It's been desperately quiet in the games industry this week, as everyone jets off on holiday before Gamescom. But behind-the-scenes, geez, we've been busy. Time for some video games, then, eh?
Aaron Bayne, Video Editor
Rollerdrome has got me by the skates. After getting through all the challenges on the basic campaign, I'm going to spend the weekend working through the Out for Blood campaign. So plenty of sick tricks and slow motion shooting.

I've never played Fortnite but that Dragon Ball crossover was all that was needed for them to hook me. I'll also go watch the latest movie this weekend, so I am pretty sure I will also throw in a couple rounds with Gohan in Dragon Ball FighterZ afterwards.
It's a ridiculously short WAYP this time, but we're sure you'll forgive us this once. Of course, we still want to hear what you're playing in the comments section below.

@PenguinLtd good choice and its a brilliant game. Faster paced action. I myself will be playing metro exodus and watching the final series of queen of the south on netflix..have a good weekend people 👍
On PS5 i have re bought Tiny Tina Wonderlands as I'm now getting the season pass since all of the dlc has released, I have also downloaded Returnal from ps plus extra, I sucked at it when it first came out but since then they have released a Co op update so hopefully this helps me to complete it. And finally I have bought Neptunia Re-verse and an hour in and I don't believe this needed this remake, The visuals are also not "next gen"
On the Switch I will be playing a lot more of Xenoblade Chronicles 3, currently 40 hours in and only just started chapter 4, love exploring the huge maps and the story is already better than XC2, my only complaint is the game feels way to easy to level up, I'm now level 43 yet the story level is only 27, and I haven't really grinded.
On my series S I will be trying to complete Back 4 Blood, I'm on Act 4 which is the final boss but for some reason I just can't do it after 4 attempts and I've tried it with both bots and real players, but I will try again today. Once I get that done I will finally start FarCry 5
@PenguinLtd sekiro is a fantastic game but the combat is a lot different from other souls games. I will be finishing the brilliant Guardians of the galaxy, it’s really surprised me how good this game is
Will be giving Hades a try before it leaves gamepass. I've been curious about it for some time but I tried Dead Cells a couple of months back and wanted so much to like it but just couldn't get into it, hopefully it won't be the same with Hades.
Train sim world 2 on the 5, driver parallel lines on the ps2, xenoblade d.e and some Mario kart 8 on the switch.
Got the platinum on Chernobylite brilliant game. Finished House Of Ashes and started Rollerdrome its awesome. Need to continue What Remains Of Edith Finch. Done a pre order for Saints Row for a bit of mindless fun
my ps5 gonna be relegated to a netflix and twitch machine this weekend
Lego Star Wars Skywalker Saga
Superb graphics and playability
Also some MULTIVERSUS and MK11 and GT7
All on PS5
On Ps5 I'll continue with God of War. Working towards the plat. Have to collect all stuff and do the valkyries still. Hope to finish it this weekend.
On my Xbox I just started ff13 and am still taking baby steps into Elden Ring as a samurai. Just roaming around and exploring a bit here and there.
Deus Ex Human Revolution: One of my new years gaming resolutions is to beat 10 games from my backlog and with the recent rumours about there possibly being a new Deus Ex game in development, it got me in the mood to finally have a proper playthrough of this magnificent game. Ironically I've already beat the sequel Mankind Divided, which left a strong impression on me when that game launched. There is also all the DLC that I never played in that game also giving me a reason to replay Mankind Divided again in the future.
What can I say about Human Revolution except that it is an amazing immersive sim, giving me numerous possible paths and outcomes on objectives giving me full freedom to roleplay as the Adam Jenson I so desire. The fact I can play this game as a stealthy ghost, never being seen and going full non-lethality is chefs kiss and is one of the reasons I'd like to invest in playing more games of this genre. Thanks for reading and happy gaming😋
Grinding the Sotenbori arena in the excellent Yakuza: Like A Dragon. Bounty hunting in Red Dead Online.
@PenguinLtd You have saved the best until last, prepare to become a real Shinobi
Might give roller dome trial a go if it is still live, but more TMNT Shredders revenge for me, great game, not quite on the level of SofR 4 but superb. Might start Arcade Paradise, gutted Evil West has been pushed back this week
@Tsushima I have Chernobyl lite in my backlog on PS5 it looks really good just not got round to it yet, is the platinum enjoyable?
Mostly playing Borderlands 3 on PS5 and BioShock Remastered on XSX. Tomorrow I'll be mopping up a few remaining puzzles and chests on Genshin Impact's Apple Archipelago. Finished building my elemental mastery Kazuha so I'll be wreaking havoc with him. Have a good weekend all!
@Mostik Yeah I liked it alot similar to Metro but with the Fallout base building mechanics. Took roughly 27 hours for the Plat
Nintendo Switch: 'Monster Hunter Rise - Sunbreak' - Still loving the expansion, and the new Title Update has opened up some massive possibilities for new sets/builds. Nearly every weapon is viable, and I'm enjoying the ride so far. Just hit MR100, and enjoying also the online MP hunts.
PS5: 'Bloodborne' - its been sat in my backlog for some time, and is one of the remaining FromSoft titles I've not played. Many seem to rank this as their #1 FS game, even above Elden Ring, so I'm really keen to see what all the fuss is about! Shame that there is no patch for 60fps..... but luckily I've been playing a lot of Switch, so the 30fps performance likely won't bother me too much.
I'll be playing through and finishing Spirit Hunter: NG on the PS5.
@PenguinLtd that’s interesting as I’ve beat Sekiro, alongside the other titles you mention, but have yet to play Bloodborne - which I’ll be starting this weekend!
IMO - and this is probably a bit contentious- Sekiro is FromSoft’s ‘magnum opus’ and their finest game to date. It’s a strange take on their usual formula, as there is no scope for builds, summoning or levelling up…. It is just ‘Git Gud’ gaming at its finest!
Once the combat clicks it’s a hugely fun ride, with some of the most memorable boss fights in their catalogue
Nioh 2 with all the dlcs.this game is addicted.one of the best games ever made.looks good on my ps4 pro.the graphics looks good.the gameplay is one of the best i ever play.the story is cool also.the boss fights is extremely fun.one of the best in video games history.its a amazing game.watching my 💛Pittsburgh Steelers🖤 preaseason game.watching the new Texas chainsaw massacre movie.so far its a really good movie.watching legendary sitcoms 📺 tv comedy in living color.good times.sanford and sons.saved by the bell.and martin.word up son
i'm at the post game for tales of arise.
brilliant game.
I'll continue exploring the wonderfully enchanting world of The Pathless on PS5. Maybe make some progress on Transistor and Assault Android Cactus (PS4) and bang my head against a wall repeatedly failing the last couple of licence tests on GT7.
Have a good weekend and happy gaming all.
Still trying to get the platinum trophy for Ghost of Tsushima and do the expansion.
After that I’ll either go back to Life is Strange 2 and continue that game or start we ❤️ Katamari which arrived in the mail a few days ago.
Oh and the fortnite dragon ball super event ofcourse, still want to unlock that glider and the emote and still have 26 levels on the battlepass left until I’m lvl 200
An arty game called Seasons After Fall. Have no idea what I'm doing but I don't need to think about it too much which suits me at moment.
I finally have a weekend to myself with no forced social interactions. Currently playing Two point campus, which I am having a blast with. The Platinum doesn't seem that hard either so I might give that a go.
@LordFlamingo I’ve just started dead cells and I’m loving it.
Digimon Survive. After a real slow start it’s really enjoyable & intriguing.
Only issue is that this game is definitely more of a handheld title. Had to settle for the PS4 version because Switch physical was all sold out. Still a good time.
Have started Trails of Mana, via PS+ premium, enjoying it so far.
Knocking over tins of paint in Stray, which I started this morning.
Also continuing the punishing Crash Bandicoot 4.
Trying to platinum Kena. The Rot god stages on master difficulty ate driving me crazy!
days gone on steam lol off the PlayStation and xbox and switch til ive this cleard lol
Playing Red Dead Redemption 2 before it disappears from Plus Extra. Can't say it feels like the masterpiece everyone says it is yet, but I'm only on chapter 2 so far.
Ghost of Tsushima DC through PS Extra. A fun game with satisfying combat and a nice setting, alongside stunning visuals. Gonna settle in to it over the next few weeks on the journey to Platinum.
Might take some time out at some point to do the Stray speedrun. It’s the only trophy I have left in the game and would like to cap it off.
Mostly Fortnite and Multiversus for me. With all the recent delays, thank god for F2P and GAAS. You can always rely on them.
I'll be going back to Forbidden West on Ultra Hard.
I beat the Bulwark Pit Master the other night. That fight wouldn't have been out of place in Elden Ring.
I picked up Onimusha for €8.00 in the sale too. I hadn't played it in about 20 years. Loving it all over again.
Nothing 😱😱😱
Any Suggestions??? for anything on PS Plus Extra to have a little mess around on before I decide whether to purchase Saints Row day one or not? Just something that's short term fun and possibly that looks cool. Or something major that I can try out and come back to in Autumn/Winter.
If not I might just see if I can finish Watch Dogs 2 or something that I left behind previously, but it's always a bit of an effort going back to games I've not finished. Urgh
Same same. RDR2 and that free Korfu Island dlc in AC Odyssey. Plus probably anything else.
@theheadofabroom If you don't appreciate little details and are gonna gallop at 220kmh from mission to mission rushing through everything before it disappears from Extra, not slowing down to take it all in, you're not gonna see it for the masterpiece it is.
I'm playing DEX, a game I got in a deep Steam sale without much prior knowledge of what I was getting into. Happy to say it's surprisingly good!
In short, it's basically a Deus Ex game in 2D, with a female protagonist. Excellent art style, fun exploration and upgradable skills and augmentations.
Although it isn't perfect (some bugs and weird design choices) it makes me wish there were more games like it.
Started The Pathless and I’m a little disappointed. This was one of the first games I bought when I got my PS5 because I thought the trailer and the gameplay looked really good. I’ve only just got around to playing it and I’ve only played about an hour or so, so far. I’m just not feeling it. I’m hoping it gets better but it hasn’t grabbed me like I thought it would. It feels empty. And I haven’t connected with the character or the world at all. I am going to persevere though. I loved ABZU, so I’ll keep going in the hope it improves. Do you ever have that where you think you’re going to love a game and it just doesn’t connect?
@Shepherd_Tallon True, those pit fights in HFW can be really difficult. Dunno when I'd start my 2nd run but really looking forward to it.
Wave Race 64, such a fun game and so glad to see it show up on NSO! It looks great on the OLED screen, and makes up for the poor 50Hz PAL version I played back in the day. Might also boot up the PS4 for some PS1 Resident Evil.
Saints Row turned up three days early so definitely that.
Ah the joys of physical games.
King of Fighters 15 and Multiversus
Rollerdrome baby! Awesome high score chasing game. Loving it so far.
Mahjong by Microsoft (Android) - Will obtain my silver medal needed for August.
Panzer Geekz (Windows Phone) - Reminds me of Blast Corps quite a bit.
Make It Rain: The Love of Money (Windows Phone) - Nearly done all I can in here.
I've just about maxed out all the characters in The Diofield Chronicle demo so I can carry that progress over into the full game when it launches. I'm super surprised how much I enjoy playing that game. I'll probably be hunting with the bros. in Iceborne this weekend as well.
I think I will go up a few more ranks in AC 4 Black Flag Multiplayer, advance in Ghost of Tsushima and AC China, and maybe clean up a few more remaining missions and ? in Horizon FW. Good weekend folks...
I think I started playing FIFA22 in April, and I haven't stopped yet. I am not even sure there is anything on the horizon to tempt me to stop, and I don't know why I keep playing it. Maybe tomorrow I'll try something different
@Ravix Have you tried the Ghost of Tsushima dlc? Or World of Final Fantasy? As for short term What Remains of Edith Finch or maybe Race The Sun.
Finishing off tales of Arise and a bit of Uno and beers later
@Fight_Teza_Fight I'm still interested in the game but the whole "70/30 ratio" put me off. Is it really that one sided?
I picked up a copy of paper Mario the thousand year door a couple of years back (for a hefty price admittedly).
Played it back in give day but enjoying it all over again.
I’m in the mood for some retro gaming tbh so after that I’ll be playing Luigis mansion 1.
@BeerIsAwesome I will play it too, eventually. Gonna wait because the file size is huge, almost 200 GB.
Fell off Elden Ring (again) just before the Fire Giant, really enjoying the mindless map clearing of AC Origins with its fresh coat of PS5 paint. It also has a better story than I expected, so win/win. Might grab the final two trophies on Stray for the platinum too.
@3Above Unfortunately yes. Wish I could say otherwise as I want the game to do well. It’s a visual novel first & an RPG second. Having said that it’s still Digimon- mature story, evolutions, engaging with the mons, etc. If you’re hesitant I’d say definitely wait for a sale or check some video reviews.
@3Above yeah, I think I'm saving GoT DLC for winter, as a an excuse to play it some more after I completed the main game on PS Plus this year.
Edith Finch I don't have and haven't seen much of, but that would be a nice PS Plus Extra edition for winter also, I feel. As I like a nice atmospheric game in the colder months, and I believe it's that kind of game (an Annapurna release too)
Thanks for the suggestions!
I think I'm just going to have a bit of a mess on Spider-Man again. And I actually just remembered that I downloaded BugSnax the other day so might try that out too 😋
I’ll be out of town all weekend for a wedding so I won’t get to play much; however, when I do get a chance I’ll be sinking time into:
Xenoblade Chronicles 3. I’m 55 hours into the game and just reached chapter 5. The game is phenomenal on every level. And Eunie is my main gal - and her as Ashera’s defender role is quite fun to play. That said, I need a break from the game because all of my (limited) free time is being spent on the game and I don’t want to lose the desire to finish it due to burnout.
As a palate cleanser, I’m playing The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past (Nintendo Switch Online). Admittedly, I had this game on the SNES as a kid but never really put effort in playing it because my time was spent with neighborhood friends playing Super Mario World (one of my all time favorite games) and Donkey Kong Country 2.
Now that I’m finally playing it - what is there to say about this game that hasn’t been said before? The game is a masterpiece in every facet. The atmosphere is incredibly immersive with distinctive art direction (I’m a sucker for 16-BIT) for each location you traverse. The pacing is also fantastic, and it feels like you never lose steam in your progression. One thing that blows my mind is the level design. Though I’ve never played this game before, I have played A Link Between Worlds (3DS) and Cadence of Hyrule (Switch) and I immediately feel at home in this world. The sheer fact that it holds up three decades later is a testament to its brilliance.
@Anke jealousy 😭😭
Shadow of The Colossus. Bought it in 2005, played a bit and then got distracted by other games. Picked up the remake after all these years and I’m nearly at the end. Took its time to grow on me but finally I love it (whereas Ico and The Last Guardian I loved from the outset). On the side Halo Infinite MP.
Saints Row 4, just got to the part with SR3 Shaundi and Fun Shaundi (no, I want to hear what I have to say to myself! - HAH!). One of the many reasons I love this game is during the fight with Veteran Child, Kendzie makes a comment that it should be Veteran "Childs" instead of "children" and the devs change the text mid-mission to reflect this. So many jokes like this leave a goofy grin on my face every time.
@Anke - nice - how does it handle? Looking forward to Tuesday morning!
@CJD87
Nope not contentious at all - you’re bang on with that assessment.
@Fight_Teza_Fight ahh ok. I still love Digimon and I want to see this story as I like the direction it's taking. I just wanted more Turnbased gameplay as iv been playing alot of action games recently. The Diofield Chronicle will have to scratch that itch for the time being but I will get Survive eventually cause I cant resist.
Question: can you still get Guilmon without the preorder/launch bonus?
As for me, Xenoblade Chronicles 3 perhaps. I’m a bit torn because the story is slowly unfolding now and I’m enjoying when the story happens, but I’m still not a huge fan of the overall gameplay loop. But what did I expect? This is how XC1 was too.
Outside that, I’m contemplating picking up Rollerdrome. I loved the trial for it. Might give Azure Striker Gunvolt 3 another round because I just really enjoy the gameplay. I’ve got Blossom Tales 2 and Strange Horticulture kicking around too in the backlog. I could wipe the dust off my Xbox and try As Dusk Falls. I don’t know. I was supposed to go to the theme park today, but the forecast is all rain by me. And then Sunday is for house projects, so that’s a “hopefully l have time to play” type of place and I may want a lower commitment fix than XC3.
Thymesia. Given its price I think the game is pretty neat. It is rough around the edges for sure and obviously not up to From Software’s standards but still very much enjoyable.
Rollerdrome and Thyemsia for me. I’ll dip back into Yakuza LAD and Weird West after I’ve given those both a spin. Also, I hate myself but I want to continue my second run of Elden Ring with a new character.
On my Switch I’ll be mucking about with Triangle Strategy still.
@Ravix oh man I should try Bugsnax sometime!
This has been my Marvel month. Got plats in Spider-Man Remastered and Miles Morales and now about 75% done with Guardians. Will be trying to wrap that up this weekend.
I think I’ll finish up Stray this weekend. After that, I’ll continue re playing Uncharted 4 on the PS5. Have a great weekend everyone!
Just finished up Two Point Campus and absolutely loved it. Will probably spend the rest of the weekend looking at my library, starting and stopping maybe a dozen or so games, and as always being paralyzed by choice.
I finished the Iki Island expansion for Ghost. It was a lot of fun! I was happy to return to Ghost roughly two years after beating it.
Now I'm in a bit of a pickle, wondering what I should play next.
@Deadlyblack Flower.
Max Payne 3 on XSX. Gonna replay Sleeping Dogs after that (4th playthrough).
On PS5- nothing currently, my Final Fantasy 7 Remake is put on hold until I've finished MP3.
Replaying TLOU 2 before TLOU Remake comes out in a few weeks! Happy gaming everyone and stay positive!
I'm playing Yakuza 0.
Battlefield 2042 and the new maps for Alvo on the PSVR.
Been playing at bunch of Wreckfest. Didn't really know anything about it but i'm finding it to be pretty fun. Apart from that though, probably going to start Batman: Arkham Knight, having just beat Asylum and City.
I'm cleaning and drying more clothes, unclogging toilets while having the occasional go at an arcade game in Arcade Paradise.A game that is a lot better than I thought it would be!
Still making my way through Ys Monstrum Nox,I have just reached chapter 7 so I may be coming up to the end unfortunately.
On the Switch im 30 hours or so into Xenoblade Chronicles..still loving it!
Switching through: Hades (PS4 version), Zero Escape: Zero Time Dolemma & Final Fantasy XII. Pretty fun group of games!
Still Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition on my Switch. Didn't get to play a whole lot this week, so I'm still on Chapter 8 (Melia's big story chapter). It's been my favorite chapter, at least since early in the game. Just crossed the 43 hour mark earlier today.
@TheArt I mean I've got about a month and I don't work, so I wasn't planning to rush anything
@UltimateOtaku91 have you tried changing the difficulty to hard on XBC3, if you are already on normal? I am nearly at the point where I’m over levelled for the story too, not that I really mind, but thought I might try cranking up the difficulty soon to see what effect that has
Fortnite because it never disappoints and the DBZ collab is awesome. Also Tiny Tina's Wonderlands which is surprisingly better than expected.
I began God of War Chains of Olympus on the Vita. I can't believe I paid $15 dollars for a game that old and should be on PS plus but I have to catch up on all the God's games. It makes me wish Playstation would bring the Vita back what a great console.
Nothing yet, but I'm planning to take a small break from AC Revelations to play through the Destroy All Humans! 1 remake.
@kyleforrester87 I haven't tried that yet but sounds like a solid idea, it's my own fault though as I fully explored the second map (one with the desert) and even used all my banked exp at a camp. I think from now on I won't use any more of the banked exp
@UltimateOtaku91 yeah I stopped using my bonus XP pretty early after someone on here advised against it. Shame you can’t level down really, it was a feature they included in XBC2. But maybe it only applied to NG+, thinking about it…
Rollerdrome (awesome) and two point campus.
Started Jedi Fallen Order!
Finally got the plat for Untitled goose game!!
Finally picked back up Miles Morales. I out it down awhile ago for whatever reason. Im back in now and loving it. Im about 65% through at the moment. I also picked up Rollerdrome. Its fun but I’m tired of it. Im not sure ill go back to it. But the real star is Wave Race 64 on Switch Online. Its one of my favorite games of all time. And its still just as fun as it was in 1996! Have a great weekend everyone!
I’ll be splitting my time between more of Elden Ring, Horizon: FW, Apex and Maybe Stray. Hoping to get through my back catalogue of Switch Games too and start Xenoblade Chronicles 3. I have the first two games as well but I’m not sure I’ll have the time to jump into those before I start 3.
