PSVR2 launched on the 22nd of February 2023, which means that the platform is now officially a year old — and you know what that means! Yep, we want to gather your opinions on Sony's VR device, now that we've all had plenty of time to evaluate its first 12 months on the market.
For what it's worth, we think PSVR2 made an impressive initial splash with its sizeable selection of launch titles. Games such as Horizon Call of the Mountain gave a good first impression, showcasing the hardware's capabilities in a technical sense, while the likes of Resident Evil Village and Gran Turismo 7 have been met with a lot of praise for their VR integration.
But what do you think of PSVR2 so far? Have Sony, its studios, and its third party partners done enough for the platform up until this point? Vote in our polls, and then explain yourself in the comments section below.
Do you own a PSVR2? (1,471 votes)
- Yes, I bought one at launch
- Yeah, I got one after launch
- Nah, but I would like one
- Nope, but I might buy one down the line
- No, and I have zero interest in buying one
What do you think of PSVR2, one year later? (1,241 votes)
- I love PSVR2
- I think it's good
- PSVR2 is okay, but it should be better
- PSVR2 is actually a disappointment
- I think it's a terrible platform

Has there ever been a console so utterly abandoned by it's creator this quickly?
Beyond disappointed. The lack of support for not just new games, but not even bothering to port over Astrobot, blood and truth, Wipeout etc is truly unforgivable. Bought a Quest 3 at launch while my psvr 2 collects dust.
@Ooccoo_Jr The PS5 or the VR? The answer to both was Sony investing money in now-cancelled live service titles instead of the single player adventures that kept it on top last gen.
Yes can't wait to get psvr2,I had the first one and absolutely loved the immersion, fantastic experience and vr headsets generally will only get better,I do think vr will become mainstream in time
When it first launched I got shouted at on here by some of the VR diehards when I originally claimed it was over priced.
So I'll rephrase what I said and say that it's just too expensive.
I have what I'd call a passing interest in it but I just can't justify the price tag.
Could I afford one? Yes of course, but that isn't the point
The tech is good and I really want one but it’s still kinda pricey for me. Watching the PSVR 2 space from the outside it looks like there aren’t many games and I hope that will improve over time. With my PS4/PS5 I have almost too many games to play but with PSVR2 I’d be happy with enough immersive games to tidy me over until the next ones come along. I’m sure I’ll get one when the price comes down a bit.. I just hope it’s not dead in the water by the time that happens.
Sony gives PSVR2 so much first-party love as Microsoft gives it to Xbox. In both cases, the receipt for a slow death, beginning on day 1.
I quite enjoy it but Sony should have another game announced for it and bring some ports of PSVR1 games on over.
It has gotten pretty good third-party support and seems to be pretty profitable for them, which is a good sign.
I regularly play and buy games for my PSVR2.
I like mine a lot and still use it fairly frequently (even if just for a quick burst of Beat Saber as a little workout at home), but I definitely feel disappointed by the lack of first party support. As someone else mentioned above, even some ports or PS5 upgrades for older titles like Wipeout or Blood and Truth would have been welcome, but to release literally one first party tile in the entire first year with no more currently announced is egregious. Fingers crossed for a new Astrobot announcement sometime this year, ideally with a fairly quick release window.
I would absolutely love one but just cannot justify the cost. I’m very interested in the future of AR/VR in general though, especially having read a bit about Apple’’s new ridiculously priced tech demo. In 10-15 years it could be the new normal for gaming and general computing.
I loved the psvr and quest 2 especially wired to my pc, but I don't think I have any desire to have another headset laying around. If the psvr 2 was designed with backwards compatibility then I'd like just sold my psvr and bought it, but as I said I just don't need another.
@Member_the_game same here.
Interested? Yeah.
Willing to pay that much for it? Hell no. It costs as much as the PS5 itself and will only ever have a small collection of good games for it, making it way too expensive for what it is.
There are a handful of companies that will rent you one for a reasonable price though...
For me personally, I've had a great year with it. Comfy, easy to use, plug and play, great haptics and triggers and brilliant visuals.
As for the games, some brilliant, some very good and obviously a lot of crap. But you get that with all systems.
GT7 is a masterpiece and the best VR game I've ever played(especially with a seat and wheel setup). Loved star wars. Both saints and sinners were great. Arizona sunshine 2 was fun but a bit of a disappointment. Resident evil village was brilliant, such a difference from playing flat. Looking forward to trying Resident evil 4. Switchback, after the fall and Sierra squad were all very good and worth picking up.
My youngest son has also loved the system. Though I limit his time on it, he's platiumed 5 games on it and finds it much better than my old pc vr setup.
My opinion, its been a great first year, and there are some really good games that I'm looking forward to, Metro, aces of thunder, wanderer and zombie army.
It looks cool but is insanely prohibitively expensive. At that rate you’d be better grabbing a headset that isn’t tied into Sony’s seemingly disinterested approach.
I was really happy with mine thanks to GT7 (also bought a Fanatec wheel and pedals) and now light brigade. I must say that I’m disappointed by the development pipeline (total absence of one) of Sony. One mediocre vomit inducing Horizon game (why not Killzone VR?)
Sony is really not investing it as much as they were with PSVR1… Its got the VITA vibes I love it but Sony just hates supporting it and wants it dead
Crushed by the lack of 1st party muscle behind it. Shame because the hardware is great (I'm fine with the lenses). GT7 was incredible and CotM was promising
It is an excellent hardware with too little support.
@nessisonett I think they've realized they'll have better luck selling it if they support pc too. As they've said they are testing it.
@VaultGuy415 CotM is a work out and for some reason the only game that makes me wanna vomit (I think it’s due reprojection)
PSVR2 was my personal introduction to VR, and I was blown away by titles like Gran Turismo and Red Matter 2 in terms of sheer immersion and environmental details. But its lack of backwards-compatibility with most PSVR games as well as its lack of 3D movie functionality hurt it.
Its biggest drawback, though, has been the cord, without a doubt. Having since purchased a Quest 3, the ability to enjoy VR wirelessly, not to mention its compatibility with PCVR games, has seen it almost completely take over my attention from the PSVR2.
I'll always remember and appreciate PSVR2 for opening my eyes to the possibilities of VR, however. And if it does in fact add PC functionality, I will definitely be using it a lot more in tandem with the Quest for multiplayer sessions with friends and family.
@Ooccoo_Jr Wii U
Red Matter 2, HFW, NMS, RE8, 4, Moss…
Been a decent bundle
That being said I wish there was a bit more in the pipeline as well as a solid media player at this point.
People seem to forget its niche and the pandemic. That and there’s plenty of regular games to play. Never expected VR to replace regular gaming. Just be an addition.
So I’ll be patient
My biggest issue with my PSVR 2 is amount of Zombie shooters. I might be missing something and I have only had it a short time but it seems to be 90% zombies.
I would love a new time crisis game, or remasters of the originals. I'll keep dreaming.
Honestly, Meta quest is much more appealing for a cheaper option or similar priced depending on the model.
Wireless, AR, access to Steam (with refunds on crappy games). Great exercises apps not available on playstation.
Half-life Alyx.
PSVR was such a chore to setup... metaquest is so easy, you can even set it up with your cellphone, and stream what the person sees while playing. Plus you can set it up anywhere you have enough space. youre not stucked in front of your tv and reserve room for the psvr.
@Pinkman That’s not true at all. Wii U had a hell of a lot of first-party support over the years and more than a few good games. It was more due to the lack of third parties.
@Pinkman Wii U was abandoned by the players, not Nintendo. It had great first party games like Mario Kart 8, Breath of the Wild, Pikmin 3, Mario 3D world, Smash Bros, Mario Maker etc etc. First party support was actually the only thing going for it. The fact Sony has gone an entire year without so much as even announcing a game for the PSVR2 is absolutely criminal
I really enjoy using my PS VR2. It feels great and there really isn’t any shortage of games to play on it. But the reason so many people come to PlayStation, if we’re honest, is for the first party games. And in that respect it is clearly not up to scratch.
PC compatibility is all well and good but again it’s likely only to benefit players who own a PS5 and a very good PC. That change isn’t going to add value for PS5 players who don’t fall into that bracket.
Let’s hope there is support in the Sony pipeline that just hasn’t been revealed yet.
You can say what you want about it “only” having a couple of hundred games, but when a few of them are some of the best games of the generation simply because they are in VR, I’m very happy with my day one purchase.
@Ooccoo_Jr Stadia
No system seller level game for it yet.
I wanted F1 support, EA and Codies must be able to do it, but then with PSVR2 going to PC too lets see what I can do there too. Lots of haters and there's so many games.
I'm not interested in VR games at all. I'm too old.
I’m curious about it and I’m sure GT7 and the Resident Evil games will bring a great experience. For the amount and quality of content available I wouldn’t even be tempted if it was 50% cheaper though.
I like it a lot but I'm using it less than I thought I would
It should be cheaper around 400euros..Right now it's a tough sell. They could also try new bundles with aggressive pricing.
@Voltan agreed… though I go through spurts. Where I’ll play it every day for a game… then I just don’t want to be waving my arms around and switch to something else.
Wish devs would always support regular controller input. Sometimes I just want the visual immersion at the end of the day.
@captainsandman Great avatar ❤️ Sorry for my plagiarism
I got one at launch and was using it almost daily to play GT7, but when BG3 came out everything else got put on the back burner. I'm not sure when I'll pick it up again as I have 4 rpg's to play through now before Stellar Blade. No regrets whatsoever though, I've had a lot of fun with it.
One of the best, if not THE best purchase I've ever made. PSVR1 was alright. I enjoyed the experience, but I had so many issues with it, I almost dreaded playing any games on it at times.
PSVR2, on the other hand, is fantastic. My only complaint is that Sony could have supported it so much better. First by porting all their first party PSVR1 games and then by making some exclusives. They don't need a huge budget. Something like Sorcery (does anyone remember it?) would be much appreciated. It would be made on a small budget and rather fast.
Currently, I've bought way more games than I'll have the time to play in the next decade. So even if they don't release another game for it, I'm actually good.
@nessisonett hey I loved the Wii U and it had some fantastic games. It was only said in jest, but seriously Nintendo promised they were going to continue to support it and didn't have plans to replace it, then along came switch. I also love switch but remember being so disappointed at the time.
@jorel262 What's too old if you don't mind me asking? For me it's rejuvenated my love for gaming after getting a bit stale with flat games...
Really love my PSVR2 as think it’s:-
1) super comfy (for me anyway)
2) got some amazing games
3) love the oled
4) the cord doesn’t bother me at all as I’d rather have better graphics.and not worry about battery life
5) Already got a massive backlog (as I’ve never played crossover games like vertigo 2)
But as others above have said, you can’t hide from the fact that:-
1) Not enough PSVR1 conversions
2) Not enough direct Sony support
3) No vr media player
4) WHY ON EARTH can’t I buy separate controllers???? So annoying!!!
Looking at getting a gaming PC to run in parallel with PS5 so very excited to see how the pc support for PSVR2 pans out. Quest 3 is the other option obviously.
PSVR2 is a great piece of kit. Though reviews (including here) overblew the screen quality and not setting expectations with regards to the very small sweet spot.
In terms of games, there's been a surprisingly good amount of quality but of course the lack of 1st party titles is concerning and with the news of PC support I'm wondering if it's just going to put off developers from porting games over.
Am I happy with mine yes, could it be better yes, the lenses do need some improvement and I would say if a PS5 Pro exists it should upgrade some games to use the native resolution of the headset. But I do wish it would have some first party games, even if they were mini games like The Playroom VR, or ports of say wipeout.
Lack of backwards compatibility with PSVR games killed all enthusiasm for me. I sold my PSVR because of tracking issues that ruined the enjoyment, figuring I’d just get the next gen when it came out. So, those plans were dashed and now I own a bunch of games I’ll never be able to play.
@Member_the_game At least its a better point to explain that you don't feel that the price tag is justified by the product.
Its like people who brag about their high end PCs and come up with lame crap like "oh just admit you're poor" but for some people, extra frames and resolution isn't worth the price tag, or more specifically a couple grand more.
@Hamst88 Not being able to buy controllers seperately really bothers me, like what if I get really worn thumbsticks or bad stick drift or break a tracking ring.
@TrickyDicky99 I usually agree with a lot of your criticisms as many are fair, but if given by sonys last statement on the product was anything to go on, it seems that Sony priced the hardware so they could maximise profit per unit because many VR players spend a lot on VR software and truth be told I'm one of those, I've probably got more VR software than native PS5 flat games at this point. So sony probably doesn't count it as a flop as they're making money off the software.
@TrickyDicky99 Have you even played GT7, do you think all it offers is a single track, or are you just being deliberately hyperbolic as per usual to contribute yet more negative commentary on this site?
@Yozora146_ The dude is anything but fair. He's a broken record with a never-ending hate boner for this device.
@Yozora146_ Yeah exactly - the controller thing a constant background worry that is just so unnecessary. I full on wince when I let one of my reckless friends have a go!! 🤣🤣
With the warranty for day one purchases running out in uk / Europe, I was so convinced it was going to be part of the birthday announcement. Guessing it’s some sort of production line issue - but it is getting ridiculous now
@TrickyDicky99 So you haven't played it.
I hope the 99 in your name doesn't represent the year you were born.
@Ooccoo_Jr yeah, they gave it about three years of solid support.
@TrickyDicky99 Once again, you haven't played GT7 have you, let alone the PSVR2 version?
"Now I bet you find a plethora of excuses not to give out your ID."
I don't need a plethora, just one. You seem extremely immature and would be the last person I gave my PSN ID to.
I wish I hadn't bought mine, I owned the vr1 and never had motion sickness but strangely I've had it quite bad with vr2.
@Intr1n5ic He won’t have played it on PSVR2 as he doesn’t own a PSVR2. He let that one slip a while ago!
Beats me why he’s so obsessed with the PSVR2 articles on this site.
I'm merely a lurker around here these days with time and such, but I had to jump out of lurker retirement to comment on the PSVR2 anniversary!
I still use mine regularly, took a many months hiatus away from it just because I had other titles I wanted to play, but got immediately hooked again when I returned. Absolutely love it. It's a shame Sony really doesn't demonstrate any real interest in supporting or promoting it, that holds it back from what it could be, but it's still more than worthwhile for what is there from third parties. The Pixel Ripped games alone are some of the greatest gaming experience I've ever played, though they'd only resonate with gamers from the old school days.
I still wish everything could be in VR. Shame even when tech catches up, demand will keep that from happening. It's still the early days of VR and still has that old PS1 era vibe about it, but that's hardly a bad thing.
I'm having a great time with Legendary Tales and I'm very eager to hear more about Behemoth.
I still need to give Arizona Sunshine 2 a go too.
On top of that, RE8, GT7 and Horizon have been excellent experiences.
And if they get the headset working with PC, that's a massive win for me.
@TrickyDicky99 I gotta be honest I'm not entirely sure how reliable gamertagVR is (we're on about the youtuber right) I learned a long time ago that people often push their own agendas (background deals etc) they stretch the context a bit. Sales of certain software could fall of a cliff eventually pretty sure that always happens at some point but if its the video or twitter. But he has also given praise to VR2 and certain software recently from memory.
The biggest concern is the fact that sony themselves have admitted that its more a nascent business than a core business and they expect organic growth rather than an explosion of sales, but hey it's at least made more money than the last of us online am I right lol.
Its also not like the MQ3 has been flying off shelves, current popularity of metas platform is being driven by MQ2. Point is VR still isn't mainstream and sonys PS5 exclusive hardware for now is still a small product in a very niche market.
@Hamst88 I thought as much.
It's just sad how sony treats their niche products. As my introduction to vr psvr1 was great, then a quest 2 and the freedom and library quickly outwayed the fidelity so I went for the quest 3. Honestly guys anyone reading this thats on the fence go for the quest, the lenses are soo much better plus there a big and growing library 👍
@naruball Oh Sorcery! Yes good shout. That would be perfect for PSVR2.
Still waiting for Aces of Thunder TBH 😔
I just dont understand how playstation operates. They have their flagship console nailed down but why do they always introduce these hardware add ons and then never support them.
They have the best tech headset around for plug and play and just dont bother with it.
The headset itself would completely destroy the world of VR and yet nothing.
I think I'm just trying to get at is why bother.
The stupidity of some folk sometimes. “Sony want it dead!” and “there’s no games for it!” are 2 pearlers I’ve just read in the comments. Yeah Sony want their own product to die ofc.
I’ll add to that that Sony also seem to be the only company trying to put new software on new hardware day 1. Didn’t the quest 3 launch with no new games at all? How many games did the Series x launch with exactly?. Meanwhile PlayStation got Demons Souls remake Returnsl Ratchet and clank. Even PSVR2 launched with a pretty decent library of NEW games. Go and join team green or play shovelware on the Nintendo and Steam stores. Yes there’s guff on the PS store but there’s also the good stuff to go with it
Put it this way, i dont regret selling mine.
@thefourfoldroot1 Completely agree. Just three or four unbelievably awesome games has justified the whole purchase for me. And with at least three or four more to come, I'm happy with little niche that is VR console gaming with PSVR2.
I got mine at launch and I'm really happy with it. I was just playing it a few hours ago.
I don't even own a PC (haven't in many years), so the idea of a different VR platform isn't really viable for me.
I get that it's not for everyone. For me? I love it.
From the outside it seems like they took the money and ran.
It absolutely doesnt feel like a success nor does it feel like they have any desire to support it properly with 1st Party stuff, a bit like the PS5 atm.
Its a bit of a weird gen all round in lots of ways.
Promising and capable tech but poorly supported and implemented for example the OLED lenses with their rather small sweet spot. I returned mine and now have the mighty Quest 3 which is just an outstanding piece of hardware for the price, very well supported and compatible with PCVR too.
I'm more disappointed with the PS5 than PSVR2. I have so many games for it which I love.
However, it seems to me like Sony already don't care. It's been completely left to third parties to fill the release list.
Considering how happy Sony is to remake first party games this gen. Where's Astrobot, Rush of Blood, Blood and Truth. Those are easy wins!
A Resistance trilogy and Killzone quadrilogy would be games that could be done without having to build everything from scratch.
Help me understand what you're doing Sony!
It's a total failure and waste of money. I wish I had never got one.
@NeonPizza This is a wonderful post that has summed up pretty much all of my pros and cons.
I also bought a Quest 3 recently (because I adore VR so much) and I can see all of the mistakes made by Sony.
PSVR2 support is finally coming to PC. This just suddenly made the future of it a lot more viable.
@EVIL-C That's just a sign sony has giving up on VR2.
@NeonPizza Yrah, it was reported by PCgamer via the official PS blog. https://www.pcgamer.com/another-wall-crumbles-in-the-console-exclusivity-war-sony-testing-psvr2-on-pc/
"Also, we’re pleased to share that we are currently testing the ability for PS VR2 players to access additional games on PC to offer even more game variety in addition to the PS VR2 titles available through PS5. We hope to make this support available in 2024, so stay tuned for more updates."
@XenonKnight Well they did announce a few VR titles in the recent State of Play. It's very clear that sales of VR2 have trailed far behind the original PSVR (costing more money than the console required to use it on doesn't help). I think within the next year we'll know fully for sure what it's future is.
Personally I'm not buying into any of this VR stuff, even though I would like to try it out. It just seems like it's too expensive and the applications, from a gaming context, are too limiting. Anything first person is a no-brainer, like RE 7 & 8, but beyond that..? 🤷♂️
Maybe it has a nice 3d effect for other types of games, but then at that point I would argue why can't we just bring 3D televisions back, but go one Step Beyond and have a glasses-free, 3DS-like experience in our living room on a 70 inch screen? I would freaking love that, and no bucket strapped to the head required, lol.
@EVIL-C
To “anything first person” you can add “anything that represents a three dimension world” (meaning any non 2D game). It’s the sense of scale and depth as well as being surrounded by the world that makes VR better than flat representations. The best game of last gen was easily Astro Bot Rescue Mission. A third person platformer (consider how scale and depth elevates the experience of platform games).
@NeonPizza Yeah I hear what you're saying. I've been vocal on my disappointment of PS5 this gen, though not for VR-related reasons, but for some I can understand that point. With more and more Sony's games heading to PC anyway like you said, a trend which is likely to continue and probably into the PS6 generation as well, one could just get a powerful PC and enjoy the best exclusives from Sony and MS under one roof, plus get Nintendo's next system and have access to essentially everything, lol.
It’s seems like good hardware, with a few obvious issues, at a reasonable price compared to similar specced PC VR Headsets, though it’s still a lot of money.
But other than the frustrating hardware flaws it has 3 MAJOR problems imo
1. The game library is relatively small. Without enough system selling games and enough units sold even VR developers keep skipping it. As all it does is games this is the death blow. If it had a rich library a lot of the other issues could be forgiven.
2. It’s tethered to your PS5, when a cable-less headset with AR / MR as well as VR clearly seems like the future. At least as an option.
3. Meta Quest 3 beats it in most ways except fidelity and black levels. On almost everything else from games to apps, freedom, price and more PSVR2 gets firmly bested.
Excellent device, GT7 and Synapse are my favourites.
Same as i did with PSVR1 and Occulus.
It's a heavy screen on your face. Uncomfortable and disorienting. Not suited for gaming but rather just videos.
Removed - inappropriate
i love mine , i just wish there was more to do with it , not talking about just games , i hate that they removed vr from hulu i enjoyed watching hulu in vr, they need some type of like atmosphere media viewer , kind of what the apple headset does. watching a video in youtube/netflix/hulu/appletv it puts you in a movie theater or virtual house.
I'm having a blast with it, i play VR almost every day and there are plenty of cool games. I'm having a hard time to keep up! Kinda dissapointed in Sony's first-party support, granted but that goes for the PS5 in general as well. On the other hand, who knows what Sony's cooking up? There are a lot of 3rd party games on the release list that have my interest as well, so more goodness incoming for sure. The first year of PSVR 2 was one of the best years of the PSVR brand in general i think, PSVR 1's first year dwarfs in comparison.
@XenonKnight Indeed, hence why I haven't upgraded my desktop in many years is cause of cost. Some video cards alone are around 2K for optimum performance, although it is possible to get decent gaming computers for less than that. I grew up as a console gamer so I still like them, and their ease of use and relatively low entry cost are more reasons why they remain popular. I wouldn't hold my breath for a Vita 2 though. Between the Switch 2, Steamdeck and simular devices, and Sony trying to keep PSVR2 afloat, I think a Vita 2 would be severely undersupported.
@EVIL-C If it runs PS4 games think about it. I buy a Steam Deck 2 before I buy anything with the spyware that is Windows 10/11/12.
I’ve absolutely loved my time so far with PSVR2. Looking forward to the next year too.
I love how Sony is sad that a platform they chose not to develop for AT ALL isn't making money. Lol. It should have 3 or 4 big first party titles by now.
@Max_the_German a poll about a sony product and you still manage a poor attempt at trolling Microsoft 🙈
I bet there are people out there still on the fence whether or not to adopt. I bet they can see through the troll-like behaviour elicited in many of the comments. But let's dissect:
*There are platitudes of quest-salesmen in here, not telling you the real price of PC gaming.
*These quest 3-salesmen don't really own a PS5 or PSVR2 in many such cases.
*They complain about "the lack of games" and it has only been a year!!!! and we've seen so many ports, hybrid games and new titles that I'm just not keeping up.
I have enjoyed my PSVR2 and have a couple of titles already: GT7, RE 4+8, Walking Dead, Pistol Whip, Green Hell, Paper Beasts, Humanity, Thumber.
I will say that my gameplay sessions range between 1-2 hours at a time, and the biggest challenge for my PSVR2 is the competition with flatscreen-only RPG games that take up most of my time.
I expect SONY to deliver at least 1 game in year 2, and to see 4-5 good games from other developers in the spam of its second year.
The backlog/wishlist potential of PSVR2 is there. I mean I still don't own Beatsaber, Synapse, Arizona Sunshine 2, No Man's Sky, Legendary Tales, Moss I+II, Star Wars Tales, Red Matter series, Pavlov and so on.
Then there's the opportunity of the last ports from PSVR1 and other platform's games coming eventually.
Bought at launch and sold three months later when it became clear the support similar to gran turismo 7, RE Village etc just wouldn't be there.
I was fully expecting Alyx to arrive in the first wave of post launch announcements but nothing came.
It seems such a totally pointless system. All that work by Sony with seemingly no strategy or vision for its role in the overall ecosystem at all.
I think Sony should be praised for attempting to push VR forward. I don't see the issue as a Sony one to be honest - they're doing as much as anyone in this space. The problem is that the consumer behaviour and appetite just isn't at a critical mass.
Seems to me that we are simply not there on the technology side of things - and Sony can't really do anything about that. I don't want to wear this cumbersome equipment, I don't want to charge yet another device, and frankly, I don't even want gaming on VR - not ahead of other things anyway.
I want to be sat in the crowd at the football and watch the match however I want. I want to be stood at the front of a concert. I want to walk into my grocery store and see all the prices automatically compared against other stores. I want to see exactly where I need the screws to go on my flat pack furniture.
VR has so much amazing possibility, but honestly, gaming isn't the priority. We need to fulfill the purpose for wider society first.
It's not dissimilar to mobile phones. Mobile gaming took off long after everyone had a mobile in their hand. (And kudos to Nokia for driving that forward).
@NeonPizza fair enough. Whatever works best for you. I'm more than happy with PSVR2.
@EfYI “platitudes of quest-salesmen” 🤣🤣 - so true…
I like it but the sweet spot issue has been irritating for me. It feels like if I move I lose the centre spot, which leads to me moving unnaturally, resulting in stiffness or motion sickness.
In hindsight, this is something I should have criticised more in the review.
Good hardware by most accounts, but its just so disappointing that Sony won't double-dip their first party games for VR. I imagine Spider Man 2 VR, God of War VR or just a VR remaster of Killzone or Resistance in VR series would give the headset some badly needed must-have titles. Sony already has the games, just make them available for VR!
PSVR2 is awesome. Playing RE4 is worth the entry price alone. While there is a place for flat screen, god is it boring once you've played high quality VR.
Got mine for Xmas and love it, I enjoyed the first one but this is another level.
Half Life Alyx would be excellent but I want a new Astro more!
@BolkaRover No, I didn’t want to troll MS. It’s just a prime example for how to do it wrongly, and I see parallels with PSVR2.
@Max_the_German but there aren’t parallels. Microsoft have acquired a ton of big studios to address the problem of first party. The games won’t won’t be developed overnight.
Had mine at launch, disappointed yes I am. Yes there are a few quality titles. But there is also a lot of *****, just to bulk out the list. No Astrobot is criminal, Rush of blood, Starwars, wipeout, Polybius. All should of had port overs, I have said it before let's have more 3rd person adventures like Moss, Astrobot, also they should cater for gamers like me who love rail shooters. Imagine if Sega gave us a new Silpheed, Starwars arcade. Or Namco with Starwars battlepod, Starblade. Again games like this won't be made because of budgets/sales etc... the industry is ***** to be honest. Its the Same recycled crap year in year out. Personally Sony have already given up on PSVR2, im starting to regret buying one.
Sure I'm interested but I'm not willing to spend that much on hardware that's been abandoned completely by Sony. It's already Vita 2.0 in that it's only eating off the generosity of third party studios.
@BolkaRover MS better should have done all that acquisitions in 2018 or 2019, to have enough exclusive games for the Series X/S. This generation is almost lost for them already.
@Shepherd_Tallon Glad to see Sorcery hasn't been completely forgotten!
@Juanalf at least with the vita they made quite a few well received exclusives (Tearaway, Gravity Rush, Little Big Planet, among others). But still, I feel the same way I felt about the vita. As long as there enough great games on it, it doesn't matter if they're first or third party. They're still incredibly fun to play.
Sony has never been able to support multiple hardware at once. It always surprises me that people are surprised about the lack of support for an additional hardware. And there people asking for a Sony dedicated handheld. And the same reason I consider the PS Portal ideal for Sony and Playstation.
PSVR2 being confirmed was one of the main reasons I got a PS5 in the first place, after loving the PSVR1 so much. Yet, one year after its release I still haven't bought one because I haven't seen enough good games to justify it.
Hopefully some more get announced for this year, otherwise I might look into the Quest 3 instead.
It's absurd and such a missed opportunity that this headset doesn't support watching 3D videos at all, especially considering Sony's movie business. 🤦🏻
I bought the original PSVR.
And because of the lack of software available that really made good use of it, I was highly disappointed. So maybe that coloured my decision, not to buy PSVR2.
Ended up using it mostly just to watch movies in 3D.
Because of this, I naturally was not inclined to invest in PSVR2.
But I do agree that VR has lots of interesting potential. But, personally, the money involved is too much for something that I regard as a “novelty”.
@NeonPizza Hope you get a good price for your PSVR2.
We’ll miss your positive commentary on future PSVR2 articles but our loss will be the quest sites gain
@naruball Oh I'm a giant Vita fan too, it is a jrpg farm but yeah third parties came through for the system as well as the Jailbreak scene. My beef is with Sony itself for whatever reason just abandoning the PSVR2 when it has so much potential, I will definitely get it when the price comes down a bit
@Ooccoo_Jr The Philips CD-i and Virtual boy were abandoned as quickly as the PSVR2. I suppose the V in PSVR stands for Vita as a lovely reference to how quickly it was abandoned by Sony. But some people will still tell you ho great it was to justify their waste of money
I would draw a distinction between the hardware and the software. The hardware is excellent: 4K HDR, wider FOV than the Quest 2 and even the Apple Vision Pro, inside out tracking (it was about time, but that was PSVR1's greatest weakness), and easy setup. The passthrough isn't in color like the Quest 3 and the Vision Pro, but the difference in passthrough clarity between the Quest 2 and the PSVR2 is an undeniable generational leap. PSVR2 isn't equipped to handle AR and MR games, but those games are few and far between (and are usually an afterthought).
The software seems to be the problem. To me personally, a launch year with 2 full Resident Evil VR games is a strong launch year and everything else is icing on the cake, but I know I am in the minority. $600 is a lot the spend on a peripheral, particularly if you don't care for Resident Evil games. I spent around $400 for the Quest 2 for just Resident Evil 4 VR, and stayed for everything else. Can you tell I like Resident Evil? I love Resident Evil.
Anyway, software. PSVR1 developed a good library over 7 years, the Quest has developed a great one (with some notable exclusives) over 4 years, and the PSVR2 has developed a smaller one over 1 year with some really nice exclusives but no AAA first party exclusives. This isn't a big problem to me, but I understand. If Nintendo made a VR headset, I would have wanted a Mario or Zelda VR at launch to really sell the system; meanwhile, PSVR2 had 2 big third party exclusives at launch, and one of them was a climbing simulator. PlayStation doesn't have the same first party IP power that Nintendo has IMHO, but I sure as hell wanted a free Astrobot VR game like the free PS5 one and I didn't get one. PSVR2 has had great third party support, but certain third party games like Assassin's Creed Nexus VR and Samba de Amigo VR are (ambiguously-timed) exclusives to Quest. First party support has yet to materialize, and may never come.
I'm patient for new first-party PSVR2 games, but I also have a Quest 2 and kept my PSVR1 with its back catalogue intact. If I was PSVR2 only, I would have a lot more to complain about (mostly why Assassin's Creed and Samba de Amigo aren't on PSVR2).
@OptimusPrime1 My biggest single complaint about PSVR2 as of now isn't the lack of first party exclusives, its the lack of 3D Blu Ray support specifically and the lack of 3D video support in general. I amassed a huge collection of 3D Blu Rays for my PSVR1, and now they collect dust in a closet.
@EnragedGibbon Late 40s. Glad to hear you're enjoying VR and I truly hope more people do.
playstation has demonstrated with gt7, re village, re 4, call of the mountain, NMS what ps5+psvr2 can do. And together with all the smaller titles, I would call this a solid first year for psvr2 titles.
Since playstation does not talk, it is now to be seen what will come next.
@jorel262 definitely not too old pal, I'm mid 40's and loving it (the wife takes the piss big time mind!).
Would be a massive shame if VR were to die but hopefully the PC thing may help...
@JAMes-BroWWWn I think by now we know Sony won't ever release a handheld with exclusive games. All we're asking for is something similar to Steam deck. Which I think is doable. If it can play ps4/ps5 games, we'll have hundreds of options and no additional time will be spent on it by first party studios.
@Pinkman You're definitely missing something then. Literally less than 5% of the games are zombie shooters. Also, every one of them are good.
But if you want something else, I can recommend Tetris, Moss, Ghostbusters, GT7 (of course), Synapse, Garden of the Sea, Demeo, Crossfire, Walkabout Minigolf, Ghost Signal, Humanity, The Room, Townsmen, and /or A Fisherman's Tale, to name a few.
@Gringorilla appreciate the list, I will definitely check some of those out. After Arizona Sunshine, resident evil 4 and 8, switchback, after the fall and walking dead, my trigger fingers need a rest!
On this website, user ratings for RE4 264, user ratings for Synapse only 4.
This is ridiculous.
