Personally I like the idea that someone said (cant remember if it was here or somewhere else) but they should not have a release date, they should just say it will be available in October. That way people will trickle in. Of course with the internet today and such that probably wont work cause as soon as it went live it would be all over the internet and people would be jumping on.
But still you gotta think how many people played hooky today from school and work just for GTA Online I know at least 3 of my coworkers that did so that might alleviate some of the problem if a date wasn't given.

UPDATE, for me its working, with a few hiccups and long loading times between jobs and events. Well my first impressions are: WOW, this is FAR FAR FAR more complex than the singleplayer. Gambling, betting on (player run) car races, car insurance, car IGNITION-bombs, remote-bombs (in cars, in case someone steals it)... iM just stunned. Just robbed a liquor store together with some random guy only to have a dispute about the cash afterwards, ending up killing him with my shotgun, lol. Awesome awesome awesome game really!
UPDATE to the UPDATE. God this sucks. Got a disconnect after over an hour of gameplay (Level 6 already). When I wanted to boot it up again, my char was gone, with all progress and all. Damnit. I won't touch this for another few days I guess. It's gruesome considering how awesome the little time was I spent online!
I got to finish tutorial and robbed a store with some random person but after that anytime I would try to play a mission it would fail to load. I just robbed a few more places by myself and quit haha.
I think it's going to be pretty sweet if they can ever get the bugs worked out.
@Epic - Sorry that was not the funnest mission... I just wanted to see what it was like playing with someone else, I didn't realize we would be chasing those cars all over the city, but hey I didn't shoot you in the back when we were done.
@Epic - I would have stayed on but I'm getting ready to leave. We can try it again sometime if you want?
I believe I started a solo session or friends only when I invited you so that's why there wasn't anyone else. Which might not be a bad thing moving forward so you don't have to worry about random people shooting you haha.
@Splat Already got used to get shot or rammed I just shotgun theiir faces off when I see they approach with that intent xD It would great play again other missions with normal people and other users maybe even create a PSQR crew but my lack of time and skills make this a bit hard xD
I didn't have much luck connecting with other people today which isn't really surprising being the weekend and everyone trying to play. I just did a solo online session and got the hold up all 20 stores trophy.

Congrats. I might actually do the same now!

Top 5 Indies I'd recommend you try: #1 Lovecraft's Untold Stories, #2 Moonlighter, #3 Hotline Miami, #4 Inside, #5 Into the Breach.
Since I can finally play mostly fine I thought I'd want to share a little story with you. I was free roaming around, minding my own business, as a car was pulling up besides me, an Oracle Sedan. Inside was a guy named "SCOOBY-AYD" and it didn't take me long that this guy was actually the KID babbling all the time with mic open. He was honking, I was honking, he was spinning wheels, I was spinning wheels. Im not one of those people shooting other players on sight except I am threatened.
Anyways, that guy was getting out of the car and shot me. When I respawned he was really close to me and ran me over. He triggered the cops and the second time I respawned the COPS "accidently" ran me over. Then I wrote him a text perfectly fitting for a game like GTA and called Lester to put a bounty on him, and here's the deal: You have NO idea what kind of SHITSTORM breaks lose amongst the players if you out a 5.000 $ bounty on someone! ahaha. Lol. Within minutes at least 4 people tried to kill him, did kill him, molested his corpse, destroyed his car, and killed him like 5 more times after respawning, before he logged off and I thought I heard some crying or sobbing through the mic.
Parents, don't let your kids play GTA!

When you reach Rank 10 you get Lester as a contact, then you can call him for interesting stuff like "disappear from radar" and "lose cops" and "put bounty on player" Fun!

Wow just lost my Level 19 Char AGAIN. Gone. All progress for nill. Awesome.
I'm hearing about this way too often. I'm not going to be playing the online part of this game. Love the single player, that's the reason I bought it. I was interested in online but all these stupid problems from day one means I'm just not going to bother. It's disappointing, I was giving Rockstar the benefit of the doubt but this is ridiculous now.
Obviously Rockstar has no idea what they are doing with the online portion. Its a nice thought but honestly they should have just made GTA Online a separate game instead of adding on to GTA 5. That way they could have devoted all their attention to it.

Yeah, hindsight is 20/20 but clearly Rockstar had no plan, which is shocking to me because I consider it the best development studio out there after Naughty Dog.
To me it just felt that Rockstar tried to do something too big. I mean games now adays have online modes and such but this seems alot bigger then your typical online mode. Its almost like an MMO. It would be like Blizzard adding World of Warcraft as an multiplayer online mode to Warcraft III.
