Anyone else getting this? I preordered it yesterday so I'm playing the first act on pre-release, and I'm having an absolute ball.
I think I get out of these games what most other people seem to get out of games like The Witcher, Assassins Creed Origins etc.
I just prefer the top down perspective and team based turn based combat. I like how thoughtful you have to be about everything, and how much you can influence the world around you. You almost like you're breaking the game sometimes.
And the graphics, sound, writing are all top draw.
I will get this yes, but... I have to finIsh pillars of eternity, prey, dishonored 2, and maybe nioh first. The lengthy list is The only reason I didn't pre-order it. It does look fantastic.
@kyleforrester87 As much as you have played so far, how would you compare it to Divinity original sin and Pillars?
@Elodin it's.. as good as Divinity OS1 so far although I simply haven't played enough to say it's much better or anything. But already it does seem as though certain aspects are more refined, such as the crafting. But we'll see if that carries itself through the game. Also the world feels a bit more alive and less static.
I do think it's better than Pillars already. I played 40-50 hours of that and as good as it is I prefer the tone, world and interactivity of Divinity and it's fully 3D environments. Also, I prefer the turn based combat.
Well it doesn't seem anyone else here is playing this - yet! Perhaps some of you will pick it up at launch.
Anyway, I just finished the first act (33 hours) which is quite a lot of game for me to play in 1 week. So clearly I had a lot of fun. It's a shame I now have to wait until the end of the month to play the rest but I have a small amount of mopping up to do and I'm kind of thinking about playing a bit of the original while I wait, too.
@KALofKRYPTON I know it is turned based combat but I don't really consider it turn based in the classic JRPG sense, which can get pretty dull to be fair despite my enjoyment for it. I only played Banner Saga a couple of times but from memory the combat is more similar to that in Divinity.
The combat in Divinity is generally a lot of fun though, positioning is crucial, lots of fun abilities and utilising elements successfully can be very rewarding.
@kyleforrester87 I’m playing the first game atm, but I’m finding it a bit slow.
I’m about 6hours in & almost all of that was dialogue.
I take that’s still the beginning of the game?

@kyleforrester87 Cool. I'll be a while with the Banner Saga yet - so nice to have something to slot in.
Is there much of a difference between the two? They are lauding about the improvements made to the game for console play... Does the first run/play as well?
All that said, I did want to run through Space Hulk (Vita) and Space Hulk Ascension (PS4) fully before Space Hulk Tactics comes out.

@Fight_Teza_Fight hmmm well there is a lot of talking but that's a constant through the game really. However there are huge sections of game where you'll not really be talking much, since you'll be out fighting stuff or generally exploring. Where abouts are you exactly? The first 10-15 hours were pretty gruelling for me (and many others) as you get to grip with the game and it's systems. Are you not struggling with the combat at all?
I enjoy the graphics, music and general feel of these games a lot, so I guess I have a lot of patience for aspects that others might get bored by.
@KALofKRYPTON it looks better (especially on the Pro), sounds (in some ways) and feels better than the last one. Whether the story is better remains to be seen I guess but it's engaging so far. I would say the combat is looser in some respects, a lot of abilities tend to be area of effect so if you have used rain to soak everybody on the battlefield, all of the ice/electricity spells seem to freeze/stun those around the intended target as well. Which is kind of annoying when you've got your warrior standing there soaking up the damage. This did happen in OS1 but I am sure you were less likely to screw yourself over like you can in 2. It's hard to explain but I guess I'm finding I'm making less use of elements than I was in OS1 because it's not worth the hassle, at least so far. But then, placement seems a bit more important as you get damage multipliers on height advantages.
Also in OS2 there are 6 prebuilt main characters and you can essentially main them and play their story. I made my own character instead and I've recruited 3 of those mains so I get to experience their stories in some way but I'm sure it's a bit different than it would be if I'd chosen them as the protagonist, but I wanted to go full role play! Maybe I'll give it another play through when I'm done. The characters I've left behind seem kinda interesting.
@kyleforrester87 I’ve been teleported to the ends of time, found the evidence needed to throw Esmeralda into jail & now have to find someone named Evelyn.
I do like the game, so I’m going to stick with it for a bit longer.

@kyleforrester87 No not actively playing at the moment. Played it when I got it in a PS store sale last year but not played it since. Do wanna get back to it eventually though.

I was so ready for a good traditional isometric WRPG when OS1 dropped. I've always loved the idea of the genre but never really managed to get deep into the games. I started Icewind Dale, Baldur's Gate and Neverwinter Nights many times in my early teens but they were always a bit too complex for me (or my computer). And for some reason back then I never really liked the idea of controlling multiple party members. So trying to get far in Neverwinter Nights without a group of 4 was basically impossible.
Anyway, 15 years of pent up lust for a good console version of those classics meant I was very hyped for OS1 and it didn't leave my disc drive for a month. I think it also made me very patient since not everyone loves it (despite it's great ratings) so I can only assume it has some flaws I didn't see.
Anyway, do yourself a favour - get 3 of your team mates talking to 3 NPCS so they are locked in facing corners, then get your 4th going round the room stealing everything that isn't nailed down.
@kyleforrester87 Played both Baldur's Gate games back in the day. The first one I actually played twice, once on my own and then again with a mate. Don't think I've played isometric WRPG since.

@JohnnyShoulder I'd love to play em again. I tried to play the iPhone versions but screw that. I will get a PC again at some point, there are plenty of games I want to play.
@kyleforrester87 Having finished the first Act, did you have any Wow moments either story or game play wise? Or any this is crap, moments? How is it as a created character?
I usually like to create my own character, but the origin stories look quite interesting and having the world react more to an origin character has me leaning that way. I checked around online and it appears Red Prince and Lohse are the best picks to play while Fane is better to have in party. Of course these are all just personal preference.
While I am enjoying Pillars, the load times sometimes keep me away from the game. How are the load times in DOS 2? The first one I know wasn't bad so I'm hoping this is the same.
@Elodin yeah agree regarding load tomes, such a slog. None to speak of in Divinity by comparison. Instant fast travel between the same area. Just a load screen into new areas (which is rare) or when you choose to load from last save.
The coolest moment was returning a stolen item to a gang member. Gang member wanted me to say who stole it. If you decline they all set on you and kick your ass. If you sell the thief out he lets you on your way. You can then go back to the thief and you find him being ambushed by as assassin. You can then step in to kill the assassin and save him. Pretty cool I thought.
Then when I was a few levels higher I went back and slaughtered the whole gang out of principle 😂
has anyone else noticed that selector mode (press L3) doesn't work for movement like it did in the original? Really had that nice KB&M feel doing that. I hope they patch it in.
Selector Mode: press L3 move highlighted cursor anywhere and I mean anywhere (as long as its reachable) and hit X. Party moves to the area you clicked on their own.
I'll be getting this but probably around black Friday as it is a very long game and I don't want to rush it to play other games and at the same time I don't want to miss all these other games around this time. So December seems perfectly suitable for this game, even though I played the previous installment in September. Anyone who likes good RPG games shouldnt miss this or the previous one.
