve just started death stranding, which has already got me hooked. Sometimes it’s best to go back to a few games a few years out that have been well rated….
Ballad of Antara looks good. Wanted a release date for where wind meets so that’s disappointing. No phantom blade 0 so again disappointed
@AdamNovice True, and it is exactly what I expected but I am still disappointed. At least before I could live with the vague naivety that there might be something exciting show. Now I just have to wait 4 months and hope that they will do a proper showcase in September. That has been the theme of this generation, waiting for the big thing to finally happen.
Really looking forward to the Alien game on vr and astro bot, they both look amazing. Still on the fence with silent hill 2 but I'm hopeful. Finding it hard to keep intrest due to repeating formulas
@JaBrony123 agreed - 2 or 3 of the games were just remasters/rereleases to fill time?!
Good thing i didn't expect KH 4, RE 9, Ghost 2, or whatever big games or i will be dissapointed af lmao.
As i expected, Astro Bot new game is pretty much the only interesting thing for me from this SOP and it looks super fun and not VR exclusives.
Not sure why SH 2 remake looks weird / bad especially the combat. I think Konami hired the wrong devs here to remake SH 2.
And that Concord game feels like a GotG ripoff mixed with Overwatch. It will run it steam pretty fast so don't think Sony will score a home run with this game like they did with Helldivers 2.
I rated this SOP 6/10 or okay. It would be 5/10 if Astro Bot isn't in there.
Pretty poor for me. Path of Exile, Astro Bot and Where Wind Meets (?) looked interesting. Everything else was not really for me. Know some stuff might be being held back for Summer Game thing, but f*** me that was not inspiring.
@DennisReynolds Astrobot and Silent Hill 2 are enough to carry the year for Sony.
So what about the xbox games? MS pretty much capitulated and their games on PS are a sign of that, they just can't admit defeat so they call it a "different strategy". They all sell great on PS5 yes, but they all bend the knee paying the 30% cut.
That was just awful, no big games. Only Astro Bot for me out of all of them. Really aren't helping themselves if they're going to be releasing a pointless Pro console. Next for me will be the MS one in June, at least with it we're guaranteed to get more COD info.
Yeah only Astro Bot for me. But in fairness the only other game I would have been interested in is concord, and I wasn't really a fan of how it looked or how it seemed to play I'll try it though.
So yeah other than Astro Bot it was L showcase for me.
Oh well I think I can safely say after watching that.
Unless Sony have something else for this year and maybe Nintendo my year 2024 is now set.
Depending on MS delivering.
Star Wars outlaws
Assassin creed
Avowed on GP
Indy on GP
COD on GP
In my opinion, not really. Nothing in the showcase really got my jaw dropping or saying "Wow!". I do admit that the Astro Bot game looked amazing and very fun to play. Probably the best game shown tbh.
@arsmolinarc SH2 looks awful and going by the Dev behind it then yeah it will be. MS actually have a lot of games this year far better then Sony's dreadful line up (Helldivers 2 being the exception). Good job Sony made those deals for FF7 Rebirth, Stellar Blade and Ronin because 1st party wise its yet another year of not much. At the very least they could announce what to expect next year, a Wolverine trailer and Ghost 2 reveal would have done wonders for the show.
@thefourfoldroot1 I couldn’t agree with you more. While Astrobot looked great, I was really hoping it’d be at least a hybrid VR game. Such a missed opportunity as I think Astrobot on the PSVR was probably my favorite VR experience.
@AdamNovice Sony could have told people the whole line up for the show weeks in advance, and people would still watch it and moan about what was shown 😂.
Concord
0/10
I dont support games where PS Players have to pay for online access while PC players dont from a publisher that is also the console manufacturer of that very console. Second Class Citizen Treatment.
God of War Ragnarok PC
-100/10
Sony shouldnt put these AAA Blockbuster games on PC.
Them PC gamers cant f themselves. Sony should focus on Playstation Players and Playstation Players only. Go argue with your mama.
Dynasty Warriors Origins
2/10
I haven't played a Dynasy Warriors game for over 10 years. I dont think Im going Back to it.
Infinity Nikki
1/10
Im not a 12 yo girl.
Ballad of Antara
9/10
Looks super promising. Hits alot of boxes for me. Wishlist it as soon as possible.
Skydance's Behemoth,
0/10
I dont have VR and probably not gonna get VR.
Marvel Rivals
0/10
WTF
Where the Winds Meet
9/10
Looks Stellar. Melee. Action. RPG. Yes, Im in.
Until Dawn
1/10
Very unnecessary
Path of Exile
3/10
Not my type of game looks cool though
Silent Hill 2
8/10
Looks superb. Never played the original so Im grateful this exits giving new players a chance to catch upon History
Monster Hunter: Wilds
6/10
Not my type of game but Ive always respected that franchise a bunch.
Astro Bot
10/10
YES!
6/10 overall.
SOLID SoP
Astrobot was exciting but that's it. I needed JRPGS.
It was good. Not great, but good. Astro Bot absolutely carried the show, I am kind of a sucker for Dynasty Warriors so that looked interesting as well, but the rest of it for me was either not at all interested or only slightly of interest. But man, just for Astro Bot alone, it would be impossible for me to call it bad. THIS is the type of game I have been wanting Sony to put out!
Extremely poor. The only thing that even slightly got a rise out of me was Astro Bot. If Xbox wasn't so far behind Sony you could tell they could win this gen with what they have coming in the pipeline.
Where Winds Meet, Ballad of Anthara and Astro Bot make it Okay in my book.
Concord will have incredibly tight gameplay - that's my prediction. Seeing Newsk and Hamrick in that segment, two of the devs at the heart of Destiny's best PvP period tells me so. Some other potential gems in the SOP, and obviously Astro!
@UltimateOtaku91 It's some just want to be outraged all the time.
Sony's entire lineup this year is:
Helldivers 2
Rise of the Ronin
MLB The Show 24
Stellar Blade
Concord
Astro Bot
and Until Dawn Remake.
That's not a bad lineup considering there isn't a huge IP launch this year.
Im sorry, i really wanted to see far more in the way of NEW Sony single player games - the games they made their brand on, given such a long period of almost silence
On the non Sony front Dynasty warriors looked interesting (we already knew about SH2), but i would have wanted a rating below "terrible", until astrobot brightened up my evening.
Astrobot - "Amazing"
Rest - "Sony have really fallen hard"
I thought it was decent but nothing spectacular, apart from Astrobot. Given that it was mainly focused on 2024 releases and we already knew that there would be no major first party franchise releases in 2024 then there was never going to be much first party wise. It was nice to get release dates for some games though, with some being sooner than I was expecting.
An ok State of Play. Astro Bot was a fantastic announcement and it was really cool seeing more MH Wilds (I honestly thought that would've been Summer Game Fest instead). Definitely the 2 highlights of the show.
Biggest negative was that 10 minutes on Concord disrupted pacing a lot.
@AdamNovice Yeah that's a solid lineup and I'd even throw FF7 ReBirth in there as its a console exclusive. They've given us three solid game of the year contenders already so far and I can see Astro Bot getting added to that list as well, but certain people are just hard to please.
Literally silent hill for me
watching the silent 2 game play demo , i'm even more excited for it. and we finally have a release date.
Astro Bot was the only thing that I liked (no, loved) the rest was garbage.
@UltimateOtaku91 I so hope Astro is a GOTY contender. Out of all of Sony's IP's, this is the one I want to see succeed.
An okay showing for me, saved from being terrible by Astro bot and mh wilds at the end. I’ll be incredibly surprised if Concorde is still being sold this time next year, game looks pretty derivative sadly, and is launching into a very overcrowded and competitive market space. I hope the studio get to make something else if it fails.
@Atreus97 People cycle through hobbies all the time, which is great. But age has very little to do with liking games or not. We are in the age of The Last of Us, not Atari. Saying a person is too old for games is just like saying they are too old for movies or music or books. They are all just hobbies.
I hope that you find some games or another hobby that inspires you!
This PS presentation didn’t inspire me. I thought it was pretty poor.
Behemoth looks great, as does Alien although we need a bit more gameplay on that.
Absolutely pathetic that Astro isn't a hybrid especially as the gameplay looked basically like Rescue Mission, thankfully many people seem to be voicing their opinion on the Blog, just a shame Sony doesn't read it. Perhaps if it comes to PC then people can mod it. I did say in a previous comment that the announcement of the PC adapter was the death knell, well this announcement is them taking a whiz on the grave.
As for the rest of the show, not too bad although ten minutes of Concord cgi wasnt necessary, they could have just say "Now imagine viewers another Overwatch clone"
Can we have an option in the poll for 'poor except for astro bot'.
Concord had me right up to the moment it showed gameplay. Then it looked like every other gaas on the market and will be competing them(Hell a competitor, Marvel, was literally in this same State of Play). It didn't look attractive. My prospects are not good for that game in the long run. People bring up Helldivers II but that game passed the unique factor off jump and looked fun. This game doesn't to me.
Astro Bot looks good. I'll get that. I still may be the only person on the planet of hasn't played Playroom whose had their PS5 for this long though lol.
The Ballads Of Antara looked interesting. I'll keep an eye on that.
Monster Hunter looked cool.
Overall: 4/10. It sucked.
Only games I liked from State of Play was MH Wilds and Astro Bot. The rest was boring. Still, at least there was something. Looking to the other shows now.
So Astro is the PS5’s sole big exclusive for 2024 and likely coming to PC in 2025 anyway. Oh how the mighty are falling.
I’ve said it numerous times, the PS5 generation is horrible compared to past gen’s.
Greatness awaits, and waits, and waits, and waits, an…………………………………….
Astro Bot looks great!
...
That's it. So, "poor", I guess.
If it weren't for Silent Hill 2 Remake redeeming itself to me and Astro Bot, I'd have fallen asleep.
My guess, Sony is keeping their powder dry for a true Showcase later in the year. Imagine the Pro announcement, coupled with the big first party announcements, all of them enhanced for Pro. I think that’s what is coming and it’s going to be a thermonuclear detonation when it hits. Big holiday season 2024!!
New IP/games, Astrobot. All good things.
I guess people want more AAA single player epics and both Sony and MS have that issue.
Jesus Concord looks like regurgitated garbage. Aside from the ASTRO bot and monster hunter stans, the rest of this just didn't need to be Compiled into a state of play and had little interesting to show. The entire thing felt like a forced mess cobbled together because it's the time of the year when showcases occur.
If anything this just confirms the reason behind the discourse surrounding the waning perception of the Ps5 generation thus far, at least on the first party front.
All that aside this is about what I expected, so it's of little surprise.
Absolute garbage and further proof if any were needed of the psvr2 demise
That had to be the most mediocre state of play we've seen yet. What are Bluepoint, Housemarque, Bend, and Naughty Dog working on? I mean, not even a tease for Ghost of Tsushima???
New Astrobot looks great.
Sooo...yeah, I guess that was it for me.
That new Astrobot game, will probably be the only game, at the moment, that keeps me from selling my PS5.
For the last 12 months, Final Fantasy XVI and Stellar Blade, are the only new games I used it for, as I'm otherwise playing on my PC.
If 2025, becomes just as boring as this year (so far), when it comes to exclusives, then I'm done with Playstation (and Xbox) consoles.
So much garbage “free-to-play” and soulless live service/PvP
Astro, Silent Hill 2 and Monster Hunter were saving graces. Where Winds Meet could be good but have to see more.
Biggest disappointment: Ballad of Antara. Cool trailer, then turns out to be another gacha
Eh, its was alright. Really only thing for me was Astro Bot, though I can appreciate the variety of what was shown.
I was really looking forward to something more impressive. I was so disappointed after the show that I got pissed off and smashed a mustard jar against the floor and then had to clean up the mess
I went in with low expectations and they were met. Not too keen on anything that was announced, but I can see the appeal. I’m eager to see if the Until Dawn remaster includes any new features or content. Overall, this was just ok for me.
Just "Okay" from me.
I already pre-ordered Silent Hill 2 after seeing this and will definitely get Astro Bot, but I pretty much skipped most of the presentation as the vast majority of games didn't hold my interest.
I thought the Concord cinematic video was fun, but I checked out after that as I don't like multiplayer games and things weren't much better after that except for the 2 games I already mentioned.
Of course there are going to be apologist. But, honestly, how long do we have to wait before Sony amazes us? We all get there's good games coming out and most years have had a decent line up. But that's just it, every year with the PS5 so far has just been decent. Where's the onslaught of games that Nintendo manages every other year now? The revitalized IPs of yore to put a smile on our faces — where's the next God of War? Why hasn't Sony put it a genre defining game since the start of the generation?
We should be in the heat of the PS5's life and the best game I've played so far was Astro Bot. And, while new Astro Bot is wonderful, there should be more by now.
@Ludacritz this is the biggest problem , people have made up there own rumors or expect something that wasn't happening, no one ever said ghosts was going to be teased or showed off , the fact that you are upset about something that was never planned to happen is just putting ur self in a spot to be let down by your own mind.
@anubisvel it was reported the game was completely redone with a new camera angle and i think there is extra content added in with the camera angle.
One of the worst ever. I'll go back to playing Stellar Blade.
It's okay, I just come for the God of War Ragnarok PC confirmation and that's what I get.
They didn't even announce suicide squad 2, very poor.
@Atreus97 it has to be some of that my guy, but at the same time.. none of what they showed was a surprise announcement from any of their main developers, I mean like.. ***** me!! Almost 15 minutes on a GaaS title?! Gtfo with that bs, lol!!
That was one of the worst state of plays they have ever done.
So many free to play or multiplayer games. Where are the games I got a PS5 to see. Astro Bot, Silent Hill 2, and Dynasty Warriors Origins seem interesting. Monster Hunter Wilds looks good but not for me. But most other reveals were either confusing as to what they were or were just boring.
Concord seemed cool to start only to see the actual gameplay and immediately lose all interest in it.
Mixed feelings, but honestly I feel that these SoP showcases always seem to miss the 'key objective' = show gamers why they should own a Playstation!
Astrobot aside, many of the games presented will be multi-platform - and we really seem to be lacking exciting new IP from Sony. Insomniac seem to have been clipped into becoming 'the Marvel machine' and Naughty Dog are perhaps now tied in to TLoU franchising/sequels thanks to the success of the HBO show. Sucker Punch nowhere to be seen...?
And what of the more exciting acquisitions such as Housemarque (Returnal) and Bluepoint (DeS remake)... what are these studios working on? Both the aforementioned games were highlights of my PS5 time, and I'd be delighted to know/see what is coming next.
Instead we see Sony (alongside others) trying to chase live-service models and F2P concepts, whilst doubling down on remakes/remasters.
2024 has been a weak year for gaming in general IMO. I am looking forward to Erdtree later, but nothing else is grabbing me. Saying that though, I have enjoyed the new PoP game + Baltro + Animal Well. Hades 2 (EA) is also pretty great
I thought it was pretty great actually. Astro Bot looks just simply sublime I have all the faith in the world that game is going to be a real banger!
I also thought Concord looked pretty damn good too surprisingly. I'm looking forward to giving the beta a shot.
Sure the middle section didn't have too much that appealed to me but like I always say if I can find 1 or 2 things in interested in then I'm Hatoyama and I definitely got that here.
state of depression
@Deoxyr1bose
I love your name, but I have no idea what you're talking about. PlayStation has so many exclusives. Rebirth, Rise of the Ronin, Helldivers 2, and Stellar Blade so far. Astro Bot and Concord later this year plus all the stuff I didn't mention.
Whether we know what the various first party studios are working on or not, they are working on things and they will come out.
I hated everything about Concord. It’s so generic it seems AI generated (from a “Guardians of the Galaxy style FPS” prompt).
Too many f2p games.
Too much uninspired fantasy.
Astro Bot looks fun, but it still looks like a free PS5 demo game, instead of being its own thing.
I've saved and saved, and today I order a PC, well lots of components. Gamers have never had it so bad and I've been here since way before playstation. I used to think blitz on zx81 could never be beaten... wasn't last night.
I just dont understand what theyre doing at sony. How the ***** can it be that not a single dev has something ready except for insomniac…( talking about ND, Santa monica, sucker punch etc.).
This is straight up embarrassing. If they fail to release any products at least give us native ps3 support. Im not paying for their clown ass streaming trash, but id gladly buy every ps3 game again
After last year's disaster, this somehow managed to be almost as bad. What is going on over there, this after almost 2 years of no shows at all, utterly bizarre
@Atreus97 I'm many years older than you and a I can relate, those GaaS shooters are the least thing that could interest me in gaming. However, my secret is: "few but good". I still have Baldur's Gate, Dragon's Dogma to play, Kingdom Come is arriving. Enough for a couple of years of gaming.
Astrobot looks fun if slightly the same as the last game. I can’t tell if Infinite Nikki is an RPG or a dress up Dolly game from what they showed, but I would like another solid JRPG so I’m slightly interested. Everything else was standard fare for people who like that sort of thing, but not for me.
For actual presentation, it really was just a bunch of trailers strung together that didn’t need to be tied together as a presentation.
@Atreus97 I was honestly thinking exactly the same thing during this. Maybe it's just my age... This was utter garbage!
There was a point when I they showed a new game and I thought it was ff16 dlc. It all looks the same to me these days. I'm not the biggest monster hunter fan but those bear/lion creatures were pretty cool.
Very poor overall. Astrobot looks great but more of the same. Until Dawn just made me angry.
@Atreus97 on consoles, yes.
On PC there is a myriad of small stuff coming out that I look forward to. Not a knock on consoles for the sake of it, mind you, only how I feel at the moment.
My ps5 is going to second hand market soon, I think.
This was disappointing. I'm wondering what will be announced during Summer Games Fest, if anything ...?
@teh_jokr you mean 2025/ 26 surely?
@AdamNovice
I mean, that would be an alright for a launch lineup. We are mid-gen. Seems like historically the first party gates are opened around this point and we get the genre-defining stuff, the platform flexes it's muscles, and the console breaks into a full sprint. Instead of revving up, feels like Sony is hitting the brakes.
I didn't think it was an awful showcase. Not good either, mind you, as I wasn't impressed in the slightest. It's cool though, I wasn't expecting much so I can't be upset.
Maybe this gen is just gonna take a little longer to find it's footing and we just have to accept that.
@UnlimitedSevens it’s a fair point but what I think you aren’t factoring in is how much longer games that push hardware take to make now compared to previous generations. Those games that flex the hardware are coming, no doubt, but they will take a little longer.
But I only really have one question, do you, or anyone else, REALLY have a shortage of games to play?
I voted poor, not to be unncessarily negative but as there wasn't anything exciting except for Astro Bot. Concord was strange to devote a lot of time to CG then show underwhelming gameplay. Silent Hill 2 release date was welcome but the trailer wasn't good, although Transmission saved some face. Know this was a SOP not a showcase but was still buzz and expectation that personally wasn't met.
I voted poor.
I didn't bother watching live, but caught up with it this morning. Pretty "meh" for me, except for the one game I'm interested in... AstroBot.
Despite a few corkers, PS5 has been the most disappointing PlayStation generation for me in terms of games. I feel that if I was still on my PS4 Pro, I wouldn't really be missing out on much except the loading speed.
Honestly, Sony... skip the PS5 Pro, focus on pushing some first party games out quickly, and save the hardware goodies for PS6 so that we can actually feel the improvement... because from PS4 Pro to PS5, the experience is... lacking.
Yes, I am aware that this is just my opinion and that others may feel differently.
@Atreus97 mainly played Indies recently, so there's that.
@Atreus97 I've felt this exact same way for years now and literally haven't touched a modern video game for over half a year ...until the remake of my favourite Paper Mario came out last week, which literally reminded me why I liked playing games in the first place. I guess retro simplicity like that is the only refuge from now on lol
...Well, for me at least. TTYD is a banger, though.
The one game that stood out to me, Ballad of Antara, is apparently F2P and that is just sad.
Yay for more Astro Bot! Other than that, I wasn't impressed in all honesty. With the Elden Ring DLC on the way I just can't get particularly excited for other Soulslikes.
Concord looked like the most creatively bankrupt focus tested garbage I've seen in a very long time.
Then they showed what looked like 3 identical souls likes.
Only title that looked remotely good/memorable was Astro Bot.
I'm personally starting to worry that the reason they're not announcing naughty dog and sucker punch's games is because we won't see them until the next gen. And PS biggest studios only releasing games every other generation is rubbish.
@Atreus97 If your entire identity is being a gamer then you should be questioning it....
It's okay, not great but isn't bad either, I means there's astro bot so at least there's one game that I want to play from that state of play. Monhun wilds looks great but I already tried monhun world and rise and it's not my kind of games since I like either rpg or full-on action like devil may cry.
@Atreus97 Exactly what I’ve been thinking for a while. I feel like I’ve lost my “zest” for gaming/PS. I haven’t felt excitement for PlayStation in actual years at this point. Used to look forward almost daily to the next news and shows, but now I feel dead inside. JK, but seriously, PlayStation has done NOTHING in terms of fan service for years, and I’ve grown fatigued constantly anticipating just to be perpetually let down.
We said a YEAR ago that there was no way PS wouldn’t have a first party blowout at their showcase, bc it had been so atypically long since they showed anything of substance. And that showcase was garbage for first party. And now a year later, still nothing. That’s kind of insane.
I went into yesterday’s SoP with such low expectations due to these years of disappointment, and still I somehow came out disappointed and terribly underwhelmed.
I think the PlayStation morale may be at an all time low—even lower than the PS3 days. At least then they were doing great with first party and the news that came with it. Was exciting. PS5 has been freaking boring.
/rant over
the year I become a playstation main and Xbox is going to have a better first party year haha. Thought the show was terrible, Xbox has Avowed and Indiana Jones coming so I guess I'll be dusting off the series x later this year
@spukknik1 it's their strategy to have a couple of excellent single player game a year.
Pretty much garbage remaster that is not needed more shooter pvp bs like we don't have enough of them and a dress up game wtf was that do better sony
I already expected that the showcase would end like this, but at least Astro Bot was shown so it wasn't that bad. Still wished it were better.
Astrobot = Amazing!! Behemoth = Good….then everything else was just plain awful!
