I figure this would happen which is why I am probably not even going to try it today. Being an MMO gamer for the past few years made me use to this sort of thing.

Yeah MMO's are notorious for this. I remember back in May when the Romulan expansion launched for Star Trek online I couldn't even log in on the second day! There was a 76,000+ log in que that was going to take at least 6+ hours for me to get to the front of lol
With the amount of money Rockstar made on GTA5, to be honest I would've expected better investment into their server infastructure. They knew how much this game sold and the likely userbase trying to log in on launch. Seems like a slap in the face for you guys that have waited for this

The problem with what you are saying is that this is something that you can't predict, its just something that you need to see happen on launch day. Yeah you can try and prepare servers but its anyone's guess on how it will be untill it launches.

Well I also think this should have been smoother but on the other hand, I really expected as much. And yay, Rockstar could have easily guessed this too.

Top 5 Indies I'd recommend you try: #1 Lovecraft's Untold Stories, #2 Moonlighter, #3 Hotline Miami, #4 Inside, #5 Into the Breach.
I gave up a short while ago. Not angry but this is pretty upsetting as I was really looking forward to playing and my excitement quickly turned to a bit of frustration.

The structure of the game makes it infinitely more frustrating. Instead of just dropping you out to a menu, you have to watch that ridiculous Google Maps screen every single time. It just seems so unecessary. I get what Rockstar's going for, and if it all worked it would be amazing, but it's beyond annoying when it's broken.
I'm more upset that this was suppose to keep me busy till Beyond Two Souls came out. It would be fine if I had the SP to fall back on but I have all ready finished that and was ready for a change.
Like, Sammy said ever time you fail to get online you are kicked back to SP like it or not. Hey, Rockstar been there done that... I mean give us a main menu.
Wow I can't believe you guys and honestly I can't believe how many people thought that they would be able to play this game today. Take it from me I have had this problem with World of Warcraft many times especially when a new expansion drops. I know its annoying and frustrating but its not broken and Rockstar couldn't have known this would happen. Yeah its easy to say Rockstar should have known blah blah blah but like I said this kinda of stuff you don't know till it launches.
Just relax and play the single player mode give it a few days and try it again. Honestly I wouldn't be surprised if this lasts a few weeks.
Also Rockstar has never has done a project of this caliber before there are bound to be kinks in that need to be ironed out.

Man we're just discussing and yes I for my part expected trouble, lag, drop outs, but I'd have enjoyed to at least have a look, be able to log in. Im done with singleplayer and there is really not THAT much to do compared to what GTA Online will offer so... I just think whats more upsetting? Us being disappointed about rockstar or you being disappointed about us being disappointed?
I hope they'll have this sorted soon, I'd say a week, but not weeks really. I don't think Rockstar will need that long.

Yes people should expect to play it but then again they should expect problems. I have all been there like you guys trust me on this but I guess I can expect not to be able to play the game the first day after being in that boat many times before.
I am eager to play GTA Online as much as the next guy I am just not going to let Rockstar ruin my day thats all.

LOL well put @Splat wouldn't that be dumb consumerism to assume a product you pay out of pocket for be unusable? I'm sure there are people who bought the game today just for the online component, wonder how they are feeling... Seeing their own sales day one should have prompted them to look into this issue before it became one.
@get2thesammy dude I couldn't agree more. I'm sure when working it will be cool but it's an irritant when not being able to get online.

Have to admit, my attitude is similar to @Tasuki's. It shouldn't be the case but I expected what happened would happen. I'm hoping the PS4 and X1 will change that, but I'm not counting on it. Online setups aren't perfect and can't be perfect. You can plan for a big release and big numbers of people to turn out and I'm sure Rockstar did but something unexpected can still happen. Fact of the matter is, none of us here knows what's really going on behind the scenes or if things were handled right or not. I'm disappointed sure, but things will get ironed out like always with this stuff.
