When pre-orders opened up for the PSVR, I didn't hesitate. I knew that I was going to buy one and I have been counting down the days since. I know it sounds absurd but until today I didn't actually think about what games I might buy/play with the device, and looking through the list of launch titles, I am not sure there are any that I would care to play!
I do not like MOBAs, or multiplayer shooters. It doesn't matter if you dress it up as a space fighting game, or a sit me in the cockpit of a robot. I also do not enjoy bite-sized games or games that stretch the definition of a game. When I applied this filter to the launch titles, it eliminated most of them (and the ones that remained didn't really look enjoyable). (also: No Retail = No Buy)
I like strategy games, RPGs, adventure games, platformers, stealth games, racers (I have DriveClub, so the DriveClub VR might be fun)
Are there any launch titles that I am overlooking? Maybe a game that I didn't even consider because the title wasn't appealing? I am trying to figureout what I should get on launch day, but I keep coming up empty.
I don't know about retail but I'd say Rez Infinite for my money. But I have to say that if your not interested in bite sized games or walking simulator style games then is it wise to buy PSVR day one? You clearly sound like you believe in the tech but I'm a bit concerned that you might lack games to play on it due to your preferences for the opening months.
@adf86: Rez Infinite looks interesting, but its a bite-sized (2 hour) game, and won't have a retail release. Those are both deal breakers for me.
If EVE: Valkyrie was a more single player story based game, it would have been my number one choice. I enjoy the visuals a lot and the space fighting mechanics really draw me in. Unfortunately its mostly a multiplayer dogfighting (so, CoD in spaceships) style game. Battlezone looks good too, but I am afraid that its going to just be a tank version of EVE: Valkyrie.
I have been too focused on the tech and getting a new toy and haven't spent much time looking at the launch games. I just figured that there would be more than PvP, extended demo's, and "experiences". I assumed that there would be at least a few actual meaty, action/adventure/strategy/RPG/etc... games that I could pick from. Is this indicative of the future of the platform, or is it just that you can throw a PvP game together much faster than a large story driven adventure?
@thedevilsjester Driveclub VR pre-order is now live as a Season Pass Upgrade (I think; I already have all DC stuff, so dunno if non-owners will see something different). Anyway, it's a 'full' game assuming you own the original, the vids of it look really good and it's only £15.99.
@thedevilsjester: Just been announced that if you own the Driveclub season pass then you can get Driveclub VR for half price. Digital only though.
I don't think it's anything against the platform about the current games, it's more that developers are dipping their toe in the water trying to work out what works in VR. Because everything changes from a design perspective, a bit like when 3D graphics came in the 90's. It's why we are getting the bite sized Batman VR and an X Wing mission for Battlefront because it's the most that the big studios and publishers are prepared to do.
@get2sammyb: I would definitely be interested to hear about how the game is for single player. Its difficult to tell from the trailers what this game is going to be. It looks great but I don't want to just have a game that I put in for a few minutes to show off VR to friends/family, but never actually play for more than 15 minutes.
@adf86@Drawfull: I have DriveClub, and I will most definitely buy the VR add-on.
I was hoping for an RTS or Tower Defense, or even a single player focused, story driven EVE: Valkyrie style game. I do hope that a lot of my current games get VR upgrades, but I am not holding my breath.
So I preordered Rigs, Until Dawn: RoB & VR Worlds at GAME yesterday. My GAME app which shows the preorders have both Rigs & Until Dawn down for 13/10/2016 but VR Worlds is down for 31/12/2016 which I assume is just a placeholder but you never know. Is there a comprehensive list of launch titles available anywhere? According to ign these are the launch titles:
Batman Arkham VR
Battlezone
EVE: Valkyrie
Harmonix Music VR
Headmaster
Here They Lie
Job Simulator
PlayStation VR Worlds
Rez Infinite
RIGS Mechanized Combat League
Trackmania Turbo
Thumper
Until Dawn: Rush of Blood
War Thunder
Wayward Sky
Within
World War Toons
Is this right, cause GAME only had like 4 titles available for preorder?
Lives, Lived, Will Live.
Dies, Died, Will Die.

I noticed that majority of titles aren't available at all on Amazon or Game stores. Makes me wonder if they are just readying digital releases for these games?
Now I may be an idiot, but there's one thing I am not sir, and that sir, is an idiot
@adf86: Thanks. If I can just find a couple games to keep my PSVR from gathering dust in the first 6 months, that would be awesome. I bought a PS3 on launch day, and it was about 4-6 months before I actually bought a game for it (I believe it was Oblivion). I do not want to repeat that with the PSVR.
@thedevilsjester: @Drawfull: Thanks! Looks like there will be a lot of content available just hope we get some more retail titles. Sony needs VR titles on the store shelves. If nobody knows, nobody cares.
All in all pretty impressed with what's coming out in the launch window.

Ya, multiplayer games aren't really of interest to me, shame cause RIGS, Eagle Flight, Star Trek Bridge Crew, Battlezone, Eve Valkyrie, are all multiplayer focused. That said, Eve Valkyrie has single player missions, as does Battlezone and RIGS let's you play against AI. The Ubisoft lineup is a complete bust though. Online only sucks.
I've found a lot of the shorter experiences and indies to be the best games though. The demo disc is a huge help, and lets you get a taste of all kinds of ideas. The thing is, I think we need to think about VR differently. The MP thing I get, I agree, but indies imo have outdone the AAA devs thus far. Games like VR Playroom Robot Rescue is amazing. Allumette from the demo disc is extremely promising, as is Waward Sky's premise. Top down tactical SRPG's could follow a similar blueprint and be amazing.
I think Farpoint could be the system seller, but so far DriveClub VR, Rez, Arkham VR, PSVR Worlds London Heist and Scavengers Odyssey, Thumper and Battlezone are my hilights.

Throwing another into the ring, super stardust vr. Cheap and well worth a look. For anyone that knows super stardust pre vr, the original game is in there, but also a ground based battle zone style vr in it too. Personally i actually find it better than battlezone but thats obvioisly personal taste.
