Following on from months of rumours and speculation, the PS5 Pro has finally been revealed. Sony unveiled the new console via its own dedicated technical showcase, which pretty much confirmed what we've all been expecting: this thing's going to run PS5 games better thanks to more powerful internals.
But was the demonstration enough to actually sell you on the supercharged system? It's out later this year on the 7th November, and while Mark Cerny's explanations did give us an appreciation for what Sony's trying to do, that $700 / £700 price point is going to be a huge problem for a lot of potential buyers. There's no getting around it: this is a console that's aimed squarely at PlayStation's most hardcore audience.
So, we ask again: are you sold on PS5 Pro? Have your say in our poll, and then explain yourself in the comments section below.
Are you sold on PS5 Pro? (6,904 votes)
- Yes, I'll be pre-ordering
- Yeah, but I can wait before buying
- Not quite, I need more info
- Nah, the improvements don't really impress me
- No, it's just too expensive

The important question is how good does Concord look on it?
I will get it when it's down to 600 european
No chance at £700 disc less as well.
Is it 1tb?
@Thorn84 Well there is nicer reflections and it runs at 60 fps
£700 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
You're joking right?
Still has fairly mediocre RT capabilities and best case scenario is just having fidelity modes at 60fps, all for EIGHT HUNDRED POUNDS if you want a disc drive (vertical stand sold separately)
@Thorn84 extra pube details
Nah, the base PS5 is fine enough for me + the price of 800€ (or over 900€ with disc drive) is just insane
Just buy a PC at that point, all first party games release there anyway sooner or later
Absolutely not, you'd think they'd learn from pricing the VR2 at such a high price point
What I'm more worried about is where this leads too in the future ..... how much are they going to want for the PS6???
I think I've just been officially priced out of my favourite hobby
I consider myself “hardcore” but not “this hardcore”.
I will just wait 3/4 more years for a ps6. This price is nonsense, buy a pc at this point.
Nothing else it will keep the scalpers out the way, I think.
Yes. Can't wait.
I think we need to see in action with Digital Foundry (Monster Hunter Wilds, Ff7 and Alan Wake 2 comparisons from them will help more than this video) before we can pass judgement. The breakdown on YouTube was too fast.
It is at the end of the day an enthusiasts console which is cheaper than an enthusiast PC but this won't help with Playstations negative perception.
@OldGamer999 2TB as per the blog
I'll be preordering! Trading in/selling my base PS5 covers more than half of the cost.
Maybe on a sale that brings it down to $499, or if a good trade in program is available.
It will be impossible to get it at first because scalpers. For the first year it will be sold as second hand via reselling for 1k DD
$915 in the UK is WILD!
No way does it equal that price in the States after taxes, no effin' way.
Yes, its only a few hundred dollars to upgrade for games to look their best. No brainer for me
@breakneck
Well that added £100 for no reason and took the choice away to expand if you wish.
They really are pushing it Sony.
$827 after taxes with a disc drive is nonsense. Passing on this.
not at £800 im not
I've been mostly very happy with how games have ran and looked on the current model so I just don't see any reason to buy it. The $700 price tag just makes it easier to resist. I'll wait for the PS6 for a hardware upgrade.
This is an enthusiast machine - not marketed to casual players. Price point seems pretty on point for modern hardware. Would I have liked it cheaper? For sure! That said, still cheaper than a PC rig and without the headaches of drivers and all the other bull that comes with PC territory.
If that’s what they are charging for 60fps and sharper graphics, we are all doomed. I was thinking that come the PS6 generation to hold off and get the 6 Pro, because we are only going to see what the PS5 could have done once we are out of this generation, but I genuinely feel that I won’t be able to afford to buy consoles if they jump to over £700. I think Sony are in for a very rude awakening..
£699.99??
2 words... NO THANKS!
£700. No disc drive. Using Last of Us part 2 and Ghost of Tsushima to demo it. 🤷♂️🤦♂️
Hell yes!! I'm getting it.
It is 2TB disk, for anybody wondering. Source PS blog
I'm not even sold on the regular PS5 let alone a PS5 Pro.
For that price, I'd seriously consider throwing a couple hundred more at it and just getting a beefy PC instead.
I definitely want it, but €800.00 is a lot. I was bracing myself for €700.00.
I'll see what the bank looks like by November and make a decision then.
Sony can F right off. Pretty much nothing else to be said. Par for the course for them this Gen.
Eventually on a VERY good sale I might, but I wouldn’t pay more than $500 for the console itself as I must also take into account the cost of the stand and the disc drive as both would be necessary for my setup.
If I just can’t get it for that price I’ll happily wait for the PS6.
$700 and that's just the digital version too. Nah im good, yall have fun. I still like my PS5 so im not that desperate to upgrade. The only thing that sucks is that I really wanted to experience the raytracing stuff on Gran Turismo 7(which looks great already without it). But I can live without it.
Hell, the original PS5 is too expensive, still. Especially with the 'PS6 in 2026' rumours. I'm kind of paralyzed on buying any ps5. What a joke. I'd pay £350 for a PS5 slim with disc drive.
A bit more razzle dazzle for £700 that doesn’t come with a disc drive, or, I’ve heard (and the internet never lies) a vertical stand? Sir, I started gaming on a Sega mega drive, a spit shine and polish wont sell me. Mostly because I don’t have the money, but still.
Not paying for arrogance....
@OldGamer999 2tb
I can’t wait to pre-order mine. I have the habit to always purchase the best most powerful PS console. Can’t wait to play Black Myth + Astro Bot on it.
It was wrong to make it 2tb. That added about £100 to the cost.
It should have been 1tb and let you decided to expand memory or not.
They are forcing you to buy at a higher cost.
Too much money!
Like the PS4 Pro before it - nope. These are products for the hardcore fanboys/whales, noone else in their right mind would pay that much for a mid-generation upgrade.
I'm not paying $700 with no disc drive and no stand.
I’m not even convinced I was right to get my current PS5.
I was interested. The price stopped that.
But people were asking for fps and graphics. So Sony have provided it. It’s just £150-200 too much (if you include disc drive)
Removed - trolling/baiting
I’m generally a “base model” kind of guy, and this continues to prove it for me.
The lack of the disc drive for that price is absurd. Not buying.
Yes, I hate to have to choose between performance and fidelity so this is right up my alley. Also had a great experience with Ps4 Pro last gen.
It seems like everyone is finding it mad expensive so I think I could get one at launch this time? took me 2 months to get a ps5 at normal price.
Not even with a free PSVR2!
And I'm sure scalpers were part of the equation for setting that price range. Really curious about the sales in about 6-12 months!
"Just buy a $1,200 PC that also doesn't come with a disc drive, $100 mouse, $150 in keyboard, and $200 monitor instead!"
You guys crack me up!
That price point and no disc drive? They're out of their minds. Physical media and price are the only reason I stick with PlayStation. This is 100% "Just build a PC" territory.
If it was aimed at the hardcore audience it should have included a disc drive.
$700 ≠ £700. They can do one.
I was very tempted until I saw the price. Even if it included the disc drive I doubt I’d budge.
Shame as was looking forward to it.
No thanks, I never been turned off more before in my life by a home console's "upgrade model". The improvements means nothing to me, and the price is enough to give me a headache. Don't even get me started on the lack of a disc drive and a vertical stand.
I stick with the original (well, Slim actually) PS5 thank you very much.
lol, I don't have that luxury to upgrade to a PS5 Pro. TBH, I was expecting this price range and had no plans to upgrade regardless of its features
Was almost a miracle that I was able to get a PS5 last 2022 and I think I'm sticking with it.
Still, at that price, Sony should've at least offer a free vertical stand. The lack of disc drive is already nuts for a $700 console
Sony is high on drugs for the price and no disc drive.nah. sony is horrible for that decision.the ps4 pro was so good.this ps5 pro is just sony try to make even more money out of us.ps5 games still looks amazing.word up son
I'm not gonna spend $700+ when i personally don't give a F* about ray tracing or AI upscalling in general.
A new CPU is needed in my current build, I won't be bothering.
@ButterySmooth30FPS That's silly. You can build a $700 (or less) PC, use a PlayStation 4 controller, and hook it up to your TV.
@breakneck internal or an included M.2 SSD? Blog doesn't make that clear.
didnt see anything in presentation that made me go wow
Removed - flaming/arguing; user is banned
@ButterySmooth30FPS You can get a used RTX that supports DLSS for cheap. You wouldn't get a BD Drive for PC since all games there are digital.
Puh, 800€ would have been my boiling point (with disc drive included) and to top it they even took out the vertical stand?
Also, nice to have 2TB, I already have a 4TB internal, this could have taken a bit pressure of the price as well, sad.
Sony decided to become the scalper. No Astro”bot” needed.
Sorry, @ShogunRok, but your poll is splitting the same vote. Both Nah, the improvements don't really impress me and No, it's just too expensive equate to the same thing. Currently the 'No' people are polling at 77%, but you'd be forgiven for thinking it wasn't quite as bad as that...
So tired of hardware announcements. Where are the f’n games?
Seven HUNDRED quid for no disc drive and no guaranteed 60fps at 4K. What an awful, awful presentation that was.
Pass for me. My PS5 is still doing well after 3 years. Can put that money towards a Switch 2.
So that’s £825 to replace my current PS5 setup like for like with the pro (inc disk drive and stand). Come on Sony, I can’t justify that!
I wish for MS to get out of their slumber and put some pressure on Sony.
But who am I kidding?
It is MS with Phil ^^
@jrt87 flipping a current slim takes off half the price easily. No need for a disc drive here so really not that big of a cost incurred to upgrade. Glad there are options for everyone!
@Member_the_game this is what makes me sad. I've missed out on half the games I want this generation because I can't afford to pay £70 each time there's a good game out there. I can only wait for the 'big' ones that I'm guaranteed to like. Feels like gaming it trying its hardest to shoot itself in the foot with the pricing where only the huge franchises stand a chance at making profit.
@IntrepidWombat Still need to re-buy all your games.
At that price with no disk drive? No chance. I think I'd rather get the PSVR2 instead with a few games on black friday.
@breakneck yea exactly. The base PS5 will still be sold so folks can get what they please. As long as they still optimize games all will be okay for the base systems. Performance or fidelity works for most.
No. But I didn't have any intentions on buying it in the first place, so my opinion on its details is kinda moot. $700 definitely kills any lingering possibility that I'd get one, though.
Switch 2, standalone Valve VR, and a heavily discounted Series S are probably gonna do it for me console-wise.
@Kelrics90 Okay, there's one part. Still need a quality CPU, motherboard, RAM, and power supply. On top of having to re-buy games.
I'd vote no twice if I could. Ridiculous.
Don't forget folks, it's only going to be the AAA publishers who are really utilizing all these features. If you're playing games like that new Castlevania collection, or Slave Zero X, or Shin Megami Tensei, etc. what the hell is the point?
It takes massive budgets to make those graphically heavy games and those are usually the ones on the chopping block in all the articles recently. This whole thing, pricing, the improvements, it's all so stupid all around.
Without a Disc drive, no chance!
I'm getting a lot of mileage out of my PS5. I'm considering trading in my PS5 and get the Pro in the future.
Too be honest this gen hasn't been an exciting one (my opinion of course), so the idea of spending all that on another console when the one I've got doesn't feel like it's getting it's money worth is a hard sell.
And for what we're getting the price does simple feel way too high.
I work hard and can't take my money with me, so absolutely I'm going to buy one, we're only here once so enjoy yourself.
I dont care about any of the improvements and it is too expensive. My next console from Sony is the PS6 pro.
Nope, not sold, not getting it. Not now, probably not ever unless they drop the price by 200€ or so.
I already have a ps5 and what the Pro offers against that are just not significant enough and that's without even taking the price into consideration which is also yikes.
Not havinng substantial CPU improvements mean it's not really worth it. Even then, the price is an issue.
Wow not for me at that price. A disk drive is mandatory for me as I have so many physical games. Looks like it is an easy pass and I will stick to my current PS5 which I got on launch day.
if you don't want to buy the new console that is fine original ps5 are still being sold no bog deal..
Imagine what the launch price of the PS6 will be ... and will it have a disc drive? Hopefully, they get a bit humbled ...
Bah! This is just alarmingly depressive. I was once also a PC gamer. It was good reasons why I chose console instead… I’ll go play some Vampire survivors now. I will not need the Pro for that, like ever …
Hard pass! What a waste of money.
Its a case where ofc I would like one to see how much better stuff looks, but the adult in me probably can't square a £800 spend for something thats frivalous.
That said I don't think its to expensive as I can see £700+ being the standard price for both major machines going forward next gen as companies simply can't provide the quality gamers (4k 60fps full RT) on a £450 budget.
In last weeks DF weekly they did touch on it by saying that they think that solid 30 is fine and realistic for consoles for most game, but it seems that the gamer hive mind expects the best a a budget price.
@ButterySmooth30FPS Not necessarily - your existing console isn't going away if you already have games. I have my PS5 and PC right next to each other. Easy as switching an input between the two.
I'll get one. I'm not embarrassed to admit that I love this kind of stuff.
I may have a skewed perspective of the market, yet I bet this thing for all the reaction online ends up selling gangbusters.
Tbh I don't even think the upgrade from PS4 to PS5 was worth the price tag. I'm definitely not touching the PS5 pro anytime soon.
@IntrepidWombat Then what's the point of spending $900-$1,200 on a PC if I'm still going to keep the PS5?
£700 is just too much. Not including an optical drive is insulting and not including a stand is the turd on the cake 🎂
I did the PS4 Pro but that was only for the Spider-Man limited edition version. Otherwise I would have stuck with the base.
I have even less a reason to get a Pro (especially at that price point). My highest resolution screen is a 1440p monitor and I rarely buy games at launch these days. With all the patches games usually look and run well by the time I play them.
Hard to say whether this will sell. Hardware with Sony either seems to sell poorly (psvr2, vita) or great (consoles, psvr1, ps portal) so who knows.
@Member_the_game At the start of a generation consoles are sold at a loss to boost the install base. They make money from software sales and subs. This is a premium product so cannot be compared to start of gen pricing.
I have yet to upgrade from my PS4 PRO and will pass on the PS5 PRO. The price of $700 seems reasonable until I figure in the hidden costs of purchasing a disc drive and black side covers. The 2TB ssd is nice, but not knowing when a disc drive will be available is not nice. The biggest not nice is like with the slim model, it is still weird ugly looking.
Somewhat annoying is that the PRO is only needed because game makers do not think 60fps and the current gen first. They instead think graphics first and thus continuing the cycle of waiting to next gen or more expensive PRO model to play the good/60fps version of many games.
Six hundred and ninety nine pounds lololololololololololololoololloolololloolol
@GrimWillows
I think it's a fair comparison.
Let's go back to the PS4, the base model I believe started off at £350. A few years later the PS4 Pro came along at £399.
Then a few more years after that the PS5 released at £450 (Now bizzarly selling for £479).
You can see the pattern developing though can't you??
I'm terrible for buying tech that I really don't need, upgraded to PS4 Pro, have a PS5, Series X, Switch OLED, Steam Deck OLED, recently upgraded my workstation with a 4060 and am even thinking of grabbing a PS Portal. But I gotta say, even disregarding the price I've got absolutely no interest in this at all. The PS4 Pro had the 4K factor, but I really dont see what will excite people about this enough to pay so much
Completeley unnecessary console
Looks pretty sweet to me! I plan on buying one, just likely not at launch. Need more time to get the funds together. Hopefully around February/March.
Do I want one? Yes. Will I buy it at that price? Nope, just not going to happen. I can't imagine this will sell a lot.
Genuinely want to know what it does for PS4 games because the PS5 has no games
Personally money is not a problem, but my interest for PlayStation is the first-party exclusive games collection. GoW, GT, R&C, Final Fantasy, etc… Same for Nintendo with Metroid, Zelda, xenoblade, etc… If Sony is only trying to sell me a facsimile of a PC, with all the exclusivity being also released on PC, then I’m going to buy a PC and I don’t see the point of PlayStation anymore. I hate to be taken for someone stupid.
@ButterySmooth30FPS Playing newer games at higher fidelity. Gaming the market - a sale on Steam might be cheaper than a sale on PSN. Modding games that you want to mod. Playing older games in higher fidelity. There are plenty of reasons to have both. If you want to match PS5 Pro, you don't need to spend that much.
The price is wild: the US are paying the equivalent of £530 but here in the UK I have to pay £700?!
@Member_the_game @GrimWillows Wasn't there a lot of talk a while back signalling that companies would likely stop taking the hit on consoles at launch as they are just not seeing the same levels of return as in previous generations.
I could be making it up but I am sure it was heavily hinted that those days where long gone.
I'm considering selling my og ps5 and buying it but it depends if you can buy the detachable disk drive at the same time
Is this a troll poll? Yikes, but it seems that there ARE people who are sold on it.. Not much, but still.
I'm not a fan of the whole slim/pro models. Never bought any slim or pro model of any PlayStation and I'm not starting now. I don't get that every generation console from Sony now has to have a slim and a pro model down the line. Seems like a lot of lost focus and resources to me but what do I know, I'm sure there's an audience for these models.
So people are OK with buying flagship smartphones for over 1k but are outraged about this..? Ha!
I'll just copy/paste my comment from the other article. I'll be selling my standard PS5 along with the still sealed official Spider-Man 2 face plates for another $150-$200 to get the Pro. Not right away, but probably sometime in 2nd quarter of 2025. Don't care about no disc drive because I never used the one on the original PS5. All of my games are digital and the drive doesn't support Dolby Vision for 4K Blu-rays so I have no use for it.
That said, I'd like to see someone build a PC for $700 that has the same or better performance. When LTT did that for the og PS5, the PS5 performed better overall than the PC at the same price.
Another PlayStation L
Adding together those that say they'll be pre-ordering or can wait, the poll is looking very much like the PS4 Pro's market share, which I think I recall was just under 20% of the overall PS4 install base by the end.
Looks to me like Sony knows what it's doing.
I'm the most hard-core playstation owner there is and I was all for a ps5 pro.
But at £699.99 no disc drive, not even including the stand, nor does it come with the dualsense edge controller, yes a 2tb ssd.
But watching that presentation did, anyone else feel as though even Mark Cerny was clutching at straws to show you the differences.
He even said it himself, that it may not get to 4k 60fps, in his wording.
I always knew it was going to be a graphics update, with a better ceiling for developers.
But nothing in that presentation screamed yes I need to buy, nothing was shown that can justify a £220 price increase from the ps5 slim dosc version.
That is truly what it comes down to.
£700 it aint worth it and the time scale aswel.
Its a month away, no time for anyone to actually save up.
I xant believe I'm saying it but I believe this maybe the firdt console I actually pass on.
@wildcat_kickz
It's not marketed to true enthusiasts if it doesn't come standard with a disc drive. I'm not sure who this is for. As it stands, this does less than a base model. No disc drive out of the box is a severe handicap.
I've bought all their new hardware for the last 15 years, day one. I am the target market for this, I think. Bought the PS4 Pro, the VR, the VR2, the Edge controller, the Portal, virtually everything they've put out, a bajillion Sony headsets, all the rest. Multiple PS5s at this point. And I wouldn't touch this with a ten foot pole.
I'm - really - curious to see how many units they move with this. It's cheaper than PC but only just at that price. Though it's not the price that bothers me necessarily is what I'm saying, it's the entire concept of it.
It's not just that the price is ridiculous, this is a low-value "upgrade" that's blatantly pointless to own and will be replaced by the PS6 in what seems like a mere moment.
It's an optional GTA6 framerate boost for $700 with no disc drive included.
What gets me they never even said that a game will be full native 4K at 60fps with all bells and whistle.
It could be a lot smaller upgrades than we think.
Smoke and mirrors.
Price is a little steep but compares favorably against getting the same performance from a PC.
I'll be pre-ordering one and putting my regular PS5 out pasture with the PS4, 3, 2, and 1. I'm collecting anyway!
Price is insane but its also crazy calling it a pro and not including a disc drive. It's inferior in some ways to a base model
This is going to be real expensive once you add on the scalper tax.....
I’ll stick with my PS5 and ROG Ally combo. The price is high, but I see no point in the console. It’s not a PC where all games have scalable graphics and all games benefit from a hardware upgrade. Here, you can only get extra bells and whistles if a dev decides to make a Pro patch. No thanks, PS4 Pro taught me that it’s not worth the money.
The PS6 is gonna compete with PC prices next. £1200 for the PS6.
Way too expensive. Was interested, but there's not a snowball's chance in hell people will be paying that price.
Feels like the Sony of the PS3 days again: hubristic and greedy.
So many whining here about it being too expensive and yet it will sell-out and be unavailable for months, likely years.
the price in EU with the stand and Disk drive is 920€!!! WTF!!!! epic fail!
@UnlimitedSevens I'm not sure the disc drive is as big of a deal as it used to be. I have the disc model of the OG PS5 and I only use it for PS4 games and Blu-Ray movies. I've never purchased a single PS5 game on disc. Since you can install a disc drive (the same one as the Slim) at a later date, I don't see the issue, personally.
If it turns out it gives a really good boost to VR and the price comes down £100, it's a maybe for me.
I'm normally an optimist but I don't see it doing well at £700.
the 16% of you who are interested in spending almost 1k euros for this have more cents than brains.
it was almost 20 year agos sony trying to release a ps3 for 600 bucks and everyone grilled sony for it. and now fast forward to today this is ok.
the excuse pc gaming is too expensive, has truly gone out the window. this will only encourage sony to charge 800-1k again when the ps6 comes out.
I really wanted to get one.
I really did.
But not at that price.
For reference, the price is:
$699.99 USD / €799.99 Euro
That equals $882 USD for us European. And that is without a disc drive, that's insane!
Or another way to look at it, in the USA people pay the equivalent of €633,98.
If I didn't already own a PS5 then maybe, just maybe I would consider it.
Right now I'd rather wait to see what the Switch 2 will be and spend my money towards that/
The Switch 2 is probably cheaper and brings complete new gaming experiences.
Seems a better deal than just better graphical performance in games that already look pretty good if you ask me.
Not a chance. Crazy money for very little upgrade. No point.
Na
No disc drive is a deal breaker. It should come with that built in, not sold separately.
@Bamila pube split ends? 😂
The price is obviously what most people are going to choke on their tea over, but it's how little of an improvement it is that's my dealbreaker. I almost certainly wasn't going to bother anyway, but this seems like a big chunk of money for a slightly better machine than the one I bought a few years ago and they've released like six games for.
Considering I play on the Portal and the kids play in front of the TV, not really worth it. The Portal would be compromised because it is streaming, and the kids don't exactly care about bleeding edge tech. I'm not saying it's pointless. If I was single with way too much money again, yeah, I'd buy one. No use for it here.
Will definitely buy one. I guess the trade in program is coming soon.
I’ll be going into my local store tomorrow or at the weekend to preorder. I can’t wait.
No, we've only just started getting games which justify a PS5, never mind a £700 PS Pro with no disc drive
@SoulChimera
On the plus side, based on the comments, sounds like you won't have much competition to snag one.
I don't care about the disk drive. I haven't played any of my physical games in over a year. The lack of a stand is baffling to me. The price being 800 euro is too high. I was a day 1 preorder now I'm not so sure.
I hope it fails; Sony needs to get checked. This generation has been middling compared to previous ones.
Between this and upping the costs of controllers and the fact that even the stand is sold separately. I'm not going to defend them nickel and diming us like that.
Over a thousand in Canada after currency conversion and tax. Also no disk drive, I know it’s against ToS to sell PlayStation accounts but I’m done. Never been so proud to have left an ecosystem.
I think $700 is a fair price given the world economic realities that prevent the PS5 from being reduced in price. $200 over the base PS5 makes sense, but the lack of a disc drive, even though I don't use it, is itself an unacceptable price increase, however.
The separate drive is a genius move on Sony's part from a manufacturing and business point of view, but it is not as consumer-friendly as it appears.
£700 is a massive ask and the upgrades nowhere near justify the cost for me. Particularly when it lacks a disk drive. This makes me increasingly worried about the base cost of a PS6.
Will be amazed if this sells well. It's absolutely the definition of enthusiast device. Hope Sony isn't banking on selling large numbers - they won't at that price that's for sure. But of course if you wait 12 months the price might be 800 quid so...
If this is dropping for 700 quid, goodness knows what PS6 would launch at.
I still dont get why this is needed. Yes I get the 4k, 60 fps issue is an issue for some, but is it worth 700 pounds (plus extra for a disc drive)?
I don't believe we are anywhere close to tapping out the base PS5. Most titles are still running on PS4 Xbox series S after all.
I would love one and could probarbly afford one but im not willing to pay £800 for a console i can play my disks on. Thats just rediculous imo. I will just stick with my OG ps5 and get myself the switch 2 and possibly build myself a gaming PC.
I understand how big a jump in asking price it is. Only when compared to the PC/Graphics Card price explosion can that steep of an increase be explained, albeit for many not justified.
I have a dumb question - how good does your tv have to be for you to notice a difference? I am not too observant when it comes to picture quality, frame rate and such.
Sony complaining they don't have enough new ip's. Maybe so but they've got some damn fine comedians 🤣🤣
@NeonMullet earlier this year I made that exact choice. Being new to Pc gaming at 34 years old, I just started with a prebuilt for 1500 after taxes CAD. Spec wise runs everything I throw at it, minimal frame issues and haven’t ever seen below 58 fps with maxed out Raytracing and all. It’s nuts, and at that I have no mandatory subscription to spend on and a free ecosystem to get better deals in.
I’m happy.
thought it was september not april the 1st can buy alot of games £700
Not on your nelly!
If they'd chucked in the disc drive, and made it fully back-compat with the entire legacy of PS consoles, I might have been interested...
It’s for enthusiasts. The PS4 PRO was 20% of the market and the PS5 PRO will be exactly the same. Take my money Sony, I’ll take any upgrade I can get for better Ray Tracing and resolutions
I can't wait for this! Sony winning
For about £500 I would buy it. £700 is crazy for a console though! Maybe once there is a hefty price cut, but I might just wait for PS6 depending on how long that might take!
@UnlimitedSevens Haha. That’s actually what I said on one of the other threads. Would be nice to just be able to walk into a shop and pick one up without preordering.
The game I will mainly get it for will be GTAVI. It’s going to benefit massively from these specs no doubt
@Mikey856 It's a small CPU clock speed bump and a little bit of boosted RT performance with AI super resolution garbage.
Can't make a GPU that can natively render the damn pixels? Fake it with AI and introduce artifacts.
Really good deal there, buddy.
@SoulChimera
I mean, they gotta know what the demand is for this, so the only difficulty I can foresee is they just don't make that many. The online reaction to this has been astoundingly negative across all channels and corners of the internet. Absolutely getting blasted, everywhere. The YouTube official reveal video is getting ratioed to the depths. I'm honestly surprised they haven't disabled comments yet, it's that bad.
Buuuuut, that means better odds for those that are interested, so that's 👍. Despite me being somewhat disgusted by this, I'd rather real gamers get their hands on it than scalpers.
If you are truly interested, I'd jump on preorders when they open, just to be on the safe side.
Maybe. I am in the crowd of always wanting to play quality mode, but being 'forced' into performance mode for battery gameplay. I also really enjoy PSVR2 and would hope this new power can be used in compelling ways in VR games (as barebones and barren as they are).
The lack of a disc drive is a huge bummer. I never buy physical games anymore, but I do have a large collection of blurays/uhd movies. Being that I still have to keep my PS3 around for 3D blurays though.. maybe it's time to consider a standalone player.
I would like to see this power used to offer more 120fps experiences too. They also mentioned wifi7, but having ethernet is still a requirement for me. I would assume they have one, but you can't make assumptions anymore....
If I get one I'll just remove the disc drive from my slim and install it in the pro and sell the slim as digital if I decide to get it.
Thanks Sony for convincing me to keep my OG PS5 and getting a Switch 2 instead 👍
Hahahahhahahaha, am I buying a PS5 Pro! Hahahaha a PS5 Pro! HAHA Good one! Hahahaha!!
Oh, wait, you were serious?
@Kelrics90 you say just a boosted RT but a decent RT prescience can be game changing visually when all effects are thrown together which is clearly what’s happening in that little bit of horizon footage. Wow wow wow. What’s the mantra… it’s marginal gains here and there all add up to a big difference.
@UnlimitedSevens For that price it had better come with Kinekt and a Cell processor or two.
@Steel76 how much did your PC cost to build? I’m assuming not £700
Even if the price were only slightly higher than the regular PS5, and it included a built in disc drive, it doesn't seem to offer much of anything that I care about in the way of making games better.
Broadly speaking, the focus of games in this generation - shinier, faster, throwing more at the screen at once, just isn't what I want it to be. I want better graphics and lighting, but on games that are as massive and deep as the ones that were common at the end of the PS3 and early PS4 eras.
I’m Feeling like this generation hasnt event gotten started really, and then this. I think my sights are now squarely set on what the new Switch 2 will bring. Also i have a back log and so many retro games id like to play. Im to the point that i just dont care about the newest and latest PS. But good for those who do.
Bad move on this one. For me as a Canadian, I’m going to be looking at right around a 1000 dollar price tag. Just feels really tone deaf and shocking. No disk drive on a pro console? What a time to be a leaf. I’ll be skipping this one, Sony.
That's way too expensive for me. If someone has the disposable income and wants to get this, then good for them, but there's no way I could spend that much on a console.
Nope. And if the PS6 is gonna be priced similarly (which I expect) the PS5 will be my last console. I'll be going back to PC only. Maybe if Microsoft makes an Xbox that can run Steam, that could be interesting.
I’ll say this, people who have the money and wants to get it, go ahead, everyone else, we’ll not the target audience, and let’s see what’s the ps6 price is before jumping to conclusions.
besides, you don’t have to get it if you don’t want to, but you don’t have to tell people what to do
A year or 2 ago, I would have been in the pre-order camp. Now I don’t see any must-buy games that would benefit enough over my existing PS5. It will be awhile before FF7’s final installment, and I already platinum’d FF16. The PS5 Pro won’t run GTA6 at 60 FPS, and that game will be patched up and ready to play right around the time the PS6 launches.
besides sony is not expecting it to outsell the base models anyway.
just thinking about business wise.
besides, for the people who really want it, you don’t want the scalpers to get their hands on them first right?
@NEStalgia
It better rub my feet and tell me I'm pretty.
We need Jack Tretton back. Good lord, what are we gonna do with this company.
@Frmknst how much waning goodwill does this move cost Sony?
i mean if you have a base console, why are we complaining about it
@UnlimitedSevens
well after a few weeks, this is will be forgotten besides the ponies
No disc drive is a major deal breaker for me in addition to price. Was all for it until those tid bits of news
If I knew they had several PSVR2 AAA 40+hr games in the pipeline that were going to somehow benefit then maybe if there was a disc drive in it too
i mean if you’re that upset about it, don’t buy it or better yet since you guys are so petty, just switch to xbox and worship that
@Rjak I heard there’s a way. Sorry I have no link or anything for you, but I’ve heard it’s doable.
Would be nice to have an Xbox that has that capability natively however.
we all have better things than just complain on the internet all day
@NEStalgia don’t forget some dance dance revolution footpads!
Nope, keeping my PS5. The pro is probably half baked. Prefer a new gen so I’ll wait for PS6.
Wasn’t the PS4 Pro the noisiest console ever? The PS5 Pro will have its issues and it’s a matter of time to find them out.
If this console generation lacked backward compatibility, it would have been a disaster. An upgrade wouldn't be necessary for me.
I'm not rich, sorry.
@guardianoftime yeah it was, I remember playing horizon on it and I thought it was gonna explode 😂
Hey Google...how do I build my own PC?
@Steel76 most people have both ,unfortunately only a minority has a pc capable of running games to the settings of a ps5
@MasterEMFG Yeah, it would need native Steam support. Could be awesome for gamers and a big win for Microsoft.
Without disk drive, or ability to sell or gift games bought digitally. Including to charity shop down the road if I choose. No, sorry having every generation of playstation since the OG playstation I don't think I'll get this generation. Or even the next 6 if Sony doesn't give physical media
@8bit4Life it's possible that gta will run at 60 on the pro , they would've had the dev kits for ages now , if they can get it at upscaled 4k 60fps with all the bells and whistles, guaranteed Sony will make a massive song and dance about it
I might pick one up and pass my base unit to the kid who is currently using my old PS4. I can afford it. But $700 without the disc drive and base just feels dirty.
People call this a "luxury item" but what kind of luxury item doesn't come with the basics, like a disc drive? Also, the upgrades they showcased amounted to higher fidelity in the backgrounds. Not a great selling point.
Have been holding off on buying my first console since the Xbox 360 for well over a year now. Didn't want to spend £400 on the PS5 as the pro was on the horizon. Now that it's here I can't justify almost double the price, and being that I'm fussy and want the best version, the wait will continue until it's more reasonable... or I'll just not bother, we will see.
Can't help thinking Sony have seen how Nvidia can jack prices up obscene amounts and people will still pay, and they're following suit.
Nvidia's pricing has killed PC gaming for me which was why I was thinking of getting a console.
@Pandalulz ..... Then don't support this kind of practice and just get another regular PS5 for your kid.
@Steel76 so you spends thousands on something where everything it can do can all be done by the phone in your pocket? Yeah okay, of course You didn’t buy a red hot expensive pc to play games in there best form. Well guess what this gives people who don’t play pc a chance to play the games available to us on PlayStation in the best form. Although surely currency value should be playing a part here !
I told few days ago Sony will tag it £1000. If you add basic accessories that should be included, but are sold separately I was not so far from truth...
My favorite thing about the Pro is that it will no longer challenge developers to make PS5 games play to its own advertised specs.
@ButterySmooth30FPS same here
Grand theft auto 6 on the PS5 pro will shift some units
@Mintie corporate greed
Whoopee doo, £699 no thanks, my original PS5 is more than good enough. Astrobot looks stunning that's good enough for me. This mid cycle upgrade crap needs to stop. The whole purpose of previous gens was maxing out the tech you had. Same should apply. PS1, PS2, PS3, PS4 all pushed to the limits.
Honestly, some of the comments and comparisons on this news are absolutely stupid.
You're comparing a $700 console with a $1500 PC when clearly the PC can do much more than just gaming. People don't build a $1500 PC just to play games on it. It's a major use of the machine, but capabilities wise, most people are ok paying $1500 for a PC than $700 for the new PS5 Pro. I have a $3000 PC for my needs, but even I'll be thinking twice of upgrading my PS5 to Pro.
It's the same stupid comparison with buying the latest smartphones for over $1000.00. A smartphone has been pretty much integral to everyone's daily lifes these days. And yet again, is capable of doing much much more as well as fulfilling more human needs than a PS5 Pro.
While you're at it, why don't you compare the hesitance of buying the new PS5 Pro with spending over $500 over a nice Wagyu dinner? let's all be stupid about it.
It boils down to the perceived value of the offerings.
It's fine if you're ok with the price being charged for PS5 pro, but let's not kid yourself with stupid comparisons like those. It's 2024, get better.
Um... No
I already have PS5 Fat that I bought last June 2024 with price IDR 8,900,000 or around USD 575.14
That was the most expensive purchase I have ever done.
I was looking forward to it, even bought new LG 144Hz TV which runs at 120Hz with PS5, it does look great. I did get a HDR TV when I got the PS4 pro, which also was a great upgrade. This announcement isn't good enough to justify the price of the PS5 pro
Too expense for what I want. The main reason I jumped so quickly to ps5 was for loading times. I have that and while impressive specs, something I won't upgrade too until the ps6...unless GTA 6 runs like crap on base ps5 then I might consider the ps5 pro my ps6.
@OldGamer999 it's 2tb
It is expensive! I have OCD and can't help but want to buy the newest and latest model. I will pre order it but Jesus the Mrs handbag budget just went up a notch!
I don't own a Playstation console, but the speculation on the PS5 Pro had me excited and thinking about getting one just to play some of the games on PS. Then I saw the price... No thanks. The price for this is extortionately unjustified and just sheer corporate greed (you may as well just buy a gaming laptop or PC at this price point). Great games or not I won't be buying one anymore, or for the foreseeable future. I have a feeling that Sony really shot themselves in the avaricious foot here.
Take my damn money already!
Maybe it's worth $700, but like I already dropped $500 on a normal PS5...
@Bamila scalpers won't touch this. It's an overpriced enthusiast product that's facing major backlash, no fear of it selling out, scalpers won't want to be left out of pocket like they were with the ps5 in the end.
@obiwan3001 not if people want to play the physical version...
@CrashBandicoat looking at the sheer backlash on YouTube and Reddit, I really don't think the demand is going to exceed the supply.
Overpriced, no disc drive included and not even that much if an upgrade in the real world tests he showed.
Gamers have learnt to wait for the PS6
I'll be waiting for the Slim or Pro edition of the PS6, I'm good!
So the point is - this 9m teaser didn't provide ANY reason to buy a PS5 Pro - especially at USD200 mark up (admittedly you're swapping a disc drive for an extra 1.2 GB SSD). The comparisons they showed were meaningless in a gaming context... and worryingly, don't even go so far as to say you can achieve 60FPS on the games that they mentioned. And seriously - after all this, such a pitiful selection of games... no Elden Ring, no Cyberpunk, no Baldurs Gate 3... (perhaps because these might be CPU limited?). This just sounds to me like whale-hunting for all the people who just want to advertise their over-monetized stupidity and vanity. Show some real value, and it might be a conversation... at the moment, this just feels half-baked. I just can't believe they don't sell a boxed disc-version... that's just insane in my opinion, if they're selling to the niche gamer enthusiast market.
@Elodin they can't afford to make GTA6 run crap, because next to no-one will own a PS5 Pro... they would literally be shooting themselves in the foot. Even as it is - this console is requiring developers to spend time and effort to develop for a console that almost no one will own. Questionable how much impact it really has in the third-party world.
Are people not realizing that if you buy a base ps5 digital for 449 or a base disc ps5 for 499 and then buy a 2TB SSD to go in those you're spending $650-700!!!? Or buy a ps5 Pro for $700 that you can game at 4k 60fps advanced Ray tracing and comes with a 2TB SSD already in it!! Makes sense to me!! Now if they charged 700 for 825GB SSD then you might have a reason to bitch about it!!
Sold BUT.......... not in a hurry to get one, also it is annoying as someone who owns both physical and digital games that we'd have to buy the disc drive separately. Should have maybe bundled it.
⚬ $200 more (for a mid-gen upgrade)
⚬ No disc drive
⚬ Stand not included
⚬ Pretty much the same ugly design
It's a pass for me.
For sure I will pre order it. In my country this costs less than a decent 40series graphics card and i can give my ps5 to one of my kids. Some upgrade is due in my house, this makes the most sense
I already felt that the PS5 was overpriced (especially where I live), so there's absolutely no way in hell that I'm even considering getting the PS5 Pro.
Looks like it's PC Gaming for me in the future.
£700 is nearly $1000.
Lmao.
No chance.
I reckon this was going to be £599 - and then Concord flopped...
800€ = 9147 Swedish Krona. (But without salestax so that will end up at around 900-1000€)
Added drive 1499 Swedish Krona = ~131€
Stand (if same price as slimstand) 349 Swedish Krona ~31€
So Ps5 Pro: at least 962€, but more likely around 1100Euro+...
This is Sony Playstation 2024 after taking my money for overpriced PS5 (due to covid they said), very expensive PSVR2 and a fairly expensive Portal.
But were is the games Sony? And now this....
Greedy *****!
Yey yey, "I don't need to buy one" some say, but when you have been an enthusiast like me since PS1 release it's hard to just quit gaming, but this price actually took the enthusiasm out of this enthusiast so to speak. I been on this ride for centuries, but this isn't a good price for consoles. This price is what made me skip PC gaming all those years back.
I think Sony's leadership needs a little reality check to be fair.
I got the money, but the worth isn't in the Playstationbrand anymore. This is just a quick cashgrab after years of no 1stparty hits raking in their money and Concordecrap.
And now WE, their hardcore crowd are meant to pay with a kidney to fill their big empty chest of gold.... Don't think so.
Rise White Knights to tell me I'm a pleb, I'm poor and whatever lies you can come up with to diminish this post, but this ain't how they should do it.
Blame China for high prices on components or whatever, but Sony shouldn't built it to begin with if their prices was too high imho.
Sony went from FOR THE PLAYERS to FOR THE PAYERS.
I rather play games than helping PS board get their bonuses so I can only vote with my wallet. I hope you guys do the same to be honest!
Even ASTRO Bot cost me 90€ digital from PSN Store just last week. It all adds up Sony, and not in a good way
@dreadpirateflappy pretty sure you can still get the disc drive. Why is everybody such a cry baby.
So it's
£700 for console
£100 for disk drive
£30 for the stand
So roughly £830 for complete console
Fuk me that's "EFFING VERTICAL"
The pro seems to be everything that sony promised with the base ps5 and never delivered.
£700 to "upgrade" to a last gen graphics card. They are having a laugh.
It was also kinda sad they only showed their remakes of a remake in their Pro trailer. I know they probably show more new games next week, but anyway, please rewatch PS5 Pro trailer and tell me it didn't feel like a PS4 Pro showcase?!!
@Fakeplastictree the problem with that statement is that the Pro is upgrading to the equivalent of a 30 series card, not a 40.
We're almost 4 years into the PS5 now, we're over the halfway mark. Tentpole games like Horizon and God of War look incredible and play great. The instantaneous loading alone sold me on upgrading to PS5 and I'm happy to wait for PS6 for ray tracing at 60 fps and whatnot.
I think with the price and specs, Sony left themselves in a no mans land.
Causal gamers are by large not going to care about higher frame rates or graphics looking slightly better, if you look hard enough.
Hardcore/enthusiast gamers are more likely to spend extra money and get a PC that will be able to run games much faster and at higher settings than Pro (or already own one)
The poll is interesting. It has stayed pretty steady as more votes have been added. Around 10% say they will buy the PS5 Pro at launch. Around 15% say they will buy it sometimes and around 20% will buy or are interested but need more info. While this is an enthusiast site those are much higher than I would have guessed.
Somebody needs to check on Sony to see if they are OK !! First the debacle of Concord, then they score a massive win with Astro Bot, and now they slap us down again with the price of the PS5 Pro…..and all of this within the space of a few weeks! I’m still happy with my PS4 Pro, and whilst I’ve been toying with the idea of a PS5 for a while now, yesterdays announcement finally put that thought to rest! £700 for a few graphical tweaks is insane! The days of simply picking up a game and getting straight into it seem to be long gone…..its all about trying to make AAA games look as realistic and fantastic as possible….but without actual decent gameplay the ‘wow factor’ soon wears off. I’ll probably pick one up in CEX in around 10 years time!
I’m sold on it. But, for that price, it’s not sold TO me.
Mark Cerny's 'magic' just doesn't fly here.
Trying to talk up resolution and framerate gains with side-by-sides of The Last of Us Part II, R&C just fell flat for me, and I'm sure many others.
I'm not saying it's not worth its price and that it doesn't have value, but how bland was that demonstration with Cerny? He just couldn't lift the PS5 Pro high enough.
If there is a situation where my PS5 dies, the Pro is on sale, and it's another 3+ years until the PS6, then it's a maybe. It's like Marvel movies-- the more they pumped out the less I cared until I stopped watching entirely.
Sony should have announced the Pro the same day as Astro Bot was released....might have softened the blow a bit !
Tell Sony they're dreaming.
What an extremely disappointing reveal. So much for just passing my buddy a disc! No built-in disc drive, no sale.
@Member_the_game Your hobby is gaming, so to say that the PS5 Pro has priced you out of your favourite hobby is inaccurate. Does the existence of Ferrari mean that the average joe is priced out of motoring? Of course not, as there are still plenty of cost effective means available.
The argument over cost is understandable, but often misguided. The PS5 Pro is an option, nothing more. Existing PS5 consoles will continue to function and existing PS5 games will continue to play. If you're on PS5 already, nothing will change. If you want some extra bells and whistles, and you consider the cost acceptable, then the PS5 Pro is for you. If you don't, then you were never the target market in the first place.
@Cypher_Unknown
I think you're missing my point.
The Pro itself doesn't price me out as I've already got a standard PS5 and I don't particularly need a Pro.
It's looking to the future that scares me.
The PS6 will obviously be even more beefed up and powerful and this is where i'll probably be priced out.
There's no way the PS6 will sell for any less than this.... if anything it's likely to be more ...... much more...... and that scares the Hell out of me
I've owned every Playstation so far, but if this is a sign of what's to come that I feel the PS6 will be beyond what I'm prepared to pay
@Member_the_game Ah, fair point about looking to the future. I hadn't considered that angle.
I would say that when considering the PS6, this will be the start of a new generation and Sony will likely want to ensure a large install base as soon as possible, so as their "core" console, they will likely price it competitively (as they did with the PS4 and PS5).
The PS5 Pro is more likely considered a niche product with a small target audience, hence the cost. My only real disappointment with the Pro is the lack of a disc drive as standard. That's quite a big omission in my mind.
Ps5 pro what's the point it's just bad timing there is only a back catalogue of games to play and they are in short demand sony is still using the last of us to show case ps5 pro that was on PS4 😔
@Cypher_Unknown
Yeah it's more the future that I'm concerned about than the here and now if this is the way prices are heading.
I'm more than happy with my standard PS5 and will continue to enjoy it without any FOMO on the Pro.
I'm hoping I can still rely on Nintendo to pump out reasonably priced products... I'm really looking forward to finding out more about the Switches successor
Yeah, no thanks. Happy with my original PS5. Now, if they launch Bloodborne remake/sequel and attach it to a Pro? Whoa.
@Fishnpeas good morning! Fully agree, my logic is that if I upgrade, I’d not buy a 30 series card, and here in SA, it is actually easier to get hands on 40 series. And i just prefer the simplicity of a dedicated gaming system over a PC. I already have my work laptop and mac mini connected to my display
@OldGamer999 Well sort of, more like Sony cutting out the middle man themselves by becoming the scalper. Price is ridiculous, especially with the lack of disc drive.
@PrettyPawsome
It’s the forced 2tb of memory that really has me annoyed it could £100 less with 1tb of memory.
Then the user can buy more like now if they wish, giving you the option.
Would rather 1tb in the PS5 Pro and the price still £700 with a better CPU, because that is where a lot of bottle necks are appearing in new games lately on consoles, resulting in reduced frame rates.
GTA6 will be a heavy use CPU game and the PS5 Pro won’t help at all with that as it has the same CPU as the PS5.
In Australia, the PS5 Pro costs $AU1199.95 (w/o disc drive) or $AU1360 with one. For a console, that is going into PC territory (and the PC can be tweaked with higher resolutions and framerates).
Guess, Sony only put out a "Pro" version, as they were "pushed" by the media, YouTubers, and the gaming public as they expected one to come out. This is the result. As for the price point, Sony kept bumping up the price of the PS5, so the Pro version would be more expensive. If they didn't then the PS5 Pro wouldn't cost so much.
At least Sony finally caught up with the SSD storage of the Xbox Series X. 2Tb should be the standard. The 16GB of GDDR6 memory is the same according to IGN. Expected it to be higher.
So, Sony now thinks that players will grab PS+ Extra or Premium and purchase games digitally. Not with the reputation of being frequently hacked. Sony should fix their security issues first before "forcing" players to buy games.
When the PS4 Pro came out, 4K gaming and TV/monitors were abundant. Currently, there are zero 8K games, and very rarely 8K TVs/monitors, so there's no point in future-proofing yourself. Maybe by the time the PS6 or PS7 rolls out, there are 8K games and monitors.
As for the showcase of PS3 / PS4 games, Sony should at least showcase Astro Bot with PS5 Pro enhanced features, or at least upcoming titles.
