At the start of this week, we asked the Push Square community to share the PS5, PS4 games they're most hyped about for the rest of 2022. After 8,000 votes, it's now time to reveal the results in the form of a top 10 countdown. Every game listed is either already confirmed to launch in the next six months with a solid release date, or has at least committed to the window. Here are your most anticipated PS5, PS4 games for the rest of 2022.
10. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 — 217 votes (3% of total votes)
9. Gotham Knights — 314 votes (4%)
8. Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion — 314 votes (4%)
7. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Complete Edition — 339 votes (4%)
6. A Plague Tale: Requiem — 407 votes (5%)
5. The Last of Us: Part I — 523 votes (7%)
It turns out there actually are PlayStation fans looking forward to the remake of Naughty Dog masterpiece The Last of Us! While it hasn't placed as high as a new entry in the series more than likely would, The Last of Us: Part I can still be considered an anticipated title for PS5 fanatics. Side-by-side comparisons have already proven just how much of an upgrade this will be over the PS3 original, and with gameplay mechanics taken from The Last of Us: Part II, Sony is onto a winner. Even if some devout fans say they won't buy it. Knock a couple of quid off the asking price and the remake will find its way into their collection before too long.
4. Stray — 526 votes (7%)
We've had to wait a little while to play it, but Stray is right around the corner, and the best part is PS Plus Extra and PS Plus Premium members won't have to pay a penny to play — it's included in your subscription! While that may be a big reason why so many of you are excited to role play as a cat, it also helps that the game has looked smashing in pre-release footage. Exploring a world dominated by robots, you'll explore and fight your way to unravel a mystery at the heart of the neon-lit city you inhabit. Whiskers at the ready: we'll be playing Stray in less than two weeks.
3. The Callisto Protocol — 693 votes (9%)
Looks like we've got a lot of Dead Space fans on the site because The Callisto Protocol, the very latest game from the creator of the survival horror classic, is the first title to make the podium. Everything we've seen from the title so far has been gory and horrifying, which is exactly what you want if you're looking to capture that audience all over again. Taking up the role of protagonist Jacob Lee, we'll need to survive an alien invasion aboard a prison colony orbiting one of Jupiter's moons. Survival horror fans are chomping at the bit for this one, so let's hope it delivers in early December.
2. Hogwarts Legacy — 807 votes (10%)
As the only title in your top 10 without a confirmed release date at the time of writing, let's hope Hogwarts Legacy does make it out this year because it takes the runner-up spot. Harry Potter boffins have waited too long for a witchcraft and wizardry simulator of reasonable quality to come along, and so a lot of hope and expectation is being put into the game out of Avalanche Software. Will it deliver? We can only hope and pray it does for now, but a State of Play event gives us confidence it'll be worth playing. Either way, it looks like a lot of you want to take the trip to Hogwarts and never leave.
1. God of War Ragnarok — 1,387 votes (18%)
Thank god Sony confirmed God of War Ragnarok will indeed be releasing this November because the sequel from Santa Monica Studio ran away with the vote and then some. The return of Kratos and Atreus is what excites you the most for the rest of the year, and who can blame you? After God of War on PS4 positioned itself as one of the console's greatest ever games, we've all been hotly anticipating the follow-up — and conclusion — to the Norse arc of Kratos' story. While it is admittedly little, everything we've seen so far from God of War Ragnarok points towards it being another stellar PS5, PS4 exclusive. Your hype is well placed.
How does your top 10 list of the PS5, PS4 games you're most excited about for the rest of 2022 compare to the Push Square community's overall picks? Share your thoughts in the comments below.

Mw2? DISGUSTING!!!
Jk
Why are people so hyped about Harry Potta? It will be a light game for ch.. Nevermind. It all checks out.
It’s nice to look forward to something, I hope they live up to the expectations, well preferably surpass them. I’m holding off on a 2nd Witcher play through tell the remastered version is released but I’m mainly waiting for god of war, hog warts and Callisto protocol.
Mw2 and the last of us; cash grab disguised as a remaster, Disguised as a remake, shouldn't be on there in my opinion.
The rest looks good!
...I am not anticipating even one of these games. Am I strange?
Top 5 games track fairly closely to my own ranking. Kinda expected Gotham Knights to be higher though. It's probably my 6th man, so to speak.
The only game on that list I'm really looking forward to is TW3, a game I've already finished 3 times lol
@shadow2k sounds like you're the chosen one.
@shadow2k
Yes! Yes you are.... Lol.
I dont think the winner here was in doubt!
The only one im not intrested in is COD...
@shadow2k Considering there were 8,000 votes, probably.
@naruball eheheh at least one person put a positive spin on it XD
@Bismarck
You just don't get it
@get2sammyb I THINK I voted on this poll, and I think I must have voted something that not many other people voted for at all, it didn't show up on this list. ._.
@shadow2k nah, I feel that way a lot when media outlets go on and on about certain anticipated titles. I am curious what you are looking forward to though.
@Titntin I think it's probably because I'm a very rare breed of gamer, one who is not remotely interested in fantasy (to the point of feeling a bit starved that so many developers do fantasy games and there's almost no sci-fi/future fantasy), so that eliminates a large chunk of this list - the Batman games didn't interest me, I got enough MW2 the first time around, The Last Of Us bored me, and the only one remotely interesting to me on this list, Stray, is less anticipated and more a curiosity. As for The Callisto Project, I dunno, I LOVED Dead Space but I'm not convinced yet.
Well two of my five got in there so I'm happy. Plague Tale Requiem and Calisto Protocol are going to be great! Still pretty sad to see neither Soul Hackers 2 or Trails from Zero get a bit more love though. Zero I can at least understand if you already played it before with fan translation but Soul Hackers 2 looks fantastic from what I've seen so far. Folks are sleeping on that one!
Edit: Oh by the way its going to take much more than a slight discount to get me to buy TLOU1 for a third time. Tell you what I'll play if it's free for plus!
@zupertramp someone who gets me XD so I preordered four games the other day, 2 for 2022, one in 2023 and one got moved into 2023 after I preordered. They are: Sonic Frontiers (hoping against hope it doesn't suck), Star Ocean (SE have a -lot- of goodwill rebuilding to do after I&F and if they balls this one up too....), Resident Evil 4 (one of my favourite survival horror games of all time, still have my Gamecube version and was HYPE when they announced it) and Forspoken. Of the four, Star Ocean is my most anticipated..........with a healthy helping of "don't eff it up Tri-Ace..." ...something I never thought I'd say after the glory of their 2000-2010 period.
Now, if Namco revived Xenosaga and remade it (not remastered) for PS5 exclusively, THAT would be something worth me getting excited for. That should give you some idea the games I play and want to see.
In reality none of them as I don't buy games on release but the ones I want to play later on are Hogwarts and GOW, Stray looks really good too.
The Last of Us is #5?! That's fantastic! It goes to show that all of those people venting their toxic negativity online really are the loud minority.
Glad to see all the hype for Callisto or anything survival horror. I hope it delivers but still thinking this is a February-April 2023 game before long.
@Korgon Sell me on Soul Hackers 2. I haven't played the first one; not difficult as it was never released here, I love turn-based JRPGs to a fault, but I am still waiting for a pure-PS5 experience, got a bit bored of generic anime game graphics....I liked the idea of the Persona games, then tried one, and the companionship/dating sim gameplay combined with heavy repetitive dungeon crawling turned me right off, should I try Soul Hackers 2 or avoid...?
If Instinction makes it this year... that. If not... Ninja Turtles Cowabunga Collection.
Now that Forspoken isn't happening this year (was my fifth vote), I would change it to Gotham Knights, Persona 5 Royal or The Last of Us Part one even though I'm not planning to get it at launch. I am looking forward to playing it someday though.
In fairness I will probably end up playing every game on this list at some point bar harry potter (never been interested in the films). GOW and callista will be day 1 the rest will wait for a sale
@KundaliniRising333 cash grab smh the game is a remake the difference is wildly better not to mention them overhauling the gameplay and supposedly expanding some levels. That’s not a remaster one bit but continue being mad because it’s so productive
@shadow2k You are rare! Tough to see how you got into games at all 😁
But thats the great thing about games these days, theres enough to cater to lots of tastes. I hope you get some more of what you want soon!
@shadow2k yeah kind of lol
I voted for the cat, the rats and the white wolf. I love animals.
Whoa. The cat’s whiskers beat the remake on the finish line. I see my vote counted 😅
I am looking forward to Stray but I am not bothered about the rest of this list. The game I really want to play is Midnight Fight Express. Looks beautifully brutal
Honestly stunned that TLoU pt 1 is #5. Guess there’s a larger audience for that than I thought
I was hoping Little Devil Inside was coming out this year but I guess it’s 23
@shadow2k
I never played the first one either actually but I just think from the gameplay I've seem and previews I've heard it just sounds really fun. It sounds like it's going to fall somewhere between the hard-core turn based RPG style of SMT and the more story focused social sim style of Persona. It will feature some social aspects though so it might not be up your alley. If the high school setting is what you didn't care for though this is a different setting at least.
Full disclosure though: I'm a huge Persona fan too so keep that in mind. 😄
@Titntin Ha well, I was always a Sega kid in the 1990s, I started out on Sonic games and had pretty much all of them (except Sonic 3, I had Sonic and Knuckles kinda late too but didn't actually own a copy of Sonic 3 until much later, 2013 when I went around collecting all the games I couldn't afford as a kid). I've always leaned towards sci-fi not just in my game preference but movies too; think: Star Wars but never Lord of the Rings. Then in the late 90s-early 2000s you got some early sci-fi masterpieces like Half Life, Deus Ex and my favourite PS2 rpgs the Xenosaga trilogy. Being in the UK I didn't play my ultimate favourite game of all time, Chrono Trigger, until 2003 - and from then I knew exactly where my tastes lay. My favourite three games of ALL TIME, over 30 years of gaming, are (in this order) Chrono Trigger, Skies of Arcadia and Resonance of Fate (yep I agree with playstation1995 every time they mention that as their most wanted PS+ game but I own every version released so eh) - so when I see YET ANOTHER fantasy magic and swords game set in the dark/middle ages/medieval period I cringe. Another comment I made elsewhere, I'll repeat here: if Namco turn around and say "we're fully remaking the Xenosaga trilogy on PS5 only" well then I might have to empty my bank account. Those games tested the heck out of the PS2 when they released, Namco and Monolith Soft know how to get the most out of a piece of hardware. That will kill two birds with one stone; I get one of my favourite RPG series' remade, AND I get a game that actually finally tests PS5. Being interested in graphics as a hobby, I love to see people push hardware....
@dark_knightmare2 Thats all hearsay other than a very modest glow up. The rest of what you are saying isn't proven and my money is on this being nothing more than a remaster of a remaster. Expanded levels, and overhauled gameplay have yet to be shown and this cash grab is coming out next month. cmon man, you gotta see the writing on the wall here.
@dark_knightmare2 rip me. XD
I absolutely get the disdain for COD: MW2 but I’m not gonna lie - I’m looking forward to playing it eventually. Those games are well made and a lot of fun. That’s why it’s such a successful franchise.
Otherwise Callisto, GoW, and Gotham Knights are what I’m REALLY looking forward to.
Well, I've already bought one of my most anticipated games for 2022, namely Blade Runner Enhanced Edition. I played the original in 1997 on PC and I'm overjoyed I can finally play it on a console.
The other one is The Last of Us Part 1.
@Korgon dangit. About the most hardcore social-sim-RPG I could stomach (and not get annoyed with in an "I just want to level up and beat something up, I don't care about creating relationships!" way) was the bond system the Tales games used around Tales of Symphonia/Vesperia. Skies of Arcadia kiiiiiinda had it with the Swashbuckler system but that had the end goal of people in shops worshipping you when you walked in which was rad. Maybe I'll read some SH2 reviews when it comes out....
@KundaliniRising333 I would not personally call the changes to Tess’ model as modest. The new model is a huge leap in fidelity over the original version.
“Completely rebuilt from the ground up for the PS5”
If the above line from Druckmann is true, new assets make this 100% a remake and not a remaster. It’s not reusing the original’s assets and just increasing the resolution or bumping up the framerate. That would make it a remaster.
This remake appears to go further than just visuals though with supposedly the reimagining of familiar places, redone combat, improved enemy AI, more modernized gameplay, etc.
I mean, these are all on official blogpost. If you think it’s all BS and they are just making these features up, then it’s probably safe to say they will receive quite a bit of criticism for that when the game releases.
Seems like it would be silly to do that though when the game is out soon, not next month actually, but in September.
@shadow2k Thank you for the explanation, I can indeed now see where you got your tastes, and I share many of them! 😁
But my head was full of middle earth and d&d back in the 70s, so anything with bit of fantasy has my attention, cant help myself. 😂
1. God Of War Ragnarok
2. The Callisto Protocol
3. Crisis Core
4. A Plague Tale Requiem
5. Gotham Knights
6. Stray
No one asked, but here's my top 10:
1. God of War Ragnarok
2. The Callisto Protocol
3. Last of Us Part 1
4. Crisis Core
5. Digimon Survive
6. Monochrome Mobius
7. Evil West
8. Valkyrie Elysium
9. Trails from Zero
10. Midnight Suns
Can’t wait to play the Calypso Protocol!!! 🏝🎼🌶
Wow. There is, like, no hype for Soul Hackers 2.
Did Saints Row get two votes, maybe? I know I voted for it and saw one other mention it on the vote page 😅
It's summer. Give me stupid games with stupid explosions and stupid customisation with stupid hipster characters so I don't mind if they explode at some point too. I'm just sad there's no English Male Boss voice. Youuuuuu, yooou've (not) got what I neeeeeeeed : (
And then also give me the cat, the rat* and the white wolf because I've had TW3 installed on my PS5 since I got it in anticipation of this god damn upgrade 😁
And Stray just looks cool for cats, and chill as fluff, and I'll keep saying it, even if I am a dog owner.
*the rat game I'll be playing is actually A Plague Tale: Innocence. Backlog, but I know it's my kind of game as I've played a bit, seen a bit on walkthroughs and just not got round to it.
Tonnes of great games though, just some I'll be playing before others as I can't follow GoW and Tsushima with another super serious title.
🎵 Yeah, come on Pierce, let's do thissss!
Baby it seems we never everrrr agreeee. You like the movies and I like Teee Veeee
Most of the list seems as expected, but I'm surprised Not the Last of Unnecessary Rereleases made the list at all. And I'm surprised Witcher 3's patch made the list. Also surprised how high up a Dead Space successor is. Seems disproportionate to what sales of the originals suggest. And Plague tale is surprising only because despite looking impressive, I tend to think of it as more of a AA title, and didn't expect it to make such a list, but it does seem like quality.
@shadow2k I didn't think you were strange until you said you preordered Sonic Frontiers. You're the kind of freak that liked Ugly Sonic, aren't you? You redeemed yourself with Star Ocean and an interest in Stray however.
@Korgon @shadow2k Soul Hackers 2 looks almost completely unrelated to Soul Hackers 1. The first game was a kind of dark cyberpunk world under secret societies and oppression, with first person dungeon crawling as it's main differentiator from SMT mainline. 2 looks like it's recycling the brand for a new series that basically has nothing to do even thematically with the original and from what we've seen it looks more like SMT/Persona style parties and 3rd person dungeon crawls in a more colorful world.
It does look fantastic, but I don't think the Soul Hackers name means much. Looks like a new SMT subseries borrowing the name of a forgotten one.
It shouldn't have the life sim/dating sim aspect, that's a Persona thing, so I'm thinking it'll be a more story-driven mainline SMT type game that emphasises the dungeon crawling more than the "gotta' catch 'em all" aspect. Similar in some ways to SH1, but also very different. I loved 1, but I'm still excited for 2, even if it's not the same thing.
@themightyant Either that or it shows a lot of people are just voting for the exclusives even if they're only marginally interested in them because it's a PS poll and they're playing other things elsewhere (or don't buy many other things.)
Either that or PS is now Nintendo where people buy the same game on every new generation over and over for 35 years...
@Ralizah And this surprises you....why?
Apparently nobody watched the trailer for Diofield Chronicles. It's looking like it'll be one of the best games in maybe the past decade.
More people hyped for Gotham knights than CoD?
That surprises me :/
@Milktastrophe I voted for Diofield!
Out of this list, I will buy Hogwarts, play Stray on PS+, and play Plague Tale on Gamepass if I ever finish Innocence. Hogwarts better stay on track for 2022… I will be sad if it gets delayed. As the only PS game I plan on buying for the rest of the year (yikes), I’d be bummed if that gets delayed like Forspoken did. Forspoken was my #1.
@shadow2k
The previews have said there is some sort of social element to Soul Hackers 2 at least with party members called "Soul Levels". I do think @NEStalgia is right with that it's not necessarily being a huge focus of the game however. I'm thinking they will keep it to a minimum but still there to help connect players to the main cast sort of like how Tokyo Mirage Sessions did it which many of the folks that worked on that game are working on Soul Hackers 2.
For example I don't think your going to be going on dates with more outer characters like your teacher like you can in P5 😄. More like go to the bar with one of your main party members.
We will see though not much longer now!
The top 4 are a sure buy for me.
The fact GOWR only got 18% of the top 1 votes and compared to this list, leaves me with zero faith in the gaming community. There is not ONE game on this list that even comes close. Not ONE. I'm willing to fight on this. (Another cut and paste COD, something about a cat, a remake, and an outdated wizard franchise.)
I'm only interested in Hogwarts Legacy and Midnight Suns.
MW2 over SH2
Disappointed but not surprised
God of war and the callisto protocol for the win.and i do like crisis core final fantasy 7 the reunion and the last of us remake.stray is cool.and evil west.is n.i.c.e. word up son
@KundaliniRising333 the upgrade isn’t moderate lol and the rest isn’t hearsay it came from ND themselves when they announced it
1) Hogwarts Legacy
2) Stray
3) Soul Hacker 2
4) Lots of other, awaiting reviews
I'm not surprised at all which games made the top 10! Just happy to see my choices are on this list somewhere.
Reference:
A Plague Tale: Requiem (PS5)
Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII - Reunion (PS5)
God of War: Ragnarok (PS5)
Hogwarts Legacy (PS5)
Stray (PS5, "Free" with PS+)
The Callisto Protocol (PS5)
Hogwarts for me. Not really too interested in much else. Maybe crisis core.
Surprised TLOU is so far up the list but it is a great game, I have no inclination to play it again though. Callisto, GOW and Wild West for me!! I would love to know when Atomic Heart is hitting!
Stray, Soul Hackers 2, Saints Row Gotham Knights and Witcher 3 next gen/Hogawarts Legacy if they hit 2022.
If Hogawarts Legacy is out this year, It will outsell most if not all games coming out this year. Obv GOW is only on one system so you can't expect it to outsell multiplat games, but with the HUGE global fanbase of HP ranging all generations I wouldn't be suprised if HL ships closer to Fifa/COD numbers.
I didn't get around to voting but there's quite a few games to look forward to, my most anticipated games would have to be:
1. God of War Ragnarok
2. A Plague's Tale Requiem
3. The Last of Us Remake
4. The Calisto Protocol
5. Hogwarts Legacy
6. Stray
7. Persona 4 Golden
8. Destroy All Humans 2 Reprobed
9. Steelrising
10. Soulstice
11. The Lord of the Rings Gollum
12. TMNT Cowabunga Collection
13. F.I.S.T Forged in Shadow Torch (Physical Edition)
14. Gotham Knights
15. Evil West
Honorable Mentions: AI THE SOMNIUM FILES NivanA Initiative, Soul Hackers 2, The DioFiled Chronicle, The Dark Pictures Anthology: The Devil in Me, One Piece Odyssey & Severed Steel
Skull & Bones and Saints Row are still in the 'maybe' category
Hmm, nothing really. I'm just poking through my backlog these days.
1. The Callisto Protocol
2 God of War Ragnarok
3 The Last of Us Remake - for the grand kids to play mostly
4
5 stay
6 cod mw2
7 Hogwarts Legacy - for the grand kids only
9.
10. evil west
@NEStalgia Ha, let's sum this up in one sentence: Ugly Sonic should be buried with the ET Atari 2600 cartridges. XD (I preordered Sonic Frontiers because I had/still have the Mega Drive, Mega CD, Saturn and Dreamcast under my TV and I was very much a Sega kid in the 90s. I'm aware 3D Sonic games have been a dumpster fire, but Generations was good...and I'm hoping hoping hoping that Frontiers is an uptick from Generations and not another trip-up. Time will tell. Loyalty to Sega (as much as it hurts when keep screwing up/they ignore IPs people /want/ them to revisit...such a waste) kinda forced my hand. Not in the rabid "Nintendo can DO NO WRONG" way Mario fans seem to perpetuate, more of a "...maybe it won't suck this time Sega?" way.
@shadow2k lol, oh, I still have my Genesis which is why I can't get myself to buy the new sonics until they're 19.99. I'll pay tribute to Sega loyalty with Soul Hackers 2.... Sequel to the best Saturn game there was
I went through the Sonic might not suck this time period though. I bought the were hog, boom, fire and ice..... Forces when it was cheap...... I tried..... 😂
@KundaliniRising333 not to mention the £69.99 price tag 4 a game I bought twice already and had a meh sequel I didn't h8 but didn't enjoy either oh well same as near EVERY modern game launch will w8 and see 😁😁😁
I just want Nightingale and The Forest 2 to be out already
