The campaign has been out for two weeks and the multiplayer and co-op mode one week, so now it's time to share your own review score of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. We published our own Review in Progress of its single player offering, and then updated to a final score of 8/10 after having enough time to play everything Infinity Ward made for this year's entry.
We concluded: "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 marks a serious return to form for the FPS series, with a solid campaign to run through and multiplayer modes more than worth investing your time in. It may be a bit confusing on the back end, but Modern Warfare 2 is the best any Call of Duty title has been at launch in a very long time."
Now you've had time to play the game, what do you make of it so far? Place your vote in our poll, and then expand on your thoughts in the comments below. Depending on the overall community rating it gets, Modern Warfare 2 may appear in our Best PS5 Games lists.

8/10 for me. Solid game, good MP although maps are questionable along with the annoying as F one shot rifles!
The weapon unlock system is what I scored this down for. It’s just a bit too much. It’s great fun though and worthy of the 8
I only play the campaign and I’ve got to Recon by Fire, but I’m loving it so far.
Im ready for WZ2. Some of the new multiplayer maps are trash!
I can't really vote so far.
I didn't play a lot of the campaign, which is maybe why I was so disappointed from the MW1 campaign.
The Multiplayer is great. But it's not that special. The maps are good.
The Koop Mode is flawed and has to be patched. So far I would give it a 7/10
11% voted terrible lol. 10% of them are trolls who never played it.
It’s a really fun game w EXCELLENT graphics, solid gun play, a really good MP and Spec Ops instead of that stupid zombies gabbage. I voted an 8 but I’d give it more like an 8.5 or 8.75 to be more accurate.
All in all it’s one of the better COD offerings out there, although my all time favorite complete package is still COD: MW2 from 2009. That game’s campaign is (IMHO) the best there has ever been by a country mile, the MP was absolutely fantastic and the Spec Ops was the best it ever has been (along w/ MW3). I absolutely loved playing and replaying those missions!
I only play the campaign, the graphics and sound is excellent. 9/10 for that, but 3/10 for the most frustrating campaign of all times. It almost felt like I‘m playing Returnal or another kind of „die 52667274774848 times in a row" game
Easily a 9 the campaign was great and the mp is super fun. It sucks having to wait three years to see the conclusion to this trilogy because I’m invested in an actual cod story for the first time since the original MW trilogy
@DETfaninATL in regards to your campaign point about og MW 2 that’s got to be nostalgia talking because that campaign wasn’t nowhere near as well written as this one or unique and variety filled.
@DETfaninATL I agree. I played that campaign at least a dozen times (literally). I played the MP a lot with a few mates as well and to this day I still bring my PS3 to a friends place so we can do Spec Ops in couch coop.
The SP remaster on PS4 is pretty good too.
Favella is my favourite spec ops mission btw.
I'm enjoying it a lot..i have not jumped into the campaign yet as i'm still playing gotham knights (another under appreciated game) so i've only played tdm,free for all and invasion to break things up a bit...i gave it an 8..
It’s a return to form for the franchise for me.
Multiplayer is so much fun
Ground war and invasion are excellent.
I give it an 8.5.
Having no barracks is unforgivable
What is wrong with you people? This game sucks..it just looks good..the movement is awful, it’s missing so many thing the other games had at Launch such as hc mode, leaderboards , split screen etc…and you have to unlock 20 guns just to get 1 attachment..I don’t think anyone who voted actually played the game
It's good but the content is really lacking and the UI is the worst thing I've ever had to experience
@KerryYourWeight Hate to break it to you kiddo but I already got gold camo for my FSS Hurricane and think it is a good game. The movement and the gunplay is easily the best part of the game which makes it a good game along withthe campaign. For it to be lacking in content and have the most terrible UI is what makes me give it a 7/10.
@KerryYourWeight i think older gamers are usually very generous ; i don’t get it either . i have the game myself but only because COD has that niche of turning your brain off and quickly joining a match to shoot something for a few minutes , and it won’t be another for 2 years .
8 out of 10 for me.
The gameplay basics in multiplayer are fantastic. The campaign’s story is ridiculous but it’s super entertaining. It’s a visual standout on PS5.
Where I score it down is how buggy elements of it are. The campaign isn’t bad in that regard but multiplayer has a litany of bugs, mostly centered around the user interface and menus.
@KerryYourWeight
I’ve got 25 hours in multiplayer so far and I think its basic gameplay changes are fantastic.
My main issues deal with its bugginess, especially the menus and user interface.
@LIMA
It didn’t bother me.
But I grew up playing Contra, Castlevania, and Metal Slug.
So I’m used to dying a ton and trying again. Returnal was my 2021 GOTY because it felt like a modern interpretation of a classic Arcade shooter.
@Greger22
I agree that the balance on the map front is so so.
Los Atmas is my favorite map by a country mile. It’s a neat spin on the classic 3-line COD map layout, with so many ways to cross lines and set up ambushes.
By comparison, the map with the Formula One racetrack is my most hated COD map of all time. It’s just awful. The sight lines outside of the buildings have cover that is far too predictable. So moving outside is an exercise in frustration because the movement from cover to cover is balanced more like a Cold War map. That design works for Cold War’s fast movement and slide canceling. But it’s a nightmare on the slower movement of MWII. If you try to sprint to cover you will be murdered 100% of the time. It forces you back inside the main building for movement, which isn’t terrible in and of itself but even then the sight lines seem optimized for a game like Cold War, where you can slide cancel to get to cover while breaking their aim.
Everything else is in between, leaning more towards average or mediocre. Las Atmas is the only standout map in my opinion.
@Hurblyburbly
I haven’t played Ground War yet. I’ve been playing Domination, Hardpoint, and TeamDM with cross play turned off. I’ve never been fond of playing with PC players.
But I’m going to try GW this weekend.
10/10. Best Call of Duty game I’ve played in years. Never thought I’d see the day. It would’ve been my personal GOTY if it wasn’t for Elden Ring.
8/10 for me. Could have been a 9 if not for the bugs, but they're being handled fast. Kudos to the QA team!
Also the front end UI is...not good.
It's probably my second favorite CoD campaign behind Black Ops 2, and the best MP CoD experience in 10 years.
Genuinely enjoying it.
@OrtadragoonX
You might be best trying invasion first.
20v20 and bots to make up the numbers. Basically it’s a huge team death match on cracking maps.
Ground war maps are even bigger with vehicles.
Both modes are great fun.
Give them a good go mate and sure you’ll have fun
Huge Overwatch 2 fan that is on the fence if i want to pick up this Cod or just want for the future Cod’s to hit Gamepass and try them there. It has been so long since I’ve played one that i don’t know if it’s even worth getting back into it. Good to see ya’ll’s comments looking like it’s really good. Most reviews for it seem more positive than most years.
@dark_knightmare2 I won’t disagree that there’s SOME nostalgia to my comment, but the memorability of that campaign is far above anything in this or just about any of the other COD games. I mean Shepherd betraying and killing Ghost? Defending the US capitol and White House against foreign invaders? Heck, seeing the US homeland under invasion? And who could ever forget the infamous ‘No Russian’? I’d argue that the writing in the OG was better just because of memorability. Maybe the dialogue itself isn’t written as well but the plot narrative was WAY better. Well, at least IMHO. To each their own for sure!
I'm only interested in the campaign, and I found it to be excellent...
Campaign was ok 9/10 but Co-op missions are pretty lame and the enemy AI on those missions are 1/10 abysmal so it dropped to 8/10 . Not gonna play multiplayer because —> no trophies = no game
Too expensive... Need to wait for a promo.
I’m playing at 120fps for the first time on team death match an it’s incredible imo. The best COD to date!!
8/10 for me. I haven’t touched the multiplayer yet, but I have beaten the campaign and it was fantastic. The only reason I knocked it down two pegs was due to a few gimmicks in the game that wasn’t necessarily bad (the crafting), but it was introduced twice, and the second time wasn’t necessarily fun unlike the first offering. There were also a few missions that weren’t as fun as the others. Aside from that, it was seriously a blast. That said, I hadn’t played a CoD game since Black Ops 2 so maybe I’m easier to please regarding this franchise.
N/A (Not Applicable), I won't be touching this game until it's included with PS+ Essentials or Extra/Premium.
I wouldn't rate it yet because it can change so much after warzone & updates that it's not even the product you bought anymore lol
@Would_you_kindly
Review score usually are given when the game is released. If all the content is not playable when the game is released it is the publishers falt. Did you have the same patience when you played bf2042? Hey this game is not ready yet, review this game after all the work is done
@showface didn't play bf2042 because I wasnt going to pay £70 for a multiplayer only game with no campaign lol & I was just saying I wouldn't rate it yet because when I bought modern warfare 2019 idve rated that a solid 8 or 9 out of 10 & that would be much lower after warzone integration
@Would_you_kindly I was just saying LOL. You sure have your opinion on game you never played
Im just saying
@Would_you_kindly remember to keep same mentality for every game from now on. Dont judge before the last update is released
@showface I sure do ! & I played the beta it was terrible (:
@Would_you_kindly So you made your review based on beta but here you say do not review this yet because there is updates coming?
Im just saying i have heard enough. Take care
@KerryYourWeight exactly. how could anyone rate this above a 6 is shocking to me. I play hardcore mode and that was the biggest let down for me on launch. no where was it stated before released that “tier 1” would be delayed. sorry this cod is trash. lack of features and hardcore mode is a big issue.
How can anyone be content paying £70 for a 4 hour campaign which has some missions that last minutes. Most ridiculous missions also like vehicle jumping up a highway! It's a 6/10. Multiplayer is a buggy mess too
8-9 since i dnot care about single player and it isn't the reason I bought this game. Having a blast in MP
@rick1987 How can you be so daft to think ppl buy CoD for campaign?
Bet you'd buy Counter Strike or PUBG and moan on how its single player sucks...
@Tr3mm0r Everyone has always bought cod since it came out for its campaign. I've owned consoles since the dawn of the time and cod was always played for its. campaign. The original modern warfare, call of duty on pc, call of duty 2 you telling me these weren't great campaigns??? Mong.
I voted 9, first call of of duty since the rebooted MW this is a worthy sequel. Been enjoying the mp and having a blast.
I'm sensing 23% didn't buy the game yet rated it anyways.
The game is decent, but a lot of bugs/glitches need fixing. My main issue is the game freezing and getting kicked out of lobbies randomly. They need to wake up and smell the coffee and get to work!
