Topic: Best Game rental service in the UK?

Hi, just here to ask a quick question to see if anybody in the UK uses any game rental sites and can recommend me one? Just asking as I have my first child on the way and money is going to be tight, and I will have less time and money to invest in games... So I plan on renting the single player games and probably trying the big releases before I choose to buy in future. Any help would be appreciated!

Yeah wish they still did games! I've googled it and found boomerang rentals but honestly don't know how reliable they are? If anyone has used them before give me a shout please!

Personally I can't think of any these days. I don't know if there is a 'market' for renting games and whilst I know that 'some' people would really like the opportunity, from a business sense, its not financially viable to buy all the latest releases and rent out to the 'few' in their area that may want to rent a game. The best bet is to either look for 'demo's' or play some of the free games. Another option is to wait until the prices drop, pick up games in sales, and the IGC collection - for the price of 1 game a year, you get 24 games on PS4. Maybe not always the games you most want to play but if you have a child - especially a young one, time isn't always there to spend hours at a time gaming anyway. Although I don't agree with buying 2nd hand games myself, that's another way to purchase games cheaper and you can trade in or sell old games to help purchase new games too. The money you could put to 'renting' could be used to buying in sales, buying 2nd hand or saving up to get the game you wanted. Have a 'save' jar where you can put some money away each week, that loose bit of change etc and then use that to buy games. Ebay is also another place to buy - not always 2nd hand games either.

A pessimist is just an optimist with experience!

Why can't life be like gaming? Why can't I restart from an earlier checkpoint??

Feel free to add me but please send a message so I know where you know me from...

Unless you've got an independent game retailer I can't think of anywhere since Blockbusters went.

Boomerang Rentals are fantastic. I pay £11pm for 1 game at a time, unlimited games in a month, priority service. If ever there has been a new release I want, I have received it on release day or the day after. Customer service is incredible too and very active on Twitter.

They do various packages to fit whatever needs you have too.

I honestly can't recommend them enough. Any questions just let me know.

@mrobinson91 Thanks, that's who I'm thinking of using! Any idea what the prices are like say you rent a game and you choose to buy it from there as I read you could do that also?

Yeah the Boomerang service is almost identical to when LoveFilm used to do game rentals. I've used it on occasion and they've always been very good.

@mrobinson91 Nice definitely going to give them a try before Horizon is out!

@PostmanPatinator Another one for Boomerang, it completely changed my approach to games, I find myself trying out almost every game that comes out and if it interests me, I'll complete it, if not I send it back, and if I really want to keep on playing it/like the multi player, I'll just buy it off of them.

Turnaround time is pretty good too, and they offer the chance of putting your account on holiday, which I did when I bought Skyrim, and anytime Destiny gets an update.

Cannot recommend it enough.

@mrobinson91 We're boomerang pals?

Went to have a look at Boomerang - seems like a good service.
I have bought more than one game that either I did not actually like, or got bored with - or completed in a month. So, on those grounds, I would be saving money.

But I would like to use the service in this way - I see a new game I fancy, rent it and then keep it if I like it.
Think this one through.
So, I rent For Honour to see if 'it is for me'. I decide that it is. As it is a new game, I pay £10+ on top of the full price of the game. Alternatively, I wait for a price drop and buy it ex-rental. So, I rent it for 3 months - £30+, then buy it ex-rental for (say) £29 - so I end up paying £60+ for the game.

It would work for me if -
1. I found out the game was not for me.
2. I completed the game in one or two months.
3. Or if they sent out the game for rental - and deduct the monthly rental from the price of buying the game. I do not understand why they don't do this - if I were not allowed to rent another game during that month - I would still be paying them the price of a full game, by making up the shortfall - so they do not lose any money.

So, this is the deal-breaker for me.

Another Boomerang member here, been using them for over 2 years now and up to now I've saved approximately over £4,000 in games.

I recently had an occasion where 3 games got sent out to me but never arrived, assumed someone stole them while on their way to me, Boomerang said normally they would just close my account (a loss of £150 worth of games so you could understand) but because I've been a member for over 2 years and always sent the games back no problem, they give me a chance and to this day I'm still renting with them.

If anyone does join up with them don't get any package below the £11.99 Priority 1 package, the games will most likely be all rented out to other members who pay for the Priority packages, it's only £2 more than the minimum £9.99 membership for XB1 & PS4 games anyway.

So, if packages get lost in the post it is normally seen as the recipients responsibility and not (as is normally the case) the senders? Odd.....

Boomerang totally passed me by, been looking at it this week and weighing it up as I could save a small fortune using this service.

What's the impact on the developers though? Honestly I'm in a position where I can generally afford to buy the games I want outright (though I'm by no means minted) so would prefer to support the industry..

Webubu are another games rental company similar to Boomerang. Multiple packages, latest releases and all current consoles.
