It has been almost a full year since Sony's last PlayStation Showcase, where it now typically debuts some of its biggest first-party projects alongside major announcements from other publishers. Last year's event played host to the reveals of Marvel's Spider-Man 2 and Marvel's Wolverine, as well as a new God of War Ragnarok trailer. Since then, we've seen very little in the way of PlayStation Studios content — the company had an unexpectedly excellent State of Play event to fill the E3 hole, but that was all about third-party developers.
So, as we approach the month where for the past two years Sony has gone big with a livestream all about its first-party efforts, do you expect it does the same for 2022? Will Sony host a PlayStation Showcase next month? That's the question we pose to you in the latest Push Square poll.
It certainly appears to have the content to put a major show on, but whether Sony actually follows through with one is an entirely different story. Outside of the aforementioned titles, all we have confirmed out of PlayStation Studios is a multiplayer take on The Last of Us, and deals Sony has signed with external companies — some of which it has now taken under its wing. Besides these projects, we know little else. What's Team Asobi working on? When will Firesprite Games announce at least one of its many titles in development? Where's PixelOpus in all of this?
There's a long list of developers Sony could call upon for reveals and new game announcements, but do you think it actually will in a PlayStation Showcase next month? Place your vote in our poll and expand on your choice in the comments below.

I certainly hope so! They had a decent first half of the year, but I want to know what's coming beyond Ragnarok and the Marvel games now!
Bloodborne remaster, u heard it here 1st, they gotta ride the wave EldenRing b4 it fades away..
@pimpjuice Yeah, you’re the first to mention a Bloodborne remaster 😉
Yes. On the 7th for Odin's day during the 9th w̶o̶r̶l̶d̶ month
To be honest, I'm leaning towards no — I don't think they will. Now obviously, there's a very high chance I'm wrong here, but I can totally see September coming and going without a showcase of any kind.
I don't think it's a "definitely not" scenario, but it's a "probably not" for me.
It might not be in Sept, but its coming.
2023 is when we should really start to see the death of cross gen game releases. PS5 supply is improving so its time to kick this generation on.
I'm expecting Sony to blow our socks off to keep the demand high and hit their very punchy sales forecast.
Small state of play. That’s it.
Spider-Man 2 says yes.
(Got his phone number from my secret source people insider)
Edit
If Sammy says no you can bet we get an announcement next week.
Seems like a lock. They need to build up excitement for players leading into TLOU Pt1 and GOW.
I think they've got more than a few new very exciting IP up their sleeves but only a couple are ready to be shown and I wouldn't be surprised if they're dieing to show them off in a showcase this year. There's definitely another surprise coming similar to the Wolverine level of surprise, of course it won't be another Marvel game or Insomniac but from a dev we wasn't expecting. Some online service games that have been talked about might show up in teasers maybe. Naughtydogs TLoU factions might be shown a litte with a little actual gameplay teaser. All just guess work at the mo as usual but I'm 90% confident a showcase is soon this year
I wish, but I’m not holding my breath. I’d like a chunky Sony presentation and a chunky Nintendo Direct that outlines the first half of 2023, but I have a feeling only Xbox will do something sort of like this… though that’s largely because all of their 2022 titles slipped to Q1/2 2023.
In all honesty, I just want to know whether or not Final Fantasy 16 and BotW2 will cause me deep anxiety and overlap. Lol. But after three relatively light years of releases, I’m curious what 2023 will be like. If Sony does offer up anything, I really hope we see something, anything about Pragmata.
no point they will just say later on delayed until 2023
I'd be a little shocked if they didn't. They got to show off actual GOWR gameplay somewhere right?
I can imagine a tiny teaser trailer of very large dense trees moving around in the distance with thudding giant footstep sounds and then in a scientific trailer type office there's a quarter filled see through plastic cup vibrating ripples with every footstep thudding (yes inspired by Jurassic Park) and then the screen fades to black with the word Dino Crisis slowly appearing on screen. Most likely be a Capcom showcase if not a PS show. Can you imagine that tho
@Korgon
Gamescom.
Nop, not happening.
What if: Spider-Man 2 gets a trailer in a PlayStation Showcase and then in the Disney Marvel Games Showcase at D23 expo they show an extended gameplay showcase
Not sure. Could see it happening given we know very little about what's after GoW Ragnarok but on the other hand things you may have expected in a PS Showcase (given PS marketing or PS exclusivity) may or are appearing in other events like Gamescom Opening Night Live, Marvel Showcase, Capcom TGS, Ubisoft Forward, etc. so Sony may settle with just a normal State of Play and a GoW Ragnarok State of Play.
@JJ2
I feel like Sony would hold that for their own show. Plus they don't seem to give Gamescom much love these days. Things can change though.
I definitely think it will happen next month, but I'm not confident in it being all that good. Last year's was such a crushing disappointment that felt so reserved and badly structured, and I have a feeling the same will happen this year.
I still stand by my prediction that their killer State of Play back in June will be hands down the best presentation Sony does this year.
@Korgon
The wind that blows is all that anybody knows 😅
A little trailer for gamescom wouldn’t hurt. Don’t take my ‘predictions’ too seriously though 😀
I really wouldn't think so. Sony seems set for the rest of the year, and I feel like most of their big releases are at least another whole year out. I can see another targeted showcase, mostly of the VR variety, coming out this year. But, otherwise, I think they'll wait until early next year.
Some quick looks at Hogwarts and Forspoken leading up to their releases, full unveilings of Insomniac's Marvel line up, The Last of Us multiplayer setting up Playstation's F2P future, some crowd pleasing sequels like GoT 2, and the beginning trinkle of their acquisition spree. Again, none of that sounds like it would be showcased this year. And Playstation's not one for surprise releases only a few months out from announcement.
They won't have a show. It's that simple.
If they have nothing this year, then man, what a massive letdown
Its pretty pathetic when Sony didn't own all these extra studios we got more announcements than we do now.
When you consider the fact that we have no concrete exclusive news for 2023, then yes… of course!
I think they'll do one in October about a month before Ragnarok
it'd be nice...but I doubt it.
let's just be surprised IF it happens and move on as if nothing was supposed to happen WHEN it doesn't.
Let's focus on things that are happening, like Gamescom / TGS etc.
Possibly.we do need a new PlayStation showcase.word up son
There has to be a psvr2 reveal at some point,hopefully with a blow out showing all the games and the tech.An early 2023 release means they have to soon....will they?🤣🤣
"Possibly not quite sure" and "sony is hard to predict now" really should be combined into one poll result. I voted for "not quite sure" since it's really a coin toss, but it's kind of the same thing as they're hard to predict. It feels like #NintendoE3 again.
The big question is really when will they announce PSVR2 preorders and pricing. I think those two questions go together. They don't really have anything else going on other than Ragnarok and VR2, which means we'll get 30 minutes of TLOU Reremakester and the live action Jak 3 weekly TV series we didn't know we hated until we see it, followed by Walmart telling us we missed VR2 preorders by a week but we still won't know the MSRP, only the eBay pricing.
Nah, sony seems to wait to show off games in depth until they are somewhat ready. Maybe a psvr2 thing but that's so niche.
Yes they will & it will go like this - Jim Ryan walks on stage & shows everyone a List & Trailer of more PlayStation Exclusives going to PC. He is happy & walks off stage. END of show
I know I bang on about that all the time but I still LOVE the PlayStation brand(& always will) & i can't wait for a proper PlayStation show (No VR & PC cr@p PLEASE tho)
I don't think so COVID was a thing, most games we would probably see about now could of missed a year in development if not more. I'd sooner have games coming within a year than show a game that's 3 years away.
When there are more consoles in stores than they can sell, Sony will probably consider advertising their product again.
But in all seriousness... if the PSVR2 is coming Q1 2023 as has been foretold, they will have to show the headset in action with the launch line-up soon.
A week before TLOU releases they’ll do an entire showcase dedicated to that.
I could see one state of play in the coming months for GoW.
Sony has been mostly silent for a long time now. I assume they think they will be successful regardless, so why bother? That’s pretty much how they conduct themselves. They are nothing like they use to be.
I would love to see one happening, but the lack of communication does have me worried.
You should have put will people be outraged because something happend with fake hype.
@NEStalgia TLOU "reremakester" LOL.
Best definition of that game
Live service game 1/20 that no one gives a ***** about.
Sony got nothin'.
Here's hoping they host one this year too. They have quite a bit of content to show.
