Wow, it's crazy to think that we're closing in on Issue 500 (!) of our What Are You Playing This Weekend? series. Well, we say that, but then you Google how many weeks are in a year, and it turns out that 40 weeks equates to over nine whole months. So, in reality, we're not that close at all.
Still, it'll be something to celebrate, and there are plenty of games releasing in the meantime!
Robert Ramsey, Deputy Editor
I'm still coming down off reviewing both Persona 3 Portable and Persona 4 Golden, so I think I'll relax with a bit more of The Witcher 3 over the weekend. I'm really looking forward to playing the absolutely incredible Hearts of Stone expansion again.
Aaron Bayne, Video Producer
I'm begrudgingly trying to muster up the courage to continue on with Death Stranding this weekend. But with Lightfall just over a month away, the distant planets of Destiny 2 are seeming more and more appealing.
Annette Magaña, Reviewer
Oh no! Have we lost Sammy to Genshin Impact? I haven’t gone that rabbit hole yet, but I am spiralling down into the fighting genre. I still can’t land a decent combo to save my controller from button smashing but I am going to give the Breakers Collection a go.
Jamie O'Neill, Reviewer
Thanks to 75% off M2's PS4 Namco Museum Archives Vol 2 in last week's PS Store January Sale, I'm playing NES ports of Pac-Land and Rolling Thunder. Also, that man is playing Galaga. Thought we wouldn't notice, but we did.
Scott McCrae, Reviewer
After a mishap revolving around losing a charger last week, I popped in my unopened copy of Gran Turismo 7 that's been sitting here since August. Safe to say I'm now obsessed with the high stakes racing and low stakes sitting in a café and reading about the world's first cloned horse.
Otherwise, I'm playing something for review this weekend that's hush-hush.
We've had our say, so now it's your turn. As always, tell us all about your weekend gaming plans in the comments section below.

Starting Serious Sam The Second Encounter!
I will try and progress in AC Valhalla even though I do not like it very much. Origins and Odyssey were much better!
And I will play some Sword & Shield!
Happy gaming!!!
Either life is strange true colours or modern warefare 2 campaign. Need something small before dead space on Friday
Feeling a bit of Witcher burnout so have put that to the side to start Elden Ring. Fancy popping on a bit of GT7 as well later as it's been a while.
Picked up MH Rise for cheap as well on the Steam Deck so no doubt carrying on with that when I can prise it away from the wee man.
I played PS4 games today. 🙂
1. Spyro Reignited Trilogy (2019)
2. Doraemon Story of Seasons
I continue the storyline for both of them after I was busy with Story of Seasons: Pioneers of Olive Town PS4.
STILL going through GoW: Ragnarok. Feel I am very near the end now though.
Once done I will be hopping between Need for Speed Unbound and the Last of Us Part 1 until Hogwarts Legacy releases (dependent on reviews)!
Fell Seal: Arbiters Mark. On my second playthrough cleaning up some trophies. Really great game.
Same same. Origins, Valhalla, GoT. Might pop in to Caelid to beat Commander O'Neil for the 2nd time in the legendary ER.
@Zuljaras I feel Valhalla is the best in terms of immersion though.
I'm borrowing my brother's copy of "Midnight Suns" later on but until then I've got "Arkham Blackgate" on the Vita - it's the only one in the series I've never played before.
@shogunrok - genuinely curious how you manage to get through so many LONNNGG games so quickly. Im very jealous 😅
As for me im on chapter 3 of Final Fantasy 7 Crisis Core. Can genuinely say i remember almost nothing about the story despite having played it on psp. Dont like Zack's voice actor at all, but the game is good fun! Hoping i can get it finished in time for Hogwarts Legacy on Feb 10 though!
@LN78 Blackgate massively exceeded my expectations. Its great fun and i hope you enjoy it
@Rob_230 Thanks mate!
On PS5, I’m playing The Last of Us Part I and kinda wishing there was a mod to change Joel’s face to Pedro Pascal (just kidding). Over on Series X, meanwhile, I’m having a great time with both Psychonauts 2 and PowerWash Simulator.
Have a great weekend everyone!
Currently spending my two weeks off work holidaying in a little town called Inaba!
Yup, deep into my beloved 𝐏𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐨𝐧𝐚 𝟒 𝐆𝐨𝐥𝐝𝐞𝐧.
Everything about the game is special to me, from soundtrack to story.
If I had one wish it'd would be that there was still cross saves from console to my Vita. Being able to play on the go and then pick up on the PS5 would be amazing.
Have a great weekend peeps and remember...
"Every day's great at your Juuuness!"
A little game called GOW: Ragnarok. I assume I am almost at midpoint? Really enjoying it more than I should 🥰
The Walking Dead final season, just about to start episode 4. After that I'll feed my Vampire Survivors addiction for a run or two then I'll be making a start on Plague Tale Requiem. Have a good weekend all!
Got myself a Series S today, will play Witcher 2 most likely xD
Rise, Rise and a side of Rise
This weekend I’m mainly playing NieR: Automata on the Nintendo Switch. I originally played the game on the base PS4 when it first released, and the fact I can now play this game (strictly) in handheld is a miracle. I completed it once but didn’t do any subsequent play throughs, so I’m determined to do that this time around to get the full story of what is considered a masterpiece in the medium.
I’ll also be dabbling into Fire Emblem Engage. I bought it, but I’m still relatively hesitant on it overall. The story seems to be hit or miss for some, along with the characters, but the age-old motto is present: Gameplay is king, and Engage apparently has some of the best combat, if not the best, in the entire series. That said, I hope the story will grip me. Unfortunately, the thing that really sets me off from being completely invested is the character models and presentation — it looks way too mobile-y.
I also purchased Persona 3 Portable on the Nintendo Switch. P4G is one of my favorite games of all time, and P5R is just as good - but I’ve never played P3. I was thinking about playing the game via Xbox Game Pass, but I can’t pass up the convenience and portability. I’m looking forward to getting sucked into another masterful JRPG.
I do want to start up Marvel’s Midnight Suns again. I went through the tutorial and thoroughly enjoyed it, but I found it a little too difficult when I had to rescue Blade. That’s probably my inability to really grasp the mechanics. The Deadpool DLC really has me excited to jump back into the game.
I’m on a bus (or several) for a few hours, should have bought the Switch. Hopefully get some Control in if I make it home before Monday!
WRC 10... Project cars 2.... also some isle of man ride on the edge 2...
Crisis Core on PS5 which is ok so far. Also replaying Persona 4 Golden on Steam Deck. So glad the Persona games are more accessible now for everyone!
Bioshock Infinite for me. Been tidying up some platinums. Got 1&2 but have never played Infinite so I'm really looking forward to it. I'm pretty spoiler free too which is surprising when you consider how long it's been out and how loved it is.
I’m having a Persona weekend with some Fallout 4.
@kyleforrester87 Safe journey dude.
Witcher3 on PS5
Having got my platinum for Sonic Frontiers which I really enjoyed (mindless fun) I am now starting the Callisto Protocol. Also playing some Inertial Drift which is great fun and some cool tunes too!! I hardly ever play 2 games at once but this is so pick up and play it is easily done
Happy gaming everyone!
Finished Guardians of the Galaxy yesterday and will be starting Psychonauts 2 later today.
Having a break from cyberpunk so i'm giving devil may cry 5 a go..its very nice looking and quite a slick game too..have a good weekend everybody 👍
Finished A Plagues Tale Requiem a few days ago which I absolutely loved and been trying to find something to replace it.Finally settled on Shadow Of The Tomb Raider on PS Plus which for some bizarre reason I never played before despite loving the Lara Croft franchise.
Also still into One Piece Odyssey although despite original impressions im not into it as much as I was..
On Switch im about 50 hours into Harvestella and still loving it!
Started playing Harvestella on the Switch after finally beating Persona 5 Royal but wasn’t in the mood TBH so I moved on to Super Mario 3D World which I almost beat already so I’ll be playing Bowser’s Fury after.
Might start Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart, Gran Turismo 7 or Horizon Forbidden West on my PS5 after.
I also still have High On Life left on the Xbox Series X.
Fire Emblem Engage will take most of my time on the Switch!
Genshin Impact over the weekend on PS5 is inevitable.
Made into top 500 in Naraka Bladepoint on my XSX. I'll probably play some of that; even though it stresses me out a lot.
I think I may also play some Ready or Not or Darktide on PC, but...I dunno. Don't have the most time, even with a floating holiday I'm taking on Monday.
@starbuck2212 thanks! Shouldn’t be too dangerous at the speed we’re currently doing 😂 I have 3 changes and almost 100 stops. Still, it’s £3.30 for the total journey and I have a flask of coffee so it’s not so bad 🙂 pick up my bike at the other end and cycle home!
PS5
Outlast 2
About a quarter in on this one, i remember playing the first back in the day and it likely being the most intense horror game made, and ive pretty much played them all. Enjoying it so far, the visuals are great, and the enviroment weird and tense, but after playing a ton of horror in VR, flatscreen games just dont bring the scare factor no more.
PC GAME PASS
Deathloop
The game finally clicked for me. It felt like it took forever to explain how to play it, but now that it finally has, im having fun grinding and progressing. The juicy Arkane gameplay is still there, just presented in a new and offkilter way.
Pentiment
At the final act, was surprised the story didnt end after the major events in the last act, but it continues to chug along. Still am intrested in seeing where its going, but with the big shift, im not playing with as much investment.
QUEST 2
Return to Castle Wolfenstein
Just over the midpoint and playing via Team Beef's VR mod. This shooter is definetly oldschool, but quite fun to play in VR, asides from some nonsensical frustrating stealth missions, at least you can save scum those areas, or wouldve called it quits already.
Cyberpunk on ps5. Still cant figure out how good this game is. Some of it I like, some of it I'm not so sure I do.
Monster hunter on series x. Have only just started, but enjoy the older games. Playing in 120hz mode
Luigi mansion 3 on switch. Me and the wife are both really enjoying it. She was watching me play at first, but decided to make her own savefile, and now she is further than me.
I'm playing death stranding and demon souls..eye candy at it's best.
Organised a boosting sesh for Doom: Eternal’s multiplayer trophies, so will have them all bagged by the end of the day 🤞
@LordFlamingo both awesome games, Guardians really caught me by surprise with how good it was. What did you think of it?
My eldest is playing Destiny 2, but he accidentally started playing on my account and doesn't want to lose his progress. So I'm apparently playing that.
When I can get a look-in, it's Fallout 76 (more fun than I expected) and The Pedestrian.
Just started Erica last night. Intriguing game after an hour or so. Doing the playthrough blind and, if interested enough, will then play again with different choices and a guide to see the other sides of the story and get the plat.
Hopefully some more god of war Ragnarok! Have a good one folks
In abit of a lull after finishing gow ragnarok. Put on witcher 3 wasnt feeling it. Tried to get into cyberpunk same thing. Then had gotham knights seemed really average so put that off. So not too sure what to play annoying
Playing the wonderful Marvels Midnight Suns. Finished the story buy doing some post game stuff until the Deadpool dlc drops this week. Surprisingly addicting game which I don't feel like I'm done with yet, not even after already putting 80 hours in.
On my Xbox is Sword and Fairy 7. The Chinese atmosphere and music are pretty awesome. The story and gameplay is okish, still very enjoyable. Also putting some time in One Piece Odyssey. That game is eehm mediocre. Never watched a one piece episode before, but since it was said it was also for new comers and it reminded me of Dq 11 in a way I decided to buy it. Playing it feels very fan service and people aren't lying when they say it is very easy. From what I've played you just use the normal attacks and already one shot most mons.
I’ll be trying to get an albatross in hot shots golf 2 and I may do some wonky spy shooting in syphon filter 3
I’m playing Wet on the PS3! Looking at the trophies I’m about half way through and really enjoying my time with it. Should finish it before the game that inspired me to play it, Wanted: Dead comes out next month.
Continuing my Resident Evil marathon (RE2/3 Remake, RE7 and Village). The remakes are well done imo, runs impeccably smooth and are graphically impressive with ray tracing enabled.
Happy I managed to hold off on playing Village until third person view was released just recently.
A variety of things:
Hitman on PS5.
I took advantage of the Hitman 3 import function for the first two games and it looks amazing. I’m on mission 4 and I’m now much better at focussed murder 😬
Assassins Creed 2 on Switch Lite
Bought the Ezio Collection when it was cheap. Last played AC2 on my PS3 a few years ago so it’s quite fun playing on handheld. Looks decent, plays as well as I remember and so far no glitches.
Cathedral & Claymates on Evercade
Cathedral is a great metroidvania game and plays natively on the Evercade as opposed to being emulated. Claymates is a so-so Super NES platformer which has some good ideas and a fair few really grating ones.
So a fair mixed bunch for me
@itsfoz thats exactly what I've done. I finished ragnarok. Was a toss up between the last of us part 1 or buy need for speed. Decided to play through part 1 and got to say graphics wise is unreal if that's what naughty dog can do to a 2013 game then cannot wait to see what they do with a brand new ps5 game.
Ill get unbound when its on sale. I could only choose one
I'm going for the No Mans Sky platinum, then some Biomutant.
Mostly playing Minecraft but will also fit in The Last of Us Part 1 (:
oh also hyping myself up for Hogwarts Legacy by playing Lego Harry Potter games (;
Final Fantasy XIII on my PS3. I never did finish this back in the day, so with some time before Forspoken, I am working towards finally remedying that mistake.
Continuing Cult of the Lamb with half an eye on going for the platinum, despite the mini-boss related trophies.
GT7, I'm on the dirt track menu book and it's like playing a different game - the cornering took me by surprise!
And finally some admin in Destiny 2, I'm taking a break until Lightfall on 28/02 but I need to sort my weapons and armour and prep my characters between now and then. My vault is a mess.
Trying to beat Slay the Spire (PS4) whilst holding all three relics (keys?) for reasons I can't recall. I've been frustratingly close a couple of times so far.
Also hoping to make some more progress with Headlander (PS4) - An enjoyable sci-fi themed metroidvania with a fantastic 70s aesthetic.
Have a good weekend people.
Playing Atelier Ryza and have put in 47 hours so far and am nearing the end, I’m going for the platinum for this so it’s significantly increased my time spent. I have to beat all 99 side quests which in most JRPGs is useless fetch quests which in this game is slightly true, except Ryza is helping out the villagers of her island and there’s several storylines throughout this. Other than that the hardest things to do will be beating all the post game super bosses and getting 100% of alchemy recipes which I’ve been trudging away at the entirety of my play through, I’m at 89% so the end is near.
The other game I’m playing is Sonic Frontiers which is the first Sonic game I’ve ever bought apart from Sonic mania that I benched after a couple hours, but that was years ago so I might give it another try because I think Sonic Frontiers is fantastic so far. I impulse bought the game after is was on sale for half price on Amazon and my favourite YouTube metal music cover artist “Little V Mills” covered the song undefeatable and was such a banger to listen to, so I decided it was time to give it a go.
I’m still in the first zone and all I can say is this is basically Sonic BOTW, the ambient music is so relaxing as you organically run around doing random challenges and the throwback levels sprinkled about have been fun going for the objectives.
Supposedly level 1-2 is the hardest level for the S rating in time and I got it after 30 minutes of frustration, but was exhilarating to finally beat it but once I got out of it I ran around the open world and was about to fall to my death so I reloaded my auto save to avoid losing all of my coins. Plot twist, the save took me back to before I beat the time trial so I had to beat the speed run a second time. Apart from that small headache the games been very fun and I think the graphics are great minus the outrageous pop in where platforms will literally appear in front of Sonic, I’m fine with a bit of jank and find it to be funny.
Thanks for anyone who actually read this overly long response this week, must be one of my longest responses for what you’re playing this week in a while. Happy gaming and have a good week 😋
I’ve had nothing new to play for the last two weeks whilst I wait for Forspoken and Dead Space to drop next week. So I decided to replay AC: Origins and I’ve really got into it. It’s been too long without a new AC game - didn’t realise how much I missed it. And I love the Egyptian theme.
Im playing one of the best games ever.in middle earth shadow or mordor game of the year edition.talion is one of the greatest protagonist of all times.the gameplay of middle earth shadow of mordor is one if not got the greatest gameplay of any games i ever play.the boss fights is amazing.the story is really excellent.the graphics is amazing.and the wonderful instant classic jrpg scarlet nexus with all the dlcs.another game with one one the best gameplay in a video games ever.yuito is a amazing protagonist.the story is cool.the graphics is excellent.the boss fights is amazing.scarlet nexus is a excellent game.watching the Boston Celtics play💚🖤.watching the nfl playoffs.watching legendary sitcoms tv 📺 comedy in whats happening now.sanford and sons.family matters.the Jeffersons.saved by the bell.and martin. Word up son
I plan on starting Fire Emblem Engage, so I can be overwhelmed when Forspoken comes out next week and then I plan on juggling until we toss Hogwarts in to the mix and my mind breaks. Lol.
Wrapping up Evil West. Last boss on hard and then maybe NG+ on Evil difficulty.
Otherwise it’s Bayonetta 2 and 3, with some Weird West and Chained Echoes mixed in.
I may pick up Crisis Core before months end as I don’t want to pay full price for the DS Renake.
Revisiting Double Dragon Neon on Switch after first playing on PS3 10 years ago! I's still a good game and I think the soundtrack is great. Also maybe some Atari 50th, VCTR-SCTR is one of the stand outs on the collection for me. Though it's a 'new' game which remixes Asteroids, Temest, Lunar Lander... it's really addictive. Jeff Minter's Tempest 2000 has also been updated with analogue control and an overclocked 60fps mode.
Marvel Midnight Suns started this week and really good so far. The combat is the highlight but the social stuff its quite good. Elden Ring working my way through Caelid. Final Fantasy Reunion also all on Ps5. On game pass I intend to start Persona 3 and Monster Hunter Rise
Soon 500 of these eh? Will the PushSquare staff celebrate with a RHCP-style sock-on-the-privates party picture? I guess we'll have to wait to find out.
I remember when PS Blog used to have a similar weekly article about what everyone had been playing/watching/eating/listening to... this was before it became a more corporate ad/announcement blog. Crazy times!
I am playing through Final Fantasy 7 OG on PS4 and I am also working my way though DC Universe Online!
Saboteur replay on PS3. An old favorite that I replay about every 2 years and, thankfully, is just like I remember it. That is open world but simple without huge skill trees and inventories to manage. Also the text and subtitles are easy to read and not tiny. I do wish I could custom map the control layout.
I may also try a new Plus game like the recently added Just Cause 4.
@Rob_230 Haha, well it helps that I know all these re-released RPGs already (I could probably play TW3 in my sleep at this point).
I think it's also just experience. I've been reviewing games for so long that I can grind through just about anything if necessary. Although playing P3 and P4 back-to-back was definitely a bit stupid in hindsight! Fortunately we got review code super early.
Final Fantasy VII Remake for PS5. Currently on chapter 10, right at the beginning of it.
Rayman Jungle Run (Windows Phone) - Still enjoying this in bursts.
Super Monkey Ball 2: Sakura Edition (Windows Phone) - Just starting this, but I do love me some monkey ball!
Age of Sparta (Windows Phone) - Really fell off with this one.
Been playing midnight suns for a while ,pleasant suprise at how good it actually is.
Mostly Monster Hunter Rise and Persona 4 on my Xbox Series X (GamePass). Might jump over to PS5 to play some of TLOU Part 2, which I just started playing a few weeks ago getting into TLOU fever with theTV series.
@ShogunRok “know all these re-released RPGs already”
You ever get yourself a Switch? XC3 is really good. Maybe not as good as the first but I feel way better than the 2nd. If you have 100 hours to spare. Just realized you could get a Switch and play all 3 on 1 console. Those 3 games alone might be worth the $300 expense.🤷🏻♂️
Got the platinum in GoW Ragnarok last night, just in time for Forspoken.
Will probably take it easy now until Tuesday with something like Syphon Filter or Matterfall.
It's going to be mostly Fire Emblem Engage this weekend for me. Very excited to play it! But I might sneak in a bit of PGA 2K23 to make sure I don't get rusty.
Replayed the Forspoken demo and totally blown away. I took the time to read and figure out the magic mechanic and it’s so good. It’s so fluid! I had to force myself to stop playing and as I don’t want to spoil anything or get burnt out clearing things in the demo before the game comes out. 180 from the last demo. Can’t wait! Some of the banter is actually hilarious as well.
So at the moment switching between the new Fire Emblem and my first devil my cry game (ps5 vs of #5) really good combat but Forspoken definitely an upgrade in fluidity and more satisfying. I can not freaking wait for Forspoken!
@awp69 oh man you’re in for a treat. TLoU2 was something special.
@rjejr Got a Switch but I don't really have time to play it (which may not come as a surprise!).
@NoCode23 Saboteur is one of the most underrated games ever. Re-bought it via GoG on PC to relive it in glorious 60 fps at higher res. I connected my PC to my OLED TV just for that game, lol
Went back to playing Sniper Elite 4 via Plus and enjoyed it so much that I have ordered 5 which should be next weekends gaming input from me.
Playing the lovely and cozy Wytchwood through Plus Extra
Final Fantasy XIV and The Witcher 3 still. I might give Persona 3 a go on my Series S.
I'm finishing up the last chapter in Crisis Core Reunion. I don't like being this negative about FF cause I love this series to death including many of it's spin offs, but this game has disappointed me massively so I'm not even sure I want to try to get the platinum for it. That would mean going through all the side missions which have been some of the most mundane things I've ever had to do in a game before. Sure they're extremely short but supposedly there's 300 of them or so and my game says I've only done about 30% while at the last chapter. I just don't have a lot of nice things to say about this game other than it looks pretty good and it was neat seeing some of the characters from ff7. I'm conflicted cause I want the plat since it's relatively easy but I don't really want to keep playing the game anymore lol
Along side that, I'll be playing some Monster Hunter Rise. So far so good but it's been kinda easy so far in that they seem to have taken off massive amounts of HP off of these early game monsters. I've spent more time getting to them than actually killing them
Just starting Journey to the Savage Planet. So far so good.
Playing Ragnarok very slowly as I don't want it to end!
@ShogunRok Haha that's fair! I used to be able to keep up but these days i only get a couple of hours after the kids go to bed. Means i just see my backlog grow and grow 😅.
It doesnt help that like to do lots of side content too. Think it took me 4 months to do Forbidden West, and 2 for Ragnorak!
Im looking forward to playing P4G again in due course. Loved it on my Vita. Which Persona game is your favourite now? Such a hard call between 4 and 5 - but think 5 probably clinches it. Cant wait for the next one!
I finished Lost Judgment last night. Fantastic entry into the series.
Since the Dead Space Remake is so close, I may see if I can finish Octo Expansion and maybe some vr?
@Rob_230 It's got to be P5 for me. Playing 3 and 4 again made me realise just how much P5 improves the Persona formula, even though it's already fantastic in P4.
The little additions and improvements add up massively, especially in the combat system. I'd actually go as far to say that I've got an even greater appreciation for P5 now, which I didn't think was possible!
And yeah, fully keeping up with gaming when you've got a family to worry about is ridiculously difficult — especially these days when we're absolutely spoilt for choice.
I’m still playing Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot. Hopefully I’ll finish it in time for Forspoken.
Currently playing Persona 4 Golden which will probably be my main game for a while. Was gonna play P3P but there's two bugged trophies so I'm waiting for an update on that.
I'm playing Assassin's Creed Syndicate, Devil May Cry 5 SE, started AC Chronicles Russia (on PS5, works fine now). Stray, Dragon Quest XII S and The Witcher 3 are in the rotation too. More than a week of vacation still left, so I'm gaming a lot.
This weekend I’m going back and forth between God of War 2018 and Spider-Man Miles Morales. GOW is an absolute treat for the eyes. Just got out of Alfheim.
@awp69 I downloaded TLoU as I too have caught tlou fever. So good.
Still going on GOW Ragnarok.
Over on PC I think I'm going to start Homeworld remastered again. Finished it before but man, that is a hard game.
Would've played the ps5 version of the house of the dead remake but they lied when they said it was a free upgrade & I'm not buying it again when I own the PS4 version
Just about to start Little Hope PS5 edition, got the platinum on the PS4 edition last year, probably my favourite Supermassive game. Downloading Dragon Quest 11S, will no doubt give that a go to.
Stayed up to 4am Playing MH Rise on PS5 with friends. Had an absolute blast! I'll also sneak in some Ragnorok this weekend in between hunts and sleep.
Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion on PS5.
Nearing the end of ragnorok but still a good bit left for the plat. Bit more work on my home arcade on Sunday 👍
I’m playing Gravity Rush 2 and streaming the Puppeteer and Rain via premium, which is actually quite a good experience. I really miss Studio Japan’s output on PS5
Evil West: PS5
GOW: PS5
One Piece Odyssey: Steam Deck
@ShogunRok Maybe after your next playthru of TW3. 😉
Seriously though, I'm a big FF7 fanboi since 1997, but XC is a better game. Shulk and the rest aren't better than Cloud et al, and nobody in any medium has ever been a better villain than the 1 winged angel Sephiroth, but it is a better JRPG.
@rjejr That's a borderline ban-worthy statement but I'll let it slide...
Nah, the original XC is a game I've wanted to play for ages — just never been able to get around to it. From what I understand, it has a lot of similarities to FF12, which I absolutely adore, only it's even more open. Based on everything I know, I'd probably love it.
@ShogunRok "That's a borderline ban-worthy statement"
Trust me, I know, it took me like 3 years after playing it to go thru the 5 stages of grief - denial, anger, bargaining, depression, acceptance - to finally come to my conclusion.
FYI I played thru the 1st part, about 15 hours worth, then stopped, b/c I wasn't really feeling it. Think FFX 8 hour opening tutorial. About a year later XCX was announced so I decided to go back to it, and my wife and 2 kids watched me play the entire thing. Then my 2 kids each played it themselves. Then they each watched Chuggaconroy's let's play on Youtube for like 140 episodes. It's always Reyn time in our house. 😁
It's no TW3, but as far as JRPG go, it's the 1 to beat. And XC3 is holding it's own.
I’m alternating between Modern Warfare 2 MP and a New Game+ run in Callisto Protocol since they added a trophy to the stack.
Im holding out on a good SP game until i decide if i should get forspoken or dead space. I would get murderous looks from the wife if i buy both, happy wife happy life and all that.
So i am playing MW 2 which i am finding surprisingly good. Even enjoying the multiplayer. However i need to do the spec op trophies to get the platinum and im a bit of an introvert and find i am a little panicky about having to speak to a stranger on the internet to play them, wish you could do it couch co-op.
Well after this weeks GT7 PSVR2 news I’ll be trying to improve my driver rating in sport mode before my driving dreams come true next month!
@Marquez golden fleece is the answer to all your boss related trophy problems on Cult. The platinum will be yours, believe
@BusyOlf I literally just read this in a trophy guide! Looks like I'll be going after it, indeed.
I just finished Forbidden West and now I am playing Bloodborne. Man, what a game Bloodborne is. What a masterpiece. I cannot put it down. I was up until 4 AM playing it last night.
@Marquez rip and tear, doom slayer!
The water boss who’s name eludes me is the toughest one to defeat. Keep an eye out for the enemy that shoot out little yellow creatures that explode if knocked away. You’re un-hit counter will go up by killing just the little ones as more are put on the screen. I had my hit counter around 1500 when I took on the water boss and used a big axe to kill with only two or three hits. Every other boss in the game are easier with the fleece on.
Persona 4 Golden. I’m already on the 2nd Dungeon. Having an absolute blast with it. If the NFL wasn’t on this weekend, I’d be absorbed in P4G
I'm away visiting family, but I couldn't resist buying AC Black Flag for less than a tenner, so I'll be replaying that when I get back next week, it's been 10 years since playing on the PS3 but I can only remember it being great
Death Stranding FTW! I’m working through my second playthrough and trying to do all the premium deliveries. The game is just so good and addicting. I feel like I’ve become a MULE myself.
I had a lot of overtime at work but waited for Sunday. I will download Back for blood tonight and ready for actions tomorrow
Demons Souls NG+, Hades & Bug Fables with a little bit of Saints Row and Fenyx DLC. I should probably pick a lane
I was looking through the PlayStation extra catalog, sampling games when I stumbled on john dever lone wolf. It reminds me of playing old pen & paper RPGs but with actual RPG combat when you get into fights. It's got a storybook aesthetic that plays out like a choose your own adventure book. Seems like an obscure game but I'd recommend it, I plan to finish it over the weekend.
@playstation1995 shadow of mordor is a cracking game, I remember the beast lord dlc from the goty edition being real cool!
Just finished Death's Door. Moved on to Dreamscaper (both on Switch). And I'm chipping away at Far Cry 6 on PS5.
I'm playing Chained Echoes and loving it. It's definitely a modern old school JRPG done right.
@R1spam i agree with you playa.middle earth shadow of mordor is a excellent game.the combat is legendary.word up son
@ThorsHammer
I too was really pleasantly surprised by how good Guardians of the Galaxy was, I had low expectations after the Avengers game but thoroughly enjoyed Guardians, great story and an equally great soundtrack, I really liked the huddle feature too.
Bought one piece odyssey, it's pretty fun, but yeah the battles are so easy so far. Loads of interesting mechanics but there's no need to use any of them. Really needs a hard, or even normal mode patch.
in the the process of trying to get all my console games and rebuy them on PC
i still got a long backlog to finish too , im so lazy.
I finished Ragnarok earlier in the week having had it since launch day … man I wish I had more time to game 😂 but playing Callisto Protocol for a little break before I forge on with the GOW side content/endgame!
As with Aaron, it’s exploring more of the desolately stunning wastelands of the post-parapocalyptic United Cities of America as I unravel more of the mystery of the Death Stranding 👀✨
What else but Persona 4 Golden
@somnambulance Pretty sure only one of those wind up being a decent game. Guess we'll see.
@rjejr Ironically I was a big fan boy of FF 1997 and before. The late stuff just doesn't stick for me. Love the remakes though.
@ChromaticDracula Why so many saying Death Stranding? is it a PS Plus Xtra Essential Mega (whatever they call the tiers) etc game this month?
Finished Cult of the Lamb, so started South of the Circle.
Enjoy the rest of your weekend folks!
I'm playing the most brutal game of all time...NOOOOTTHHIIIIIINNNGGGGG!!!!!
@tselliot Don’t think I’ve ever seen FF 1997 before, is that to separate FF7 from FF7R or did you just mean before 1997?
FF7 was my first FF game. Really I think it was my second “modern” video game - not counting Pong and Atari - after Parasite Eve, I only played 1-6 later on PS1 compilations. I’ve played most of the single player games since except 13-2 & 13-3. Last really good FF was X, but 12 was good in its own way. Not looking forward to 16, too dark and too many humans. I’m team Nopon now.😂
Almost done GoW:R. Just 'redacted' a certain horn blower
Traveling for work this weekend so its just Pocket Card Jokey: Ride On on the iPhone Apple Arcade. I played this on 3DS a while back. It’s the perfect phone game. Have a great weekend!
Playing trails from zero right now
Shantae: Half-Genie Hero and Team Sonic Racing! I'm about three races away from platinum'n TSR, so gotta squeeze that out this weekend.
FFXV for the first time
I plan on playing Neverawake but can’t put The Witcher down…wind’s howling!
@tselliot I don’t think so… maybe? I’d guess it’s more so because the second one is coming and so folks are trying to play or finish the first one.
@Slippship i might do that this year actually and just concentrate on my backlog and ps plus extra games, i do have hogwarts pre orderd and paid for. Will also buy ps vr 2 games, but will refrain from buying any new games for a year, then next year can pick up all the games from this year i want to play for cheap.
@rjejr Yes, I meant 1997 and before and the too dark too many humans, I agree. I like a lot more fantasy in my FF. Just a bunch evil people I can get in everyday life. Just feels like after FF7 it's a completely different genre.
@tselliot "Just feels like after FF7 it's a completely different genre"
I liked FF X b/c it was colorful and Kimari was a blue furry Rino. Not that I'm into furries but he was a thing. Fran the bunny girl was in 12 but she was basically human w/ bunny ears and the game was overall brown. X was colorful though. And there really hasn't bene another character like Wakka except Reyn in Xenoblade Chronicles. Though I am happy standing in a line turn based went away. I don't mind turn based, DQ11 was great, but the standing in a line thing is kinda weird in 2023. Grandia 2 they ran around in turn based battles and that was in like 2002 twenty years ago.
