is anyone else having a problem with the wi-fi on the ps4 such as being really slow and just stopping when downloading, and I know it's not my router because everything else works perfectly on it
I was wondering if there were any fixes for this apart from going wired because that isn't an option here as the router is dowstairs in the living room on the other side of the house

I'd say that is the most obvious issue. You could try poweline/ethernet over power, but it can be pricey.
If you have access to the administration menu of your router you could try switching channels. 11 is the most common one I think. There's an android app called wifi scanner which will show you strength of the wifi signal for each channel in you room from each router in range. You'll probably see some overlaps with neighbours' wifi.
Just set the router to the strongest available channel, or the one with the less traffic.

Also, ethernet cable is very cheap, and available in pretty much any length you could ask for. Could be more beneficial to just run a cable to the living room, it's easy enough to trunk.

thanks I'm going to get a powerline adapter when I can and also my router is already set to channel 11
still my ps3 works fine in my room and it's actualy a littel further from the router than the ps4 so I wonder why it works fine but the ps4 doesn't maybe it's just the adapter in the ps4

I used a wi-fi checker and found out my ps4 and router are both operating on the same channel could that be the problem? I'll be honest I don't really know a lot about how wi-fi works

My PS4 has not had any problems with the wi-fi. I am not sure on downloads since I always have my PS4 on standby mode so it can download stuff when I am asleep or at work but I do watch Netflix on it and haven't seen any problems. My PS4 though is in the same room as my router.
I am agree with KALofKRYPTON that it might be because how far your router is from your PS4.

that's what I was thinking but like I said y ps4 is closer thsn the ps3 and the ps3 has no problem, does that mean the wi-fi adapter in the ps4 isn't as good as the one in the ps3 or can it be a software issue?
thanks for all the help anyway guys it's definetly better than it was but I can only download one thing at a time now more than one thing and they fail to download (once this happens I restart one and do them one after the other)

I have similar issues with my mac mini, I found out something really odd. Do you have any USB 3.0 devices close to your PS4? Like an external hard disk or sometimes even a thumb drive is enough. USB 3.0 emits some kind of frequency that can disturb Wifi signals. At least that's happened on my mac mini a few times and I got it confirmed officially by apple. So probably thats some source of trouble for PS4 too. Otherwise everything that KAL said!

@Scollurio using a wi-fi app Kal told me about I have noticed that every so offten it picks up a signel from some wi-fi adapter (just called 2G) and when this shows up channel 11 (which my wi-fi and ps4 brodcasts on) just becomes useless for my ps4 to use, I don't know what or who it is but I think this is the problem hence why I'm getting some power line adapters next week and bypassing the wi-fi on my ps4 completly

Ps4 network settings will tell you exactly how decent and fast your connection is. I managed to buy an excellent 15m cat6 Ethernet cable for a mere £2.50 with free postage. I would never use wi fi for my ps4.
