The PS5 Pro has been officially announced, and we've all seen the price. It's all anyone's been talking about since the reveal, and there's a genuine sense of disbelief surrounding the fact that Sony's charging $700 / £700 for its upgraded console. And for the record, we're in the same boat, expressing our bemusement in a dedicated Talking Point: Is PS5 Pro Way Too Expensive? article (the answer, it's broadly agreed, is yes).
Anyway, the backlash has got us thinking: if the PS5 Pro wasn't so eye-wateringly expensive, would you actually be interested in buying it? Assuming the lack of a disc drive (sold separately) doesn't put you off to begin with, of course!
In our previous poll, we asked the Push Square community if they were sold on the system, following Mark Cerny's overview of the hardware. Just under 6,500 people voted, and the vast majority — 84% — basically said that they weren't interested. That's a notable degree of negativity, given that the Pro is targeting the kind of hardcore crowd that frequents this website.
So, the Pro's got a real uphill battle on its hands. But again, if the price tag was more palatable, how would you feel about the supercharged system? Has this talk of a bigger GPU and new rendering techniques got you wishing that the console was more affordable? Or would you still be struggling to care?
As always, have your say in our polls, and then be brutally honest in the comments section below.
Would you buy a PS5 Pro if it was, in your opinion, reasonably priced? (4,037 votes)
- Yes, the price is the only obstacle
- Maybe, I'd be tempted
- No, I'm fine with the standard PS5
How much would you be willing to pay for the PS5 Pro? (4,436 votes)
- $649 / £649
- $599 / £599
- $549 / £549
- $499 / £499
- I'm happy to pay the full $699 / £699
- I wouldn't be buying one regardless of price

I will buy multiple consoles because I like supporting small companies and Sony needs a boost since Microsoft is breathing down their necks so every penny counts.
No. I don't think we've seen the base PS5 pushed so I have no need for a Pro console.
There is a $600 Xbox Series X with 2TB of (slow) storage. It does have a disc drive, but expecting a console with far better specs to be sold for the same price or less is asinine.
I'd certainly buy one at the price, but I'd like it to be under 600.
It makes me worry how much a ps6 will be.
The base PS5 hasn't even been slightly pushed so far IMO. And if tech experts tell me that it has actually been maxed out, then it seems to be one of the most half-arsed and underwhelming consoles ever.
Nope, PS5 isn’t even close to being pushed. That being said, if it exists then it should be the price that the PS5 is just now, with the base console given a price cut. If the argument is that the original is still selling and still cutting edge and so still worth the base amount, then why does this exist at all?
We have barely gotten any PS5 games that really seem like they aren’t good enough in performance mode. Maybe FF7Rebirth but that seems like a Square issue that I hope they continue working on. I don’t think developers will be dropping performance mode anytime soon, especially with how it’s the dominant mode.
For what's on offer as an upgraded model, I think $600-$650 USD with a disk drive included would've been fair. Realistically the PS5 Pro was always going to be at least $100 more than the base PS5, but that $700 price tag with no disk drive is an insane ask.
@The_Wailing_Doom The Xbox you're talking about is designed to be a limited edition. It's not proclaiming to be a boost nor taking the place of the standard model.
And the storage isn't slow at all. I don't know if you've actually used both systems but installing, transferring, loading are all faster on Xbox for multiplatform games.
@The_Wailing_Doom And literally no one thinks Microsoft selling that Xbox at that price makes sense. It's unfair to use "bad business decision" as the basis to justify a bad business decision.
I was hoping for £549.99 - £599.99 before it was announced.
Would definitely be day 1 at that price.
I've been considering getting a 2nd PS5 so I can have one upstairs on my monitor and one downstairs on the TV.
I was holding out to find out more info on the Pro but the price has completely turned me off it.
I think I'll just pick up the slim digital model for £389
@Decoy_Snake Alan wake 2, wukong and pretty much any other UE5 engine game killing PS5. Their all internal resolution is sub 720p
I gotta be honest, even if i get hate, those that would only pay £25 more is just delusional and ignorant at the cost of such technology. Though I do wonder what the reasoning would be.
£599.99 and with a disk drive I probably would have
I was willing to pay £630 with a disc drive. Perhaps I’d have done £650. But I was expecting only 1tb
If it turned out in a similar way the PS4 Pro was and they just decided to sell it at $500 after dropping the original model down to $400 I might have at least been tempted. (I know that never would've happened.)
At $700 though (technically $800 or so since I'd have liked to get the disc drive and stand with it) there's just no chance I'm paying that for something that's just a little better than what I already got.
Historically, it seems like 'pro' versions of existing consoles don't do that well since developers are hesitant to code to the higher specs, given the number of 'standard' consoles that have already sold. Requiring 'pro' specs could obviously limit game sales. I'm sure Sony is aware of this, so maybe this won't be a problem for PS5 Pro.
No, because I'm still waiting for a slimmer revision, hopefully with a more decent shape and size like the ps4 fat.
I don't care for 4k resolution so this pro version is already op for my taste.
Not really. I have a PS5 with a disc drive and it works fine. I would only replace it if it broke. Or just do like I did when my xbone disc drive died and waited for the next system that was BC. So if I get another PS it will be the 6 ( at this point I think this is my last PS though. Way too much buyers remorse for me. Aside from GamePass I feel the same about Xbox right now so don’t @ me. )
@MindfulGamer hence why PSSR exists, can upscale even when developers choose not to.
The question is - where do you draw the line? It's not just 700 quid. If I want to utilise my library of disc games then I'll need a drive. Then there's my Plus subscription which is due for renewal soon. 100 quid for the year. Before you know it, you've spent a grand on gaming, something that is merely a hobby. At what point do you start to ask whether it's truly worth it?
Two things can be right.
£700 without a disc drive is insanity, but so is trying to act as if Sony owe you a £499 premium pro option of a console lmao
The PS5 Pro is really the most useless and unnecessary refresh to ever release in current history.
The base PS5 is still good enough for what it supposed to be doing, playing games. But even that is more questionable now that Sony is making more consoles than games.
The PS5 has yet to be used to its full advantage since all we keep getting are PS4 remasters and remakes.
It's also comedy gold how they're already talking about 8K when there's no viable 8K displays in the market at all. If the base PS5 couldn't even do proper 4K, what makes the Pro being able to do 8K? You really can't make this up.
Not to mention the lack of a disc drive is extremely concerning and clear that Sony is prioritizing digital. Especially since you cannot buy digital games outside of the PS Store where you can get games at a discount. Nintendo and Microsoft allows their digital games to be sold outside of the eShop and Xbox Store respectively. Why can't Sony? Because they want to monopolize the market at much as possible.
Overall, Sony has been very disappointing, anti-consumer, greedy, and arrogant. I truly hate this era of PlayStation.
@DonJorginho It's crazy, I could buy one, but it's terrible value for money. I'd sooner spend that on a 4070 Desktop.
@SlipperyFish Hence why Xbox have been doing this for years. You can play Gears of War at 120fps on Series S.
@mkr I think the price is an absolute joke, and I can’t stand it at all, but I can’t lie have to say that I can and probably will get this console because I’m lucky enough to have disposable income with the work I do to get one, but I still think the price is damn near predatory especially with the £99.99 disc drive add on.
I guess there’s just a balance, if anyone was expecting it to be £499.99 then they were never going to be happy and this pro model was never for them in the first place.
The two games I've played the most on the base PS5 are FF16 and FF7 Rebirth. Both games struggle mightily in fidelity mode and could really do with a boost. I was interested in trading in my PS5 for a pro model but at £800 (with disc drive add on) this is unrealistic and just downright stupid.
I would have been willing to pay a max of £200 on top of the standard PS5 but as it stands it's £400 more than the standard if I want a disc drive with the PS5 Pro
If it was £549 with the disc drive properly attached and the stand, or even better, a less ridiculous shape so it could sit on its side, I would consider selling my original PS5 for and £300 and paying the difference.
It's crazy to think I bought my PS5 at launch for £550 with a spare controller, Demon's Souls and Spiderman.
@__jamiie for a first party game? Ok? When PSSR will work on 8,500 games? 120fps at what resolution? Dont think it's 4k is it. And what's xbox got to do with it anyway?
@__jamiie for once I agree with you. I don't think we've seen what the ps5 is really capable of yet. The ps5 Pro is obviously aimed at the enthusiast gamers who usually prefer their uber pc setups. I'm happy with my ps5 for now but once the ps5 Pro launches and we see exactly what it brings to the table I'll be able to ask myself if it's something I really need or if it's something I want...there is a big difference especially at the price point (I think it's reasonable although I'd obviously like it to be cheaper.) As a recent sim racer convert and looking to upgrade my current racing setup if the racing games are as good as GT7 looks on the ps5 Pro then it's a no brainer for me as a new racing rig and a ps5 Pro would still be cheaper than me buying a new pc setup..a lot cheaper.
@Old-Red So you expect a something better than what you already have, but for the same price? Talk about entitlement.
If it was $600, I’d consider.
@nessisonett I never agree with you. But this time I do. Thanks.
£800 if you include disc drive and stand etc. initially seemed way too much but then I remembered I bought my PS5 when they were rare and had to pay £600 for a bundle I didn't particularly want (so maybe £500 for the console) and later added a 2TB SSD for another £150 so while I don't currently intend to get the new pro I can see it's not totally on a different price scale than I've already paid.
PS5 Pro: PS5 No.
@BeerMonster it's a slight upgrade of a four year old console that cost £450 without the extra controller and games. It would essentially be £100 more than I paid four years ago. How is that entitled?
I went £549 as I’d still need £100 for a drive.
If I didn't already own a PS5 and it came with the disc drive and stand and was cheaper. It would need all of those things to even be considered.
From that outlook is the only way I could see myself being tempted. I believe the PS4 to the PS4 Pro was a much larger gap and was more substantial. This generation needs more games though. It is really as simple as that.
It should be £535.11 in the UK regardless. Getting our pants pulled down yet again.
Selling it without a disc drive or even vertical stand at premium price, when developers haven’t even begun to unlock standard PS5’s potential is a bit silly. But £550 I think would be fair for first time buyers without a PS5 yet.
Not sure what people expected with the normal console even increasing price in some places since 2020… $700 seemed like best case scenario to me… what I fully expected for months… I guess the disc drive doesn’t bother me since I’m fully digital now anyways…
Honestly not sure why people think ps5 hasn’t been pushed yet lol… space marine 2 feels like it’s running like 20FPS in performance mode with how much is going on in a couple scenes during the campaign.
Well we know my answer.
Sony are utter trash for making it 2tb forcing you to buy at £700 which could have been £600 easily at 1tb and given you the buyer the option of buying more money if you wish.
They made it disc less, so you have that option.
Though they don’t want you to buy a disc drive really.
So why not with the memory, total business greed strategy.
No, I wouldn't. And the reason is that four years into the cycle of ps5 and series x I still don't feel like this is next gen. And thats because this gen has been cluttered with cross gen releases and remakes. I would love a list of games that are this generation only and compare if with a list which was only released on ps4 in the same timeframe.
@SlipperyFish It's 1440p at 120fps on Series S.
The reason I mentioned Xbox is because we're talking about the PS5 Pro and if it offers good value at £700. Many of the features Sony are charging for, have been free on Xbox for a long time.
@BIG3 on the nail..this cross gen parity has really harmed the progress of the current gen. All these bloody remakes and remasters haven't helped either. I think the only remake that was an actual benefit to the ps5 was demons souls.
@Old-Red It's called inflation, I'd love to get a bigger house, or a better car for the same price I paid for the previous ones, sadly it doesn't happen. Welcome to the real world.
Doing some very quick internet sleuthing I priced it out.
It's a $250 premium over the regular PS5 Slim Digital 280 is you take out the price for a stand. But 250 for this example
(700 PS5 pro - 450 for digital slim = 250)
$100 to $175 range for 1 TB SSD (Samsung 990 Pro).
SOOOO...that means it is really only $75 to $150 for the estimated 45% increase in horsepower.
Sure, it is still a lot of money, it's almost 1000 Canadian Dollars for this thing. I just don't think Sony is that far out to lunch considering how much the base models already are.
I'm still disappointed that I may be priced out of this new system but that's a ME problem not a SONY problem.
The price is steep, but the sticking point for me at least is that it doesn't come with the disc drive. Like they seriously couldn't have just thrown that in and given players the option right out of the box?
@Northern_munkey Thanks for agreeing! 😉 This generation is, and will forever be known as an expensive letdown.
Hopefully Xbox Six and PS6 will actually impress us all.
@JackiePriest
What drives me crazy about it is that I will need a disc drive and they are already being scalped on eBay and Etsy. Make it 789 and include the drive then at least I will be guaranteed a drive at launch.
@Pranwell I think it's more likely that early adopters like me were hoping to cash in their aging console and pick up a newer model to tide them over for another 4 or so years. An upgrade at £700 with no disc drive or stand is insane.
@BeerMonster mate, it's been 4 years. Inflation don't work like that. Are you trying tell me your pay has nearly doubled in that time? Sounds like you've been chuggin' too much of Sony's special brew Alcopup. They're aiming to rinse the whales, nothing more.
This has got to be the worst PlayStation generation ever.i been with PlayStation since the beginning and they been horrible.word up son
@Bamila
Developers really have not got the knack with Unreal 5 yet, especially when optimising for consoles. And remember Unreal 5 is meant for all devices.
Some of this is issue is with developers not optimising that well on PS5.
I bet one of Sonys top developers with their own in house engine could produce either of those games you mentioned with a lot better results visually.
@__jamiie I tried researching what you're saying but can't find what youre saying. I can see Gears 5 runs at 120fps @ 1440p but nothing to do with upscaling or anything.
If you're on about game boost, well the base PS5 also has that and it's a seperate thing to PSSR
@Old-Red Not quite getting your math there bud, how is £550 to £700 double?
But whatever, you're clearly someone who expects nice things for free, good luck with that.
@BeerMonster since it's digital out the box, its £389 to £700. Although I agree with you, cost of production has gone up, and going off PS4 pro sales, this is going to be fairly low in production numbers and so economies of scale and all that.
Until we have another Pascal Architecture type of technological breakthrough, I can't see prices coming down significantly anytime soon
@mkr
The cheapest 4070 desktop I can find is still 600 bucks more than a PS5 Pro (source Best Buy Canada). And that don't include a controller or a keyboard and mouse.
Didn't vote because I'll buy one anyway but I'm not exactly happy with the price
I'd say 700 would be at least more acceptable if they included the disc drive and stand, otherwise, 600 to 650 would be decent I think.
I feel like sony did this event announcing it and the price to test audience reactions.
I may be coping, but I have a feeling they'll do something to sweeten the offer, like including said disc drive, stand, and maybe even an extra controller or game.
If they did any or all of those, I think the pushback would stop at least a little bit.
Keep in mind this is an OPTIONAL CONSOLE. The base PS5 isn't being left behind any time soon.
£600 and it would have to come with a drive. The stand i can live without but the drive i wont.
@Czar_Khastik The sarcasm is real in this comment
It’s for enthusiasts who want a digital only console.
If you have physical games it’s pointless unless you want to pay £800 for it.
@BeerMonster errrm, £450, not quite double I'll admit, but letting Sony off the hook here helps no one but them.
@BeerMonster
PS4 Pro was £350 at launch.
PS5 Pro is £699 at launch (with no stand or disc drive).
I don’t think it’s ‘entitled’ to think that paying more than double last gen’s Pro launch price is too much.
Also, the PS5 base model is still overpriced. It’s the only generation where Sony has raised the RRP since launch, not reduced it. We are paying more today than we did at launch for four year old hardware.
I don’t know why it’s ‘entitled’ to expect more? We are all scrimping and saving to make ends meet and fund our hobby because we are being squeezed everywhere from all companies. I actually think the companies are ‘entitled’ for thinking they can keep doing this without some push back.
Edit: Copying @Old-Red in as this was in relation his comment also.
@Voltan maybe you are part of the reason why Sony upped the price so much. 🤣
I have a new Sony tv and soundbar system, sub and rear speakers. Top end range.
Is it the very best top tier I have owned absolutely
Did I pay more yes. Am I happy, absolutely.
And I have owned an Lg C3 and Samsung s90c.
But the Sony upscale and motion is so top tier even against those amazing TVs.
You pay more and Sony do dam well annoy me as they cut corners with sockets and things.
But if you want the best you pay and get over it I’m afraid.
@MikeOrator I added it up a few months ago. Mostly Asus parts. You'd have to build it yourself or get lucky in a sale on a prebuilr, but it was a few
£ over £800
Guys, come on. It is just more powerful console. We do not have to buy it. All games will be for ps5 as now and just additional extras for that. Is just like any other things - tv, phone, laptop, car - you have more luxary ones and there is no gun to the head to buy. Lets kill Lamborghini because we cant afford their cars.
@MjJmediablogger Yes it is and thank you very much
@Bamila Alan Wake 2 looked great and ran brilliantly for me personally don't need to spend another £700 to enjoy it.
@Kienda What's the PS4 Pro price got to do with it? It's like saying my old BMW M3 cost less than my new BMW M3, completely irrelevant.
If you can't afford it, don't buy, or quit the cigarettes and five holidays a year.
I would say tempted only because we still don’t know how games like dragons dogma or ff7 will benefit. Can those games achieve 60fps through brute force or are we essentially just getting a slightly sharper background image in performance mode?
600 is what I would pay for it and if they just swapped the 2tb ssd (totally unnecessary) with a 1TB ssd I think that would be achievable.
If it sells like hotcakes, won't matter what I think. To me the most off putting, more than price, is to have to worry about buying two other parts to make it work like I'd want it to. (Disc drives are already selling it, which should be a clue how well this will sell) Only hope of getting it cheaper is for it to not sell well, which would just be bad for games, too. I don't think that will happen when people barely scoff at $1300 phones, these days. It's gonna be fine. We'll all be fine. Most depressing part is with Xbox eating sh-t, don't expect this scenario to get better. You Sony fanbois all wanted that to happen, so here we are.
It's the standard Sony tax thinking they are a premium brand, just like they do with TV's, cell phones, cameras, etc. They are just like or want to be like Apple.
At the very least it wouldn't be a hard no. But I never bought the 4 pro and was perfectly content with how most games ran. This time around tho, I am a little concerned with how certain games would run on a base ps5 like mh wilds. I'm almost certainly gonna be playing it day 1 regardless but if there was a chance to snag a pro and games actually do run better on it. Then I'd take the chance if the price was way lower
I'll save my money and put it towards the ps6 like I did when I didn't buy last gens pro.
Beyond GTA6 not a single game has been announced that could push the base ps5, don't see the point of buying it to replay games I've already finished with slightly better hair follicles
I think $699 is fine…if the drive and stand were included - especially since it has 2TB of storage.
As it stands (no pun intended), the target audience for this - who still prefer physical media - are looking at closer to $800 due to having to buy the drive.
Perhaps Sony should have come out with one that only had 1TB and a disc drive that cost $599 - $649.
@SlipperyFish FPS boost on Xbox Series has done things to Xbox, Xbox 360, Xbox One games that PS5 Pro is now championing. Resolution and frame rates have been improved.
Let alone the fact that those games are natively playable on Xbox.
This is why I changed to PC. All my games are over 120 fps on max graphics and my games don't cost £70. Console gaming is becoming seriously expensive now and I bet the next gen consoles will be Neo Geo prices.
If it had the disc drive, I would ALMOST think it might be worth it.
But $699 plus another $80? Hell to the no.
@SlipperyFish Xbox has been upscaling for years without developer support.
In Australia the PS5 Slim is $799.95. The Controllers are $119.95. Everything goes up excluding wages. Only if I decide to get a second job will I be able to get this. Gaming consoles now are pure luxury. PC is just as bad too with electronic pricing.
@__jamiie still not sure why that's even relevant, when I'm talking about the fact it'll upscale new releases, but ok bro.
@MatthewJP I'll get one for the opposite reason. Regret staying up late just trying to get a PS5 at launch, just to play a few PS5 games and lots of PS4 pro versions of games for 4 years. I should've just got a ps4 pro and waited longer
Forget the price for a second. The Pro isn't actually an impressive upgrade at all. Cerny telling me to look at the pixel detail in a fixed screenshot of a moving game that I've already played and enjoyed 4 years ago ISN'T IMPRESSIVE!
Imagine if Nintendo had 4 years to improve the pixel density in Super Mario World on the SNES Pro. What an incredible game it would have been rather than the trash they actually gave us! 😂
If they did a 1TB version with a disc drive I’d more seriously consider it.
I would pay the price but with a discdrive included. But my first thing I'll need is a new TV.
No. Only way I get a pro is if my standard PS5 stops working. And only then if it has had a significant price cut. Would rather keep the money for PS6.
Pro is completely unecessary. PS5 surely hasn't come close to reaching its potential. If it has, that is concerning.
I don't care what the haters think there not stopping me from getting one and it's going to cost me nothing at $0. Its a Birthday gift. I'm never going back to pc gaming for anything other then handhelds because sony has not put out one.
@Digit2021 It's cheaper then in Europe but if your paycheck is lower I can understand the problem.
Ideally $549, max $649 for me
I'll just wait for a deal, cause im still interested.
Dont really care about the stand and disc drive
Honestly the pro just doesn't seem like that much of an improvement over the base console. It's not like we're talking buying a series X over an S. It's just... slightly better and that's it. It's kind of a shame since I've been considering trading in my original PS5 for an upgrade but not if it will hardly be an upgrade.
@SlipperyFish Well thank you for telling me about all of those new PS5 Pro releases. I've seen none. I've seen (mostly) PS4 games being upscaled.
@Decoy_Snake Alan wake2 was my game of the year, but it did struggle some scenes with visible fps drops even with VRR enabled. Wasn't that many areas, but woody parts did drop it when there were enemies on the lose..
Um... I think I prefer getting another PS5 Fat again with already inside disc drive.
@__jamiie PSSR works on everything. As soon as a game releases it will work.
@Flaming_Kaiser
Ouch did not know about our pricing cheaper than Europe. When you’re in your country you can have a bad habit of being in your so called bubble. In Australia it’s due to reserve bank increasing interest rates thus my pay check is now just busy paying higher mortgage, plus necessities have sky rocketed. Our wage growth is not keeping up. I feel though that for a high priced item 5-7 minutes for the presentation was not enough plus YouTube does not make it look fantastic when trying to see the comparisons. I might wait since I bet they will have a bundle with GTA6 next year, which gives me time to save.
My feelings are mixed. I waited for a slim, a PRO, and must have games only available on current gen. All while managing to get by with my PS4 PRO.
If it would be like last gen the regular 5 would be down to $400 bundled with a game this Xmas season and I would be picking up a PS5 PRO for $600, that comes with a 2TB ssd, is black, has a disc drive, and bundled with a game.
So my current top price I will pay is $650 provided it included a disc drive and the 2TB ssd. I would still need to pay extra on top of that $650 for black panels to replace the white panels. Bundled with an old game I don't have would sweeten the deal. As it is I'll go with a slim PS5 for some coming games like Borderlands 4, Mafia 4, and GTA 6
@SlipperyFish Wow, I didn't know that. It's now definitely worth £700/$700!
@Digit2021 If I use to convert its €539 that is $889,13 australian dollars. But $0,61 is €1 but i understand if you get payed in Australian dollar it does not matter. but I don't even know what a normal salary is in Australia. I'm lucky not to live in the UK.
I would have considered it at £499. But I wouldn’t pay more than that for something which is just a minor upgrade on the base edition. I just want Sony to start making some good games.
I’m seriously considering getting a steam deck as a way to enter the PC gaming world.
@__jamiie never said it was, but it's a technology that will end up in PS6 and so forth, so it's interesting to me atleast.
I mean, if it was $599.99 and came with the disc drive included, I'd probably opt for that over the standard one if I was to get one. Why not? Generally paying a small premium for better hardware is preferable in the long run.
@SterlingEyes Do it. The OLED version, specifically, which has a far better battery life and gorgeous display. There's some really demanding AAA titles that won't run well on it (the Final Fantasy XV demo was... rough, let's say), but most games you throw at it run fine. Cyberpunk runs shockingly well.
The thing has almost completely replaced my Switch.
When comparing UK/EU pricing to the US don’t forget that UK pricing includes 20% VAT...which comes to whopping £116.50 for the PS5 Pro. EU pricing also includes VAT from 17-25% depending on the country. US pricing does not include state sales tax (there is no federal sales tax).
Also, exchange rates can fluctuate wildly. To account for this volatility, pricing outside the US is generally calculated using a predicted average exchange rate over a set period of time.
A couple of possibly interesting tidbits: US state sales tax ranges from 0-8% depending on the state (not including city or county taxes in some states). Compare that to the EU where VAT the for the majority of member states is 20% or more…and cannot be lower than 15% by law.
no, i’d rather put that money into sprucing up my PC more . i already have a ps5.
Add in full PS1-3 backwards compatibility and I would buy a premium PS5 variant.
That's where the money is. I would buy 2 (no joke).
The price would be fine if it included the disk drive, or if Sony would allow Pro users to switch to digital copies if they have only the disk version.
Cool thing about consoles is you plug n play. Years of PC gaming and nearly every game I got had some stupid issues that required Web searches and 1+ hour to resolve, if there even was a resolution.
The pedestal people stick PC on is too high.
The Pro isn't just a small difference over the base, and it isn't the price of a good gaming PC That's some real sour grapes.
It's been a long time but I swear the PS4 Pro was reasonably priced on release and was more of an upgrade.
I love playstation always have. Had one since uk launch. However I had to move to the dark build your own pc side as it is generally cheaper games and my new portable steam deck is just amazing, With or without WiFi. I remember when the furore of ps3 price was the latest rage but there I was buying one day 1. Ps4 day one, pro a bit late ps5 day 1. No more now. Psvr2 is on pc so I'm sorted.
$600 with disc drive and it would have been day one for me.
"I wouldn't buy one regardless of price" is the funniest choice because of the wording.
In theory 15% of people wouldn't buy a PS5 Pro even if it was one dollar haha
Had I believed earlier on that it would be $550-600 I very well might have. Instead I believed all along it would be $700-750 and it influenced my decision to return to PC. I'd be a lot richer if I didn't have such little faith in Sony left but it seems I have the correct amount of faith in them. The amount of improvement for the price is laughably worse then I thought. While it's "the whole rig" for existing owners is just a new GPU and performs worse than gpus that cost less,
No. No disc drive and the vertical stand being sold separately are enough for a pass from me.
Plus it really doesn't seem like that much of an improvement over the vanilla model.
$550-600 with a disc drive and a stand would have probably gotten me after a year or so, even before I knew the price and what was missing I wasn't particularly excited for a PS5 Pro though so maybe, maybe not.
For me, it doesn't make sense why it's more expensive than the ps5, 4 years later and without disc drive. Yeah there is a 2TB SSD, but most of us already for a memory expansion which could easily be carried over. I didn't need more space on the SSD if it's just jacking up the price. This is what the 3rd party memory is for.
$599 with a friggin’ disc drive and I’d be hittin’ that preorder button. I totally get that it’s expensive tech, but as a physical enthusiast, this thing is just not worth the cost for me with my limited game time these days.
That EPIC presentation for PS5 hasn't even come close to being realized and yet they're releasing a PS5 Pro.
If I don't see something equal to what was shown with that EPIC presentation on a standard PS5, then to me, this will read like overpromised, power-of-the-cloud nonsense by Sony.
I'm sorry, but that's what it looks like.
@SlipperyFish This is what was promised at the beginning of this generation of consoles. Sony are now asking us PS5 owners to pay an incredible amount more for such a little increase and things the Xbox was already doing.
Do you think the PS5 Pro is worth it?
Someone gotta remind Sony that PlayStation is a videogame, not a premium work device. Only Apple can pull artificial high prices and not get a backslash due to how they cultivated the brand.
It honestly does so very little, and I need to have a disc drive, so unless my current PS5 died and the price difference was very small, then no.
Nope, I'm good with my PS5
@__jamiie xbox isn't doing 4k@60 anymore either tbf. PS5 pro can run GT7 at 8k, which nobody rightly cares about, but its technically impressive. And base PS5 also boosts old games sooo what exactly is xbox doing that PS5 isn't, but the PS5 pro is?
What was promised at the beginning of the gen was delivered to start with on a handful of games. Ultimately it is up to devs to hit 4k@60. Which you could achieve on literally any game if you turned graphical fidelity down enough.
Whether PS5 pro is worth it depends on the individual but for me it's the one thing Sony hasn't mentioned and we won't know until release - cooling. It needs to run cool and quiet, unlike the PS4 pro. If it doesn't, it's useless to me.
If it does then, then it's almost worth it. £700 is a step too far I think. I could live with £650, or £700 with the disc drive would be acceptable. However, I'm not going to pretend I know anything about the production cost. Given the increase in GPU, size, and cooling (an educated assumption - there are a lot more vents at the back than the slim) in addition to the low production volume (which lowers margins), it's entirely possible the pro barely breaks even. We know PS5 doesn't make much profit, even sold at a loss to begin with, so I'm thinking the pro is priced at a bigger profit margin to gain something back from a niche audience. The cost of tech in general has gone up, not down like usual, as well.
For me, it's probably better to invest in an OLED tv first. I love my Switch OLED, and my phone is AMOLED, so my TV always looks a bit dull in comparison. I'll probably get a pro in a year or two when there's a sale, as I don't think I'll be getting PS6 at launch.
But in general, I think whether it's worth it depends on the individual.
Anyone remember when Cerny said they aren't just trying to build a budget PC but something unique?
Then he comes out and announced the most expensive console ever and is only benefits are 45% better GPU, overclocking CPU in select old titles, better upscaling, and a larger SSD.
Not just a budget PC my knack.
It would have been a day 1 at $600, now I'll just wait at the slightest price decrease I can find. Also If I can trade my current PS5 in to Sony like Samsung does to it's phones and get a good chunk of money back I'll get it.
People need to understand that PS5 PRO is for people that want Fidelity mode with the 60 or 120FPS. If you are happy with Performance mode on PS5 then PS5 PRO is not for you. Its just for those that want the best image with the best FPS. Kinda simple really.
I’ve already said in another article, I’m fine with the current PS5.
$600 with a disc drive included I would have been strongly considering buying one.
That they sell a console for the "hardcore" hobbyist and not include a disc drive is already nonsense on its own.
I just have a 1080p TV, any fancy features would be a total waste regardless of price. Just as an aside, I do have to note that PS Canada has priced the thing at $959.99. A few bucks more than the direct conversion. That's just over $1,100 after my province's 15% sales tax. I don't even know what to say, I am awestruck.
@nessisonett Agreed.
Again, we've seen nothing, game-wise, within the realm of that EPIC demo we saw before the generation began. That was what we were told our PS5's were capable of, and it was heavily implied that we'd one day get that on our PS5's. Hasn't come close to happening, and now they're trying to sell us a $700.00 PS5 Pro for semi-moderate to moderate resolution and framerate gains?
Thanks, Sony, I guess.
Serious question. But what exactly is new inside that warrants the price hike? All new more expensive chips?
This is ridiculous. After games started to sell with part of the content missing and disguised later as dlc to get more money, now even hardware is selling in pieces? What do you mean I have to buy a very expensive product, but then I also have to buy the stand and dics drive separately.
@SlipperyFish So to cut a long story short, you'll be a Nintendo gamer from now. Well done mate.
@playstation1995 😮 Negativity? From playstation95????? Say it ain't so, ps95, Say it ain't so!!!!!! 😮😫😫😭
@NEStalgia it's not the most expensive console ever though is it? The Neo Geo was the most expensive console ever launched and the cost of the games...Holy f**k! I remember my mate buying one on import way back at the tail end of 1991 with a couple of games and it was awesome but that price tag. The ps5 Pro is expensive indeed but I'm currently looking at gaming pc's to see if I can actually get a rig for under a £1000 even though I have no intention of ever going the pc route again (the eternal upgrade route every couple of years is too expensive) and I can't find anything that will live up to what I'd expect to outlast the ps5 Pro (without continuous upgrades.) So for me I'll be waiting to see how the ps5 performs before committing myself or wait until my ps5 gives up the ghost. I suppose it all boils down to just how much does the individual really need that upgrade.
@KeenAerondight Even that Matrix demo hasn’t been touched in many ways. Elements of that were super impressive.
@eagletrippin I was surprised too..almost dropped my cup of tea..
@Northern_munkey lol when I typed that I knew someone was going to say "Neo Geo" lol. Yeah inflation adjusted that was way worse though technically it was cheaper at $649.99. (not inflation adjusted). I'm right in a patcher way.
Seriously though neo geo is a weird case because it was literally just a commercial arcade board built to survive 24/7 commercial abuse packaged into a home product, and the games were full commercial daughter boards. And it was originally intended as a commercial rental machine. But a bunch of rich people wanted to buy them so they finally started selling them lol.
Isn't this ALSO an eternal upgrade route? 4 years in games run poorly and then you're encouraged to buy new more expensive hardware to fix it. It's identical to PC now. Jim had expressed they intended to go the phone and pc model of constant upgrades before going the generations route again.
PCs under $1k yeah they won't perform above pro. Initial cost is higher. Where the real math comes in is tco over time. I.e. $1200-1500 can get a machine that surpasses the pro. It cost more up front but the ability to pay less on software, services, not need a mid Gen upgrade and turn down settings to get performance up extend the life of hardware. The new handhelds are great examples. Ostensibly weak hardware. But all but the most demanding games can get 40-60 fps and look great. Yeah some games are hogs and don't work but the point is if you can get that little chip to perform so well, you can do a LOT for a long time with the real cards. The upgrades aren't as extreme and rapid as they used to be. Nvidia said it themselves in relation to higher prices.
It's definitely not the right route for all of course. But I'm terms of money alone there's more to the total cost than just the up front build. They're taking $80 games on console. We're paying closer to PC prices on console than is apparent, you just pay it slowly.
Console prices slowly but surely moving towards $1000.
As I wrote before I'm fine with my Slim PS5. Wouldn't buy Pro regardless of price.
@NEStalgia a console cycle lasts say 10 years or there abouts..pc gpu and cpu are evolving all the time so no I wouldn't say consoles have become part of the eternal upgrade loop yet. Once they start having replaceable gpus etc (effectively becoming pc's) then they join that never ending eco system. There is food on the table for everybody now and the menu has a new expensive dish that everybody wants a taste of but not everybody can afford. I quite enjoy our little to and fros because you understand what I'm trying to convey and are never snarky or try to be patronising (unlike some others who will not be named.) I'm off to work now so I'll reply on my lunch break if I take one today..until then have a good one 👍
I owned a regular PS4 with my housemate and moved country to be with my partner. We then bought a PS4 Pro because the price was so close and it just made sense.
I wouldn't just upgrade to a Pro for no real reason; seems like a waste of money. Especially as trade in programs like GameStop used to have just don't exist anymore
I need a 200£ PS5 ultra slim. I'm only going to play one PS4 game, so I don't want to spend too much. I have a PC for everything else.
I had the PS4 pro. And would happily get this if I could see the difference enough to care. Diminishing returns on investment. I'll just wait for the ps6
The Panasonic 3DO FZ1 launched at $699 back in 1993. Adjusted for inflation that’s over $1500 today.
Although it did come with a disc drive 🤣
@BeerMonster Because PS5 is 4 years old and obsolete, should be sold at $300, and the PS5 Pro that brings fresher technology should be at $500 max. This is just pure greed from Sony. And a good example of why the customer needs competition in the market.
The reality is that manufacturing post cough era is still expensive. Which is why no significant price drops have happened for these SOCs over the past few years. If Sony made the console cheaper, they would loose money on the new production line opened up for these. Remember almost all of the semiconductors come from China and Taiwan. Demand didn’t go down for them throughout the cough era either so there was a backlog. So prices are what they are. Besides Microsoft is making a 600$ series X to put things into perspective. So the pro is a good deal for those that want it. People need to stop being dramatic about this move by Sony. The real issue we all care about is lack of current generation games.
@Northern_munkey All very true but I think vs the bad old days PCs have really come into stable territory almost like consoles. I remember the old days. Isa to PCI to agp to agp pro to agp 2 then pcie.... Brutal. PCs were outdated on 2-3 years and could run nothing. These days you CAN upgrade and go nuts but you can really get a console generation out if the hardware and get more out of it by dialing down to keep performance up. Funny thing, I'm building my rig and may end up ultra high end due to VR... And the bom is .... The same I payed for my last rig in the early PS3 era (not inflation adjusted, raw dollars!). The GPU is 3x the price but the rest of the parts have dropped to offset it. Still an expensive rig mind you but I was kind of floored. Overkill rig, not needed by anyone.... But not yet enough for VR perfection.
And thanks for the kind words, always a pleasure! 😊
I opted 499 because it is 627 actualy.
here in switzerland its over double yes double than my ps5 i bought with stand with disc drive and a game. can anyone honestly said the videos showed that much boost in performance. never mind handfull games that will use it
For 800€ it is already expensive but without a disc drive?
It is not even like I have a huge collection of physical games, I don't, but I do buy a collector edition once in a while and, if I need image quality on a movie/anime dear to my heart, streaming is a no go.
I hope some shop will offer some sort of trade+money deal, buying back base PS5 if you buy the pro...:-/
The diminishing returns on this console upgrade are just too much to ignore. Most games still run fine on the PS4, let alone the base PS5. At this rate, there really isn't a need for a PS5 Pro or even a PS6.
£600 with a disc tray and stand. It's expensive but I'd be much more willing to buy at that point
Right now they offer nothing of note that can convince a lot of PS5 owners to upgrade.
Hell, they'll have a hard time even with the PS4 owners...
I mean Mikey boy there, in his PS5 Pro presentation, chose to talk about the current PS5's prowess while showing scenes from God Of War - which is a PS4-PS5 cross gen title.
And then went on to show what we're gonna play on the shiny new 800$ PS5 Pro for the foreseeable future - same old cross gen titles, with patches !
Laughable!!
For £600 with a disc drive I'd have been interested but £800 is completely out of the question
Some if not most? games have quality mode 30fps, imho that's a poor show which says to me that developers have reached the consoles limitations, I can see why the pro version exists but it will be another two years or more? before a purchase and then i'd want a deal of some sort. I got my first ps5 for £380 in a november 2023 sale. £600 is pushing it sony mate without the stand and disc drive included.
@Deoxyr1bose This, this Pro model is purely made for the devs who can't be bothered to make games properly and optimise them to use all the existing consoles power. They make more money then ever before, sell more games then ever before, the gaming community is bigger then ever before, but devs seem to be lazier then ever before.
The Switch shows just what can be done with the right optimisation, and games are slowly being optimised for the Steam Deck making it a viable device in its market still despite its weaker hardware.
Anyway no I wouldn't buy a Pro model for the reasons I just gave.
@Czar_Khastik the sarcasm thing is becoming boring and old
@BeerMonster I was showing the previous price to this one is because it shows the expectations people had compared to what they are being offered.
And it’s at a time when most working class people in the West have less money today than they did back then.
But hey, keep shilling for the mega corps.
@Skeletor85 Completely agree. I don't like the guy so here's my review of him:
Cons:
Pros:
Score:
Sony needs to better showcase the difference with new games. Also, make people excited with some upcoming games like Dragon Age The Veilguard or AC Shadows.
I'll say it again if Sony could've a version with 1TB for 600$. I don't think there was going to be a lot of backlash from people.
@__jamiie hahahaha how on earth did you come to that conclusion??
I’m debating buying one anyway at current price, though still undecided. I’m an all-digital consumer so I have no need to worry about the overpriced disc drive attachment. I’m used to overspending on gaming tech. My RTX 3080 cost me £740, just for the GPU. That’s the problem though, I already have a PC so it becomes much harder to justify PS5P. I prefer gaming in the living room and currently have an XSX for that purpose, but we all know that Xbox have been slow motion imploding throughout 2024. There is so much negativity around that brand that I’m starting to feel some pressure to invest in PlayStation. Tricky predicament.
I genuinely don't need it at all, since I own a ps5 and content
I get that it's pricey, but an overlooked detail is that it comes with 2TB as well. And it's not like people will have an awful experience with the regular PS5.
I doubt the PS6 will be as expensive as the PS5 Pro, as the Pro is never going to be their main product.
A £700 pro (without a discdrive) is a total waste of money. The 4 year old PS5 is doing great, it hasn't even reached its full potential yet. Instead of making more hardware Sony really need to start making some new decent games (no more PS3/PS4 remasters) also in two years time we'll be paying out for the PS6, get saveing now
@Cakefish I get the appeal with lounge gaming but if it was me and i could afford it i'd invest with pc simply because it's the definitive platform, but then again I really like high quality textures ray tracing/ray reconstruction just higher quality pixels and the overall lighting or ray traced global illumination, consoles can't really compete on the same level but i'm interested to know more about Sony's PS5 Pro advanced ray tracing techniques, not sure if they have some sort of AI-powered neural renderer? looking forward to the teardowns and analysis of the pro model.
Firstly I don't think they have done a good job of demonstrating what the PS5 Pro can do vs the PS5. The examples they gave were mostly terrible and shown in small windows. Before buying I would need to see more evidence of what we would be getting.
But assuming they do this, assuming PSSR is a game changer, assuming more games will be 60fps + high settings, and assuming PS5 Pro Boost mode improves existing games where it matters then I would be happy to pay £599 for it to play console games at their best for the next 4 years. Perhaps £649 at a push. But ONLY with a disc drive included, that is the biggest hurdle for me. I wouldn't mind if it was 1TB either as I already have the expansion for that, but a disc drive for another £100 is a hard no.
I have the digital base model. I would be tempted to get the Pro if it were 600 Euros (550 Dollars?) max. I do have a modern 65" OLED tv, so I would benefit from the Pro's technical enhancements. But 800 Euros is just waaaay too much.
I'd pay £599 if it came with the disc drive. If that doesn't make economical sense from a business point of view then so be it. The tech costs what it costs so if I don't think the price is worth it for what we are gaining I'll happily continue with my base model. I bought the PSVR 2 because I believed the tech that it came with was worth the price. Sometimes it's not about if you can afford it, but if you think it's good value for you personally. Hope those that do think it's worth it enjoy their purchase.
@themightyant yip I'd be happy with 1 tb and a disc drive also
No disc drive not bothered either way.
@SlipperyFish I don't know mate. 😂 Let's stop arguing over things that really don't matter. I'm sorry. Life is far, far too short.
I wish you, and everyone you love all the best for life and everything you all do. ❤️
I have to say add why would you buy the Pro console, for which the only way they could sell it to you was by ridiculing the current model! Which has no issues.. Sorry Sony screwed up with this Pro model, it's not needed, overpriced, and shows Sonys arrogance has cropped up again.
I've also heard from those with dev contacts that none of them asked for any 'more power' from the PS5, because they aren't using all the current models power, but these are select developer individuals and not representative of the companies one of which was EA.
From what Sony's shown so far, the PS5 Pro is a machine looking for a problem to fix.
I probably wouldn't have purchased it simply because I already own all three systems and a gaming PC and as long as I get to experience the games I want I am not to bothered about a few extra frames while also playing on the highest graphical mode. As long as I get the same gameplay experience in a playable form I don't really care if it is on better hardware or not. Some people seem to equate having more fun with a game to how powerful the hardware is they are playing it on. There are also not enough games that take advantage of this generations hardware in the first place to warrant an upgrade since many games are still coming out on last generation hardware still which is crazy to think a decade later.
I wonder what traffic pushsquare gets from continental Europe but it seems weird that every time they put prices they completely ignore € prices, as if these readers didn't exist. It costs the writer one additional line only ...
@__jamiie at no point was I arguing, I was just having a discussion because I am passionate about technology and games. I know everyone on this site always wants to argue, and tone is hard to convey, but I'm always just trying to learn more and share my thoughts.
You're right, life is too short, I'm only here because I have nothing else better to do right now.
Wish you the best
I was prepared for a 599 max.
My first thought was ps5 will come out by the time ps5 pro comes out they would of cut the price of the base console and then the pro comes in at launch ps5 prices. But of course we know the story now and ps5 has gone up in price.
But even then I thought 599 was steep.
So 699 for a console just to basically add a marginal increase isn't justified for myself.
Also to announce it now and be right within just over a month, really doesn't give me.time to figure out how to raise an extra 700.
The time frame is way to short.
They should of announced this way earlier in my eyes, for people to wrap their heads around and save up.
I’m going to issue a firm Stand Down to the folks baulking at the price and I want them to go outside and mow their neighbors lawn until sept. 26th
Doing this will allow them to gain the capital needed to cover the cost of the new console.
The price is expensive, but people who have £700 to spend on the latest tech will buy it, and that's who this device is aimed at - people who want it because they want the best.
@SlipperyFish Me too my friend. I'm here to debate things but I sometimes annoy people enough to get me banned for a bit. I'm not a horrible person though and I'm sure you're not either.
The thing is, all you can really say about the Pro is that the graphics are a "bit" better - for those to whom this kind of thing matters, what price can you reasonably put on this small improvement?
Most enthusiasts would have already bought the Disk version at £450 when the PS5 launched in 2020, and at absolute best you're going to get £350 back if you now attempted to sell the console on the second-hand market.
To get the Pro with the same features as your base PS5 (i.e. a stand and disk-drive) it's going to cost you £800.
That's asking for a minimum of £450 extra for a "bit" better than a system you currently own. Who can really justify this?
If it came with the disc drive, I’d do it. Or at least the option for a massively discounted dic drive bundle. They’re just being a bit too tight with the add ons and the high price
£500 would be my limit.
@Bamila like I said I had no issues with AW2 even got lucky with some apparently glitched trophies. If your up for the Pro go for it my dude it's just something I don't need.
The stand + DD = €150 here. The more I see the price the more I think scalpers have a lot to do with it. Sony want to collect that money instead of losing it attitude (a point I'll give them).
Beside sales in about 6-12 months, I also want to see who will make Pro features of their game. Certainly not MS, so I expect First Party and some Third Party. Overall, it will not be worth it imho. I don't expect overall 60 FPS magic in games that didn't have it. Bloodborne without the mod is still 30 FPS on PS5?
@__jamiie
This isn’t true at all, only backward compatible games will load faster because backcompat games on PS5 don’t take full advantage of the custom tech. For example a current gen game like RE:Village will load into a save file in 6-7 seconds with a loading screen and the PS5 will have no loading screen, just turns black and then immediately loads the room in. There’s potentially a few outliers that don’t leverage the custome i/o tech properly.
This is not even remotely the same thing. The PlayStation upscaling solution is a full custom upscaling technology that works like FSR or DLSS, it uses machine based learning to leverage AI based upscaling. It can output the games at lower resolution, and upscale it to achieve higher frame rates than would be possible at those framerates while getting close to native looking visuals.
Xbox has no such custom technology and must only leverage third party solutions(that were created primarily for PC) at the full effort of the developer.
You can play older games at higher Framerates because Xbox simply forces them to run at a higher resolution. It is not upscaling, there’s no efficiency gains, it would have no benefits on current gen games. It doesn’t allow you to run games at higher upscaled res while maintaining higher FPS. It simply allows games to run at a resolution they were already capable of doing if they’d been patched to do so. It only affects games that already have the overhead necessary to run at a higher resolution.
PSSR likely means that UE5 games on PS5 PRO can probably hit a stable 60 FPS with a reasonably upscaled res. Hellblade 2 would almost certainly be able to hit 60 FPS on the PS5 Pro specs.
@ChrisDeku Okay, you've blinded me with science.
So do you think the PS5 Pro is worth it or should I just wait for a PS6/XBOX SIX?
I think 499 would've been a better price point. I would be willing to buy it even if I had to spend an $80 extra on the disc drive. Because at least I can buy them on my leisure time. We all know that buying the physical disk unit is profit for Sony. For what it's worth, I don't feel that it's a must have unit slightly improved shadows and improve lighting system, which is barely noticeable. Same goes for reflections is not worth it.
The light system is the only thing that's noticeable, but reflections barely stands out. And the presentation was slightly confusing.
For example, they're taking away or understand that most people want performance so they stabilize the performance mode but it looks like they're enhancing the visual fidelity in performance mode but that doesn't guarantee 4K like article said earlier and some would run a 30 depending on the kind. So what about Quality/fidelity mode?
I don't have a problem with 30 FPS as it's not a high performance demanding twitchy control type game like a fighting system, shooter, etc. I have more of a problem with he announced that the vast majority of people use performance... we don't have any other choice if we want accurate movement. I would never play black myth or stellar blade using high Fidelity because it looks like they're fighting water. So all these games releasing with high-quality visuals, you're forced to downgrade them to stabilize them and Sony is apparently trying to take out the guest work.
It sounds like you're still in performance mode but with enhanced visual, but it hasn't really explored what would happen with going with fidelity mode I think most people would prefer fidelity mode or quality if the character wasn't bogged down.
@Bamila
Black myth the new game including stellar blade I believe use the unreal engine and their performance mode is 1080 P. Black myth has a lot of details environment so I feel like a lot of of the times all the tiny details are going into the surrounding area, but you're just not getting the higher resolution that you've been promised for the past two generations. It's like they're giving you low quality resolution, but trying to make it up with visuals and don't realize that it's really destroying the overall presentation.
@__jamiie Well, I’m not buying one….
Playing UE5 games at 60 FPS, not bad, but I’m not paying £700 for it. I’m sure it’s a nice option for some people though.
@eagletrippin. Haha.yeah i had to say something.i been with PlayStation since day 1 here in queens new york and the lack of games.the raising price of psplus.the pspro tbing etc.sony is really on drugs.word up son
@Jeaz yeah, but remember when the PlayStation 4 pro came out, it was very decently priced for an OK upgrade. Was pretty much the same price as the normal unit and that including everything. I truthfully believe that the PS 6 is going to be either about the same price or $600 with a separate disc drive at $80. I think next generation they're going to sell one unit where you can buy a third-party hard drive attachment as default to make up money.
I wouldn't mind if the upgrade is noticeable like stable frame rate, high quality visual, not having to always downgrade to performance, etc..
I like the PS five but I was never a fan of the reflections on glass and water because they're barely noticeable and at the end of the day, you're swinging at 100 mph a Spider-Man not attached to glass to see it, and devil may cry the glass reflections, including the water puddles barely were noticeable, even in Tokyo ghost. And they were really hyping up those enhancements, but it completely kills the fps and the resolution.
@playstation1995
Same here, man I've been with them since day one I thought they learned their lesson from the nightmare of the PS3 and if you remember when the PlayStation 4 came out and five following the same design pattern, their games can more quickly be developed because their standard PC, not exotic stuff like to CELL or proprietary engines. Yet I feel their increasing prices all across the board controllers, PlayStation plus, hardware $200 freaking controllers or was that 250? The list goes on and on. Nothing but remasters and stupid decisions like have dust born or Concorde.
And we still have not gotten a cheap price plan to be able to play online, either go back to being free, or at least charge a cheap price for online yearly like $20 but without the free game and include the Online save back up. I don't even play online but extremely rare and I don't see the value of free games because I buy all my games. I have what I want...
I think ever since Sony started charging for online giving you a game I've only downloaded 2/3 in all those years. The only time I was playing online a lot, was for uncharted 4 MP and about a month of Tekken 8 before I canceled it.
@ChrisDeku Fair enough. I'm going to stick with mine too.
@ChrisDeku and even remember, they said it's not even guaranteed to be 60 fps from the looks of it. It seemed like you're still in performance mode, but with enhance visuals.
Honestly, I personally still don't see a reason to buy even the base PS5, let alone PS5 Pro. PS4 is still more than enough.
PS5 Pro: $700 + tax
PS5 Pro Disk Drive: $80 + tax
Base PSN: $80/year + tax
Telling Sony to F**k Off: priceless
If they had the game catalog that the PS4 had it would at least their greed would make sense. My favorite PS5 games are mostly PS4 games though. Go back to the drawing board, Sony. You're dropping the ball
No. Nothing wrong with my current PS5, and price is way too high for me.
@Decoy_Snake
The only relevant comment. Case closed. Period.
Can we have a Euro price added to the poll?
It's absolutely nuts to pay €950 for a console, stand and Blu-ray drive.
Let's be honest, on top of the price, how many people will also need new TVs to benefit from the new video modes? Not to mention how many current PS5 owners don't even have a screen that supports 120hz mode or VRR?
@mountain_spider. Yeah you are right.but at least on the ps3 we had a lot of first video games every year.and psplus was still cheap.i used to buy a 1 year psplus for 37$ and 42$ on ebay.not no more.they also raised the price of ps5 controllers for no reason.i got psplus essential but not extra or premium its dumb that they add games and remove them.whats the point of that.sony got no competition from x box.and concord flop.so sony is doing arrogant thing.its ridiculous.and closing japan studio was horrible.etc.word up son
Im happy to buy it priced as is. My GPU cost £2k and Ive barely used it as I dislike PC gaming enourmously. £700 is not a big deal to some.
I bought a neo geo when they were released for huge money and used to pay between £120 and £150 for the games, and that was a lot of money back then.
Looking at what gpu you can buy for £700, the pro is still good value, if you want the best performance.
If not, then there nothing wrong with the current ps5, its not going anywhere and will play all the games. Those with us with spare cash and a desire to get more 60hz and more quality will buy, and it really shouldnt offend anyone else who doesnt need it or want to pay for it. I dont get offended by those who drive an Aston Martin simply because I cant afford to. But of course, we are online, its peoples job to find something to get offended by 😂
@Titntin
Logic and reason are swear words in the gaming community these days. Bottom line: Just because someone can't afford something does not mean it is overpriced. Your car analogy works perfectly. Many car enthusiasts would love to own a Ferrari, but will they be able to afford one? Not a chance.
@torquex Yeah I love my PC, but it’s just not best suited for lounge gaming. Steam Big Picture Mode is great, but anytime you need to do something in Windows proper it would be a pain to have to take out the mouse & keyboard each time when sitting on the sofa. I’d also need to replace all my parts with mini-ITX hardware which is even more costly than regular PC parts. It’s doable, but until Windows gets a more living room friendly UI I think I’ll keep my PC at my desk for now and have consoles for the lounge TV.
You’re right that it’d probably be wiser for me to invest that money in PC instead, Nvidia RTX 50 series should arrive next year and I could do with a CPU upgrade too. I just get FOMO very easily when it comes to shiny new tech like this! It’s definitely a weakness of mine.
Sorry but I'm not paying nearly double the price for less hardware and slightly better speed and graphics, I'm very happy with my PS5 so I'll won't be buying the pro.
@Northlander that's my argument, even if you can afford a pro you still need a state of the art TV to get the benefits so you talking over a grand in price and I know there will be a slight speed increase but c'mon the PS5 is pretty fast as it is
So that I can play updated for PS5Pro versions of PS4 games remastered for PS5 that I could play on my PS5 anyway? No thanks.
No physical drive built in is the deal breaker for me.
I’d be open to get an external but only if the console was closer to $500
First post, have been a reader for years! 222 comments already, apologies if someone has already stated this: £700 is $916! Rip off Britain. It should be £535. Vote with your wallets, everyone, and the price will come down. People power, supply and demand.
Not really tbh
Was thinking about getting another ps5 anyway so getting the pro model is just a matter of saving up a bit longer for a better experience.
I think the price is fair for $700. That's $250 more than than the digital version PS5 "Slim" & imo it has $250 worth of upgrades. To upgrade a PC with OG PS5 specs to one with PS5 Pro specs would cost more than $250. I understand the frustration of those who live in places where there was no price conversion done. I agree it would not be worth it for those who would have to pay the equivalent of nearly $920 USD. I would not buy it at that price in the US.
I was looking forward to the PS5 Pro and may still get one, but in addition to the higher than expected price I think they really blew the presentation. They didn't show a single game that I haven't played, and The Last of Us 2 was already a rerelease of a PS4 game.
Furthermore, at 9 minutes, the presentation was way too short. I would have preferred a big 30 minute presentation detailing everything the PS5 Pro can do with more gameplay examples.
As it is it's very hard to get excited about the PS5 Pro. I'm seriously considering getting my first gaming PC instead but in reality you're still doing good to get 4K 60 FPS even with double the PC budget. I guess getting used to high quality 60 FPS at the beginning of the generation was setting us up for disappointment!
I wouldn't buy one regardless. The price isn't an issue. Sure, £700 looks bad. But everything goes up in price in time and I get loads out of a console so I wouldn't be bothered. It just doesn't have enough to make me care enough to faff on transferring my stuff over, selling my old PS5 etc.
I would buy the ps5 pro if it had a upgraded CPU and Gpu and came with a disc drive. My current ps5 needs to break as well. I already have a gaming computer and it seems like all the ps5 games are coming to PC. I struggle with even considering the pro with my PC being as good as it is.
To say I'm not interested would be a lie. To say I'm going to buy one at that price and without a disc drive would also be a lie.
My PS5 plus a 2tb SN850 (bought about a year later) cost me £730. In the 3 1/2 years since the console has gone up and the SSD has come down, but like for like it would still cost about £700. Once I realised this I accepted the price for the Pro isn't as horrific as I initially thought.
I still think it's over priced/under-featured, and I despise how we in the UK are paying more for it, and the disc drive. If Sony were to allow you to add a disc drive for £50 it would look a bit better and be a bit fairer, but I think it's worth (to me) is £700 including drive.
@Cakefish Go with what makes you happy, ignore everyone else. If i'm honest and could afford to I would build me a top end pc and try to get one a PS5 Pro anniversary edition console with an oled tv.
