If you haven't made the jump to PS4 yet, man are you in for a treat. I still love my PS3, but going back to it after an extended period away has been an eye-opener. The patching system is abhorrent. The download times are horrendous. The store barely functions. Installs take an ages. Trophy syncing barely works.
I still have many fond memories of this console and will still continue to use it as I playthrough some of the games I missed. But man, I have no idea how I put up with it!
How do you find using the PS3 in a post-PS4 world?
I do not have a PS4 yet, but one of the things that has put me off is that the PS4 has been missing since launch basic features the PS3 had such as being able to play videos from USB, which made it seem like the PS4 was actually a downgrade from the PS3 interface wise... they have added some of the features since launch but they are still missing super basic things like being able to organize files in folders.... and they seem to be focusing on gimmicky social features instead of addressing the basic things and I don't think they'll ever incorporate the Vita content management feature on the PS4 which is something I'll miss as I download my Vita games on the PS3
It's really hard to go back to my PS3 - and not just because it's been sent downstairs and is now used primarily as a media player. RIP.
But in all seriousness, everything really does feel super slow. And the DualShock 3, too - I used to think that controller was the perfect size, but after using the DualShock 4, it seems too small, like I can hardly grip it. It's weird.
Still, adore my PS3 for all of those good times. Right up there with my PSone, GameCube, and PS2 when it comes to home consoles.
For me, I only log into my PS3 2-3 times a month just to download some stuff and lately I find it to be quite buggy. Both the PSN Store and the XMB will freeze sometimes. On top of that the time it takes to sign into the PSN Store is still ridiculously long.
Whenever I logged into my PS3 account I always get greeted by friends messages from the PS4 which takes a while for them to load so I was wondering if its possible to prevent my PS3 from receiving them.
I have no problem, probably because I bought my ps3 a year after I bought my ps4.
but it was hard for me to go from fallout 3 to fallout 4 because the controls are completely different.
also the title was kind of a clickbait XD
i still love my PS3, so many great games, i can look past the few problems it has

Well, it's hard to make the jump when you can't afford it. Otherwise I would have. My PS3 is practically all I have, and since I've only had it since 2012, I'm fine for now. There's still games for me to experience on it.

@DerMeister: Totally understandable. I fully appreciate that people can't afford/aren't ready to upgrade yet, and that's fine. You're in for a treat when you do, though.
I think the amazing thing is that you don't really realise the difference until you've experienced the PS4 first hand. It's such a massive improvement.
@get2sammyb And I can't wait to eat that treat. But hey, you can't have a house without paying for it. Well, you can step inside, but you can't stay forever..... You'll be kicked out eventually.

Just wanted to ask if it would be worth buying a PS3 for exclusives and other games that I missed? I have had a Ps4 for nearly 2 years now but I am thinking of getting a second hand ps3 for around 50/60 quid so i can mainly play all the God of War and Killzone games I missed. I also have a few games stacked on Ps Plus for the Ps3 I'd play too, what do you guys think? I do have a 360 downstairs but I doubt i'll bother unless I fancy some Oblivion, Skyrim or Fallout...
@Patinator: If you like shooters, KillZone 2 and 3, and Resistance 3 are easy recommendations. The God of Wars are still good to go back to, but I'd say GoW 3 is the best and that's available on the the PS4 anyway.
@Wesker: Yeah I'm into shooters, I used to play the older Killzones online at my cousins house... Couldn't get of them. And I played God of War on the psp but since I had a 360 I missed out. I have always been interested by God of War with the greek mythology and the collection looks good value too. With games being really cheap aswell and the Ps3 always getting good Ps Plus games it looks worth it.
i have also noticed how after playing the PS4 for so long, how small and light the PS3 controller feels

@DerMeister: Same here. I didn't get my PS3 until 2011, and it was an used 160GB PS3 Slim that my mom bought for me 4 years ago as a Christmas present.
Even though I now have a job that earns me around $180-$280 bi-weekly, I don't see myself buying a PS4 until Black Friday 2016 at least, if not BF 2017.
My PS3 game backlog is still ridiculously big anyways, so I'm not in any hurry to upgrade yet lol.
@ShogunRok: lol. I love my ps3 but the PSN store on ps3 is an abomination. That thing crashes on me all the time. But for the controller, maybe it's because you have big manly hands? I still find it super comfy and I like how light it feels. I don't have a ps4 yet, but I sometimes play Bloodborne at my friend's house and I have a hard time getting used to the controller. He says it's because I hold it "claw" style and the ps4 controller wasn't designed for "claw" style. Whatever that means. lol.
I love my PS3 one of my favorite consoles ever. That said going back is painful after owning a PS4. I really thought I would still use it a good amount but have barely touched it the last few months.
Well yesterday was the first time I ever dealt with a PS3 and I have to say coming from a PS4 to a PS3 wow, I appreciate all the changes Sony made to make the PS4 more user friendly. So far my biggest complaint is the UI interface what a mess compared to the PS4. It took me awhile to find where my downloaded games were. The download speeds, wow what a difference from the PS4. I can see now why the 360 outsold the PS3 last gen. Don't get me wrong it's a nice machine but some of the things Sony did makes you wonder WTF???

As soon as I set up my PS4 a couple years ago I knew the PS3 was getting shelved because the PS4 is such a better designed console. Controller, UI, everything. If it wasn't for Yakuza 5, I'm not sure the PS3 ever would've been pulled from storage for anything more than just a test run to make sure it still works. Great library of games, horrendously designed. Funny enough, it was MS who after having a very well made piece of hardware decided to take some big steps back this gen.
@Gamer83: Lol I have been saying that as well. It's almost like Sony and MS switched places compared to last gen. Last gen Sony was trying to ride the success it had with the PS2 and figured that people would jump from PS2 to PS3 no questions asked. MS seemed to do that very same thing this gen ride the success of the 360. I guess some gamers aren't as loyal as these companies think.

@Tasuki:
Yup, happens all the time, doesn't matter which company either once one gets a taste of success it usually does some dumb stuff to lose momentum. That said at least Nintendo after SNES and Sony after PS2 were coming off consoles where they finished first. 360 was actually outsold by PS3 near the end of last gen and finished 3rd, so the arrogance was made even more laughable.
